what are your thoughts on patho 1 vs 2? what aspects from each game better suit your preferences? your art and writing is magnificent i'm giving your brain a platonic kiss
omgggg so I've probably talked about this before but it's no surprise to the people that I'm A P1 Defender. She's my sweetie darling she's my most beloved. I Vastly prefer her over P2 in most points besides a few. as a list, in no particular order,
What I prefer of P1
the character designs for the vast majority of named NPCs, mostly the adults. I adore P1 Yulia and Eva, I basically never draw them as their P2 selves. I Pretend I Do Not See It. P1 Yulia is basically perfect and I will never forgive P2 for what they've done to her. they striped her of all her more andro features (same hair as dankovsky [the other character who has that haircut is Aspity, who's also very uh. Naked-Women-Minded], THE ONLY WOMAN OF THE ENTIRE CAST WEARING PANTS) and of her over lesbian lines. they withheld her line of being spoken of like an invert (Bachelor route), which is a line which To Me in combination with how she looks, how she Is with Eva, is a solidification of ⭐️🌷YEAH THATS A LESBIAN CHARACTER WE CANT REALLY USE THE L WORD⭐️🌷. Eva is also Only Ever P1 Eva to me. her p1 design Already Is orientalisant/orientalist visually and already Does imply a fantasm of The Other without looking like Toddler Who Got Into Mom's Craft Bin like she does in P2. Excited to see her in a dress for P3 though there's still hope. I prefer P1 Maria because her blue eyes make her unsettling in a way the warmth of the brown eyes she has in P2 does not, and her Peculiar dress gives her a magical aura that the more classic-constructed red dress of P2 does not. I prefer P1 Viktor with his equally unsettling firefly-green eyes. I prefer P1 Simon with his wizard's attire. I prefer P1 Anna with her tragic tightrope-walker attire that makes her stand out eerily. I prefer P1 Grief with his unsettling eyes and his garb that looks way more movable-into than his P2 cocoon. Makes him look way more like an active dangerous mouse-like thief. His P2 labia-collar coat got him looking so cozy and vulnerable [which to be fair vulnerable he becomes. just think of it now I'm realizing how that pussy collar looking like Damocles' sword around his neck prefigures the crushing hold of the inexpectedly-female Inquisitor. Okay I see how it is. Still prefers his p1 self] and also slow, molluskesque, very "hermit crab shell". I prefer p1 clara. I've mentioned before how her p1 self looks more believably like a child, her haircut very Jeanne d'Arcesque (and I fw Jeanne d'Arc), it gives her a youth which makes her vulnerability and fear believable and yet makes her Scariness that much more surprising. P2 Clara could shank me and I'd be like Saw that coming (even though I understandddd what they're doing with her #bald [sickness and monk]). I prefer P1 stakh's fit, all leather, I fit it suits him better as a follower of Isidor's teaching. I draw the twins equally as p1-looking than p2-looking but their p1 FACES, with ANDREY'S SCAR and their BUMP ON NOSE and UNIBROW means so much to me. I also prefer Peter's fit of p1. 50/50 on Andrey, I like his p1 knuckle rings & his p2 bandaids so I give him both lol. Also I prefer how Peter looks way more drunk in p1 because he's so much more red and has bloodshot eyes lol. I prefer capella's face and hair in p1 but MOSTLY based on her portrait. Like give her her waves. The fuck.
the interiors. P2 really fucking dropped the ball on the interiors. The overwhelming amount of rugs, patterns, colors that never quite match, it all made for a surreal, poisonous almost environment. The weird trees in the houses..... so so so sad. I also love p1 Farkhads Grave I love how it's surrounded by pillars with that ridge on top, looking like they're holding the grave back... so Prometheus Bound coded... loooove the writing on it too. Smilesssss
The music...... she's unmatcheddddd she's unparalleled. Whoever said "Half-Life meets Genghis Khan" I have no way of agreeing because I haven't played half-life (nor have i met genghis khan but it's never too late. I guess) but it's so true. Always fucking raving about the music. You hear a p1 OST and your ears perk up in the way p2 OST, bar a few, don't do for me. Andrei Kabak so good they didn't even have to change it #slay
A loooot of the characterization as well as character Bevahiors. I've already mentioned Eva and Yulia but Eva And Yulia AGAIN. I prefer p1 Anna, her underlying dangerosity (in no small part aided by her venomous-looking attire). Most of the characters are #weirder, more wordy, more opaque and occult in ways p2 lacks. The twins especially p2 truly deweirdified the twins a lot. Like bring back Peter's suicide attempt wailing over the blue flame. Waiting on p3 to bring this back. The threefold bullet line you wouldn't find thag in p2. That part of the Bachelor’s route where the Kain started bodyhopping. Bring that back in p3 or I will riot. Bachelor route again (they come to mind because I've been going over it for Fic Endeavors but that's an ongoing theme across the routes) where WOMEN CONSPIRED TO COVER LARA’S ASS DURING AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT TO SHE DIDNT GET IN TROUBLE. #WOMENSUPPORTINGWOMEN. Also laras assassination event. Bring that back in p3 or I am not even watching a playthrough of your game. (Jesting. Unless?)
There 3 last points indicate to me that p2 toned down a lot of stuff because it has the explicit goal to be more grounded. This makes sense with Burakh's affiliations; stripping down the houses of ornaments to show a more earthy/down-to-earth view of the events, stripping down the music of its Weirder sides for something again more "realistic" and down-to-earth, toning down the general weirdness of the people so the weirdness of the land shows through... etc. I understand it narratively and logically, but that don't mean I have to like it equally. Smiles.
now onto the stuff I do prefer of P2:
most of the children's character designs and general lore. Murky and Sticky barely change #alreadyperfect but I do love what they did with Khan, Notkin, Grace, Taya to a lesser extend (I miss her little curls soooo bad it's not even funny). I also really like the town NPCs (kids and adults). I also think their ages (13-16) fit more than the 10 of P1 — while p1 insisted on children So Young and yet So Bloodthirsty, I think their slight aging up in P2 is a pragmatization done right. it takes away from the So Young Yet So Brutal but it makes for a more compelling (to me) "teetering on the verge of adulthood [15 is historically an age where Responsibilities Come To You, and in the modern age it's still true to some extent [but age-appropriate Teenage responsibilities such as learning to drive, picking a line of study for your last years of high-school which will shape your future, etc] and yet wrestling with both terribly adult responsibilities and yet vulnerable like a small child". Also like. I Remember Being 15 In That Situation I Too Might Have Asked A Guy To Kill Someone. I believe it. I believe gang violence for 15.
As far as other character designs go, I don't mind Lara [elaborating below], I prefer Katerina's [i_play_pathologic_2_for_the_plot_🍈🍈👀💧.png. sorry I don't know what came over me], I like Aspity's anisocoria. Aglaya Lilich I Um Starts Fanning Myself. I also like p2 Burakh and Dankovsky, and typically draw them in these fits (fond of Burakh's sweater. Never-ending source of gay scenes also). Dankovsky keeps his p1 unibrow though you cannot make me take it away from him.
some new characterizations, most including the kids [cf above] but also I Like that the apple basket gang is a thing now. smiles. makes me happy. I don't mind Lara changed from her p1 self to her p2 more "girl next door" vibe, I think that crossed with an assassination attempt is kinda slay. I fucking love how aggro Rubin is in p2. Truly the Cain to Burakh’s Abel. smileeeesssss loves it sooooo much. Attack kill. even if I still go by p1 lore for him of Army previous guy + was about to be formally adopted by Isidor, I think crossed with his p2 beef it makes it even more compelling.
The herbs and their Finding mechanics. I prefer the variety of herbs of p2 and their designs, very lovely, and well. Love When It's Easier To Fucking Find Them Now Is It. Like hate to say it it makes more narrative sense too so. Don't even regret saying this.
The Abattoir. I love its redness. P2 Abattoir Inspires me way more than p1's does, in atmosphere, sounds, designs.
The Herb Brides. Hate to say it. You know I've bitched and bemoaned and grumbled at the treatment of the Brides #hater but listen. I live the variety of them in P2. They endlessly inspire me as One Might Have Noticed. I do like their movement of head when you try and talk to them, that knowing look they have. They have potential. They have potential. They have potential. They have potential.

the actual game mechanics lollll I think p2 does well with Burakhs Surgery mechanics. I also love the dice throw of midnight for tomorrow's infected, it keeps you on your toes, it genuinely despairs you, and you're directly responsible for most of them..... smilessssss the suffering and wickedness the evil the evil the wickedness. Equally, I like the "mind map" of the unfolding, it sometimes is really funny.
I like that Theodor Bastard is on the beat for the OST I fw Theodor Bastard
I am aware the list of things I prefer from P2 is numberably longer but it's more like.... of P1 I prefer Her Whole, in P2 I prefer bits and pieces of it which, in a better world, I could just inject into P1 to make a beautiful third game. P3: meiris version.
Thank You For Read...[sic] feeling the kiss in my mushy squishy wrinkly brain

general info/context:
They were the same clan but fell apart (Steppeclan)
Spireclan, Termiteclan And Humbleclan
All medicine cats named -heart
Queens are replacement for in-game mistresses, they're not nursing mothers. They're instead like mothers of the whole clan. There are also queen apprentices that can only be of queen blood. They get -sight names until they become full queens (leaders) and get -star.
Moonspire - Polyhedron (the kits call it the playden), Bullplace - Abattoir, Hollowpool - Cathedral
Polyhedron is made of ice that doesn't melt, Abattoir is made of that kinda ancient brown dusty ice that has diseases in it, Cathedral is a bunch of tall sticks and a puddle (melted ice) (fail)
Herb mates are also another cat class only special kin cats can be apprenticed to. They have -dancer names.
The powers that be are Starclan. Aka the giant kids. No idea how that explains them being like a literal government. Maybe everyone is super religious. I mean maybe god is real. Warrior cats
Daniil was a kittypet that lived in a veterinarian clinic
Rubin was unofficially apprenticed by Isidor, never got the -heart name.
The guardian cats are also in this au. A clan full of medicine cats. This is the place where Daniil lived and Artemy studied, but they didn’t know each other (Capital basically)
The Stamatins are former kittypets and den builders that used to live with the guardian cats.
The army is also another faraway clan that is full of warriors that fight by the orders of Starclan whether they like it or not

trying to articulate the Pathologic 2 timline before making a nice looking spreadsheet, gonna use this post to keep track of notes, feel free to add inputs in the comments, corrections will be appreciated and I'll make edits to the post accordingly, just keep it strictly Pathologic 2 information and not P1
Pathologic 2 timeline (draft?)
I will be using the second outbreak and first day of the game as a point of reference. Orange lines are ones I'm unsure about
B.D1 = Before Day One
A.D1 = After Day One
-
20+ years B.D1
Artemy Burakh is born
Artemy's mother dies during child birth
"Haruspex: My mother died giving birth to me. I don't remember her, but I need no other."
Ersher Burakh dies young (unsure if his death predates Artemy's birth or not)
"Katerina Saburova: Isidor's son. Artemy, is that right? Or is it Ersher?
Haruspex: No, Ersher was my older brother. He died young. I'm Artemy."
10 years B.D1
Victoria Olgimskaya dies (or the following year)
Capella: "She died when I was six. On the day of her funeral, I locked myself in with the coffin, so that no one could take her away from me. That evening, Brother explained there was no other way: The dead must be buried. That is best for them, he said. And then I understood."
9 years B.D1
Victoria Olgimskaya dies (or the previous year)
5-6 years B.D1
"Haruspex: Less. It's been five years since I left."
Artemy and Stakh have a fight that fractures their friendship
"Artemy: Remember that time at the Scruff, when we had that fight? You said you're bound to this land. That you'd been born here, and will die here. That you didn't want me to leave... That's when it all went downhill between us, wasn't it?"
Artemy leave the town
"Stakh: Did those six years of study go over your head completely? "Infected" and "healthy" are just words. But everything is interconnected in a body. A healthy organ might be showing first signs of infection. Conversely, it might already have developed antibodies..."
5 years B.D1
The Polyhedron is constructed (finished within the same year?)
"Haruspex: When was that thing even built? it wasn't here when I left."
"Andrey: Don't fret, it's not going to collapse any time soon. It's held for five years, and will survive at least five hundred more."
The first outbreak hits
"Stakh: I'm... at a loss. I've never seen a serious outbreak. And this...
Haruspex: Listen. Was there really not a single recovery?
Stakh: Not a single one. Neither was there one five years ago. I don't know of any other such disease."
Aspity is born
Murky's parents are killed
"Murky: They died. Five years ago. Bad disease. A lot of people died.
Haruspex: How can you remember that? Impossible.
Murky: I don't remember what happened. But mom and dad told me. It's true!"
2 years B.D1
Peter considered leaving the town (possible Farkhad death date?)
Peter: "I should have left this god-forsaken place two years ago. Get clean and move away for good. But I have no spine. I'm not a real man. Cannot leave her behind."
1-3 months B.D1
Spring: March/April/May
Lara's father dies
"Lara: We dearly loved our fathers. Now they're both gone. Yours, killed this morning. Mine, this past spring, after the Battle at the Fords. Many terrible things happened... while you were away."
Day One: Paitent zero of the Second Outbreak
Autumn: September
Farkhad died a while back
The second outbreak hits
Simon Kain dies
Isidor Burakh dies
The Changeling is born
Capella is 15 or 16 (speculation, can't find the supported dialogue)
10 years A.D1
Khan and Capella marry (speculation based on her P1 dialogue)

Hi. I'm from Russia, so google translator helps me lol It's interesting to read this blog. I want to speak in defense of Sofia. I think she's a smart and sensible girl, give her some time. In her Telegram blog, she wrote about her "slavic resting bitch face" problem. She's aware of that. She and Peter are on the same wavelength. They have a similar sense of humor and life values. Watching his interview, I imagined his girlfriend. Sofia behaves freely, posts what she wants and writes about what she wants. All this suggests that she is a BELOVED woman. If we talk about cheating, then she won't draw conclusions based on anonymous blogs? So he doesn't give reason for suspicion.
A few words about the other couple. Summer behaves like a COMFORTABLE woman. Beloved women whom a man adores do not transform themselves beyond recognition, they do not stop posting when they want to post. I feel a little sorry for her. Andrey loves only himself. And Mom, of course. I hope you at least understood something lol
I understand you but a few anons said she generally responds very rudely. Has nothing to do with a resting bitch face

Please tell us about the thoughts on patho! Sanya and patho! Yura. Please
of course, thank you for the ask!! i will preface this by saying that these roles might (and are likely to) change, like the bachelors role did - and that thats ok!! this is all just for fun <3 and i also want to say that im gonna alter the world of patho a bit, which, i think is also fine, since its an au !! fun times:) thoughts under cut
so, i'll talk about yura and arthur, then sanya (and sergei, sorta), and then them as a trio/duo.
patho!yura takes on the role of andrey stamatin. its a bit odd, but it fits. i changed yuras pants because i dont like andreys pants. its as simple as that. yura, like bachelor!dmitry and patho!arthur is from the capital. he studied with arthur and all that. young geniuses, you could say. though they haven't worked on as many architectual structures as the canon stamatins have, the few that they Have worked on are well known! whether or not they're liked is a whole different story. i wasn't sure who to put as the stamatin brothers, really, as the only brothers in pafl are nikita and kolya, i think? or tsar and arthur, sorta, iirc ferrys said a time or two that they think of each other as brothers or something like that. but! nikita and kolya will have.. different roles.. and tsar doesnt strike me as an an andrey nor a peter... so !! yura beletsky and arthur sokolov (his surname was in that one character sheet) are. the. umm. i dont know what their name would be but i think they're 'partners' - or at least, yura calls them that. (because of their colleague status, of course, since they work together so much. they can be gay too i guess. sigh. long live yaoi) yuras personality is pretty much the same as in canon, but hes a bit. hm. well, id say he acts like he's better than you, but hes just overcompensating. still very sad and depressed and all that.
arthur in this.. he's more depressed than angry in this one. i dont know. i havent thought of him all that much, truly and also !! youve only asked me for my thoughts on sanya and yura !! not arthur !! i dont have to tell you anything.... i WILL one day. believe me. but only when i have better thoughts
sanya! as you may have noticed, she's still albino in this au.. and, heres where my lack of knowledge on town on gorkhon comes into play !! so ! imagine that the steppe is like, zone-esque, or something. again, this au is just for fun, and though i Do think about it a lot, i dont think about it enough for me to have coherent thoughts. so! sanya. the townsfolk, i think, claimed she must be related to the worms in some way since shes an Albino and Strange and Defiant and a Rebel. so i think that at some point they started making that worm connection as an 'explanation' for her behaviour. so. i think, at a young age, rather young age, her father (and sergei sorta, i guess? but hed have been .. in his teens at the time, at least.. and since sanyas mom dies in childbirth no matter if shes a mutant or not, shes dead in this, too) sorta sent her to the cemetery. sanya is grace <3 she hangs around and maintains the cemetery a lot. its better than dealing with judgement and such. at first, at least. when shes a kid. soon she starts getting lonely, wishes to engage in society, to make friends, but, well. town on gorkhon is a small town. im sure she has some friends, though. 'friends'. maybe the little kids in the town and the like, yeah? maybe the kid gang? but i doubt shes close with them in any way. this is the first iteration of patho!sanya that i like in any way. its possible, likely, that ill change this, some of it at least, but! this is how it is for now.
during patho's main events, the stamatin brothers have already been in town for a few years. in this au, the architect bros are in town for 2 years before the plague breaks out. during those 2 years, sanya comes to 'admire' yura. envies his way of life. maybe they hang out a bit... since sergei is away studying to become a surgeon, he wouldn't be there to spoil their friendship - but, he also wouldnt be there to introduce them in the first place. .. but also, just bc sanya spends most of her time maintaining the cemetery and such doesnt mean she never goes out to town, for shopping and such, maybe. so. i think they start hanging out. not a lot. yura thinks shes a bit lame maybe. cringe. but, they start hanging out!! i thinkkk . ivan could be bad grief if i dont find anyone else. so, i think, sanya would get to meet him, too, and therefore also yana. shes not all that close with them, but, she does think theyre cool... and the gang thinks shes fine. shes there!! yana still thinks of her as "baby", arthur still thinks of her as "why are you even here", yura still thinks of her as "heheheheehhehe wont stop teasing you".. idk where tsar comes in but hes also "you are alright!!!"... only diference is. she doesnt fight all that much with ivan:( so sad
a lot of this is just incorehent thoughts ! but thats all i can muster up at the moment.. hope its enough !! and if its not !! my askbox is always open:D ask whatever whenever 👍
looks left looks right. ferry if you see this im sorry for doing cocomelon shit to your ocs..
#surprising me that people are actually interested in this au !!!#sorry for the day late response#i wanted to get my thoughts in order n all that ! and to draw something#paflogic#pafl#parties are for losers#pafl sanya#pafl arthur#pafl yura

patho has the best sibling relationships okay so far we have
-artemy and rubin. who accuses artemy of murder, then backtracks to “figurative murder.” artemy calls him an idiot, threatens to bonk him upside the head. eventually kills a bunch of people for him. they argue some more. rubin sleeps for the rest of the game. 10/10 would kill for each other but wouldn’t share a bag of chips
-andrey and peter. in the diurnal ending if peter dies but andrey lives then andrey screams at artemy about how he failed to save his brother and threatens to kill him. if andrey dies and peter lives peter doesn’t acknowledge it his dialogue is always the same. andrey is so fucking feral and is artemy @ rubin but dialed up to 1000. meanwhile peter is just “my poor little meow meow :(((“ but he’s only talking about the polyhedron 5/10 they make me sad
-capella and vlad (young). they literally never speak I cannot remember a single time they were in the same room together. capella is like “yeah my brother is an alcoholic ://///“ and vlad never even brings her up????hes just like yeah I didn’t like our mom. sucks 2 suck. 6/10 they have the energy of siblings that are at least a decade apart and never bring up they’re related
-khan and maria. I think about this a lot and it never fails to crack me up. maria is one of the young adults who grew out of the polyhedron right. and khan like. runs the polyhedron. imagine ur supposed to have this unfathomable power and u go to this building and ur sibling who’s at least 5 years younger than u and has the worst possible haircut is running the place. and eventually kicks you out. I’m going bonkers. 9/10 the way they talk is so formal but so mean I want them to argue
-clara n the changeling. are they siblings are they alter egos what are they. massive sibling energy. they blame everything on each other, claim that the other one is evil actually, and take every opportunity to fuck up each other’s lives. 11/10 more than anything I want for them to just be a regular set of twins. nothing supernatural about it.
-simon and georgiy kain. they’re twins but simon is twice as old. 10000000/10 oh my god

All that’s left | Pt. 2
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Fem! Reader
A/n: So, this is... a different reader in comparison from the one in the first part but I kinda like it? Anyway, Im considering making a third part and im thinking it'll contain some smut. I used google translator so please don't judge me. Tell me what you think. Happy reading.
All that's left pt. 1
Warnings: angst, mentions of scars, swearing, implied smut?
Word count: 3.263
Summary: After moving from her life in New York, away from the Avengers and him, she finds happiness and a life that she actually enjoys, but that seems to last little when she spots the familiar jet on the roof of the building she lives in. Is she ready to face them? To face him?

*Three months later*
The warm air surrounding my body made me take a deep breath and unconsciously smile. I was happy, I was free, I was whole. I was with my neighbor drinking coffee in our usual spot, which was a cafe near the main street of the place that I decided was going to become my new home.
“Продолжай рассказывать мне о своем боссе, который сводит тебя с ума” (Keep on telling me about your boss who drives you crazy) Andrei said making me laugh and shake my head.
“Не о чем говорить, он просто засранец, который дает мне слишком много работы и заставляет меня плакать” (Nothing to talk about, he's just an asshole who gives me too much work and makes me want to cry) I laughed. I had met Andrei a week after I moved in and there was an immediate connection. No, it wasn’t in a romantic one, god no, we were just really good friends that had a lot in common.
“Now now, that was not what i saw the other day when i went to pick you up from work” He said with a playful smirk plastered on his light brown face. I gasped, a fake indignant expression on my face while my hand went to my chest. He laughed loudly. “Don’t play that card, I saw you!” he added
“I don’t know what you are talking about” I said, trying to fight the smile that tried to come out but failing miserably, we both laughed.
He and I had become quite close in the little time that we had known each other. He was an American with a Russian name. He explained that his mother was from the states while his father was a russian spy, they fell in love against all odds and eventually, Andrei was brought to this world. When he was fifteen his father died and he and his mom went to America, where he finished high school and surprisingly, entered the military. He did two tours before he decided that he had enough and returned to Russia. Hence why he could speak both Russian and English fluently. As for me, I told him that I was in some sort of organization that worked for the government, and that’s why I knew russian. He believed me, thank God, I didn’t want to talk about how I was part of the Avengers and why I left. Obviously I will tell him when the time is right and I know that he can be fully trusted.
“Oh, come on Ames, are you going to tell me that you don’t like him one bit? Not in the slightest?” he asked, smiling and I shook my head. He stayed silent for a second and stared at me, like he was considering whether he should ask me something or keep quiet. “Is it because of him?” he finally asked, watching me closely to see my reaction. I felt my stomach twist at the mention of him. Of course it was because of him, because of them, I couldn’t afford getting hurt and betrayed one more time. Andrei didn’t know his name, or theirs for that matter, so I smiled weakly and nodded.
“Yeah, I know it sounds stupid but… I just can’t afford getting hurt, not again, not anymore” I said looking at my hands.
“I understand, believe me I do” he said, his hand reaching out to hold mine. I looked up to find his brown eyes looking for mine, I saw nothing but genuine love -the friendly kind- in them. I smiled and squeezed his hand. He was going to say something but his phone rang; a notification. He withdrew his hand to look at his phone and the moment he did, people around us started getting up and running in the same direction. I looked at him confused to find him frowning at his phone.
“What is it?” i asked.
“The Avengers are here…” He said and my heart skipped a beat and my body went rigid. Andrei noticed. “What 's wrong?”. Well, there’s no use keeping him from the truth anymore.
“So, remember when I told you that I worked for an organization for the government? Okay don’t freak out and hate me but, here it goes” I took a deep breath. “That organization was called The Red Room were they trained me from a very young age to be a perfect cold-blooded killer, years later i escaped and was on the run until i got a new identification, name, address, new everything and then joined the avengers to amend the wrongs I made in the past. To my luck, it didn’t go great because it ended up breaking me the same way The Red Room did, so I left to find a fresh start and came here where I met you. Please don’t hate me” I concluded in one breath. Andrei was silent with a straight face, which was hard to read, and eventually after a few seconds that felt like an eternity and shrugged his shoulders. WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN.
“Believe it or not, I've heard worse” he simply said
“Worse than finding out that your best friend is a train killer and former avenger?” i asked incredulously and he tilted his head and smirked
“US Agent mother and Russian spy father” He said. I laughed and he followed right after. “So, I'm guessing we are running away?” he asked. Say what now?
“We?” I asked, almost in shock to which he simply nodded, “You don’t think im just gonna let you go like that, please, is not that easy to get rid of me” he snorted. “And I'm supposing Amelia is not your real name either, given the fact that you ran off,” he added. Damn, he is good.
“Y/n, y/n y/l/n” I said and he slowly smiled
“Well y/n, nice to meet you, my name is Andrei Petrova” he said, extending his hand, i repeated his action with the same smile. “I’ve got to say, I like the name y/n more than Amelia '' he added and laughed. We were brought back to the matter at hand when the screaming of the people were getting louder. I snapped my head up and saw the familiar jet on the roof of the building where I was living.
“Here’s what we are going to do, I’m going to my apartment and buy us some time while you go get a car and,” i handed him my card “you are going to get all the money from my bank account. I will meet you in front of the cafe that’s two blocks away from my place”
“Are you going to be okay?” He asked with clear worry in his eyes. I smiled and nodded
“Yes, I promised. Now go” I said before he got up and ran. I sighed and went to my apartment. Was I really going to do this? After months, was I ready to face them, already knowing the truth? Well, guess I'm going to find out.
Once in the building I decided to programmed the lights to go out in 50 minutes and then I went to the elevator, wanting to appear as normal as possible even though I felt like my heart was going to explode from how fast it was beating inside my rib cage. When the elevator stopped at my floor I walked until I was standing in front of my door. I didn’t need to wait and confirm, I knew they knew I was here, now there’s only one thing left to do. But before I did anything, the door creaked open.

*10 hours earlier*
Bucky paced from one side to the other, finding himself incapable of staying put. Natasha sat silently on her chair, Tony was in the front with his head in between his hands, Steve was resting on the side of the wall looking at the floor, Bruce was just standing there holding his chin analyzing everyone in the room. Sam sat on the couch looking through his phone, Vision was sitting next to Wanda on the other couch, while Clint and Thor were sitting on the other chairs. Peter had some school stuff to deal with like the teenager that he was. They’ve been looking for her for the past three months, and about a week ago, a picture was found of someone that looked exactly like her, all except her hair that was a bit shorter and the color was different, but other than that, it was practically her.
Not wanting to get their hopes -or rather enthusiasm- up, they decided to look deeper and found out that the picture was taken a month ago in the city of Magadan located in Russia. They found out that before three months, the name Amelia Agapov, didn’t exist. The more they looked into it, the more they were convinced that it was her.
“The mission report from Agent Carter arrived, should i put it on the screen?” the voice of the AI filled the room. The team had been waiting for that report for days, the nerves of the question that lingered in the air ‘was it her?’ being present for that time only grew stronger as Stark asked FRIDAY to project the report on the screen.
Pictures were shown, most of them were about this woman buying in the market, having coffee with a guy, but there was one, where her face was looking straight into the lens of the camera, and it was that picture that left the people in the room absolutely rigid. It was her.
“We found her…” Tony said in a whisper. Everybody kept their gaze on the picture on the big screen. After months looking for her, they finally had found her. To everyone, it was like someone just discovered something new, a kind of relief and anxiety all at the same time.
“Suit up, we’re going to get her” Steve said to the group, but see, it was the choice of words from Cap that Bucky found unsettling.
“Get her? Like she is some kind of criminal?” he said, looking at his best friend dead in the eye. Steve opened his mouth to say something but Tony beat him to it.
“She was trained by The Red Room to be an assassin, we can expect nothing more from her '' He said, trying to calm Bucky down, but instead it only caused him to get angrier, and not only him.
“So was I” Natasha said, her voice low that could scare anyone to the bone if they weren’t so used to her.
"It's different" Tony said
“How is it different?” Wanda said this time, “It wasn’t when you practically recluded me after I helped Ultron and tried to kill you all” she added.
Tony sighed and looked down, realizing that he might be overreacting.
“Let’s just get suit up and get on with it” Steve said, cutting the rather awkward silence that filled the room.
The avengers were suit up and on the quinjet in less that forty-five minutes, and they were in Madagan in nine hours, it took them an hour to find her building, and once they found it, Clint landed the jet on the roof and they all got out and looked for her apartment. Funny enough, it was the same number as the one she used to live in New York; 108. They waited for what seemed an eternity until they heard footsteps just outside the door. Suddenly, the air felt thick with anticipation, but Bucky couldn’t wait any longer so he crossed the living room in two steps and opened the door. She was standing there. Silence took over the entire apartment until she broke it.
“Well, are you going to move so that I can get inside my goddamn apartment Barnes?” she said expectantly. Bucky realized that he had been staring at her since he opened the door. Her hair was different, more wavy and a shade or two lighter. He moved to the side and she was able to see the rest of the team. This was going to be one hell of an evening.

Breathe. In… and out…
It was hard. Fuck. Okay i can do this.
“Well isn’t this nice. All the team back together again!” I said with sarcasm dripping from every letter.
“What the hell did we ever do to you?” Steve said firmly.
“Damn, getting straight into it. That’s okay” i shrugged as I went to my room but the sound of the blasters of Tony's suit stopped me.
“Stop, don’t take another step” He said, lifting his hands and I smiled.
“Really? Well unfortunately i have to change, so i’ll leave the door open if it makes you comfortable” i said as i continued to walk to my room, and like I said, i left the door open.
“Y-you don’t have to do that, you can…” Wanda said but trailed off. I had taken my shirt off; my scars were shown.
“So, Steve” I broke the silence as I put on a black shirt, “the thing that you did wasn’t as bad as tin man over there, but you still let Hydra take me the day we took out the helicaries” i added. His face got pale and started shaking his head.
“What? No, you made it out safe, you-” He started saying but i interrupted him
“You sure? Who do you think stopped Rumlow when he tried to interfere with the exchange of the chip when you were in the helicarrier with Bucky?” He started thinking for a moment until he realized what I said fell into place. “Yeah, I took one hell of a beating, and if that wasn’t enough, I fell to the water. I fell thirty floors down, and I alone got myself out, because I didn't have anyone to cover me or have my back” i concluded.
“Your scars…” Tony said this time and i turned to him
“Yeah, thanks to you Mr. Stark” i said and he looked at me. “Doctor said that 74% of my body is covered with scars, along with one or two burns”
“You were that girl in The Red Room” Natasha said, causing me to turn my head to look at her and I smiled cynically, “You are Eliza” she finished.
“Давно не виделись с Натальей” (Long time no see Natalia) i said and she looked at me in pure surprise in her faced. That’s something coming from the famous Black Widow.
“What about the rest of us y/n?” Sam said this time, redirecting my attention from Natasha to the rest of the group. Thor was standing there holding his hammer, Bruce was next to the fridge, Clint was by the sink, Wanda was with Vision beside the kitchen table and Bucky was by the door. They were all looking at me. I took a look at the clock, I have to leave in less than thirty minutes.
“Long story short, Clint, Bruce, Sam, Wanda and Vision are the ones that didn’t do anything, so just chill out, you are still on my good side” I smiled and waved my hand.
“Hold on, but what did I do?” Thor asked and I looked at him.
“God it really is unfair how such a little thing can cause such a big problem. The first time you came down to earth, met Jane, bla bla bla… when her stuff was under custody of shield, and you took that notebook; they blamed me. I know it may seem weird because, how? Thing is, I was undercover at that time inside Shield, so when the notebook disappeared, guess who was the one that got beaten for it. I couldn’t move from the pain.”
Thor was standing completely still.
“Lady y/n…”
“How is it possible? I was there and never saw you” Clint interrupted Thor.
“It was before the avengers, i was on the run and a girl's gotta eat. Don’t worry, I never gave them anything. Got the money and then killed them, they were nobodies” I shrugged off.
“So, that’s all you needed to know, so if you please leave my…” I said but then he interrupted me.
“No” I would be lying if I said it didn’t send shivers down my spine at his tone, and I hate even more that he noticed it. “You’re missing one doll” Well fuck me
I turned to see him and he was walking painfully slow towards me and I was praying for my legs to not give out.
“Barnes” I simply said, thanking God and all the saints that it didn’t come out as a whimper. I took a look at the clock once more. I have to leave. Now. “Such a shame, wish you had fought for us, I would have gone through hell and back for you, Buck” his eyes were looking straight to my own and I felt like he was staring at my bare soul. In a way, he was. I smiled and I saw behind my back that the team was looking at us, we’ve never been this close, not in public anyway. I standed on my tiptoes and reached for his right ear, he instinctively reached down so it was a bit easier for me.
“If you want to know, you’ll have to find me first дорогой” (Sweetheart) I whisper. Next thing, the light went out just like I programmed it to and I slid beside Bucky to reach out to the door and to the hall. I could hear the team screaming ‘what the hell just happened’. I ran to the emergency stairs, and once out I could still feel him behind me, getting close. I went into an alley, having to detour, knowing that he eventually was going to catch up to me and I couldn't have him follow where I was really going. A few seconds later, I felt him caging me to the wall on the alley, both of us breathing heavily. His flesh hand went to my throat and his metal one rested on the wall.
“Given a different occasion, I would have loved this, don’t get me wrong, I still love how you…”
“What the hell are you doing?” he asked huskily and I smiled.
“I told you, you’ll have to wait until you find me again. Alone.” i said
“Come on Barnes, do you really think that the charade of being your personal fuck toy would last forever?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“It wasn’t like that, i…” he said but trailed off. The pain in my chest starting and clenching my heart.
“There it is…” i said lowly, the hurt in my voice evident, “listen, i’d love to keep talking about how you used me, but like i said,” i got close to his face, my nose touching his, “find me to found out” after that, I raised my knee kicking him right in between his legs.
He let out a pained groan and fell to the floor, causing his grip in my neck to give out. I took advantage and ran. Two blocks away, I saw Andrei. When he saw me running to him, he immediately got in the car and turned the engine on, then I got in.
“Drive, fast” it was the first thing i said
“Where?” he asked while we took off. I smiled and looked at him
“You’ll see”

Khan and stamatins headcanons
Khan absolutely adored Maria when he was younger because of their age gap(her p1 age and his p2, yes this is me projecting shhh). He just. Thought she was really cool and always wanted to hang out, which eventually ended up involving the Stamatins.
When Khan first met Peter, he was astounded by how cultured and intelligent the man from the Capital was. Peter also really respects kids’ ideas(may I point you to the Great Pit), so Khan always felt heard. He would talk about his day dreams and books he’d read, and Peter always responded with the same intensity. But a lot of the time, Khan listened to Peter because he could turn those day dreams into a reality. Whenever Peter spoke about the polyhedron, Khan became more and more enamored with the idea. After it was built however, Peter couldn’t deal with the fact that he could never fully experience his own creation. I think there’s a P1 quote that says something along those lines too. Khan watched his intellectual icon become a disillusioned alcoholic and realized that he was just like every other adult Khan had ever met.
If his brother could create Khans childhood dreams, Andrey was like a manifestation of one. Khans first impression of him was that he was strong, funny, assertive, stubborn, good at knives- everything a stereotypical YA main character was. Andrey basically viewed Khan as just Maria’s weird kid brother, but Peter seemed to like him, so it was fine with him. At some point, Andrey decides he has to teach Khan how to defend himself. I personally picture tweenage Khan as a complete fantasy nerd with poor social skills (more projecting). It doesn’t help that his mom was known to be completely terrifying. Andreys method of teaching Khan is pretty brutal, but Khan is a stupidly stubborn moron, so he goes with it. Blah blah blah, at some point Andrey takes him to a traumatizing knife fight, point is, Khan learns the violent, gritty reality that his dreams actually represent. This relationship would explain how rich stone yard kid Khan became a gang leader.

VLADIMIR PUTIN PROMISES THAT NOT TO ALLOW SINGLE-MARRIAGE MARRIAGE IN RUSSIA
Vladimir Putin promised that there would be no same-sex marriages in Russia while he was president, and supported the initiative to establish the concept of marriage as a union of a man and a woman in the Constitution.
"As for parent No. 1 and parent No. 2, I already spoke in public once and will repeat it again: we’ll not have one while I’m president. We will have dad and mom," Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the working group on the preparation of amendments in the Constitution of the Russian Federation, reports Kommersant. So Putin responded to the words of United Russia deputy Olga Batalina, a well-known homophobic rhetoric, that the working group received proposals to enshrine the concept of "traditional family" in the Constitution.
Putin added: “The family, you said, is a union of a man and a woman. And if this is an incomplete family, then what? Some things need to be clarified. Marriage is a union of a man and a woman, with the family a little differently. But the idea itself is correct and should be supported, you just need to think in what formulations and where to do it. "
Earlier, the initiative to introduce the concept of marriage as a union of a man and a woman in the preamble of the Constitution of the Russian Federation was made by the Orthodox entrepreneur, founder of the Tsargrad TV channel Konstantin Malofeev. The thought seemed very interesting to the authorities. At first, she was supported by the co-chair of the working group on the preparation of proposals for amendments to the Constitution, the chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council on constitutional legislation and state building Andrei Klishas. Then it was approved by the Russian Orthodox Church, and later by the top leadership of the State Duma and the top of "United Russia" in the person of Peter Tolstoy, vice speaker of the State Duma and head of the Russian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

You mentioned a burakhovsky wedding… please share your thoughts on that. Like do they marry as old men or younger? Is it like a steppe wedding or more a symbolic commitment thing? I’m curious
Cracks KnucklesOkay so the deal is
they Would have liked to keep it low-key (especially dankovsky who's used to having to cover his ass all the damn time), maybe the two of them + 3 friends each (rubin lara & grief for burakh, peter andrey and the rotten corpse of farkhad they haul around as a ghost like a noxious cloud over their heads for dankovsky), but burakh Is A Menkhu. he is the spiritual leader of the Kin, he is a vital social, spiritual and medicinal person within his community, so his business is the community's business, and vice versa. a sense of Ritual is deeply important to the Kin (not just to them tbh) and if he and dankovsky are to be seen, in the eyes of burakh's communities (kin and town) as bound by dedicated, committed love, a ceremony gotta be done. he WILL be put into a ceremony. dankovsky comes around to a wedding from a sense of What Happen In The Town Stays In The Town so might as well and when he comes back to the Capital the people don't gotta know and also it would make his mom soooo happy she so would so happy for her son to have a weddig(sic) so he's like oh my god okay fine. he's never been a big #marriagehead in no small part because it is like The institution of heterosexuality (especially within christianity) but he comes to consider that the whole "bride being given from father [her previous "master"] to husband [her new one] to go from domestic servant to domestic and reproductive servant" well Does Not Apply here from the But We Are Both Boys Men.
as far as age goes: vitally important to me that yeva (mamakosvky) get to see it so i think they marry age like. mid to late thirties. she's old but she still attends.
it's a whole ordeal because a Warden officiates a Kin wedding, and in the instance that burakh, The Main Warden, is the one getting married, another Warden must officiate. in my mind it is Oyun [cf this thing he's the one hidden and going over the book (2021 art jumpscare)], who also is in charge of updating the rites for Two Men [cf below] and it's kinda awkward due to the Almost killing each other thing.
there is a lot of motherhood - birth - death symbols within the kin's mythology (cf. Boddho herself, The Mother, the birthing of herbs, the "<o> brand" sigil associated with birth, motherhood, cycle and death...) which to me are apparent within the wedding rituals (not just for the fictional[ized] Kin tbh this is a widespread thing irl too) and as such said rituals have to be adjusted for the Gay Thing. it is not that no Kin member has ever been gay or bi, or even that a menkhu has never been that (i know what isidor did to that old man), it's just that burakh junior is the first one for whom such a ceremony pops up. whole ordeal. oyun has to go over the rites with burakh and a bunch of herb brides about what needs to be changed, what can be left in but adjusted etc. "we should probably take this sigil out of the rite it's for a descendance--" "[herb bride speaking] actually☝ it's technically for sexual potency so it can stay" meanwhile burakh is head in hands begging for it to be over. one of the rites include the husband helping his new wife hop on a bull and then lead that bull to the threshold of their new shared house and dankovsky has to sit his dad down and go "okay so i will be on that bull but this is not because i'm "the woman" in the relationship. you must understand this. not "the woman" because there is no woman. we're doing it this way because it's better for the bull to carry lighter (me) and also because i don't know how to lead a bull but burakh does. you understand this".
yeva brings armenian brandy to the post-wedding feast. there is LOUD singing and dancing. honey cakes also (to bring together burakh's & dankovsky's respective backgrounds).
#[peterstakh blog addition] rubin is burakh's best man & peter is dankovsky's and it puts the thought in peter's head.#later on rubin is like ''look what you've done he wants us to get married now''#wedding....2!!!!!!!!!!!!#allô (answers)#anonymous#burakhovsky lore#burakhovsky wedding#burakhovsky wedding lore#<- need to redraw something for it............ pensive

Xmas Message For 2019
And here we go, my 19th annual year-end love letter online …Georgi Balinov and I rang in the new year at a giant party in Bangkok, halfway around the world. That foreign location, its beauty and tastes, set the tone for my 2019, a year of seeing the world, while stabilizing my life. Though often in flux or movement, 2019 was a year many things normalized over the year.
In January, almost immediately after arriving stateside, I crossed the pond and saw Michelle Visage perform in the West End with Peter Wish. Afterward, I played with her wigs backstage and walked her towards the queer kids lining up for selfies and autographs. I am very lucky to have Peter and Michelle in my life, kindred spirits both. One reminding me that fame, fortune, ebb, and flow, but that being real is what matters most. The other, a reminder to stay forever young. I visited Berlin yet again and did the usual, working, and playing, hard.
February appeared and I traveled to Philadelphia with Sandra Hansel, Georgi, George Sapio, and Anthony DeFilippis. We toured Lisa Roberts’ house, saw a Dieter Rams exhibit, dined with George Alley. In Lambertville, that Sunday, I bought vinyl and vintage hats. Later that month, I got a swallow tattooed on my hand, a symbol of flight and travel, and Warhol’s knives, blackened into my shin. An Eames exhibit in Oakland was a sweet way to end the month.
In March with my crew, Georgi, Khadyon Reid, Luis Urribarri, Anthony, and George, descended upon Salvador for Carnival. It was insane! I watched Anitta live, and danced in a sea of pushing, fighting, kissing Brazilians for days upon days. I felt unsafe and alive, threatened and excited. It was intense. Back home I got my other hand tattooed, again honoring my love of seeing the world. I traveled to Portland, came back to NYC at the end of the month, finally moving into our apartment, the one we bought 1.5 years before, that I designed, and had renovated head to toe. Finally, we had our dream home. The weekend we moved in, the place was still not ready, but we were sick of living without our things and in other people’s beds. Peg Kendall and Georgi’s mom came, and we worked our asses off unpacking and starting to make the 2800 square foot loft on west 13th street a home. We’d lived in Airbnbs and friends’ places for 19 months and it was tiring not having a home, not having most of our things. My art! My toys! My shoes!. Those months taught me how important a home, a safe place, and the oasis of my collections is to my mental health. From March on I felt more on solid ground and dedicated more energy to my career and friendships as a result.
In April we went to Coachella, seeing Ian and Jose Seronni, JJ and Andrey Lunin, and dancing in the desert of California. Multiple trips to San Francisco, catching glimpse of old friends, scaling my team at work, as I took on more and more responsibility.
In May, George Sapio and I celebrated (me a little early) a shared, fun birthday weekend at Soho Farmhouse. Joined by Matthew Kelleher, Mark Silver, Jaime Tanner, Matt Lynch, and others, we went shooting and feasted on pheasant in the English countryside.June was really busy, insanely so.
For my 43rd in early June, I had a 30-person dinner party in our new place! We ended up at Club Cumming after, but before friends, new, and old, showered me with a vinyl record, the admission fee I’d set for my party. Lauren Foster, who has shared her home with us, was, appropriately, our first overnight guest. London, again, Berlin, too. Then home for Pride. Willam Ralphie hosted Bingo at eBay, Zach Augustine, David Mason Chlopecki, other loves attended. That weekend danced to both Madonna and Grace Jones on the pier and danced with 15K others at Javitz, where my favorite singer, Cyndi Lauper, belted “I Drove All Night,” her best song, at midnight. I stayed until the sun came up. NYC was electric that weekend. Parties, icons, friends from the world over … the city has an energy you could literally see and taste. I caught a few moments of the parade, overtaking lower Manhattan, and I smiled really big. God, it can feel good being gay! God, the world has improved for gay people (and yes, I know, we still have ways to go, especially for more marginalized LGBTQ groups). But I still took a moment to acknowledge the things that are better, that I have seen in my very gay lifetime. NYC that weekend was the ultimate place to reflect.
July 4th I went to Hamptons, with Ricardo, Brian, Felipe L. Mollica, others, guests of Anthony. Hosted Fab.com reunion, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, and took my team to Korea (where I shared a traditional Korean meal with Jae Hah), China (where I ate bird’s nests, jellyfish, sea snails, saw a Yves Klein show with Adnan Abbasi, and danced to 90s pop in a packed gay club), and Moscow (where I was amazed at how clean the city was and where I went to a traditional sauna and was whipped, naked, with tree leaves in front of dozens of Russian dudes in the nude). While in Russia a protest erupted, literally below the rooftop bar I dined in. Russia seemed freer than I’d expected, way more Western, up until this moment. I ended the weekend at a club at 3 AM, Russian women in high, high heels, dancing on the bar, vodka flowing like water. 2020 saw me traveling to places I romanticized as a child. Russia, one such place. I thoroughly enjoyed the friendships formed in Moscow, the food, and history. I want to return.
August, I was back in San Jose and Portland for work, then off again to Europe for vacation. We started our trip in Croatia, where Georgi and I kayaked around Dbruvnik’s harbor. Croatia’s cliffs and turquoise water did not disappoint, as we boated to islands and swam in caves. Driving south into Montenegro, the architecture reminded me more of Polish, Bulgarian trips, the water, greener. At the Amman we laid out next to The Beckhams, watching David kick a soccer ball with workers of the hotel, and watching Victoria read a book. Georgi and I then ventured to Mykonos, sunning til sunset and dancing til sunrise. A weekend trip upstate with our besties (including a guest appearance by Eric Lee, riding rides at the Colombia County fair, cooking pies, and grilling meats, ended our summer.
In September I went to Berlin and did Folsom and a speaking gig in front of 1K eBay sellers. I went again to Tel Aviv, meeting gay Israeli technology workers and a bevy fo Israeli start-ups. In Jerusalem, I returned to the wonderful Machneyuda with Gilad Ayalon, where they remembered me from my birthday the year before.
October saw us hosting my mother and my niece for a visit. We fell in love with Company XVI, a dance/burlesque/performance art troupe in Brooklyn. I took my mother to see Madonna, a night I will cherish forever. And we saw Dear Evan Hanson. A weekend in Miami with Lauren Foster and K was needed warmth. I took Georgi to see both acts of The Inheritance (so good!). Then off to Berlin, again, and Paris, where I looked at art and went shopping for fall clothes. Halloween, in NYC, was brilliant and over the top; I went as white Pierrot clown. In Brooklyn, to Honey Dijon, we danced all night. Ralph Rucci, the American couturier reposted our photo on Instagram, calling it high-fashion, however, it was Georgi who won the night as Spock.
November I was in NYC early on, shopping with Thomas Cawson (who hooked me up with pink denim Helmut Lang), eating Christmas cookies, and being interviewed by Buzzfeed, a segment on 90s toys. I imitated a Furby. Then a week in Portland (I glow-in-the-dark-miniature-golfed), and off to Helsinki, catching up with former friends from Fab, One Nordic, Hem. Then to Lapland, with Georgi, George, and Anthony, lapping up wine, winter wonderlands, and dining on reindeer and elk. Dog sledding, snowmobiling, Northen lights! Another childhood desire checked from the list. Dinner with Michelle Case in London closed the month.
In December I went back to Berlin (my second home) and hosted a fundraiser for Single Step in our home. In one night Georgi and I helped raise $50K to help build Bulgaria’s first LGBTI center. It was also an impromptu holiday party: so many old friends together again in one room. And now Georgi and I sit in an airport lounge, awaiting our flight to Baltra, in the Galapagos. Once we land, we’ll board a 7-day cruise on a mega-yacht/small cruise ship. This, I feel, I have been waiting my entire life for.
I often write about how I was lonely as a kid. I was gay, I had a drug-addicted father, I grew up very poor. I oftentimes say music saved my life. But, I don’t write enough about the joy animals gave me too. I had so many pets: newts, turtles, tortoises, tree frogs, geckos, crabs, salamanders, etc. Caring for them, feeding them, gave me peace and allowed me to love. One turtle I had had a cracked shell. He lived in my room for many, many years. I always preferred him, with his defects, to the others. I think I feel the same about people.
As a child, I became obsessed with the Galapagos Islands, and mostly the tortoises. I would read about them in encyclopedias and race to see them at zoos. I always felt connected to turtles. They were my spirit animal. Later in life, I’d bloom, my feathers growing, my pride, alive. I’d no longer consider myself a turtle, my spirit animal changed. I told this story to my colleague Eben Sermon, who runs eBay’s German business: I always wanted to be a turtle. But I ended up a cockatoo. Eben brought this up last week in Berlin and it made me think a bit more about affinities for animals and how I have not had that connection as often as I probably should.
So this week, before we ring in New Years in Rio, I will honor the old me, the kid, the quieter Bradford, the sadder Bradford, by visiting those turtles, finally.
And I’ll marvel at the wonder of nature and evolution, both the evolution of animals and this world, and also the very real and dramatic evolution of my spirit and happiness.
Happy Holidays, Peace & Big Love

Ice Dance Drama Timeline
Natalia Dubova rises as an ice dance coach in the 80s when Irina Moiseeva/Andrei Minenkov go to her as their career ends.
Tatiana Tarasova coaches Natalia Bestemianova/Andrei Bukin to 1988 Olympic Gold. They retire from amateur skating after winning 1988 Worlds.
Dubova’s Marina Klimova/Sergei Ponomarenko and Maya Usova/Alexander Zhulin are now fighting to be the top team in the world. Dubova also coaches another medal contender, Oksana Grishuk/Evgeni Platov.
Dubova favors Usova/Zhulin going into the 1992 Olympics.
According to Elena Vaitsehovskaya’s book, she saw Klimova cry when she found out Dubova favored Usova/Zhulin.
Andrei Bukin, who became good friends with former rival Sergei Ponomarenko after his retirement through show skating, begs TAT for over an hour to leave the theater and comeback to coaching and take Klimova/Ponomarenko, so they aren’t robbed of 1992 Olympic gold. He had already told Klimova/Ponomarenko that TAT would coach them before he even talked to her. TAT ends up agreeing.
Usova/Zhulin have been married since 1986. Zhulin starts having an affair with Grishuk.
Zhulin gives Grishuk his wedding ring before the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France for good luck. Grishuk wears it on a chain on her neck for the compulsory dances:
“How did she find out? This is just a guess, but maybe it was because he gave me his wedding ring for good luck before the Winter Olympics in France. I wore it on a chain around my neck in the compulsory dances. I gave back the ring the next day, after Maia went ballistic.” (x)
At the 1992 Olympics in February, Klimova/Ponomarenko win gold (TAT), Isabelle and Paul Duchesnay (Martin Skotnicky) win silver, Usova/Zhulin (Dubova) win bronze, and Grishuk/Platov (Dubova) come in 4th.
At the 1992 World Championships in late March, the podium is 1. Klimova/Ponomarenko (coached by TAT, but formerly coached by Dubova), 2. Usova/Zhulin (Dubova’s faves), and 3. Grishuk/Platov (also coached by Dubova).
Grishuk and Zhulin’s affair continued during the 1992 Tour of World and Olympic Champions. Usova caught Grishuk and Zhulin together at a restaurant and hit Grishuk’s head against a bar counter:
“Usova walked into Spago’s restaurant in Hollywood, saw Grishuk sipping a margarita at the bar, came up behind her, grabbed her hair and smashed her head against the counter." (x)
According to Grishuk, Usova actually went to her hotel room and begged her for forgiveness the next day:
“What they don't write is that Maia came to my hotel room the next day, got down on her knees and begged me to forgive her. Now we are friends.” (x)
Dubova kicks Grishuk out of her coaching camp for getting involved with Zhulin in mid-1992:
“Natalia Dubova, the woman who coached the four of us in Lake Placid, N.Y., sent me home to Moscow. She said she couldn't stand to see Maia cry.” (x)
Dubova tries to pair Platov with Tatiana Navka (future 2006 Olympic champion who is just a teen at the time). Grishuk goes back to her first coach, Natalia Linichuk. She is getting ready to skate with Peter Tchernyshev in case, but calls Platov saying “don’t let them tear us apart” even though Grishuk and Platov hate each other. BTW back in the late 80s, Peter Tchernyshev also skated with Maria Anikanova (Evgeni Platov’s wife).
Platov follows Grishuk to Linichuk in fall 1992 and they train under her:
“After a brief stop in Germany, where she, too, sought a new partner, Gritschuk returned to Moscow and her previous coach, Natalia Linichuk, Dubova's rival. Platov, who was supposed to go to Lake Placid in September 1992, stayed in Moscow to be with his new wife and rejoin his old dance partner.” (x)
Apparently Linichuk thought Grishuk was a traitor for leaving her in the first place since she was her first coach from 11 years old to 1989. Grishuk’s mom and aunt explained her situation to Gennadi Karponosov, Linichuk’s ice dance partner, husband, and co-coach and Karponosov convinced Linichuk to take her back.
Not sure if this is a reliable source, but allegedly Zhulin wanted Grishuk to quit skating to prove her devotion to him, she agreed, Platov got mad and snitched to Dubova that Grishuk wanted them to move to her old coach Linichuk, and then Dubova and her husband beat Grishuk when she kicked her out:
“Because of Grishuk Platov forgot about the wedding. He was going to marry Masha Anikanova, a skater who later became an actress. That time Oksana was head over heels in love with another skater Alexander Zhulin. She fell in love so much that could fulfill any Zhulin’s wish. Alas Alexander was married to Maya Usova.
Once, during a foreign tour Zhulin presented Oksana with a wedding ring, but… asked not to put it on, as he was not divorced yet.
“Now you know how I love you”, said Zhulin. “Can you prove your love to me?”
– What should I do? – Oksana asked quietly.
– You should quit skating. For me. For us.
– But why?
– We’ll have a family, you know. My wife is a skater. I do not want this. At work and at home, we have the same problems. I need another family. Well, do you agree?
Oksana almost cried. At the beginning of the career. But if because of love… So, she agreed.
Grishuk didn’t want to be with Platov and refused him. The man was offended. And Platov said to their coach Dubova that Grishuk wanted to take him and returned to Natalia Linichuk, who was Oksana’s ex-coach.
Dubova was shocked! She and her husband couldn’t cope with their nerves and broke Oksana’s rib and nearly knocked out a tooth.
As a result, Grishuk packed up and flew to Moscow.
Platov found a new partner – Tatiana Navka. Evgeni was still together with Masha Anikanova, but their marriage was short-lived.
Grishuk came to Moscow, hung her skates on the wall and began waiting for her prince Zhulin.
One night Maya Usova phoned Oksana and told her about her husband’s love affair with Tatiana Navka. Grishuk could not sleep.
A day later Zhulin called her: “Well, dear, are you waiting for me?”
Oksana said that she knew everything about his affair with Navka and asked not call her anymore.
The duo Platov-Navka broke up and he came to Linichuk and Karponosov.
To get over the depression Grishuk also came to Linichuk. So the couple Platov – Grischuk was reunited and in 1994 they became Olympic champions. Then, in 1994 Oksana could not even imagine that just four years later she would skate paired with Zhulin, with a man, whom she thought she would never forgive.” (x)
1990 and 1992 World Junior Champions Marina Anissina/Ilia Averbukh split at the end of the 1991-1992 season because Averbukh falls in love and teams up with Irina Lobacheva. Anissina and her mother studied videotapes of international competitions and selected Gwendal Peizerat and Victor Kraatz as suitable partners. Anissina sent letters to both but the one to Kraatz did not reach him. Peizerat did not respond immediately but when his partnership with Marina Morel fell apart, he contacted Anissina. Anissina wanted them to skate for and train in Russia, but Peizerat’s family was opposed, so they trained in Lyon with Muriel Zazoui and represented France.
At the 1992 Russian National Championships, Alla Shekhovtsova tells the judges if they put Elena Kustarova/Oleg Ovsyannikov over Anjelika Krylova/Vladimir Fedorov their careers will be over:
“The only rock on Linichuk’s way to gathering all potential contenders for the two vacancies on the Russian team (one was reserved for Usova and Zhulin) under her umbrella was her collegue Svetlana Alekseeva. To be exact, the problem was her skaters – her daughter Elena Kustarova and Oleg Ovsyannikov, who were constantly competing with Linichuk’s Angelica Krylova and Vladimir Fedorov, and along with them eyed the third spot on the team (the second was predestined to belong to Gritchuk and Platov).
The 1992 Nationals in Chelyabinsk were supposed to make the final determination. I naively supposed that all the talk of the “bought” judges that I kept hearing from all camps was nothing more than an attempt by the weaker (or less confident) contender to excuse their possible loss in the fight. Yet on the second day of the competition, after the dancers were done with their compulsories, I became an unwitting witness to the most engaging scene. Piseev’s wife, judge Alla Shehovtseva, was surrounded by the judges from this competition, and without pulling any punches or choosing her words, was driving home a very simple point – anyone who will place Alekseeva’s team above Linichuk’s in the upcoming programs can consider their careers over.
Despite those instructions, the results were even. Kustarova and Ovsyannikov lost by one vote. However, they also lost their whole career – Krylova and Fedorov got onto the team, got bronze a few months later at the Worlds in Prague, and just a little later Ovsyannikov was lured to Linichuk’s camp to skate with Krylova just as Fedorov was thrown out. The dangerous opposition was rooted out.” (x)
Usova/Zhulin are clearly the #1 team in both Russia and the world in the 1992-1993 season. They win both the 1993 European Championships in January and the 1993 World Championships in March with 1st place finishes in every segment. Grishuk/Platov place 2nd at both events. At Worlds, Grishuk/Platov are even almost overtaken by bronze medal winners Krylova/Fedorov.
Dubova refuses to let Rusfed see Usova/Zhulin’s programs ahead of time since Zhulin is injured. Rusfed switches their support to Grishuk/Platov for Olympic season.
At the 1994 Olympics in February, Usova was extra depressed because Zhulin started having an affair with Navka as well while Grishuk was away. Zhulin was 31, while Navka was only 19. Then Navka’s partner, Samvel Gezalian beat Navka and said “HOW COULD YOU DO IT TO MAYA SHE’S YOU’RE FRIEND.” Then Usova’s mom and Zhulin’s mom started beating each other too. The police got involved.
Grishuk/Platov win the 1994 Olympics. Usova/Zhulin retire from amateur competitions. Grishuk/Platov then go on to win the 1994 World Championships in March as well.
Krylova/Fedorov split after 1994 Worlds where they had to withdraw from the free dance due to an injury to Krylova. Krylova teams up with Oleg Ovsyannikov.
Linichuk moves her base to Newark, Delaware. Grishuk/Platov and Krylova/Ovsyannikov follow her there.
After 1995 Worlds, Navka/Gezalian split.
At 1996 Worlds in March, you can see this fluff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrpC9QEXAZs about Grishuk/Platov and Krylova/Ovsyannikov and how they love training together in the US and the most important thing is to stay friends. Grishuk/Platov got gold and Krylova/Ovsyannikov got silver. They were the top 2 teams in the world leading into the 1998 Olympics.
Grishuk/Platov and Linichuk start to have problems. Some say that Grishuk/Platov wanted Linichuk to weaken Krylova/Ovsyannikov, so Grishuk/Platov would have an easier way to another Olympic gold, while others say Linichuk wanted Grishuk/Platov to retire so Krylova/Ovsyannikov could win Olympic gold. Linichuk also tried to take credit for choreographing Grishuk/Platov’s 1996-1997 programs from after they left her:
“On the other hand, when, in 1997, Russian, World, and Olympic ice-dance champions Grishuk & Platov split with their coach, 1980 Olympic champion Natalia Linichuk, they chose to fight all of their battles exclusively in the press. In December of 1996, Grishuk & Platov, having been off-ice for most of the season due to Platov's knee injury, reportedly travel led to Moscow, for a secret meeting with the Russian Federation. There, they sought a guarantee that they would win all the competitions they entered, leading up to the 1998 Olympics. The Federation told them they could provide no such guarantee. Grishuk & Platov then returned to their home-base in Newark, DE, to ask their coach, also coach of the 1996 World Silver Medallists, Krylova & Ovsianikov, to insure another year of victory for them, by deliberately weakening the second team. When Linichuk also refused, Grishuk & Platov split for Marlboro, MA, and Tatiana Tarasova, trainer of 1996 World Silver Medalist Ilia Kulik. At the 1997 European championship, after Grishuk & Platov's new dances not only won them the gold, but also an almost record-breaking twelve perfect 6.0's (England's Torvill & Dean still hold the record, 17 6.0's at the 1984 Europeans), Linichuk tried to take credit for the stunning victory, by claiming she'd participated in choreographing their new numbers. Grishuk categorically denied the contention, adding ‘Let God be her judge.’
God, or at least, the Russian media, who sided squarely with the skaters over their ex-coach, asserting in ‘6.0,’ the official publication of the Russian Skating Federation, ‘Linichuk did every-thing in her power to push Grishuk & Platov into the professional realm. This duo had already done their thing for her (won Olympic gold) and she was convinced it was time for them to leave.’ At Europeans and the subsequent Worlds, even the Ukrainian media got into the act, ruminating about their national champions, Romanova & Yaroshenko, who also trained under Linichuk, ‘One can only feel sorry for the athletes. Their mentor will never make champions of them. Linichuk is a trainer first and foremost of Russian skaters, and she always places her bets on the Russian athletes. As long as (Romanova & Yaroshenko) keep training with Linichuk, they will see medals hanging only on the necks of their opponents.’
Within months of the media declaring Natalia Linuchuk persona non gratta of skating, the coach who, at the 1996 Europeans, saw a podium filled with only her skaters (Grishuk & Platov Gold, Krylova & Ovsianikov Silver, Romanova & Yaroshenko Bronze) was down to one winning team. Heeding the advice of the Ukrainian press, Romanova & Yaroshenko also defected to Tarasova.” (x)
Later in 1996, Grishuk/Platov leave Linichuk and move to Tatiana Tarasova in Marlborough, Massachusetts. TAT said in her book that Grishuk could be such a bitch sometimes that she wanted to beat her, but congratulates herself for refraining herself.
In 1996, Navka teams up with Nikolai Morozov. They are coached by Zhulin and Bob Young in Connecticut.
On a summer skating tour, American singles’ skater, Nicole Bobek, and Grishuk start feuding over both being romantically involved with figure skating tour promoter, Michael Collins. Grishuk claims Bobek slapped her, while Bobek denies ever touching her. Apparently, Bobek was also linked to the divorce of Platov and Anikanova:
“American skater Nicole Bobek slapped Grishuk while the two argued over a mutual lover, Michael Collins, a skating tour promoter. ‘I almost fainted,’ Grishuk said. ‘I'm not very big. I thought to hit her back but I didn't want to get into a fight. I didn't understand. I was crying, of course. I didn't do anything. Then she apologized later that night.’” (x)
“‘Pasha, or whatever she calls herself, is one of those people who needs attention,’ said U.S. singles skater Nicole Bobek.Where, you might ask, does Bobek fit into this plot? It was a boyfriend thing, with first Grishuk and then Bobek vying for the affections of the same man. Grishuk said Bobek slapped her in a hotel lobby last spring.‘I never touched her,’ said Bobek, who once was linked romantically to the divorced Platov.” (x)
On September 29, 1997, Oksana Grishuk changed her first name from Oksana to Pasha because she was tired of being confused with 1994 Olympic ladies champion who had been arrested for drunk driving, Oksana Bauil:
“I legally changed my first name to Pasha. If you are going to have a name for the rest of your life, it should reflect your personality. I am passionate about life, about skating, about Hollywood.
I didn't want to be Oksana any more because so many people confused me with Oksana Baiul, the bad Oksana, the criminal Oksana. She is a fat has-been.” (x)
Elena Vaitsehovskaya said that one of the reasons Grishuk changed her name from Oksana to Pasha was because she was jealous that everyone in America knew Oksana Bauil, but not her and was offended when people would confuse them.
At the 1997 Champion Series Final (the equivalent of today’s Grand Prix Final) in December, Grishuk’s aunt confronted Canadian team Shae-Lynn Bourne/Victor Kraatz over their Beatles original dance not being rock n’ roll enough. Shae-Lynn thinks Grishuk sent her aunt, but Grishuk denies sending her:
“Grishuk trashed Baiul during December’s Champions Series Final in Munich, Germany. That also was where her aunt, Zoya Kujawsky, interrupted a news conference to excoriate the quality of Bourne’s and Kraatz’s skating. Kujawsky, who Grishuk says is a journalist, did not have media accreditation. ‘Some people would stoop to any level,’ Bourne said, implying, as others have, that the aunt was planted by Grishuk.” (x)
“A bizarre outburst occurred at a news conference following the original dance when a woman identified as Grishuk’s aunt criticized the Canadians, telling them they didn’t belong in second place and that their performance to Beatles music could not be considered rock and roll. Kraatz said the criticism felt like a kick in the groin. Bourne seemed on the verge of tears. ‘I don’t know the woman very well,’ Grishuk said of her aunt. ‘I haven’t seen her in three years.’” (x)
Before the 1998 European Championships where Grishuk/Platov were 1st and Krylova/Ovsyannikov were 2nd, Krylova said she thought the result was already decided:
“But there is plenty of oral sparring among the coaches and athletes in this discipline where rules are disregarded by both skaters and judges. Krylova, runnerup at the European championships, did not hesitate to say, ‘I think the result already was decided’ before the competition.” (x)
At the 1998 European Figure Skating Championships in January, Krylova/Ovsyannikov and Grishuk/Platov collided TWICE in practice and sustained injuries. Krylova claimed it was an accident, but Platov thought they were out to kill them:
“Linichuk also coaches Krylova and Ovsiannikov. At the European championships in January, first Grishuk (forearm) and then Platov (pant leg) was cut by one of Krylova's skates during encounters that occurred in a practice session and the warmup for the compulsory dances.‘Everybody wants to win, but nobody wants to kill each other,’ Krylova said. ‘We're not boxers.’” (x)
“At the last European Championships in Milan, Italy, Krylova slashed Grishuk on her forearm with a skate blade and sliced Platov's costume behind the knee. Krylova called it an accident. ‘I think maybe because we are winning so many times,’ Platov said, ‘they are trying to kill us.’” (x)
Linichuk threatened to sue Grishuk/Platov for $100,000 in unpaid coaching fees, but they said that she didn’t give them enough attention and that’s why they moved to TAT:
“It also has brought them near legal action by former coach Natalia Linichuk, who claims she is owed nearly $100,000 by Grishuk and Platov. They counterclaim Linichuk, who coached the pair to 1994 Olympic gold, owed them more personal attention. They left her 14 months ago for Tatiana Tarasova.” (x)
TAT said that she didn’t think Bourne/Kraatz deserved a medal at the 1998 Olympics:
“Tarasova thinks anyone could see Bourne and Kraatz don’t deserve a medal. ‘In my professional view, the Canadians are not ready for competition this year,’ said Tarasova, who coached the 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympic dance champions." (x)
Dubova who of course hates her former pupil Grishuk and was also Bourne/Kraatz’s coach replied with this:
“Dubova, the Canadians’ coach, countered: ‘Probably we are being attacked because for the first time in history, a North American couple (is trying) to win an Olympic gold medal in ice dancing.’” (x)
Victor Kraatz trashed Grishuk/Platov’s Memorial free dance saying they always recycled their programs, while Grishuk said Bourne/Kraatz’s Riverdance was so easy she could learn it in a day:
“Grishuk said she could do the Canadians’ ‘Riverdance’ routine in a heartbeat. One of Grishuk’s relatives even got into the fray by lambasting the Canadians for their original-dance piece. The relative, who was wearing a press pass, claimed the Canadians weren’t dancing to rock and roll. The Canadian couple responded that the Beatles are, indeed, rock 'n’ roll. ‘It seems like every year the Russians pick the same kind of TC music and the same kind of programs,’ Kraatz said. ‘They pick that slow, sad music. It seems like all they have to do different is change the expression on their faces.’” (x)
“Grishuk said at a competition last December that she could learn Bourne and Kraatz's Riverdance routine in a single day. ‘Why don't they try?’ Kraatz huffed. Then he ripped the Russians, saying they choose the ‘same, sad, slow’ music each year. ‘You just have to look very sad,’ Bourne said.” (x)
The Canadian federation accused the Russian, French, and Italian federations of making judging deals:
“The Canadian skating federation has accused the Russian, French and Italian judges of deal-making in order to prop up their own skaters.
Grishuk said that those who complain about the judging are ‘weak.’” (x)
After the compulsory dances, Dubova claimed the Olympics was rigged against Bourne/Kraatz in favor of the French and Russians:
“‘It's a joke,’ Dubova said. ‘I don't know what else to call it. The judges had a lot of time in Milan, at the European championships [in January], to discuss what to do here, to discuss how beautiful the Russians and the French are skating, to decide who must be on the podium.’
‘They think they need to put us down to make sure they have a third place to give. I saw this from the Russian judge. I saw this from the French judge. I knew they would do this.’
Dubova, who once coached Grishuk and Platov, was asked if she believed the competition was rigged.
‘Oh yes, oh yes,’ she replied. ‘They did this all before the competition. . . . It was prepared before by the Russians and the French.’
Dubova's eyes were red as she spoke emotionally about Friday's judging, visibly upset over the fifth-place score Bourne and Kraatz received for their first compulsory dance, the Golden Waltz.
Bourne's voice, too, cracked as she railed against the judging.
‘I'm a little disappointed, but I also expected that this could happen,’ Bourne said. ‘It's frustrating because it's out of our control. It has nothing to do with how we skate this week--it has to do with what goes on outside the sport. It's out of our hands, so far beyond our control.’
‘I think you saw all the mistakes,’ Dubova told reporters. ‘That was almost foul, what Grishuk and Platov did. The other Russians, they did not skate close together, and same with the French. The first partner was much faster--they could not hold the same speed.’
‘I can tell you Bourne and Kraatz had the [most complex] program, skated the closest to the other partner, had equal speed and had great positioning. . . .’
‘But the judges, they so wanted to show that North Americans cannot have more than the bronze medal. They know North America has many good skaters now, and they want to keep them down. I think Punsalan-Swallow is a very good couple. I think the second Canadian couple [Chantal Lefebvre and Michel Brunet] should not be 19th--they should be higher than that.’
‘I don't know what to tell our skaters.’
‘We need to explain what they are doing to us,’ Dubova said. ‘We are not happy with the bronze medal. We are ready to fight for gold.’” (x)
Gwendal Peizerat said there was no deal between the Russians and French:
“‘All this political stuff with the Russians is not our stuff,’ Peizerat said. ‘Our stuff is the skating side. We are really out of the political side.’
‘At Munich [at the Champions Series Final in December], we won four judges to five for the Canadians. Every competition is close. That's what happened tonight.’” (x)
On the night of the 1998 Olympics free dance, Grishuk wrote this:
“Torvill and Dean’s Bolero in 1984 was the best ever, but I think you’ll all like our Memoriam tonight. It is about artists, many of them skaters, who lost their lives in recent years. It is very moving. Evgeny and I get along well most of the time. He says I am half crazy and that I drive him full crazy. Maybe that’s why he hit me with a hockey stick once.
I thought about filing for a restraining order against him, but somebody, probably our coach, pointed out that we might have trouble practicing together if he had to stay 100 yards away from me at all times.” (x)
Grishuk claimed Platov hit her with a hockey stick and she almost filed a restraining order against him. Apparently she has also said Platov beat her all 10 years they skated together and she called the cops on him claiming he beat her, but then they found she just had a minor lip wound and all the witnesses at the rink said he accidentally pushed her and she fell on the ice.
Grishuk/Platov won the 1998 Olympics in February. Krylova/Ovysannikov won silver. Anissina/Peizerat won bronze. Bourne/Kraatz came in 4th place.
On the podium when they got the gold medal, Platov said that Grishuk told him he was only responsible for 20% of their success. He says it in “The Dark Side of Skating: Maia, Evgeny, Pasha, & Sasha”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w227JiWLImM
After Grishuk/Platov won gold, silver medalist Krylova said that she thinks the public liked Krylova/Ovysannikov better:
“All I can say is the public liked us better. I think we had a better program overall.” (x)
4th place finisher, Shae-Lynn Bourne, thought the results were a joke:
“‘I think we skated like champions tonight. . . . I really believe we could have been at the top.’
‘The Olympics are all about survival of the fittest. It's about true games and sport,’ Bourne said. ‘That's not what ice dancing is right now. It's all about off the ice.’
Bourne and Kraatz were assigned fourth place after Friday's compulsory dances, and remained there through Sunday's original dance and Monday's free dance competitions--even though the judges rated their free dance superior to bronze medalists Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat, by a vote of 5-4.
Bourne and Kraatz dressed in green and white for their free dance, instead of traditional Canadian red, possibly in an attempt to fool the judges. They performed to ‘Riverdance’--or, as one rinkside reporter quipped, ‘The Judges Sold Us Down the Riverdance.’
‘It's funny,’ Bourne said. ‘You would think I'd be real upset, but I don't feel awful at all. . . . I look at it as more of a joke than anything. You've just got to look at it, laugh at it and get past it.’
Can anything be done to alter the system?
‘We're talking about it. That's all we can do,’ Bourne said.
‘People now know a little more about what's going on. The media are talking about it, the skaters are talking about it. It's like an explosion about to happen.’
‘It's coming to head. Maybe it will bust wide open and bring about a change.’” (x)
Dubova trashed her former pupils, Grishuk/Platov, saying they regressed without her and can’t do what her current pupils Bourne/Kraatz can:
“Natalia Dubova, former coach of Grishuk and Platov, currently employed to train Bourne and her partner, Victor Kraatz: ‘All of us remember what [Jayne] Torvill and [Christopher] Dean did to improve our sport, how many steps they brought up the sport. I always ask myself, ‘What have Grishuk and Platov done for the sport?’ For me, they don't bring the sport up.’
And more from Dubova: ‘Grishuk and Platov, I teach them so many things, and they don't use any of it. I teach them for so many years, and they can do so much more. What they have now, is just a funny program.’
And more from Dubova still: ‘They have not improved, they are just more experienced. They are tired. They cannot do this work that Bourne and Kraatz do, they can only do these simple things.’
‘Grishuk and Platov, their music must be much louder and stronger. They need the music to help them. Bourne and Kraatz, the music and the skating are together, like a package.’
Even long-time coach Dubova concedes that ‘Ice dancing is not a sport. Something must be done. It's impossible anymore. When five of them are from the East bloc, it is easy for them to work together.’” (x)
Grishuk said that she believes they have pushed the sport:
“‘We brought the sport back,’ Grishuk said. ‘We did it. When people were saying the ice dancing does not belong in the Olympics, that it is not a sport, that it is like ballroom dancing, we tried to improve the sport and make it look very interesting, very exciting and difficult. . . .’
‘In my opinion, and in the opinion of a lot of people who were telling us this, we really developed the sport and make it look like a real sport. We brought a lot of new movements into ice dancing, things nobody else ever did before.’
‘We make the sport happen, and we make the sport continue.’” (x)
In 2012, Grishuk said she actually considered going for another Olympics, but she knew Platov’s knees wouldn’t be able to handle it, so she retired from amateur skating:
“They won countless Grand Prix events, four World Championships, three European titles and two Olympics. She considered another Olympic run but retired knowing Platov’s knees couldn’t hold up for another four-year cycle.
‘I felt thankful and blessed that he agreed (to compete through 1998) and that I was able to do the most passionate thing in my life,’ she said. ‘We were considered an ‘unbeatable’ team.’” (x)
After 1998 Worlds in March, Navka and Morozov ended their partnership. Morozov tried skating with another partner for 3 months, but retired. He became an assistant coach to Tatiana Tarasova.
In professional skating, there was a partner swap. The new partnerships were Usova/Platov and Grishuk/Zhulin.
Grishuk claims Platov dumped her in the summer with no explanation:
“Evgeny? That's a different story. I suspected there were problems, like the time he hit me with a hockey stick. But I thought we would be a team forever. Then he dumped me this summer with no explanation. Maybe it's like he used to say, that I am half crazy and that I drive him full crazy.” (x)
According to Elena Vaitsehovskaya’s book, Platov dumped Grishuk for Usova because he found out that Grishuk was just using him in ice shows, so that she could have a big Hollywood career. Grishuk has said multiple times that she wanted to break into Hollywood and win an Oscar. John Frankenheimer actually wrote a part for her in “Ronin”, a Robert DeNiro movie, but she couldn’t do it because of the 1998 Olympics, so it went to Katarina Witt instead. Grishuk was supposed to play a figure skater who is the girlfriend of a Russian mobster and is shot to death on the ice.
Platov in “The Dark Side of Skating” also said that he was so happy when Grishuk and Zhulin teamed up because it was his chance to get revenge.
Usova/Platov beat Grishuk/Zhulin to win the 1998 World Professional Championships.
Usova said that Zhulin beat her all 18 years they skated together and that when she made a mistake while skating with Platov she would always panic and prepare to be hit, but Platov was so nice and kind to her.
Platov was IN LOVE with Usova. Look what he said about her in 1999:
"Maia was an amazing partner - hardworking and most importantly not scandalous since I sure had enough with Grishuk. I was very flattered to have besides me not only famous and talented but beautiful woman. Maia is one of the most feminine and graceful skaters. Time (as in age) can’t do anything to her.”
Usova said Platov was in love with her and TAT (TAT coached her and Platov in professional skating) and her mom wanted her to date Platov, but she could never fall in love with Platov no matter how hard she tried.
In a 2009 interview, Usova said that she should have ended her partnership with Zhulin and teamed up with Platov in amateur skating:
“After you and Alexander Zhulin finished skating as amateurs, I often thought that your career was very cruel, so to speak. You worked toward that Olympic gold medal for so long, you sacrificed so much to it – and then you lost. How do you look at it?
I certainly don’t consider it senseless. I’ve been thinking lately about how everything the person goes through is predetermined from above. Sasha and I are still remembered, loved, and I am often reassured that in many people’s thinking our sports rating is far higher than some of those have become Olympic champions. The only mistake, and it is purely my mistake, was remaining with my partner after our family fell apart. It could have all been different then…
What do you mean?
My career. I should not have held on to my relationship with Zhulin. I should have partnered with Platov there and then. At one time, our coach Natalya Dubova threw Oksana Gritschuk out of her group precisely for personal reasons. Dubova really loved me, and wanted to thus clear my and Zhulin’s path to medals, so to speak. I just didn’t find the strength to tell my coach that it wasn’t about Gritschuk, but about the relationship that has become unbearable for me. However, after what Dubova did, I just couldn’t stab her in the back by quitting the team. Had I done it, though, it is entirely possible that Platov and I could have had our results in the amateur sport, not in the professional which we ultimately did.” (x)
Platov has said that he suspected Grishuk was mentally ill because she had a paranoia that everyone wants to hurt her and during one of her panic attacks the only way to get sense into her was to shake her shoulders with might and she picked his leg with her skates, so he has holes in his training pants because of this.
Navka teamed up with Roman Kostomarov. They were coached by Linichuk and competed together during the 1998-1999 season. After placing 12th at the 1999 World Championships, Linichuk dissolved the team and paired Kostomarov with Anna Semenovich.
Linichuk actually claimed in an interview after 2003 Worlds that she had to work hard to convince Kostomarov to agree to partner with Navka:
Q: Your former students Tatyana Navka and Roman Kostomarov are progressing, they took second at the Grand Prix Final and nearly bronze at worlds. Are you surprised?
A: “When I created this pair, Roman was categorically opposed to skating with Tanya. He thought he neated a more lively, quick partner and a bit smaller in size. It was so much labor to convince him. It seems, I didn’t try for nothing.” (x)
Krylova/Ovsyannikov win 1999 Worlds. They planned to compete the next season and even had programs and costumes prepared, but doctors advised Krylova to retire due to a risk of paralysis stemming from her back problems. Krylova suggested Ovsyannikov team up with another skater, so he could still compete, but he declined. After a year Krylova grew more confident and they competed in professional skating, since it was less demanding on the body.
Zhulin went back to Grishuk briefly before getting married to Navka in 2000.
Navka and Zhulin’s daughter Sasha was born in May 2000. Navka took the year off from competition.
In mid-2000, Kostomarov called Navka and asked to skate with her again. She agreed and the were coached by her husband, Zhulin.
Bourne/Kraatz changed coaches from Dubova to Tatiana Tarasova and Nikolai Morozov in 2000.
Dubova, who previously trashed Anissina/Peizerat back when they were her former pupils’ Bourne/Kraatz’s rivals, became a consultant and choreographer for Anissina/Peizerat during the 2001-2002 season.
Marina Anissina/Gwendal Peizerat win the 2002 Olympics, coached by Muriel Zazoui and choreographed by Natalia Dubova and then retire from amateur skating. Ilia Averbukh, Anissina’s former partner, and Irina Lobacheva, coached by Natalia Linichuk, win silver. Barbara Fusar-Poli/Maurizio Margaglio, coached by Paola Mezzadri, win bronze. Shae-Lynn Bourne/Victor Kraatz, coached by Tatiana Tarasova and Nikolai Morozov come in 4th.
Usova and Platov were assistant coaches to Tatiana Tarasova from 2002-2004.
Linichuk said in an interview that she believed Lobacheva/Averbukh should have won 2003 Worlds and that Bourne/Kraatz won because the judges pitied them for competing so long, but never becoming champions:
Q: Natalya, what do you think of the new system in which 5 judges of fourteen are absolutely not included and the judges give their marks anonymously?
A: “I’ve noticed that the judges’ posture is better, they are not afraid to show their opinion. Maybe this system isn’t ideal, but it’s working. Before the worlds, nothing criminal happened. But in Washington, a portion of the judges gave Bourne and Kraatz a gift for long patience. These skaters were in the world elite for many years, but were never champions. SO they pitied them. By the way, if you add all 14 marks, Lobacheva and Averbukh would have been first. I think their free dance in rock and roll style looked more winning.” (x)
In the same interview, Linichuk also said that she had repaired her relationship with Grishuk who was once again Oksana instead of Pasha:
Q: Do you associate with Oksana Grishuk anymore?
A: “Why not? She had a daughter recently, she calls about every three weeks from Los Angeles. She sent pictures of her daughter, Grace Skyler. The baby has SUCH cheeks! Oksana says she is happy. She wanted to try herself out in Hollywood, but that didn’t turn out so far. By the way you’re right, now she’s not Pasha but Oksana. As before. She thought up Pasha for Hollywood.”
Q: They said you sued her for money. What happened? Did she pay you?
A: “According to our contract, a portion of the prize money for Grishuk and Platov was to go to us as payment. IN America you don’t have to stamp it – just signatures of both parites is enough. When Grishuk and Platov went to Tarasova, they forgot us.”
Q: And after that you still associate with them!
A: “Of course, it’s unpleasant to sue your students, but… I know Oksana since she was 12, Zhenya a bit less. There is so much connected with them. They left me for Dubova, then returned. I made them the best pair in the world. You never forget the best. Recently Platov decided to be a coach – he works with the Israelis Galit Chait and Sergei Sakhonovski. Zhenya came up to me, asked for advice. I see that he was listening to my recommendations.” (x)
Bourne/Kraatz win the 2003 World Championships with Morozov as their sole coach, since Morozov had left TAT to coach and choreograph on his own. Shae-Lynn Bourne was dating Nikolai Morozov and they got married in 2005 and divorced in 2007. Shae-Lynn and Victor fell out because Shae-Lynn wanted to do show skating, but Victor still wanted to be a competitive skater. Shae-Lynn started doing ice shows by herself. They didn’t reconnect until 2008.
In the fall of 2005, Platov joined Zhulin as a coach at Floyd Hall in New Jersey. They coached Navka/Kostomarov to the 2006 Olympic gold medal:
“‘This is why we have teamed up,’ Platov said of his professional relationship with Zhulin. ‘We want to start an ice-dancing school here that will bring attention all over the world. We are very well known and among the most decorated people in the world because of our winnings in the Olympics and in the World Championships. We will organize a school, one of the greatest dance schools in the world.’” (x)
Zhulin said of the coaching partnership:
“‘I work alone,’ said Zhulin, ‘and I never collaborate because I like to feel responsible for everything.’ At least until Platov came calling.
‘When Evgeni first approached, I was hesitant. I said, ‘Okay, we'll give it a few weeks and see how it goes. Amazingly, we worked perfectly together. Such good work, and no arguments. He is, after all, one of the best technical skaters in the world - that's why I lost the Olympics to him.’
Zhulin says he believes if the situation had been reversed, ‘Evgeni would have done the same for me. It's about respect, and we have that respect for each other.’” (x)
After 2006, Platov coached on his own in New Jersey and Zhulin moved back to Russia to coach.

Im Russian and pregnancy was my first thought as well only because she was here here actually only 5 months and the engagement happened (she was gone for a month because of visa). Im not going to say she tricked a pregnancy out of him to stay or tie herself to him but I wouldn’t put it past my people. My mom did that. She came here on a visa and got pregnant with me by tricking my father about the pill. My parents joke about it now but im just showing you the reality( btw not condoning i think its wrong and completely is a violation of consent and of the mans autonomy) But, then again maybe its not pregnancy and its as simple as Pyotr not being able to find a long-term girlfriend here that he could eventually marry, because he speaks really weak English and he still can hardly understand it even after all the years he’s been here. And Andrei said it himself, Pyotr doesn’t want to put effort to learn even when they’re out Peter still talks to him in Russian. It’s so really looking like a relationship of convenience. He’s a man after all, he is gonna get lonely especially at his age. He already knew her from the past, so if he wanted someone to wait at home when he’s off and to tend to his house, I mean it makes sense to just get engaged so he can stop worrying about being on the hunt for hookups like he normally is. Maybe that’s why he still messing around and has not acknowledged her or posted her on his feed at all because it’s not what he wants but it’s what makes sense and it’s what is convenient.
This makes sense to and I agree
