i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.

What do you like best about it? The problem solving. Digging into a complicated problem and coming out with a solution always feels good

What's your least favourite part? The long days when things are going wrong

How long have you been in your current role? With this client, almost 3 years, but I've been doing this same job at different places for almost 25 years now

What was your first job? Peer counsellor

Which was the longest and how long was it? I stayed with one place for 8 years. But I should clarify that I'm a consultant these days, so staying at one place for long is rare!

How about the shortest? Just over a year

In an ideal word, where the salary, for instance, isn't a factor, what would be your favourite job? Cake taste tester

What's one "abstract" thing you learned at work from your manager or colleagues that you really believe in? That a ridiculously large number of reported bugs turn out to be PEBKAC.
