Tess Durbeyfield: Could my life get any worse?
Thomas Hardy: And I took that as a challenge
#tess of the d'urbervilles#that’s how I felt throughout this whole book#this girl just can’t catch a break 😭#despite all this I gave the book 4 stars#a

I’m currently reading Tess of the D’ubervilles and I keep having to resist the urge to throw my Kindle across the room🫠.
#tess of the d'urbervilles#thomas hardy#I don’t dislike this book and it has its hooks in me now#but poor Tess cannot catch a break#And I think I know enough about the book to not expect a happy ending

Me reading Ella Minnow Pea in the beginning: Okay, they’ve definitely lost some letters, but I’m still able to fully understand everything.
Me towards the end: What…what word is that supposed to be?

I love Donna Tartt’s books(I really do), but there’s always been at least one moment during all her books when I think to myself “How are we not past this part yet?”
#donna tartt#her books are amazing btw#but there are times when I can really feel the length#part of it might have to do with the fact that her books only have a few chapters and each chapter is basically a mini novella

Is Donna Tartt working on a new book or do I have to keep using the personality I stole from her three current books for the rest of my life?

People need to talk more about how great Donna Tartt’s sense of humour is. I’m rereading The Little Friend and losing my mind at the parts where Harriet carves “I hate Edie” onto Edie’s wall, and calls Mrs Fountain an “old bitch,” and sits at the window watching the neighbours through the barrel of a gun… she’s iconic. Also the line where it’s said that Harriet never annoyed anyone until she learned how to talk 💀 It’s so dry. I love her (Donna and Harriet).

ETA: By controversial, it may make more sense to say “least well received”. On Goodreads it only has a 3.48 rating as opposed to The Secret History and the Goldfinch. It’s interesting, because I liked the Goldfinch, but I preferred TLF more. (TSH is my favorite though 😅)
The Little Friend Thoughts
It's interesting that The Little Friend by Donna Tartt seems to be so controversial(according to Goodreads anyway). I can understand why people may feel that way, but I personally really enjoyed the book.

I rewatched the movie recently and while it’s still not a good adaptation(or even really a good film lol)- I now knew what to expect and so it was easier to embrace the absurdity this time 🤷♀️
After watching Netflix’s Persuasion, I’m not sure if I trust them to adapt another Jane Austen novel :/

I catch a glimpse of myself on the television screen on the wall that’s airing my arrival live and feel gratified that I appear almost bored. Peeta Mellark, on the other hand, has obviously been crying and interestingly enough does not seem to be trying to cover it up. I immediately wonder if this will be his strategy in the Games. To appear weak and frightened, to reassure the other tributes that he is no competition at all, and then come out fighting. - "You know what my mother said to me when she came to say good-bye, as if to cheer me up, she says maybe District Twelve will finally have a winner. Then I realized, she didn’t mean me, she meant you!” bursts out Peeta. “Oh, she meant you,” I say with a wave of dismissal. “She said, ‘She’s a survivor, that one.’ She is,” says Peeta.
