Pet peeve in the Daredevil fandom. Lots of people seem to understand that there's a social element to blind people's glasses - that is, wearing them so people aren't made uncomfortable by the way your eyes look or thinking you're staring inappropriately.

I rarely see anyone talking about the MUCH more important social element, which is just... letting people know that you're blind?? Like, the glasses-cane combo is functional but one of the major functions is just alerting people around you that you can't see, so they get out of your way and accommodate you.

And I never ever see anyone talking about the primary FUNCTIONAL purpose of glasses for NLP (no light perception) blind folks like Matt: when you can't perceive light, you can't tell if you're getting sunlight or other harmfully bright lights in your eyes. Just because you can't see doesn't mean the tissue of your eyes can't be seriously damaged by light, and NLP folks are at a much higher risk of eye injury from sun exposure.

Every time I read a fic where Matt like. Liberates himself and proves his trust and devotion to his partner by taking his glasses off while they're walking around, I die a little inside. HE IS GONNA INJURE HIS EYEBALLS.
