𝐀𝐥𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐲

is the magical branch specializing in transmutation, or the tranformation of matter. For the alchemists, all matter is composed of indivisible elements in various states and assembled through various operations. These elements can be represented in these circles, which help explain their interactions. They can be in a solid (🜃), liquid (🜄), gaseous (🜁), or plasma (🜂) state, although other special states may exist.

Once these simple theoretical rules are established, using this form of magic is complex and not for everyone. There are many fields of research, even more grimoires, and these are codified in obscure terms that sometimes only the author can comprehend. Symbols are abundant and repeated, a common word can have several hidden meanings, metaphors hide the true meaning of formulas, and at the end no one really knows how alchemists operate. Some techniques are instantaneous and involve drawn circles covered with symbols; others are slow, requiring preparation of formulas and extensive use of equipment, tools, and glassware. Transmutation is always accompanied by lightning, smoke, sounds, smells, or sometimes all at once.

The most well-known applications of alchemy are the chrysopoiesis (transformation of matter into gold) and the search for the panacea (a cure for all diseases) through the Great Work, the synthesis of the Philosopher's Stone. But actually alchemy has many other applications : crafting objects with incredible properties, modify the environment, preparing potions or spells to escape various situations, healing and poisoning. Alchemy is the art of modifying the fabric of matter, and is only bound by imagination.

Hi !!! I made this post in 2019 on @chimeride which is still relevant, it talks about creature design, artists on tumblr and visual identity for example. But i can also talk about recent things and what I do beside the Éphéméride !

I’ve been spending less time on the art side of social medias lately (for more memes and politics ahah), so the influence has changed a bit, and part of me wish I could spend more time watching art online but idk it's just not too much in my habits atm. Besides, i read and watch youtube videos about folklore and tales, documentaries about science, occult and history, stuff like SCP and the backrooms, or worldbuilding in video games etc. and i think it somehow shows in what I draw Also I spend quite some time in flea markets, and I have done more museums lately which has led to the creation of @dudukbazaar in 2024 (even if the first sketches are from 2016). All of this ties with my dream i have since i was 10 to make a video game : now i have a bestiary and an inventory !! (im so far from this goal ahahah)

Last thing is obviously I love science, and i’ve found out recently that my approach of drawing is encyclopedic (?), and i’m basically just collecting monsters and other little things i like, like maps or characters or items etc, in my sketchbooks. Maybe one day i will wrap everything in my own encyclopedy ? I've also always liked body horror, which is weirdly tied with my work as a (soon) pathologist, but being overworked makes me less enclined to draw stuff around medecine lately, so these themes are shifting towards fantasy, with necromancy or the Organian Reef for recent examples.

As I said in 2019, it is impossible to track and to talk about every artist I appreciate. But, everytime somebody says that my work makes them think about another artist, i keep it in a note. They arent exactly all my inspirations, but they somehow places me in the galaxy of every other artists, and i’m so glad to be compared with them !! Here is the list so far :
