The chimes and clicking from the floor had you glancing over towards the floor. Levi had passed another level in his game and you have to hold back a sigh of frustration.
Not towards him, though. At yourself. You'd been stuck on this math question for over half an hour now and nowhere near finishing. The promise you'd made to Levi was hanging like cloud over your shoulders now, reminding you that you should've done this yesterday. You should've powered through the rest of your coursework so you could be playing alongside Levi like you'd been putting off for weeks now and now he was probably over the idea entirely and was going to lea-
"MC?"
Levi was sitting himself down next to you on your bed, much closer than he'd ever been and that stopped your swirling thoughts. His brow was worried, scanning your face as he asked, "I was trying to ask if I was bothering you but..."
His gaze made you suddenly aware of your entire self and the warmth on your own face. Oh, your cheeks were wet.
A cold hand was on your burning cheeks, wiping away the tears quickly.
"Hey, want some help?" Levi asked with a grin as though he didn't see your tears at all and that helped. Your cheeks were still burning but you nodded.
"Yeah, I don't get this one," you managed to say despite your surprisingly croaky throat.
"Lemme see." He took your textbook from your hands and hummed, reading over the one you pointed out in quiet thought.
It gave you a minute to calm down, feeling his warm should against yours.
"Oof, yeah, no wonder you've been stuck on this one." With a smirk, he snatched your pencil from your hand and twirled it between his fingers with flourish. "No fear, Player Two. I'm more than prepared to teach you the ways of the mathematics master."
And he did. Turned out he was very good at explaining his method, and it made so much sense. He beamed when you solved the next one on your own, and within a handful of minutes, you were done.
You both even managed to get in some game time before you stafted to drift off. Your eyes sank closed, sounds of Levi clicking away at his game right next to you dimming as he turned down the volume so you could sleep. He smiled fondly as your head found its way to his shoulder and hoped you'd fall asleep next to him more often.

Ugh, it was too hot. The world outside the covers was too hot though. Why did you have to get sick now? Why couldn't it have been tomorrow, after Beel's big game? You'd been so excited to watch him destroy the other team like he'd promised. The sweater he'd gotten you to keep you warm on the benches was laying on your desk, mocking you.
You hoped it was going well. And if it wasn't, you knew Beel would still be giving it his all. He was amazing at rallying the team with his determination and positivity in the face of adversity. It was one of the things you loved about him.
Wow, you missed him already. He'd squeezed your hand goodbye only an hour ago. Or maybe two. Time was getting weird now. All you could do was shiver and hold back tears. The only silver lining was your imagination was running wild. Your mind was already imagining your best friend's hand on your forehead, sweeping back your hair. The soft, almost romantic graze of a finger against your cheek felt so vividly real. It was almost like Beel was really there, sneaking under the covers with you and holding you in his perfect arms as you mumbled your way to sleep.
And you didn't notice Beel sniffling a day or two later. But you did notice the way he'd blush when your eyes met and smile at you just a bit.

You were both laughing over a joke Belphie cracked about Devildom housing prices. Beel was about to go into his next deadlift set but he was weak from laughing, crouched over the bar.
"As if we could even afford a house in this economy in the first place. The bank wouldn't even approve us for a mortgage," you finally manage to say, wiping a tear from your eye. It was as Beel was standing back up properly, and you were about to head for the water fountain when Belphie said something that made time slow.
"Well, hey, if you both get married, you'd for sure be approved. Solution: marriage of convenience." Belphie snickered.
It would be a lie to say you hadn't thought about that. After the long fight with your own feelings, you were losing the battle to your growing crush on the gentle giant. The same man who froze for just a second. Just like you did. Your eyes met for a split second.
And then your comedy coping skills kicked in.
"Hahaha, yeah, right, I want a marriage with love," was your stilted response between forced laughs, and you quickly scurried away to get water.
"You don't need love for marital benefits," Belphie called after you but there was no one to hear him.
Beel was lost in thought cheeks flushed and eyes trained on where you'd been. With a shiver, he pushed down the red climbing up his cheeks and got back to his workout.
Meanwhile, your bottle was overflowing as you wondered if that had been too forward.
