We don’t have a uniform, why do you ask?
Inspired by our friends at Rapid City Public Library (link goes to TikTok). Music only - sound not needed.
[Video Description: A librarian with glasses wearing a polo shirt and shelving books answers an unheard question from someone offscreen. His words are inaudible but the caption reads "The librarian wearing the cardigan and glasses will be able to help you." Video cuts to an information desk where four librarians wearing cardigans and glasses are working. They all turn and wave as four more librarians wearing cardigans and glasses pop out from behind the desk and wave. The librarian from the beginning walks on screen and puts on his own cardigan. And waves.]

I am a little freaked out because I just KNOW there are SO many middle of the road people who would rather vote for Trump than a brown woman (or throw their vote away on a third party, which is the same thing). I'm far from Biden's greatest fan but he was SAFE. he was PALATABLE. and THIS year of all years I was happy for THAT. Is there a bright side to this situation somewhere?
I talked a bit about this in the replies on the post. Basically, I'm deliberately choosing to be optimistic about it and to hit the pavement for voting as hard as I fucking can.
For what it's worth, there are also of reasons to believe (and this definitely top of the list now) that Biden's decline is worse than we've generally seen. Biden's safe-ness has been feeling increasingly precarious for a couple of months now, and I know I've been getting pretty worried about it.
Also for what it's worth, I firmly believe that if we win, it will be because abortion rights are on the ticket. That's something that Biden hasn't campaigned on very hard, and also arguably a more powerful issue to campaign on, with a woman at the top of the ticket.
The biggest reason I'm hopeful, though, and the main reason I posted it, is that Kamala Harris winning is quite possibly the best chance we have of the Palestinian genocide ending soon.

I can never tell which of my posts are going to explode (it is never ones I put work in) but I pray to God this one does
The past few weeks I have seen an explosion in doomerism and defeatism about Trump. Some people seem to have just decided to call the election for him for reasons that don't even make much sense
(He was almost shot and that always helps! Look at Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt! Reagan was already president and incredibly popular, and the shooting happened 2 months into his first term; Roosevelt was shot when he was campaigning in 1912....in an election he lost)
Trump has never been popular, he has never won the popular vote, and he has never had popular support. For the past 3 years, especially post Roe V. Wade, Democrats have increasingly overperformed especially in special elections. There were so many polls predicting 2022 would be a Red Wave, that turned out to be false due to faulty and biased polling. I'm not saying a Dem loss is impossible, but it is a lot less of a sure thing than the doomsayers are making it out to be
How does Trump win? Apathy. Despair. Low Turn Out. While many of the "Trump is guaranteed to win" posters I'm sure are real people who are justifiably scared, I think we underestimate just how many are people at home and abroad, who want a lower turnout, who want Trump to win.
I used to hear a joke growing up that "If voting did anything, they would make it illegal" Well considering how hard Republicans are trying to discourage voting and making it hard to do, it must do something.
Don't despair. Don't panic. Don't retreat. ACT
So what can you do?
Are you registered to vote? 🗳
You can register to vote here! ☑️
Do you know what/ who will be on your ballot? 📄
Do you know your state voting requirements? 📥
Do you know your polling location? 📍
Can you vote early? 🖊
Can you vote by mail? 📬
Do you need disability services for voting? ♿️
Do you need to know your voter’s rights? 🧑🏽‍⚖️
Do you need a ride to register/ vote?
Spread this far and wide. Tell your friends and your family. Make clear to them what is at stake if Trump wins.
Additionally, here are two volunteer organizations that I help out with
Vote Forward - write letters to encourage turnout
Working Family's Party - an organization working to help progressives win in primaries and general elections. I particularly like working in their text bank program. Want to help in a phone bank but don't like talking on the phone? this is perfect as you send texts to encourage support and voting
Spread this far and wide. Tell your friends and your family. Make clear to them what is at stake if Trump wins. Feel free to add other resources and organizations that

people who say it's difficult to get into comics are weak and won't survive the winter. you pick a random comic, google "read online free" and then you read a hundred issues of a run you'll like well enough but realize really sucks like two years later.

I know plenty of people got hit pretty hard by Hurricane Beryl. Lots of us are pretty miserable right now, and the heat is posing a serious heath risk for some.
Try calling your local library! In my county, some of the more functional branches are acting as cooling centers, and everyone I talked to at my branch is thrilled to be providing a cool space and internet connection for the community!
Obviously, it’s not going to fix all of your problems, or make the power company fix things any faster. But in these situations, anything helps!
Sounds like good advice!
Hope you and everyonr else affected are as well as you can be 💜

While I just posted this poll last night, I want to do a related one that accounts for some options I missed.
Feel free to go to the other poll for more specific usage periods! No one has to give any personal details! If you want to specify what kind of libraries you traverse and/or often use their online resources (public library, school library, academic library, special libraries, etc.), feel free to say what kind in the tags!
And for any library workers, feel free to put your job position you're in (only if you want to, do not feel pressured to!)
(Plugging @queerliblib for their fantastic selection of queer books through Libby! Here's their website!)
Here's a few pics of my cats with books I've read 😊:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Risa is next to Amanda Gorman's poetry book, Call Us What We Carry, which was FANTASTIC! She is an amazing writer!
Luffy in next to The Library Book by Susan Orlean, but #1 FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL-TIME! 😁💖
IDs in the alt (I tried my best, I hope they're good for the most part 😅)
Anyway, support libraries 💜

!!!!!!!!!!!!
My last post on this didn’t get a ton of traction so I’m trying again. The latest budget proposal for NYC includes a $58.3 million cut to public libraries.
Previous cuts forced NYC public libraries to close on Sundays, and this further round of cuts would likely force libraries to end weekend service entirely. Additionally, it would mean further cuts to programming and the indefinite delay of reopening libraries that have been closed for renovation, which would leave entire neighborhoods without a library.
There is a preliminary budget hearing on May 21, and until then libraries are asking people to sign a letter here to urge the mayor’s office and city council to reverse the cuts.
I know things are terrible in a lot of ways right now and people probably feel overwhelmed and burnt out, but signing this letter (or reblogging this post) is a small, quick, concrete way to make a difference.

Hi! Question for ya. I just got a job at a library in a suburb-rural town. I'm the assistant for adult programing. Most of our patrons are grade school aged or retired. Adult programs are attended almost exclusively by the elderly. I love this for them, but ...how do I get younger adults to come to the library? I'll be 30 soon and all my friends are overworked, busy, and stressed. (up until recently, I myself was too overworked, busy, and stressed to even read, let alone visit the library). So I get it. But libraries are so great and I want everyone to enjoy what we offer and offer things they will enjoy! So what do you think? What will get my peers to the library?
I have a few thoughts as some rando but as always, if any folks with actual library experience have any advice please sound off in replies and reblogs!
Consider some clubs or activities that would appeal to a slightly younger crowd, for example one of my libraries has an anime club strictly for adults! Maybe you could do somethong similar as well as ones for manga, or even other hobbies like video games or TTRPGs? (Please know that my interests skew pretty nerdy, shockingly, so IDK if this is necessarily the kind of stuff that would get a ton folks in the door or not lol) Plllllth, I remember when I was in school during exam weeks there would sometimes be events where you can play with dogs for a little while, somethibg like that might appeal to stressed younger adults? Or it could br some kinda dog adoption even you could collaberate with a local animal shelter for. I am spitballing I do not know what the logistics of some of this would be.
You definitely wanna get the word out about new clubs/activities, maybe you could consider social media posts if you aren't already? Also local coffee shops and grocery stores often have billboards you can hang stuff up on, you could put some advertising in those kinds of places.
And I know that libraries usually have a more limited schedule over the weekends, but speaking as someone in her mid 20s who is also often busy and/or stressed and would love to do more activities in my community but so many of them all line up with when I'm working or have other obligations, pretty pleaaaaaase consider hosting things during the weekend if that's at all a possibility ;A; or at the very least after normal work hours

Also picking up new books you’ve never heard of before because the premise sounds neat or the cover is pretty or it’s on a themed library display or you’re just trying to read your library’s entire catalogue of 90s cyberpunk is just fun. Sometimes it’s not your thing but you get to mull over new ideas or the diversity of people and opinions and thoughts in the world. Sometimes you discover your new favorite book of all time

Do you know if there's currently a tumblr community out there for library professionals? I'm debating creating one, but I wouldn't want to do it if there's already a big one.
I haven't touched communities at all honestly lol so I have no idea. If anyone knows of one sound off!
