nothing interesting to see here, and definitely nothing about the life of a phd researcher

This evening is the kind of evening that feels like the world is unending and unchanging, yet somehow in a peaceful way... I think it's the moisture hanging in the air?

Last year I watched the royal tattoo and was amazed by the Highland dancers - at the time I'd been dancing for 6 months, about an hour a week.
I just saw a clip of this year's show and I recognised all the steps they were doing! And I can dance them (not as nicely, but still)
... I wish I felt the same kind of confidence looking at my PhD research

For the first time in my Spotify history I am not in the top 10% of Taylor Swift listeners - I got demoted to top 13% 🤐
But if we ignore me somehow drastically underestimating how much I listen to Fearless, I guessed decently on my top 5 albums pretty well

Below the poll is a series of animal images labeled A through J. A is the least close to the birds we have today; J is the closest. If you encountered these animals in the wild, which would you call birds? If you pick a higher up option, then that means you consider all the below ones birds as well - so if you pick A, then BCDEFGHIJ are all birds. If you pick J, only J is a bird.

PLEASE REBLOG THIS SO IT CAN LEAVE PALAEOBLR. I NEED PEOPLE WHO DON'T RECOGNIZE THESE ANIMALS ON SIGHT TO VOTE.
I apologize to all of y'all with vision impairments for whom this poll is inaccessible. Alas, this is an experiment, and I cannot name the taxa. Thank you.

It's a good thing I didn't have the self-confidence for crop tops when they were a thing in the 2010s because nowadays at the slightest hint of summer I'm like "time to get a hint of midriff out" and I just don't think I could've pulled it off at 13

Woke up
Saw someone is going to present a paper on my PhD topic almost exactly working with an organisation that ignored my emails for months
Had a panic attack
Considered dropping out/emigrating to Australia
Bought myself a silly little overpriced drink for my mental health
Called a different organisation who said they're happy to help me with my research
Aaaaaaaaaa
Why are phd's so emotionally draining???

Just want to get in on this survey thing, ans the question is in my head! I feel like the best group chats i've been in have been 4 to 6 people?
But as of recently I've been part of a 12 person chat and it's also quite nice, but not super active...

My friends range in age from around 21 to around 32, and in fact none of the 30 and over people know each other but in my head I keep referring to them all collectively as "my 30-year-olds" like they're a bunch of pets
They're all very lovely though, would recommend having some 30-year-old friends
#I hope that's what my 21-year-old friend thinks of me#I wanna be one of their designated 25-year-olds

I'm on hinge occasionally and truly outdid myself today
So one of of those AI recommended matches, a woman popped up who had a photo of herself in a yoga pose with the caption "I can teach you how to do this". She seemed very cool overall so I did want to message her.
About what though? Well, obviously, my first instinct was to try to get in the pose. I got it on the third attempt!
But I also fell out of the pose onto my phone and managed to delete the suggested match.
On the bright side, I guess she did teach me how to do the pose.

ok. icebreaker-type question. imagine time travel exists, but all of the serious super big things that likely come to mind when time travel is a factor is stuff youre not “qualified” for, as a civilian. what stupid, petty, thing do you use time travel for?
personally, i’d buy this one limited-time pin from a con i had no chance of going to, and also buy some transformers animated toys while they were still being sold.
#Meet my grandparents when they're in their 20s#So they're my age and I can become their friend and learn about them as people rather than grandparents#Also meet my great-grandfather who I suspect was pretty cool#Maybe also meet my parents in their 20s for the same reason?

Sometimes I worry that Scottish children need to be told not to shove their granny aff a bus, but then I remember that German grandmas get stuck in car boots every christmas and go on motorcycle rides in chicken coops...

People don’t talk enough about how easy it is to sleep in the dirt.
Like at a certain point on a dig day you BECOME THE DIRT.
And then comfy lil cozy crevices where you just dug start ~calling your name~
