Practicum Week 4 (Jan 25-31) "And We're Live"
Well, the final week meant finally getting the show up and running.
The plan from the beginning was to keep the show "private" to a certain degree, essentially meaning it wouldn't go on major streaming platforms but would go to a place where those who need it can get to it.
So this week was a mix of editing the audio, arranging and finally publishing the mix. As well as getting the website officially published.
Nevertheless, episode one is done and we have a nice little nest egg set up so future episodes can be made passively and easily going forwards.
Well, with the practicum over and the last few reports needing to be filled, the onus is back on me to decide my future. I think I'm going to keep making stuff though. This was fun. and I want to keep doing it.
Keep you posted, but for now; practicum complete!

Practicum Week 3 (Jan 18-24) Hit REC
Hello Everybody!
Wow, I'm really enjoying this blog posting system. It's a cool way to show what I've been getting up to. I'll probably keep doing this after my practicum to show the work I'm doing on all my projects as an independent content creator. But that's not what you're here for, you're hear for what I've been up to this week!
This Week in Podcast Producing
We're at a point where planning and production is done at the same time in my opinion. I spent the Sunday setting up some appointments to get some material. My first one was with the Bishop. Before going into the interview I thought in my mind: "Well, I'm planning for the podcast to be about 20-30,minutes long with a few different segments. So this interview should be about 10-15 minutes of material." Little did I know the interview alone would be 30+ minutes long.
This was a pleasant surprise as it means I can do several short episodes more frequently if this is the amount of content I could get in a day. Sure, weekly releases mean more work, but it should be manageable with the structure I'm building for it.
Music Production?
Going back to my audio roots here! I figured I could use royalty free music for the podcast and knew some legitimate sources for some as producing a whole soundtrack for the podcast would take a lot of time. But I wanted to at the very least create an intro theme. So here's the rough demo for the intro theme for all your enjoyment:
I've been cracking on a lot of stuff and next week I'll have a lot more to share. May even do daily updates depending on how things go.
See you later!

Practicum Week 2 (Jan 11-17) Hard Drives, Goal Setting & Coaching
Hey everyone! Sorry this update is coming 3 days late. It's been a little crazy.
Side story before we dive into the meat & potatoes that was the week. At the beginning of the year, my main external hard drive failed on me. I've spent the last few weeks trying to find a way to get it working with no success. This drive had 7 years worth of data on it including a lot of school files I would have liked for this practicum, so it's not great that it's stopped working on me. I'm sending it for data recovery but it's going to cost a pretty penny. Hopefully something comes from it.
Now, onto what this week has been like.
You know newton's law of motion how an object won't move unless acted upon? That's been on my mind a lot as someone who is greatly self-directed. Realizing the importance of goal setting and all that comes with it was a big lesson for me this week. Without deadlines, objectives and points I need to reach I don't go anywhere. I learned that the most important part of the preparation stage is setting goals and creating timelines. Otherwise everything is just a hypothetical and doesn't go anywhere.
So with that in mind, here are my goals & deadlines:
Podcast Introductory Video/Clip (Jan 24th)
Episode 1 Material Gathered (Jan 24th)
Episode 1 Produced & Mixed (Jan 25th)
It'll be a busy week. But I have some interviews set up and I've gathered some material already. I've got the missionaries doing bits in the podcast so I had to do some vocal coaching. It was a really fun experience! Though we'll most likely need to do some retakes... We'll see.
That's all for now! See you Friday!

Practicum Week 1 (Jan 6-10): King of the Eleventh Hour
Hello Everyone! Week one down already? Wow. Well, let me tell you what I've been up to.
Last week I was approached at church to help produce a podcast for my ward. I obviously said yes, but of course I didn't realize until a few hours later how this would fulfil my practicum requirements. It wasn't until Monday or Tuesday just how much of the skills I've learned I'd be applying.
The only instruction I was given on what the podcast was to look like was to "connect other members of our ward and get to know our church community. Other than that, you have free reign on what it can look like". It felt like a dream come true! Meanwhile I came to realize the work that needed to be done:
Writing scripts
Program Formatting
Distribution
Audio recording & editing
Client communications
Voicing
The list goes on. While it may seem like a lot, I'm not intimidated by the amount of work that is required of me. I've started building a website where people can listen to the podcast and I'm preparing programming. While there's still much to be done, I hope to have the first episode prepared by next week. After that, it becomes a question of how frequently I can keep episodes coming. Weekly? Bi-Weekly? Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Catch you all next week!
