And I would know you, in this life and many others. As a whisper drawn from secret places, born of forgotten dreams and crystalline memories yet to take shape. You were there, in those darkened halls. Sweeping across floors untouched by another soul. Each step leaving ghostly traces in dust, like footfalls on virgin snow. And it was there, in that long-forgotten space, untouched by time, that I knew you.

Water
It's fine, water under the bridge.
But that bridge, it burns, and dark rivers flow beneath.
Black with soot.
And it's a slow burn.
Bright embers glowing, waiting for the smallest gust of emotion to ignite, and send a bond on rickety, smoking planks, tumbling into the sound below.
An echo, all that remains.
I wrote this on the back of a time-sheet at work years ago. At the time, I feared that an important bond was on the verge of breaking. Though, it wasn't broken, it will never look like it once did. We have both grown as people, whether good or bad. Our experiences have changed us, as they often do.

Inspired by a dream of a friend.

Long ago, a stone felt a tingle on its skin. Moss. A new feeling. A green feeling. The granite spoke of ages in the heat of deep Earth. The moss sang the taste of sunlight and the softness of salamander bellies. They named one another. And told those names to no one at all.
