Some pretty good marketing behind this new NIN record. You'd almost think it was for a movie.

yoooo new Tron trailer looks sick af! Fuck it, I'm excited. Yeahyeahyeah, the dead horse of "no one asked for Leto." But look at what we do have! NIN, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Jeff Bridges… Glimpses of the 82 designs… the incredible Gillian Anderson playing a Dillinger! (Gillinger, if you will) An intriguing plot?! In an existing D*sney IP in 2025?! Hello hello, come right in
Hundreds of artists worked on this and yknow what, I'm not gonna let one asshole ruin that.
also as my partner pointed out, given the plot of "disposable digital super soldier," that means I'm gonna see Leto die multiple times, baby I am gonna be SO hydrated

Another Ares thought. I know the Dillingers and Flynns are very different, and this strategy will probably (hopefully) be condemned in the movie itself. But the way Flynn planned to use the Grid as a way to reshape medicine and art and philosophy, and this new system is basically just being used to create weapons and an army… idk. Considering everything going on in the world right now, that shift isn’t lost on me and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

There’s a scene I want in Ares that I know won’t happen, and it’s just Quorra watching the press conference about bringing AI to the real world from a little apartment somewhere like

When I made this I didn't know that there was a Tron 3 coming out. I just thought neon lights would look cool and be easy to photoshop (and I was right).
I edited this pic. And then I decided to edit this pic for individual flags.
And here's a blank/transparent version for all the flags I missed.

hello tronblr this is my shameless self plug and also me begging on my hands and knees for people to join my silly little rp server PLEASE.
it's set, before legacy. kind of between it and uprising. i'm doing this because i've had insane brainworms llike so many thoughts, you wouldn't understand. (you probably would, actually)
it's also got a bunch of normal channels so, if you also would just like to hang out that would be nice too. i like talking

Something I really appreciate about Tron Legacy is how it refuses to separate Kevin Flynn and CLU. With legacy(hah!) characters like this, it's so tempting to just focus on the positives and uphold their awesomeness as The Character You Love!
But while there are definitely differences between Old Man Flynn and CLU, mainly because the former has been forced to sit back and reevaluate his priorities for however long, (twenty years in the real world, much longer in Grid time) it's also repeatedly emphasized how similar they are in so many ways.
"IN THERE... IS OUR DESTINY" vs "OUT THERE... IS OUR DESTINY"
"It must have really been something special before CLU screwed it all up." "No, I screwed it up."
The scene of CLU's creation with the mirror symbolism is not at all subtle, and I love it for that
How genuinely charismatic CLU is, his use of more human mannerisms at times; like gripping and shaking Jarvis's shoulder in approval after he brings good news
And heck, even more indirect things like his massive ego (the speech Jarvis delivers before the Lightcycle arena, which massively talks CLU up and was apparently written by him) which just kinda tracks with how much of a cocky asshole (affectionate) Flynn was in the original movie.
Ironically their point of divergence; the discovery of the ISOs and CLU's coup/genocide, was what caused Flynn to grow past these flaws, and even then I appreciate that the movie doesn't paint them as gone entirely. ("You're... you're really messing with my zen thing, man!" Is probably my favorite line of the movie lol)
But even with that, there might still be the temptation to make it out that CLU became corrupt, or strayed away from Flynn's goals, and that was why everything went so wrong - all to avoid painting a beloved legacy character in a negative light.
So I'm just repeatedly impressed by the handling that doesn't take that easy way out; CLU is still doing his job as he was programmed to, while Flynn was the one who diverged; and his villainous turn and behavior was rooted in Flynn's own issues and shortsightedness at the time. (Must have been sobering as hell for him to realize, given everything that went down after the coup.) It's a really fascinating and underrated take on the typical Evil Copy trope.
