The authenticity to be found in its soundtrack is reflected throughout the film. The members’ demon-fighting weaponry reflects the real tools and practices of shamanism, and Rumi, Mira, and Zoey all wear the traditional norigae accessory attached to their waists. Even the [weapons] for HUNTR/X resemble a norigae knot! Rumi’s weapon is based on the Four Tiger Sword, a ritual blade used during the Joseon Dynasty. In Korean cosmology, the four cardinal directions are guarded by four mythic tigers, and this sword symbolizes their protective strength. Zoey’s sinkal as one of the most unique weapons with close ties with Shamanic history. Used in shamanic gut ceremonies, the sinkal is a small ritual dagger—not for combat, but for symbolic cleansing. The sole purpose is to “cut” spiritual negativity and protect the ritual space. Meanwhile, Mira’s woldo, also called gokdo...is a pole weapon with a massive crescent-shaped blade. Used by elite military units during the Joseon Dynasty, it demanded strength and agility. It was also featured in court dances and processions, choreographed to evoke harmony between heaven and earth.

Have a read through Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud, extremely great book talking about the medium of comics, it's long but my god is it good. I think chapter 4 is particularly useful for ppl w/o a lot of comic experience.

Remember that comics are not storyboards for tv/film, they do things way cooler than that (see tip #2) 😎

Read lots of comics!! i consumed manga in my teens at an unholy pace + learnt a lot unconsciously while doing so. (I read a lot less now unfortunately and maybe manage a graphic novel every 6 months)

JUST DO IT, DONT THINK, JUST MAKE COMICS, THEY MIGHT BE BAD OR A LITTLE UNCREATIVE AT FIRST AND THAT'S GREAT BC YOU MADE A COMIC AND YOU ONLY GET BETTER WITH PRACTICE, JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

Kate wraps Yelena up, blanket and all, and holds her.

The thing Kate was never prepared for when she thought she wanted to be an Avenger, was how things feel after the chaos. After fighting for your life or the lives of so many innocent people, against horrors that are unimaginable until you’re face to face with them.

Because when you’re alone in your home, after the sun sets and the world quiets, it’s all you can see. There’s no real escape, not distraction loud enough to push the images out of your mind - the screams and the way people sound when they’re hurt or dying.

It’s something Kate is getting used to, for better or worse, but today was different. Today was…

“It’s okay,” Yelena breathes into her neck and Kate tries to take a breath only to feel it hitch in her throat. The first indication that she’s crying.

Yelena moves them slowly through the apartment, never letting her go as they make their way towards the couch and she slowly guides them to sit. “I’m here, солнышко.” Yelena’s hands press hard into her shoulders as she rubs them. “So are you, we’re okay.”

Kate crumbles even more. “I did my best,” she cries. “I tried so hard to save him. I tried…”

“I know, I know you did. Of course you did.” Yelena shifts up onto her knees to be a little bit taller than Kate, which lets her cradle Kate’s head in her hands and kiss her forehead. “You saved so many, Kate. So many, I saw you leading them out of that building. You did well.”

“I’m not crazy though, right? Like O.X.E Group…Oscorp! They sound so similar! I can't be the only one who gets them confused.”

Kate can't help it that this is the first thing she thought of when she woke up. Well not the first thing, the first thing was Yelena’s hand on her lower back tracing various shapes, but this thought was a very close second.

Still, when she’s met with silence, Kate rolls over onto her back and turns her head to see Yelena watching her. Yelena, with her hair a little mussed up and her eyes blinking slowly, is just grinning at her. “What?”

“You are so weird.”

Kate huffs, “I’m weird? You broke into a corner market last night because they’re the only ones who carry that sauce you like.”

“I left money on the counter for it.” Yelena sends back with a touch of indignance in her voice. “Besides, Miguel likes me, he’ll know it was me and he’ll smile when he sees the money.”

“Uh huh, only you would make friends with someone you steal from.”

Yelena shifts then, bringing their faces even closer together. Under the covers, she puts her hand on Kate’s hip and squeezes just a little. “It is not stealing. I do not steal.”

Kate raises a brow, a tiny smirk threatening to escape. “Wasn’t your whole thing before The New Avengers that you were stealing for your weirdly hot boss lady.”

“She is not my boss.” Yelena cringes. “If anything, I am her boss now.”

“My point still stands.”

There’s no response just yet, Yelena simply eyeing her, as she does so often. Each time, Kate just lets her. She will never not enjoy the way Yelena studies her - watches her like she might be able to read Kate’s mind if she tries hard enough. “Let us go back to your previous question, about the O.X.E and Oscorp of it all.”

It’s a deflection, but dammit it works. “It’s just weird! Who names their company with the letter O? Then two extremely shady companies do it and we’re not supposed to think they’re in collusion with each other?”

Yelena hums, the hand on Kate’s hip lifting just enough that her fingers brush along the skin - making Kate shiver. “Well you certainly were a fan of the letter O last night, after I gave you not one but two org-”

“Okay, that’s - we’re good, you don’t…don’t finish that sentence because we have to get up soon and if you do I won’t be able to not…”

“Fuck me like you did last night?”

“Yelena!”

Well, specifically, one member of a band, who is apparently owed a favor by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine — she’s the head of O.X.E; they’ve run the festival for the past few years — so, as you can imagine, she's not a person who cashes out on favors very often, but — " “Okay,” Kate cuts in, a strange reversal of their typical dynamic. “Jeez, Clint, spit it out already.” Clint’s mouth pinches in a way that only ever happens on rare occasion, and only when he’s experiencing genuine discomfort. “It was Yelena,” he says simply, leaving the rest unsaid. And when it comes to Yelena, this leaves a lot unsaid.
