Rationale
The term non-human could be labelled as something as simple as “anything that isn’t a human.” This idea, however, has been in many modern contexts been rethought into something that may not be human but in some way mirrors the human for example animals and technology.
Inspired by the relationship between the human and non-human, the work questions this relationship, explores consumerism, materiality and how this, in turn, shapes our natural world. especially in relation to how we as humans “sell” the natural environment as an extension of ourselves.
There is something about the plastic glad wrap that resonates with the materialistic world, and body modification. Plastic is a non human material created by humans to encase the natural products; in this case meat. The human body being placed and packaged into a materialistic environment, raw meets plastic. I believe the work places both subjects the meat and a human in the same category of raw meat, by stripping the identity of the body in the photos, reducing them to their natural form in the now modified environment.
I enjoy the rawness of the photos therefore did not want to edit them too much they were already so powerful. I was originally going to play with the images by transferring them onto plastic however i like the clarity of the photographs themselves. I chose to encase the works in perspex frames as they are photographs frozen in time and encased in a clear yet inescapable frame. The perspex is also enforcing the idea of plastic and human creation that now holds the natural. The combination of flesh and meat, creates these crisp but abstract-seeming works.
My initial ideas and thoughts came from the inspiration of artist 1“Lucie Stahl”l. Her work involves lots of layering of found objects including food, liquids and lots of interesting material to form beautiful layers of work. In particular i loved her work that were ink jet prints they are so powerful and crisp. This form of art inspired me to look into another form of photography (using a scanner) where i could achieve layering of objects and the human body. My test shots really surprised me as they turned out so well and in really great quality as i was using an at home scanner. I started off with just scans of the face and hands and then this lead me to incorporate meat as i thought it would look quite interesting and grotesque on the scanner.
I love the work of 2”Mattieu Bourel”, incorporating surreal collages and photographs of the human form and mostly faces. His works inspired the connection i wanted to create from the camera/scanner to the human as a lot of his works there is a sense of unawareness in the face which i believed i captured. It also inspired the sense of identity loss through almost masking the face and blindfolding the the eyes to strip all features that create ones identity. I chose to use meat as it is highly consumed good and has no identity when it is all chopped up and sold. I wanted to place the human in the same situation where they have been packaged up and sealed in plastic. The plastic representing the materialism and consumable aspect to the non human, human creation. Humans are nothing but a product of their own environment.

Ongoing experimentation WITH MEATTT On the weekend I got to work with real meat on my scanner. These are just a couple of shots I took and have edited, I really like the way the photos came out even though it was hard to tell what you were going to get due to lack of control in seeing what is on the scanner. There is something about the plastic glad wrap that resonates with the materialistic world, and body modification. The human body being placed and packaged into a materialistic environment, raw meets plastic. I believe the work places both subjects the meat and a human in the same subcategory of raw meat, by stripping the identity of the body in the photos, reducing them to their natural form in the now modified environment.

Experiment 1 So for my first experiment I wanted to test out the scanner on my printer to see the quality I would get for my photos, these photos are dpi 400 and show great quality however I am able to go up to 1,200 so I will definitely try out the highest dpi to see the quality I can get. I loved how these turned out, especially with the layer of cling wrap I thought it added a lot more to the photo and I love the reflections of light on the cling wrap. I edited the last photo to amp up the contrast and quality of the photo which was well achieved. I am doing the relationship between humans and their environment/ecology and I wanted to slightly tweak the subject matter of the task from task 1 which focused on technology and modification of the body, where for task 2 I want to run on the lines of self modification, consumerism and materialism among the environment. To force this idea I want to incorporate meat, as it is placing the consumerist in the spot of the animal trapped, rapped and transformed. I want the photos to be quite gruesome and cause a reaction that is why I am planning to use organs and gross parts of meat on the human body.

Glitch x Human Relation to Ecology - SCULPTED EDITION
Using a rock we found as the base, and then covering that rock anddddd- well, making a thing or 8
Just a few angles:
We figured our accidental contrast between the really smoothened forms and more rough/rugged/scaly surfaces was a nice place to start off with our inconsistencies, which were then emphasised by the imprints left by the wire - which to us seemed somewhat reminiscent of DNA structures/potentially even a way of representing synapses. Linking that with the organic forms next to it (and then creating what could most closely be compared to a horse head) formed the link between ecology and human aspects, getting irregular with whatever this landscape was supposed to be. We were definitely very certain of everything we were doing, as you can tell

Assessment 2 Inspiration -
Artists like Milena Soporowska have used a printer scanner to produce almost haunting photos of the body. I like the effect the scanner has given these photographs and i believe it would work well with my concept of the human and its environment. My first experiment will look into taking some shots on the scanner to see where i want to take my ideas.
