With AoS4 on the way, and more importantly for me; Spearhead, I’ve taken the plunge and bought the Cities box.

Wanted a very rudimentary soldiery in browns and greys, but juxtaposed with a more regal purple and gold.

Mini Painting - Qulathis the Exile

A friend of mine got Cursed City and asked us if we’d like to paint our characters. Having used Amallyn Shadowguide in Blackstone Fortress, and still having my Wood Elf army book from back when Old Kingdom was just “Warhammer”, I jumped at the chance to pick the Wood Elf adjacent Qulathis the Exile.

Was finally able to find some time to get Amallyn painted in my army colours.

Got these guys finished up a little while ago but couldn’t find time to get the snapped, so here they are!

How come the pics I take with them in my grubby fingers always come out better quality than when I try and crack out the photo booth?

Anyway, here’s the Knights Reclaimant, a warband all clad in Terminator (and Dreadnought) armour, on near-suicidal quests to reclaim lost Terminator armour from the most dangerous of resting places so the Emperor’s protection can enter service once more.

These minis are all from the Space Marine Heroes line, and a few of them were later reused in one of the smaller board game boxes GW made.

Mini Painting - Terminators

Painted all the chapter specific arms on my terminators, a mix of Space Marine Heroes, Leviathan, and Space Hulk kits. They're a bit Deathwatchy, except that instead of being entirely made up of other chapters, they have a majority of their own chapter (Knights Reclaimant) but take other suits of terminator armour or even terminators themselves from other chapters, usually to assist in reclaiming relics.

I still need to find a custom decal/transfer place so I can finish up the shoulder pads on a few of them.

Mini Painting - Terminator Accessories

During lockdown I bought a set of the Terminators from Space Hulk, which included some additional objective markers. I also split Leviathan with a friend so had this teleport homer to paint. Figured I'd get them boxed off first.

Mini Painting - Wraithblades

Bodies and bases painted for my Wraithblades. These have been magnetised at the arm and wrist so they can use any loadout in the box; swords, axes, cannons, D-scythes, they can be swapped out whenever.

Unfortunately that does mean I have to paint all those fiddly bits. Eventually.

For whatever reason insta hasn't been sharing to tumblr (can it even do that anymore?), so I'll be posting some stuff that's been missed. I'm not particularly active on here all that much so IG's probably the best place to follow me for painting stuff:

Completely forgot to post my dudes. 22 classic plastic Eldar Guardians saved from the dustbin of history with some Dettol, spit, and polish. Think this is the third time some of these have been painted, but it’s the first time all of them have been done and to a degree I’m happy with.

Final pic of them on game day. Played a few Boarding Actions, these went up against Death Guard (and took the W).

After a billion years, they’re finished! Eldar Wraithseer and Wraithlord finally painted and ready to go. Only thing I’d really do here is gloss varnish the faceplate.

Gold and red brought back up to midtone on the big wraiths after yesterday’s wash (4 & 5). Also threw a little greenery on the autarch bases. The Wraithseer is now primed and ready to go. Tried for a subtle zenithal so it still looks black, unsure how well that’s turned out but we’ll wait and see. Also since the seer comes with a wraithlord kit, I’ve built a tragic casualty into my wraithknight’s base. And I also managed to turn a few xmas gift boxes I hadn’t gotten round to throwing out into a cheapo airbrush booth. All in all, pretty productive. Calling it there. Let it all cure and then he’s ready to prime. Base doesn’t have quite as much floaty debris as I’d have liked, but getting that spot on is gonna be far more trouble than it’s worth. Went to Warhammer World last weekend and picked myself up a souvenir Wraithseer. Pretty much finished on the build. Just need to add a little to the base and maybe do some clean-up. The Wraithlord/seer kit is in such a strange place. The miniature is cool, but the limbs and hands are really static. Not sure if it was intentional to show they’re stiff automatons, or to give builders room to manipulate the sculpt, but out of the box it can be a very tricky model to get looking dynamic. Also a “boooo” to GW/FW: If you pay over the odds for a kit, you should get instructions with it. No instructions for the Seer upgrade parts is one thing, but not including the base lord instructions with the sprues is baffling, particularly when those instructions are not on your website.
