Thunderbolts* is such a beautiful piece of art. Some people are sick of hero movies, I honestly can’t understand it because I do love the genre but just because that’s like the main thing it doesn’t mean they don’t tell stories and this one is a very good example. The theme is mental health and they handle it with much care and attention that it really is like therapy. These characters represent people on their daily lives and the struggles they suffer from living in a modern world with a very flawed society, where you feel lonely, unworthy, unlovable, a fraude and many many more things, I, on my part, have had pretty serious dark thoughts these past few months and watching this movie made me feel seen. I felt so related to all of them but specially to Yelena and Bob, from the very moment the movie starts and i heard Yelena’s first words I started crying because it was like being inside my head and my thoughts were being said out loud, and with Bob surrendering so easily because he was tired and didn’t want to keep suffering, it was heartbreaking, raw and so so so real. Then again, im a sucker for found family trope, and even tho Avengers felt in some way like that, I think only Guardians of the Galaxy actually did a pretty good job representing it, but with Thunderbolts* felt realer, because those are actual human beings with no super powers (at least some of them) that don’t know how to act with others, have self destructive patterns, a low perception of themselves and no purpose. Watching my own hardships being portrayed in the closest possible way to real life helped a little to soften the pain inside me and i realised how much I long for my own found family and why I always look for it in movies, shows, books. Like Valentina said, we all want to be chosen and loved and actually feel like we’re worthy of something. These characters have already a more deeper connection that the Avengers had and i get it because they were just friends and at the end each of them had their own path. The MCU is something entirely separate from this movie because this one is special and doesn’t need to be a part of anything. So I hope that if you are done with super hero movies, you can give this one a chance, because it truly is worth it. It is genuinely heartwarming how art is still the only thing to bring me comfort and even if im all alone right now, at least I know there are other people feeling like that too, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll find each other.
