wyllstarion is still just so good. you'd think fighting the demon (thirty thousand plus word fanfiction that wants to kill me so bad) would make me want a break from their whole thing but i literally don't. bad liar and a good liar and they both aren't big fans of mirrors. miserable cunt + the only man who thinks he's charming. monster hunter + the monster he just won't hunt. paranoid obsessive cheryl blossom from hit show riverdale and like, if a sacrificial lamb with a hero complex was convinced it was a normal guy with no problems. worst son-in-law in the world and the guy who's really locked in to 1) being a good son and 2) marriage. it's kind of unmatched. and sometimes they're even divorced

okay so.. what if instead of pursuing a Fist position Ulder decided to continue his father's work as a blacksmith in Baldur's Gate and taught Wyll how to do it as well

i haven’t thought much about mizora in this AU, but i love imagining that wyll has his own goals and dreams. yes, he loves his dad, but he still reads heroic tales and wishes he could travel the world. he knows his heart belongs to the people. there are bigger, more ambitious, and grander dreams than blacksmithing

maybe in this AU, he still meets mizora when the tiamat cult tries to destroy the city. when he sees the only chance to become a hero, he takes it. who knows

also, i’m thinking about blacksmith!Wyll meeting tailor!Astarion because my wyllstarion brain just won’t turn off. what if in this AU Wyll is the one fixing Karlach's engine instead of Dammon hmmm. much to think about

sorry to bg3 post again but i am thinking about wyllstarion and the way it impacts both of their characters.

because, in a way, they mirror each other. each taken in by a higher being at a time of great need. each forced to do harm upon others, even innocents, lest they be hurt in unknowable ways. both transformed against their wills into something more monstrous.

and yet while astarion embraces the vile way he sees himself, aspires to the grandeur that his abuser wraps himself in and dreams of no longer being powerless- of having the power to hurt others like he was hurt- wyll doesn't.

wyll wants to be heroic. he wants to help people. he does the right thing, even when it hurts him. he gives and gives and gives and destroys himself in the process. even when his body is changed, one of his first thoughts is that he may scare the tieflings he worked so hard to help. he's so wrapped up in heroism that he forgets he is anything but the blade of frontiers. he forgets, under it all, that he is wyll. who was scared and hurting and who wanted to keep people from feeling the pain he did.

and it wouldn't be easy, but there is so much promise there. of wyll showing astarion the reward of kindness. being patient and talking him down from his pettiest impulses and cheering him on when he does good things, even if it's obviously reluctant or fake.

and astarion showing wyll that he can say no. that he can do things for himself. that it's okay to be a little selfish, to look in the mirror and grieve for who he was. to be angry. to look back and to be angry at those who wronged him and to feel all of those horrible un-heroic feelings that he is. to keep enough that he doesn't unmake himself in giving to others. that he doesn't have to hide himself under the knight-in-shining-armor facade constantly. it's okay to not always bounce back with a smile.

two destructive ends of the same spectrum. both victims of the same horrible sort of person. and if they meet in the middle, it won't fix them. but it will wrap bandages around the wounds they both carry, and they can see that they are not alone. this burden is not solely theirs to bear. and i think that's a very nice thought.

People still being willfully obtuse and going "hOW DaRe yOU InsULt mY bAby TiefLIng TAV" when Wyll is upset about having a traumatising body horror experience and now looking like a DEVIL, the beings he hunts and everyone (including the Tieflings) hates, makes me wanna rip out my hair.

I blame Larian to an extent for not at all handling Wyll's transformation with the care it deserved but this is mostly

1. people having piss on the poor reading comprehension and

2. people having a massive bias against Wyll

Throwing my hat in the annoyance that this is continuously brought up ring, but the select tiefling characters in game (if they were bothered with in giving them a reaction at all, i.e. Zevlor, Karlach, etc.) react with shock, dismay, and pity towards Wyll's transformation, and acknowledgment that what happened to him was bad. They understand it as a punishment; as something wholly different from what they are. Wyll is *not* a tiefling. He is a *devil* - the species that have played a massive part in the torment of the tieflings during the Fall and throughout their lives in the Hells.
