Edward curled himself more, somehow hoping that it would make him invisible and not confront the reality of the situation. He wasn't ready, he wasn't and he might never will.

When the door opened, he cried louder and buried his face on his knees. He was afraid, he was terribly scared and he didn't know what to do.

Merida heard the despair, the sadness, and all the lost hope in his voice, and decided there was no way she could leave him. "Edward, I know how ta pick locks!" She threatened, pulling at the handle. "Ah'll get in mahself!" She said, but her voice faltered. She could not leave him. Not in this state. She turned to the quiver that sat at her hip, and her hand dived in, searching for something to pry open the lock. She finally found a pin, and shoved it into the lock hole, wriggling it around a bit to open it up.
