using Line for the first time in his life [NJTW S1 E4]
watch the crew arrive in china and make final preparations, before they have to run in 40 degree heat....please enjoy! ♡
this episode is only 3 minutes long lol thank god! it was nice to finish working on it all in one day˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶
정든 - beloved
집사람 - wife (other words for wife are 아내, 와이프)
개시 - start, launch
만리장성 - The Great Wall of China (the name alludes to it great size, saying it's 10.000 (만) lis long)
코를 후비다 (코 후비기) - to pick one's nose (can also be used with "ear" and with a synonym verb, so another possible variant is 귀를 우비다)
당시 - then, at that time (sometimes used with the meaning "during")
해석 (분석) - interpretation, analysis
성화 - pestering, (성화를 부리다 - to pester)
깔다 - to lay out, to spread out
차근차근 - slowly and calmly, step by step, gradually
입성 - triumphant entry (not used that often)
슬슬 - a little bit, softly, gently
쇳덩이 - a lump of metal, (쇠 means metal, metallic)
발상 - way of thinking, idea
저마다 - each, own
다가오다 - to approach, draw near
(words in purple are given in their pure form, how they were said/written in the episode, I might also be providing the full form, a form that's used more often etc.)
I made this note a few months ago when initially rewatching this season: (while watching these few episodes I genuinely had so much fun!! I’ve only watched season 1 once, so this is my first time rewatching it, and man does it feel nice to not only be able to understand most of it (a huge upgrade since last time lol), but also have it feel like a new show since I don’t remember this season at all!! all in all, I’m having so much fun doing this c:)

one dragonball hater vs three fans [NJTW S1 E3]
in this episode Hodong is EXPOSED for his non-existent knowledge of Dragon Ball. Also he protests about the entire concept of using dragon balls lol. please enjoy! ♡‧₊˚
공중파 - public TV network, (airwaves)
거치다 - pass, go through (usually a period or some circumstances)
목적지 - destinatination
산만하다 (산만한) - distracted, unfocused, vague
초딩 - a slang word kinda, meaning "an elementary school kid", (used a lot jokingly, to call someone or their preferences childish, meaning is light-hearted and not offensive)
비글 - someone, who has a personality, similar to a beagle! this person is playful and kind (inspired by this word I'm actually working on a whole post about different dog breed personality types, find it here)
도저히 - possibly, completely (used a lot just for enhancing the existing meaning)
진도 - progress (usually used in phrases where the word progress is implied and not translated directly, like "it's not going well", "it's coming along nicely"),
자료화면 (자료 화면) - data screen
대체하다 - to substitute
…나라 - used for term “dynasty”, so Han Dynasty -> 한나라
화제 - topic (화제가 되다 - to become the talk of the town)
두고 오다 - to leave behind (the structure of this is really fun, the direct meaning is "put" + "come", so instead of saying you forgot something, you divide it into two actions, first putting it somewhere and then arriving without it)
판씩 - 판 seems to be a counter word like 개, 마리, 명 etc, meaning "round"/"edition"; the grammar 씩 means "each"
최종 - final, the last (more about particle 최 here)
난생처 (난생 처음) - for the first time in life
오로지 - only, nothing but (seems to be similar in use to 일뿐)
벼락치기 - hasty preparation, (used a lot with studying & exams , has a slightly different translation of cramming)
멀쩡하다 - unaffected, intact, in perfect shape
혼동 - confusion, (used in forms 혼동이 오다, 혼동에 빠져 있다)
쏟아내다 (쏟아낼 예정) - pour out, burst, spill out (grammar ㄹ 예정 means something is expected)
오덕 & 덕후 - nerd, (actually comes from Korean spelling of "otaku")
근사하다 - great, wonderful
신묘한 - mysterious, magical (this went on to be a name for the njtw's mascot♥️)
귀하다 (귀한) - precious, priceless
구슬 - bead, ball (something with a round shape)
성구 - (not important at all, so feel free to skip! translated to "prayer, phrase" but I'm still confused as to why it was used with the description of dragonballs...)
소원을 들어주다 - to grant a wish
파괴되다 - be destroyed
흔한 - commonplace, familiar
인증 - verification, conformation
당췌 - (my best guess is that it's a form of 도대체, "exactly/really" with sub-meaning "even", eg "도대체 뭐 하는거야?", "what exactly are you doing?")
물러가다 - leave (but fancy), retire from (in terms of leaving a place)
어그로 - "agro" or agression, (also seems to be used as a slang for interntet trolls? yk cause of "orge")
반발하다 - oppose, resist
악당 - villain
정모 - a regular get-together (not used that often it seems)
소외감 - feeling of alienation, being left out
진행하다 - to lead (especially a tv show, like a host does) (also to progress, to head to)
려고 들다 (하려들어) - an upgraded version of a grammar 려고 하다, where the user is even more determined to do something, watch the explanation here (in part 려고 the syllable 고 sometimes can be omitted)
협상능력 - negotiation ability
봉쇄 - blockade
당하다 - grammar that means, that someone suffered because of someone else, eg "이혼했다" - "I divorced" VS "이혼 당했다" - "I suffered a divorce" (meaning that the speaker didn't want this to happen)
본사 - headquarters
나서다 - interfere, set out, go with a purpose
힘 합치다 - cooperate, work together (literally "to put strength together")

상.하 - top and bottom
내복 - underclothes
(words in purple are given in their pure form, how they were said/written in the episode, I might also be providing the full form, a form that's used more often etc.)

why njtw-notes?
hey!♡ in this post I wanted to outline the purpose of this blog, and how it can be used by both me and you!
﹖why njtw-notes? with njtw being my favorite variety show, I've watched it countless times, and picked up a lot of words and phrases, that helped me with learning korean! so I've decided, that I want to go the extra mile, to not leave a stone unturned and try to learn everyting unknown from this show, all the words I was too lazy to look up when I was watching lol; but also I wanted to make a place where if you're also watching the show & learning korean, you have a space where each episode's vocab is broken down and explained!
﹖ why so much effort for a variety show? in my exprerience, variety shows have been one of the best ways to learn and remember new words, its always like a random chance, you might get an everyday word, that just will be easier to remember, or a completelly out-of-pocket word, that you won't hear in your daily life or study curriculum
﹖ how does everyting work? if you have a corresponding post opened while watching an episode, you will be able to have most of the words explanations visible and ready to read! also good for if you've watched the show before and want to refresh your memory, or if you're picking up a new show to better your korean!
.𖥔 ݁ ˖ what kind of posts can I find here?˖ ݁݁ 𖥔.
☆ long-format vocab posts - like most of the currently existing posts, these are basically as the name of the blog suggests lol all of the notes I'm taking while rewatching the episodes, all of the new words & expressions that are interesting to me;
☆ short-format vocab posts - however, I believe that not every single person is interested in all the little tiny details, so these posts will feature a top-10 selection of the most useful words/expressions from the episode! (level varying from beginner-intermediate)
☆ konglish posts - these will feature all the konglish words used; because these are way easier to remember and there's not so many, words from multiple season could be combined in one post!
☆ 사자성어 & 속담 posts - special posts for four-syllable idioms and proverbs
☆ other phrases and words posts - a post here and there about an episode of a different show, like I've done for HYBE x Game Caterers (also produced by Na PD so it counts lol), or about the use of 비글, or "beagle" and other dog breeds as a personality type
.𖥔 ݁ ˖ can I..........˖ ݁݁ 𖥔.
......ask questions about a specific word/grammar? - yes, of course! please include all the relevant info (like season, episode, time stamp etc) and I'll try my best to explain it!
......use the 사자성어 and 속담 lists for preparing for TOPIK? - yes, that's exactly why I'm doing it too! the goal is to at least be familiar with as many as possible, so this is a good way to do this!
......request a different show/episode breakdown? - if the show/episode is related to njtw and its cast, then I will probably get to it and it will be covered in the future, so absolutely yes! however for other shows it might be not always possible :( someone stop me before i make running-man-notes too lol
✖ please do not.... ✖
.......reuse for personal or commercial profit - this includes posting a screenshot and claiming creation of it or using all the matherial to make a study course etc. while creating these posts is fun, it's also hard work with all the compiling, rewatching and researching, so for someone else to just take it and run with it would be unfair. BTW just sharing / reposting is absolutely fine! just if not done maliciously c:
☆ ending thoughts ☾
this blog has been an idea of mine for a few years now, and I'm so happy that I finally get to do it! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! ♡
also with doing these few posts I'm realizing this will probably take months if not years so....it's gonna be a long ride!! :D
any updates to this post will be linked here
thank you for reading and being here! here's to all the seasons we have ahead of ourselves <3

회식 adventures [NJTW S1 E2]
in this episode the cast and the crew have a get-together before flying off to China, where the concept and the characters are being explained. also, Jiwon somehow convinces everyone that it's hot at the top of a mountain because it's closer to the sun. enjoy! ・ᴗ・ᑉ³♡‧₊˚
을 겸 - to do one thing, since you're already here (a very fun grammar, that basically allows you to mention 1 reason and imply there are more, but you don't have to list them, read more about it here and here, watch a video explanation here)

the start of it all.... [NJTW S1 E1]
ah, the first ever episode of my favourite variety show..... even with it being only 5-ish minutes long, still I found a lot of words to learn! please enjoy my word list for NJTW S1E1 and watch the episode itself here ! ♡ ˙ᵕ˙
꽃단장 하다 - dress up (this is used more for looking nice in casual clothes, sometimes can be used sarcastically)
망가지다 - be broken, be destroyed
도로변 - side of the road (could be sidewalk, but also looks to be the curb, or the part of the sidewalk where there are trees/flowers, not designated for walking)

갈기다, 갈겨 버리다 - beat, hit, strike (in this case it’s used with 버리다 [갈겨 버리다], the grammar 아/어 버리다 means to do something to the most extent, to completion, majority of the time has kinda a negative meaning, read more about it here and here, more examples here)
지구상 - planet Earth (looks to be used more in phrases like “life on earth”, “on the earth”, when talking about situations on Earth, kind of "the inside" sense, but the noun 지구 (Earth) is used more in the "outside" sense, in phrases like "save the Earth", or when other planets are also mentioned)

적응하다 - adapt to
