#anyone saying bullshit about them being happier without each other#just because they've hurt each other doesn't mean they never made each other happy#just because they screwed up doesn't mean they didn't love each other#some people bring out the worst in you and others bring out the best#and then there are the remarkably rare addictive ones that bring out the most#they make you feel so alive you'd follow them straight to hell#is it healthy? no but i don't think it's possible for either of them to have a healthy relationship#not just because they're vampire but because of their history what they've been through individually and together#but they can become healthier and find some sort of balance#which is what this season is about#damon and elena are it for each other#even if elena seemed happy and thriving she wasn't the same person anymore#she died the day damon died#her reality died and all she could do to go on was pretend he was there#but when she realized she was hurting people and there was no hope to get him back#she had to cut him out of her heart because she had become dangerous#and even then she couldn't do it on her own#she needed another lie to survive#he died and broke their promise#and she died emotionally and broke their promise#but in the heart of all of it she never stopped loving him and neither did he#and simplest interactions with him made her loosen up around him where she was scared#she'd fall in love with damon a 1000 times no matter how many times they had to start from scratch#and damon would love all forms of her#because that's just who they are

He didn’t even think at that point she would ever love him or be with him, but he just was thrilled because he’d have her in his life always. He never wanted to lose her, in whatever form. That was enough for him, if he couldn’t be with her.

"You and I - we’re messy and complicated. But we’re real" 

"And really really bad for each other. Did you forget that part?"

"Yeah, but I still need you in my life”

Here Elena and Damon knew they loved each other, but didn’t know if they worked with all the mess they made or if they should be together. But she loved him and she just wanted him in her life, forever, in whatever form. That was enough for her, if she couldn’t be with him.

The fact that they both love this way…………..

Damon knows Elena hates Chardonnay

Damon knows when Elena is trying to hide her smile around him, even when it’s barely visible

Damon always knew that in that moment in MMF they both felt it.

Elena knows when Damon is lying about the memory, even when she doesn’t remember anything good about him(yes I’m assuming here but it was too obvious even if she didn’t say it)

Damon realized that Elena was perfect for him when she got in the car with him in 5x22 because she was just as insane

Damon thought after she crossed the border risking her life to get her memories back that she was better off without him because she was just as insane…………………………………………………

So she got into the car with him when he was about to risk his life to save their town and Stefan

The only thing worse than dying without seeing him was living without him for her

So they walked into their own deaths holding hands, just like from another time when they held hands while kissing each other under the pouring rain that didn’t seem like it was going away, making promises that they’d last forever.

While over the years, Elena has stolen Damon’s drinks more often, Damon was the one to first to steal drinks from Elena in 1x11.

Bree poured them all shots, and before they entered the bar Elena questioned him about compulsion and said she was 17 and wouldn’t be allowed to drink there and he said she would here, but when Bree turned around, he stole Elena’s shot and that slight gesture made her smile at him doing it and trust him a little more, which is why later in the episode she says she wants a beer and he’s surprised but it’s a underhanded way of her trusting him, even knowing what he’d done and was capable of.
