i don't think i've made it any secret that eugene and sunny are my favourites from this game and like. i Do really love their individual characters obviously but honestly thinking about their dynamic (or at least. potential one pre-sunshine update bc there wasn't thaaat much) made me like them more tbh?

like. i think it's very interesting how landkeepers in general and eugene's feelings of emptiness and needing a purpose are meant to parallel one another, and the sunshine update pretty much indirectly confirmed that with the lore regarding landkeepers, to me at least. eugene's whole arc of finding purpose in creating the community garden, by putting good in the world instead of trying to force himself to fit a hero role placed upon himself by his own standards. landkeepers being ordinary people turned into mammon's vessels, their misery being taken advantage of and made only to serve one purpose. and then there's sunny, being someone who was forced into the role of being mammon's pawn, to be someone who someone else wanted her to be.

even if the circumstances are different, i think it's definitely worth looking into the fact that they both are forced to play roles that aren't them - and how they eventually grow past that with help, with eugene eventually opening up to the player leading up to the garden scene, and sunny becoming more confident in being sunny. and i don't know, it's just...very interesting to me that they have things in common there, and it's something that i think about even more now that sunny's a partner. because with her added dialogue, i don't think it's far-fetched to say that it's implied that she's the closest with kayleigh and eugene? after all, her 5 hearts cutscene directly names them, and she even has exclusive dialogue if you've romanced either of them. which...honestly makes sense, considering kayleigh and eugene are always in the cutscenes for sunny's initial quest, while any other partner you might bring is optional. and sunny's dialogue if you romance eugene, it's...actually pretty interesting to me?

for those who haven't seen it, this is it:

idk, it made me think a lot since...sunny directly calls attention to his struggles. but in the kayleigh romance exclusive dialogue, she doesn't - she comments on how she's happy that two of her friends are close, and mentions how having a bond like that sounds nice. but with eugene, she brings up his struggles, even if not naming them.

which i think about a lot, considering...how closely guarded eugene seems to be regarding those. it takes until his quest is complete for those insecurities to come to light, and for most, that fight is typically one of the last archangels you'll fight (...assuming you're playing the game normally. i did not play this game normally bc mammon was the 3rd archangel i fought iirc). it takes an archangel for him to finally let his guard down enough and talk about his insecurities, even if only for a little. and while yeah, i'm sure sunny might also just be observant about those sort of things, i think it...also kind of indirectly shows that there's definitely some level of trust that he's probably let his guard down around her enough to at least give her some sort of hint about that? if not just briefly talking about it with her.

and by that alone it's enough for me to think, "oh, they're probably close in some way then", but it makes me think more when it comes down to their history with one another while on new wirral. because until sunny stumbled into the cafe and got a makeover, they were pretty much enemies until then. which makes the potential dynamic between them very interesting to me, since there's more of a history there that's more personal - especially with sunny being confirmed to be one of the landkeepers eugene confronts in the beginning cutscene, and with landkeepers paralleling what eugene thinks about himself, with him being a hollow person and all. so their cafe interaction makes me think a lot about sunny's lines during it, particularly when she brings up how she's glad that they're friends now.

this isn't even getting into their one date cutscene, because there's...definitely a bit i can pull from with that too. or at least stuff i can pick out and make educated guesses on. even though i generally don't look at it considering i romance eugene on almost all of my saves lol

...but can i just say right off the bat that the fact that eugene probably was the one to ask her out on the date in the first place is crazy to me bc like. looks at him. looks at his romance route. i struggle to believe that /hj

that aside, i think the fact that they can go on a date if you don't romance eugene kind of...says something in of itself about the fact that they're close? idk. i know you don't need to be close in order to go on a date with someone, but i feel like with how eugene acts with romance in general (just. very nervous about it) and that sunny does outright call them friends, i don't think it's unreasonable to guess that they're pretty friendly with one another? also when considering that sunny did say she enjoyed the date, even if the outcome was a "i don't think i'm currently ready for this" thing. like i think with knowing what was given with eugene's romance route and the fact that sunny did agree in the first place, i want to assume that they're. definitely close to some degree by that point

all of this is to say, i really do like what's presented in-game with eugene and sunny's relationship and thinking about it more in-depth with the scenes given. there's something very interesting to me about exploring their relationship given their similarities and their history together, so i think i'm always gonna gravitate towards writing about them in my one-shots no matter what because of that, lol (...you can tell bc i think it's. quite literally my own fault that the eugene & sunny tag on ao3 is canonized now. bc i keep writing about them. the power of autism i guess). something about how they both were or felt empty, needed some form of purpose in their lives and was given that through the landkeepers in their own ways, but grew as people once they were given the chance to properly break away from that mold that was presented as the only option for themselves (or at least, with how eugene seemed to view his vigilante act with the landkeepers while he was stuck on new wirral).

i wanted to yap about these two, since. i don't see a lot of stuff about these two specifically that isn't from me yelling about them, lmao (wonderful reminder of my wof dragonslayer days, really /hj). and when i do see the rare thing it's usually about the date scene or shipping. which i personally don't care much for even if romantic sunny/eugene has grown on me a little bit (bc sunny and eugene will always be queerplatonic to me always and forever sorry). but also i just generally like seeing stuff about these two so i guess that doesn't matter too much atp lol

The manga is like the best to exist! I read a few Zelda mangas but Four Swords is Four Swords and it lives rent free in my head for months now. I heard ppl who were into if for years now and it's pretty brainrotting. What's really fun about it (at least for me) is that it's completely off game so it's pure chaos and creative work. Even the characters themselves are like technically made up but not really :)

We have Green who's pretty much underrated and I don't understand why. He's also silly and he's like the leader :D Again, he's pretty forgotten and idk why. I made a wallpaper for him and i even have a tag for his appreciation cuz he deserves it :D 💚 I feel bad for ppl that have him as a fave bcuz there's definitely a criminally low amount of fanart for him. I love to hc that he's the one that looks up to their father the most and when he grows up that he resembles his father more than the rest of the colors. There's kinda no root to these hcs but I just like to think that way idk. Btw he's my second fave :)

Then there's Red the not so innocent kitty :3 ❤ He's like the cutest to ever be. And he's canonically an arsonist XD (jk... Or am I >:]) He's like the happiness of the group but what i don't like is that the fandom sometimes treats him like he's really a child and some say that he's too childish, but now that would go into theorizing XD But a bit of contrast for that i dedicated the 3rd chapter of The Spirit of Wisdom for him in which i made him be a bIt courageous and act more mature and clever (even tho he's definitely gonna mess everything up XD) I also like to hc that he's the shortest and that he has very fluffy hair :)

Then the feral creature Blue! He's that type of person that tries to prove that they're strong and all that but end up being the funniest creature in Hyrule XD He gets angy really quickly but I laugh everytime when I see that :) (except one time which is a long story) Also facts here he has canines and a secret sixth sense which I still have to theorize over to see if it's canon or not or whatever. And im preeeetty sure that he's jealous of seeing Erune talk to the Links bcuz that's how it seemed in that one scene. I like to hc that he leans a bit on brunette when he grows up and that he's the first who grows facial hair like a little beard :) Also, very important! HAMMMERRR!!!🔨🔨🔨

We have the menace of the manga, Shadow! He's like the definition of silliness and really mischievous. Also he's that villain who's not truly a villain. My older sibling loves him sm and we love to come up with hc for him and play around. He's also the first who I desinged of The Spirits of The Triforce :D (i definitely should work on the designs of the rest as well) Also ppl in the fandom like to play around with his skin tone and eye color a lot since I don't think we have much info about it in the manga so the fandom really plays around with it. Tbh my fave version is darker skin and res eyes (the one i gave him for TSoTT) but I also really love the blue eyes or the design my older sibling (@/blupeeblep) made for him which is golden eyes and black skin :D I love to hc that he lives and that he's NOT dead and that he has a lot of animalistic features if that isn't canon already XD

And last but not the least, VIIIIOOOOOO! UGHHH HE LIVES RENT FREE IN MY HEAD!! When I was reading the manga for the first time he was giving me such mood swings and even made me cry several times! I remember very well that i had to make breaks in reading to cry bcuz of what Vio does or says snksksksksksksk. Even nowadays i sometimes cry over things he did 😭 Like he's sksnksksksksk, idk how to describe him anymore. I love him sm i have like almost every panel of him in my gallery and I sqeak at every fanart of redesign of him i see. I have him on my wallpaper for my phone too 💜💜💜 I used to think that i don't love him that much but I recently gave up and admit that im fully obsessed over this man ughhhh. Literally like it's obvious and as long no one is being judgy im fine :) Idk like i think that i remember that my sister asked me what's so special about him and i dunno what to say 😭😭 HE JUST IS!! Hi anon!! I totally get where you're coming from. I never really thought too much about it and I don't know if I have a specific method, but here's what I would do, if I were you:

Don't be afraid to talk and reach out to people. It doesn't have to be sliding in their DMs, which I understand can be awkward if you don't know the person, but routinely commenting on their posts, their fanfic, their art, or reblogging their posts with nice and enthusiastic comments is a great way to make friends! I don't always have the time or the spoons to do that unfortunately, but I try to do it as much as I can. I really appreciate all the creators in fandom and I try to show that.

If you're a creator (but even if you aren't) don't be shy about posting your work and maybe tagging people in WIP memes or tag games or something like that. Not everyone responds, but I feel like tagging ppl sometimes opens the door for more communication, and if they tag you back you can just keep the conversation going.

When you see people reblog a prompt list or ask game, send them asks!!! Please, just send them an ask!!! This is actually a pet peeve of mine tbh, people reblogging an ask list or ask game from someone who obviously wants to get asks lol (why else would they rb it) without sending an ask first. I feel like it's basic fandom etiquette, but it's also a really nice gesture even if you don't know the person that well. Showing that you actively care about what someone has to say is the first step into getting to know them, I think, and it's also just very nice to be included.

Getting into a fandom discord or group chat isn't always easy or intuitive, but if you do find yourself in one, don't be afraid to talk!! I may or may not be suffering from "can't shut the hell up disease" LOL but I'll take any opportunity to talk about my faves that I can get 😅 It may feel like you don't have much to say at first, but sometimes just reacting to what others say and being generally nice and positive can be a good first step.

It can be tempting to lurk around and only look at what others say or post, or to read fics without leaving a comment, or to like art but not reblog it, but it does nothing for helping you meet people. Imo this is actually really pervasive and not good for fandom overall. To each their own, of course, I'm not going to tell anyone how they should engage in fandom, but my best and most lasting friendships were made because we started reading each other's fics for example, or complimenting each other's art, or they reached out to me because this or that meme made them think of me, or we tag each other in games and stuff, or we took part in fandom exchanges, etc etc. It might be hard at first if this isn't something that comes naturally to you, but I do think it's worth it if you want to be part of a community. And, like any community, fandom requires give-and-take to thrive.

TLDR: sometimes seeing ppl in an established fandom interact with each other and having friends can be nerve-wracking and you don't know where to start, but honestly fandom is all about engagement. Basically, talk to people! Compliment their art or their fic! Tag them in games! Send them asks! Be kind! That’s it 😊

gotta start first and foremost with the sparrow series by mary doria russell as my blog is basically just a shrine to it at this point. amazing book and definitely recommend it if you love found family, first contact, trauma, tragedy, and the abandonment of the faithful by g-d. huge massive trigger warning tho. everyone says the second book isn't as good as the first, but i completely disagree. i think they're bitg equally as good as each other; the second book just takes awhile to get to the most insanity inducing parts whereas the first one starts out strong with that and keeps going until the end of the story.

i would have more books to recommend, but i've only just started REALLY getting back into reading after several years of not reading as much due to a variety of reasons (mostly trauma and chronic and mental illness). that being said, i have an insane amount of films to give you to watch instead of books.

gotta recommend my all time fav film (or one of the two anyway), the fountain. most people...don't like this movie because they think it's hard to understand and doesn't make sense towards the end (i had to watch it several times to get it), but please please please watch it. it's a beautiful film both visually and plotwise as long as you give it a chance 💕

sound of my voice is softer in terms of scifi, but still definitely scifi. it's another film that lets you decide what to believe. it's also another film people tend not to like for whatever reason, but i think it's extremely well done and the ending is so 💕💕💕💕💕💕

cloud atlas. very much a story in the same vein as the fountain taking place over different timelines. another beautifully done story about how everything and everyone is connected throughout space and time. ofc my fav timelines are the ones with robert frobisher and sonmi-451. i do also recommend the book, but i liked the film better because of a few of the changes they made.

sunshine is one of my fav films ever and i've loved it since i was in high school and first saw it. it reminds me a lot of three body problem in the sense that antagonist (idk if i would exactly call him a villain even tbh) is using g-d as a reason for the things he's doing. there's a few deleted scenes i wish they'd kept in because it really emphasizes this, but even so, this film is gorgeous in so many ways.

i origins. if u can't tell already i'm a huge brit marling fan and i think this is one of her best stories. again: you get to choose what to believe and you really have to watch the whole film for the pay off, but it is so very much worth it. i think i've actually only ever watched this film once, tho idk why bc it's genuinely one of my favs.

looper is another film that idk why more people weren't into it. the setting is dystopian. i was trying to think of a way to explain it in a few short sentences like i have the rest of the films here, but it's one of those films also that i think going into it knowing nothing is better. the kid who plays the rainmaker is so fucking good too. he's not even 10, but he played that role perfectly.

elysium. EVERYONE KNOWS DISTRICT 9 BUT NO ONE KNOWS ELYSIUM. i stand by my opinion that this film would be infinitely better if diego luna were the main character instead of matt damon, but even so i really love this film. the score is gorgeous. also lmao we for real might be living in this universe soon if elon fixes up that space hotel he wants to do fucking rip

ender's game. the author is a homophobic and transphobic dickwad who actively gives his money to anti-lgbt organizations, so watch this for free if you can (and buy the books second hand), but i actually really enjoyed what they did with this film. a lot of people thought it was too rushed, but also like....ender's game is a very Dense book, so i understand why they did it the way they did it. also the score is amazing.

signs. another film involving g-d and religion seen through the lens of scifi and first contact. this film gets shit on a ton for reasons i do not know, but it's actually really well done. it scared the ever living shit out of me the first few times i saw it tho bc i did Not grow up watching horror.

another earth i did not like when i first saw it. i thought the whole thing was kind of pointless and didn't make very much sense, but the more i've thought about it since then, the more i've understood it. funnily enough, i never watched it a second time, but it's brit marling, so i probably will eventually. again: definitely recommend.

lucy. listen i know this has scarlett johansson in it and none of us like her, but this film is good despite her. i thought it was going to be dumb as hell when i first saw it, but i actually ended up liking it so much that it's heavily inspired the next novel i'm planning on writing (a scifi space opera about a girl becoming g-d).

origami. okay this one is difficult to find and you WILL have to buy it if you want to watch it (trust me: i have searched FAR and wide for this film in any other place and vimeo is the ONLY place i found it; it's only $5 to rent on there tho), but it's so worth it. it's worth it. it's one of my fav films and i watched it purely because of francois arnaud and i'm glad i did. this literally is his best work imo.

ink is my all time hands down favorite film. idk if you would even call it scifi, but i love it so much i just wanted to talk about it. it very obviously had zero budget, but they used what little money they had VERY wisely and the result was this beautiful film. the story makes me sob every single time. actually it's quite similar to origami, so if you like one, you'll probably like the other.

tron: legacy is another film that people shit on and idk why. it has The Best religious imagery. like how are you going to top one of the programs falling to their knees in prayer as flynn passes by????? the whole thing seems to be a jesus/judas metaphor anyway and i'm crazy for that shit. gotta mention the score as always because daft punk knocked it out of the park (people shit on the score too and i really don't get why).

thelma. i watched this one a whim with a friend and i cannot recommend it enough. i feel like it was kind of popular on here when it first came out bc it's a sapphic film, but it's also just very good in general. i've seen people get super upset about it also bc their interpretation makes it lesbophobic (which is crazy to me but whatever.

melancholia. i did Not like this movie for the longest time, but then i watched it recently and finally Got it. i guess you really do have to be a certain level of depressed to understand this film, so if you're insanely suicidal and can barely function like me, then i recommend it. you will probably get some catharsis out of it like i did. it is a very Strange film tho.

the creator came out at the end of last year and it was so good. definitely my fav film to come out in the last few years and involves g-d, religion, and AI. the score also in this is great (everybody say thank you hans zimmer. again.). the ending makes me sob so much.

castle rock season 1. technically a horror series, but this season is more scifi than horror, i think. everything really comes to a head in episode 9 iirc and that episode still makes me crazy when i think about it. i definitely need to do a rewatch.

firefly/serenity. you've probably heard this one recommended before, but there's a reason for that. it's really so good, but g-d and jesus hate me because it too was canceled before it could even finish ONE SEASON. thankfully there's a film that kind of ties everything together, but WE COULD'VE HAD SO MUCH MORE.

how many characters do you have in your inbox?

I'm sure you didn't expect a nice long response anon, but that's what you're getting.

Right now I have 50 asks in my inbox, including this one. The last time I completely emptied the inbox was on 5/14. Best case scenario, is that it will take about 2 hours for me to sort through and post the requests to the queue. Once I got over 100 asks in less than a 48 hour period, and straight up spent 4.5 hours sorting through them. Here's why it takes me so long.

I do a basic search to make sure the character in question isn't a minor, and to figure out what their actual name is. I cannot stress this enough, idk shit about 90% of the requests I get. I don't know who that character is. Any mistakes made with names or photos chosen aren't because I secretly hate you and that character, or because I'm being malicious. It's because I've got little to no way to know what's correct. I'm going off shit on wikis, and most of that content is written by a bot nowadays anyways.

For me, the ideal submission format is "[FULL CHARACTER NAME] from [FULL TITLE OF MEDIA]" and that's it. That way I can just copy/paste directly from the ask into google. I have not instituted this as a rule, simply because I can't get people to read what rules I do have in the first place. Idk how much more eye catching that posts needs to be. It's bold, in red, and pinned to the top of the blog. If I put in a requirement for formatting, it would disqualify most requests, and I don't want to do that.

Some people feel the need to editorialize in the request itself, which tbh I mostly ignore. I don't care why you submitted this character. Idk anything about this character. Do whatever. Live your best life.

A random character nickname + acronym for the title is also the worst. I can usually figure it out, but it takes longer. When I've still got 30+ requests to get through, that's frustrating. I think sometimes people will just put the acronym for a piece of media in out of habit, or because they see I've used an acronym at some point in the tagging system. Tumblr does recommend tags, and that's why I might use it. This means that, when an acronym pops up again in the ask, I still don't immediately recognize it until I can remember googling it two weeks ago the last time that piece of media came up.

When it comes to the age of characters, I'll be honest I have much less patience. Sometimes I will google "[CHARACTER NAME] age" and what comes up is a spirited reddit thread, where people are arguing about whether or not the character is 15 or 45. Or 16 or 1500. Or whether or not they count as a minor, if they're physically 13 but actually 120 years old. Or whatever. I just fucking delete those, I'm not dealing with that shit.

I also often have to search the blog or scroll the queue to see if I have done the request before. There's a few video games where I've gotten a bunch of requests, there's a shitton of characters, and the names all blend together. If it's a duplicate, I delete those requests.

Generally speaking though, I try my best to ensure that every request gets posted. Yes even if it's weird, even if it's niche. You can submit characters from that one webcomic, or that one movie you love from 1954. The only requests that get deleted are ones that are 1) duplicates 2) violate the posted rules or 3) are so incomprehensible that I have no way of knowing what the fuck the requester is talking about.

the way it's usually less (character does this) and more (character does this BECAUSE ____ // character is doing this and FEELING ____) feels like it's trying to give context, to me. but again idk maybe just me

@septiccoffeefreak - "What I'm noticing here is more along the lines of just, how we almost always seem to open with a person. Usually by their actual name(s) too and not just a pronoun. I understand what you mean, Tommy, but I don't personally get that vibe? You could totally be right, of course, I just don't pick up on that. I defenitely notice, though, just how many of these are sentences where the literal first word is a name. the two exceptions to that are the pronoun "they" (which is still a person- or two people actually), and then water.

I guess the dialogue could also be considered an exception, but I don't think it counts since it also directly references us as characters.

and that's not something you necessarily have to do. You could open describing scenery or objects, or with dialogue that DOESN'T have the names of the characters in it- you could open with wind through a blade of grass or a character cursing under their breath or someone's cellphone crashing to the pavement or something. So it's definitely an "us" thing, it's a quirk of our writing style and not just normal writing. I don't know if like, we ALWAYS do this, but I do know that in these ten fics you pulled we do. I wouldn't be surprised if we did it like literally all the time as well, but I'm not going to pretend to know every first line we've ever penned to paper. or...print?? I don't fucking know, here, I'm just analyzing sentences on the internet for a tagging project.

When did you start writing?

I didn't start writing like I write now until I was in my mid-late teens, but when I was a kid I used to draw stick figure comics of my friends going on adventures or having conversations about various things. My earliest writings are lost somewhere on ff.net and I don't even remember what my username was so, RIP.

Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?

I like works that read like journal entries. I used to eat that shit up hard as a kid. It made me feel very connected to the character, like an intimate view into their head and how they think and feel about things. Not sure what kind of genre that is, if it even is one. I'm able to describe what I like but I lack the knowledge of being able to say "oh I like this theme/genre." 11th & 12th grade AP english at work, I guess. If I like it, I like it.

Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?

Not really. I've had a couple comments from people say I write like Anne Rice and it was enough to get me to start listening to The Vampire Chronicles (granted I'm writing about a fictional vampire so I take it with a grain of salt). But I really just wish to write things that people enjoy reading.

Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?

Usually laying on my couch on my phone, lmao. I write/edit entirely on my phone and then post via desktop.

What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse?

Not the best thing but weed tbh. Otherwise my brain is screaming at me that everything I do is stupid and discourages me from even trying to be creative.

Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?

Suffering, lmao. Everyone has to suffer in some way before getting to the good part. But I think that comes from a personal spot within myself.

What is your reason for writing?

I don't know, honestly. At first it was to explore sexuality because I've been very repressed for years in that regard, but as I go on with Sonnet it's touching certain parts within me that I didn't realize I'm not really comfortable with at all. And it's been a real fucking struggle continuing to write this fic. But I can't get my head into another state of switching to something else because I feel like I have to best it.

Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating?

When people tell me they've reread my work, but also when they spam comments about how dumb a character was in that chapter, or that it made them cry. Idk, to realize something I made invoked emotion in someone else astonishes me, always.

How do you want to be thought about by your readers?

I just hope they enjoy what I put out. I don't ask for much else.

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?

I think I've gotten pretty good at describing emotion. Emotions have always been really hard for me to feel/work through and admittedly I'm severely emotionally stunted irl, so I try challenging myself by thinking about certain situations and what kind of emotional responses it would bring up for certain characters. And then I go from there.

How do you feel about your own writing?

Eh, 50/50. I haven't done much writing these days because I've pretty much lost my steam. Too much personal shit going on to really think about much. But I know I've written some good and some bad. But it's a struggle to allow myself to believe I write well.

When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely for yourself, or a mix of both?

I try not to think about that because I'm guilty of comparing myself to others constantly. To the point where I guilt myself out of wanting to write because "oh they did this so much better than me," or "oh their flow is so much cleaner, they articulated this so much better etc." So I write how I feel something would go in a certain situation. Which, I guess, is self-indulgent in nature?
