oh my god we finally got a teaser for gotchard's v-cin but instead of giving valvarad the ugliest suit known to mankind to fight some rando we've never heard of who's actually been The True Villain All Along™, the premise seems to just be "will rinne-chan tell hotaro-kun her true feelings?!"

im not sure how to exactly phrase it but i think the distinction for me is when a show feels like it has to compensate for its corporate mandated premise that can land weird for me, urobuchi on gaim being the ultimate example
gavv is nowhere NEAR that cynical feeling, not at all, the head writer of zenkaiger is obviously not embarrassed about getting silly with it. but this episode felt like it was trying too hard in a way that, say, gotchard's heel turn with dread did not, and so it came off as jarring to me
it's totally just being like "okay you've suspended your disbelief for gummy rider, and chips rider, and marshmallow Rider.. and they all have little guys... and also our main guy can destroy a truck without trying, now that you're in here" [locks doors] "let's talk about losing your mom and feeling super distant from everyone you meet because you're different and how that makes you feel"
when something is so stupid like Gavv is from the get go it can only get more serious in equal proportion
see im used to toshiki inoue locking me in a room and scaring me so komura doing it has caught me off guard
Honestly I think thats part of why this season's managed to rope me in so fast ngl is because it feels like ex aid and well we all know how that went on my end. the tonal whiplash is part of the fun i think
I think it’s interesting that Shoma’s monster dad seemed to care about him and his mom, I mean they could easy do a secret evil dad but it’d be nice if he was just a decent dad.
he could've been a Good Dad but a Bad Guy, considering he was running a company based around eating people
which, you know, could lead to some interesting drama if they went that route! but at this stage of my life when i get a whiff of dad drama in kamen rider i brace myself for the worst
I mean, they do have a human resources department. It's just that theirs is where other food companies have their ingredient procurement department. A more literal use of the term 'human resources' than one typically sees.
How are you feeling about the reveal that, while we already knew Shoma's mother died in front of him, we now know that the last thing she saw was her son about to die with no idea that the shrinky-dink power wouldn't work on him?
i have to be honest with you. we are teetering dangerously close to ex-aid territory where my ability to take this show seriously is truly being put to the test.
like im invested in the cast so far and komura seems to have a good grasp on what she's aiming for this year which is more than i can say for my experience with ex-aid, but the tonal whiplash between "my family held me down and forced me to watch as they killed my mother" -> "marshmallow attack ⚪️⚪️⚪️⚪️⚪️" feels very reminiscent of The Christmas Episode, and it winds up being hard to like. actually Feel it.
