Storyteller Saturday
Once again, Saturday has struck! And once again, I want to attempt to revive this lovely event! (It was a whole lot of fun last week!)
Reblog this post if you want people to send you asks about your writing, wip, or characters today! For each ask you get, try and send one back in return!
This event was originally started by @lonely-pages-of-ink and @drist-n-dither, and was a huge, incredibly fun writeblr event when I first joined this community, but has since fallen in participation and awareness. You can read the original info post here!
And don’t feel shy about sending asks to writeblrs you know nothing about—this is a wonderful way to get to know new stories, and make new friends!

Happy Storyteller Saturday! How has your work/process changed since you started writing?
It's much longer now. My first attempt at a novel had about six chapters before I abandoned it, but they were all less than five pages. (I was nine.) My current works have an average of about 2500-3000 words per chapter.
My process hasn't changed much. I get an idea, figure out characters and a general plot, then just go for it.
More recently, I have been trying to alter my writing style to include more description and to show instead of tell. A lot of my writing, even recently, is heavily dialogue-based. I'm not making a ton of progress, but I am getting better at it.

Poppies
Petals of blood
Bloom from grief
And crown the god of death.
Flowers of sleep.
Flowers of dreams.
Hypnos and Morpheus
Bless thy slumber.
And in the land of death
You rest on a river shore,
The shore of forgetfulness,
The river known as Lethe.

@welcometowriteblr 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓: 𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟐 - 𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒
S A N V I  ↳ She remembered Adrian’s words. “Earn his trust.” He’d said. “Be his friend.       Be his closest counsel. Make him believe that no one in his world is more       trustworthy than you.” Sanvi suddenly shuddered, as she continued looking       at him, and he looked back. She didn’t feel like looking away, like she       normally would’ve, blushing. They looked at each other with curiosity, and he     even tilted his head to his side, raising an eyebrow.     I will be your friend. She said to herself. And I will break your heart.
Z O S I A  ↳ “What the hell is wrong with you?”       Sanvi swiftly turned around, looking bewildered. “Excuse me?”      “We haven’t made progress in four years. Did you really just say that? You are      the Light Runner’s Executioner. You are probably the second most feared      Praedite in this country. You are this close to joining his inner circle. Earning      his trust. I have been spying on the two most important people in this      country, with the help of the most revered veteran in history. Saying this isn’t     progress is as good as calling me a human.”
A D R I A N  ↳ “This feels wrong.” Adrian muttered for the umpteenth time.       Jaxara sighed. “Most people reply with a ‘thank you’ when someone wishes       them happy birthday.”      Adrian glared at her. “My birthday is the least of my concerns. And to be     honest, it doesn’t feel like a happy birthday. It’s more of a ‘everything could go    wrong and I don’t know how to feel about that’ birthday.”
T H E  L I G H T  R U N N E R ↳ “No.” The Light Runner shifted, as the words he’d rehearsed a week before       slipped from his tongue. She may not be able to read him, but he could       read every move she made. The narrowed eyes, looking curiously at him,      as though she was his servant.      He knew it was all pretend. She only bowed out of respect. Not out of        submission.

Happy MaGM! For any character you wish, I am asking this: What kind of place gives you peace? Like, when you are angry or sad, is there a place you can go and relax or you prefer turning to a person or other creature to deal with the frustration? It could be a hobby, a habit or anything else too. - from @dotr-rose-love
Vesta-Luna: My mother’s favorite garden. We would go there nearly everyday. I like the other gardens as well, but this particular one is the most special. Whenever I go there, I instantly feel comforted, as though she is there with me.
Raidyn: Wherever Vesta-Luna is. I know that I can always count on her to keep me grounded, no matter what the situation is. She’s one of the kindest and most empathetic people that I have ever met.
Anastasia: Anywhere quiet where I can be alone. I find comfort in periods of solitude. I love being at court, but everything has to be carefully calculated. It is, I admit, rather exhausting. In solitude, I am free to say what I feel or simply gather my thoughts. I especially enjoy ships as two of the most important people in my life are, let us just say, travelers.
Cassia: The forest, preferably the forests of Vuidel. Nature has always had a relaxing quality in my opinion. The magical forests of Vuidel always feel teeming with life and energy.
Vel: Not a place or person, but an activity. Anytime I have a sword in my hands, I feel control. I can stop feeling powerless and prepare myself to fight back, even if I can’t just attack everyone involved in a situation. It’s always nice to imagine cutting someone’s head off when they annoy you.
Zoyechka: Taverns. No one’s alcohol can compare to what you get in Urscor, but it’s not too awful. Taverns remind me of simpler times, and help me drown my problems.
Kaidyn: The library. Fiction or non-fiction, it’s always nice to read about how awful someone else’s life is. I also like the quiet.
Anastasia: I second that. Libraries are amazing.

Ooh, I like it.
For The Flaming Crown:
Vesta-Luna: Who else is lying to me? Is everyone okay? What happened to Kaidyn? Elves suck. That was weird, what was that? Please shut up. (Explanation for that last thing, she hears a voice that annoys her constantly.)
Anastasia: I hate my parents. What if I wore a crown? No, that's dumb. Maybe I can meet a foreign prince. Oh, I'm needed. No one can do anything without me. I wonder what my brother's doing. No, ignore him, he'll ruin my reputation.
Emmeline: Why do men suck? I see the appeal of becoming a priestess. Why would anyone want to be a priestess? Fun fact, if you expect anything but the bare minimum, you will be disappointed.
Raidyn: What happened? Not important, stay focused. Duty before everything. I'm a guard, unless I'm not. No, I am. Guards guard, I have to guard.
Zoyechka: *internal screaming* Can I go home now? Actually, I don't want to, I just don't want to be here.
Cassia: Vel. We're safe. I hope. Everything will be okay. If it's not, then I'll just die. Literally. It's fine; everything is perfectly fine. We're so dead.
Vel: It's all my fault. Have to protect Cassia.
Ciaran: I'm the only competent one around here. I know everything. Why must I know everything? No one can know. Is that food?
Tagging: @inky-duchess @commasinsidequotes @writeblrfantasy @mayawritesbooks @owlsofstarlight
What my OCs have in their heads instead of brains
I wasn’t tagged, but I saw @austrohungarianwriteblr‘s new tag game and it looked like fun ^-^
Rules: Basically put a picture or a sentence of what your characters always seem to have on their mind. Or what they have in their heads except brains. =)
Sparrow: Internal screaming and ‘this isn’t what was in the game.’
Jalen: More internal screaming, to-do lists, keep Sparrow from dying, keep Sparrow from dying, Oh no, Sparrow’s about to die.
Claude: Don’t blow up the workshop, double check the runes, did I teach her to do this enchantment the right way? I’m not in pain, I’m not in pain, the pain doesn’t exist if I ignore it… who am I kidding?
Raina: Duty, duty, honor, sparrow, is my sword sharp enough, more duty, did that shadow move?
Hunter: Herbs, monsters, furs, promises, promises, people suck, where the hells does all the candy go?
Hugh: I hate you and I hate you, you’re funny, need to find more stories, that’s a pretty flower, I think mom had one like it. I wonder what my sisters are up to.
Aaron: Glory, honor, revenge, get them out alive, I did not sign up for this load of horse manure.

Character Sheets and character creation →
Tumblr media
When creating a character, there’s a lot of questions you ask yourself. Whether it’s an original character or one you’ve been playing for a long time, using a character sheet to get to know your character better can always be a nice idea. With it’s help, you’ll be able to think about things you didn’t necesarily thought about, and ask some important questions to yourself that might activate your character’s voice, or help you to get your muse back with them. Everyone has their favorite character sheets, some people prefer to have a lot of questions, some others like it a bit more vague, so here’s a masterlist of the character sheets I found on various websites and found quite interesting, plus some other things that could be used to help you see, for example, how other character view yours.
Blank Character Sheet (+370 Questions)
Abridged Character Sheet (100 Questions)
Big-Ass Character Sheet
Character Creation Form
Character Sheet by Jody Hedlund
Creating a character Bio Sheet
Character Analysis Worksheet
100 Character Development questions for writers
Create a Character Profile
Character Development Worksheet
Original Character Bio-Sheet
Character Chart for Fiction Writers
A Character Chart By Charlotte Dillon
Fiction Writer’s Character Chart
Detailed Character Sheet
Character Sheet Template
Character Twenty-Question Worksheet
In-Depth Character Sheet
Character Worksheet
Character Interview Sheet (First Person)
Background Questionnaire (First Person)
Characters Perceptions (How do other people perceive your character?)
With these sheets, you could also try to find your character’s Jung and Enneagram Type or use the Moral Alignment tool. All of these things can be really useful to get a better grip on a character.
Then, if you’re trying to create a character, and do not have many ideas, or get stuck, I’d suggest for you to roam around TVTropes, which gives you a lot of tropes used for character creation. Maybe you could try to mix a few of these and create an original character?
Or, if you’re a skillful writer and know how to make your character different from another, make a list of characters in fiction you happen to find interesting and why. Try to keep it short. Then, maybe, try to mix and match things from two or three characters, take a character and change their backstory, to see what would change. Play with them to inspire yourself and create something new, original and truly yours.
Oh, and here’s a little guide to Mary-Sues and OCs, just in case you want to make sure your character isn’t going to become a Mary-Sue or a Gary-Stu
And last but not least, this article about building fictional character definitely seemed interesting to me, and is full of many other links that could guide you during the creating of your character and help you file one of these sheets.

I typically think of the major plot points in their story. Personality usually comes from experience, so I make my characters similarly. For example, a supervillain who has suffered because of a corrupt system would be very cynical, and someone who wants to be noticed would be very flashy (both of these apply to Mirror, from Masks in case you were wondering).
Similarly, I sometimes think of what needs to happen for the plot. Actions stem from personality, so they would react a certain way because of their personality.
For the most part, I decide their roles in the plot then get the personalities from there.
Dear Fellow Writers Discussion: Character Building. How do you make up people, and how often do they laugh at you later?
Okay, I probably have more fun naming these discussions than I should lol. But, yeah, today I decided to talk about character building, because I received an interesting STS ask from @fields-of-ink, and then an interesting reply to it by @writeblrfantasy, regarding the subject, and it really made me start to think more about the subject.
So, I thought I’d pose the question to the rest of my fellow writers. How do you go about coming up with your characters? What’s the process? How much detail you normally go into during the planning stages? And how different do your characters normally wind up when you start writing them?
As per tradition, I shall start.
I don’t go into a ton of detail when building a character at first, as I discover most of their personality and stuff while I go. I tried doing the character sheets/figuring out every little detail before touching my story methods, and they didn’t work out for me. Maybe it’s because I have a pretty chaotic and messy writing method.
Sometimes I start with a concept, a basic personality, some backstory, and maybe an idea of what they look like. Then I’ll flesh that out a little bit more until I have motivations, a few quirks, an idea of how they view things, and have settled on their role in the story.
If I have more than one character planned out, I’ll connect them somehow. Like A and B are best friends, C is A’s cousin and finds B annoying, D and C have similar goals and that will lead to them meeting, E hates A’s guts because of something that happened when they were teenagers, ect. I find that it helps me ground the characters in the story, build up backgrounds/future plot points, and creates dynamics.
Sometimes I don’t even have that much and have to reverse engineer a character. I’ll have a role I need played and have to start with motivations and then work backwards until I have a concept and can flesh that out more.
Then, I have random characters that just appear out of no where and I’ll have to adjust my plans to account for them. I may need to take some time to flesh these ones out more, particularly their motivations.
As for how often they turn out differently than I planned, it really isn’t an uncommon occurrence. Most of my characters are at least a little different than I originally planned them, which is part of why I write the way I do. It let’s me be flexible with sudden changes to backstories, secret motivations, unexpected personality differences, ect.
But what about all of you?

Draconic Magic
Draconic magic is all magic that stems from a dragon. There are roughly five types of magic users: dragons (two subcategories), riders (kind of two subcategories), and marked. A very rare form of draconic magic is the magic of a half-dragon, the child of a dragon and an elf. Because so few of these hybrids have ever existed (only two), little is known about their power. Some suspect that their powers are greater than their parents'.
Anorovo
An anorovo is a dragon. They are the most powerful magic users aside from the Dragon Queen and the Dark Goddess. A dragon's magic primarily depends on their color (more on this in another post to come). In addition to their natural affinity which corresponds to their coloration, a dragon can also use magic in other ways. The most notable example is entering a magical hibernation as well as power transfers.
While they have the most magical energy, as with other magical creatures, a physically weak dragon has weakened magical abilities and vice versa.
Uruna
An uruna is a dragon with a rider. They are rendered nearly powerless after the dragon-rider bonding spell. While most of their power regenerates over time, an uruna is weaker than a wild dragon. The uruna cannot reach their full potential unless their rider dies as some of their power now resides in the rider.
Marada
A marada is a dragon rider. Through the bonding spell, they are given a mental link to their dragon as well as a weakened version of their dragon's magical abilities. It is impossible for someone to be bonded to multiple dragons at once.
Maruna
A maruna is a marada whose dragon has died. They are left with very weak draconic magic, typically weaker than that of a normal marada. It is possible for a maruna to bond to another dragon. In such a case, the new dragon's power would not affect the strength of the marada's previous abilities unless the dragon is of the same color, in which case the marada's power would be greater than normal.
Marked
Marked, which has no term in Dragon Tongue (making a language is hard, okay?), is a human or elf that has been granted magic by a dragon. They have weak abilities, comparable to that of a maruna. Often, their power extends little beyond immunity to the dragon's affinity or slight control over said affinity.
