------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Someone needs to tell Joshua that whatever he is seeing is wrong, that it’s not your form that is dancing with the man so closely on the floor.
It has been almost a year since he last saw you and he never thought that this is how the reunion with you would happen. But what rights does he have to stop you from dancing with this man you are enamored with, so enamored that you can barely shift your eyes away from him.
He thinks back to the time when it was him holding you that close, twirling you around the ballroom and hearing your beautiful laughs and talking to you in hushed whispers about some gossip he heard while playing poker with the other dukes.
Listening to you laugh when recounted an exceptionally funny story from his recent trip.
He thinks about all the nights he spent with you lying on a haystack at the back of his stable, smoking a cigar and talking about life and even though it was not the most ideal place to have heartfelt conversations, you both somehow made it work.
As he looks you, he notices how you at Jeonghan like he arranged in the stars in the night sky for you, like all the galaxy you hold your eyes were just stars burning with love for the man. He realizes that one year is indeed a long time, and a whole lot has changed in just a mere span of 365 days.
It took him just one afternoon to confess that he never loved you, that you were merely a fascination to him due to the off-limits nature of your relationship. It took him just one afternoon to throw away all those nights of laughter, all the evenings of passionate love making behind the theater while his friends were busy indulging in the new melodious shows with their betrothed or wives.
The thought of losing his status of as the nonchalant Casanova was too much for his foolish boyish mind to accept so he did what he was the best at he fled from the conflict. Never the one to think about consequences, or even about anyone but him, he could never fathom the great pain he caused you by leading you on and not only jeopardizing your probable engagement with other potential suitors but also make you the butt of all the apathetic gossip of the older women.
The minute he felt the presence of something brewing between the two of you that felt like it had deeper meanings than what he is accustomed to, he boarded on the first ship to Caribbean, to be as far away for you as he physically can. Only he never underestimated how strong the brewed feeling actually were.
Not one day went on his voyage when he did not think of you, even when he tried his very best to put the you named thought out of his head. Nights of intoxication and passion became a norm for him during his trip and new destinations and people kept him busy.
But still as he looked out of his cabin at the dusky setting sun, he felt the innate need to hold you close to him, to hear you voice calling out to him while he is beneath you making you feel levels of bliss you didn’t know you were capable of experiencing.
So, when he hopped off that ship on the coast of England the only name that echoed in his mind was yours. He knew he had made a mistake, but he had hoped that you would let it slide, that you would take him back into your loving arms like you always did.
But it seems like faith was reluctant to give him a second chance as he noticed you in the first ball of the season and realized that you had been successfully swept off your feet by someone else who was not him. As much as he would have loved to fight for you, he realized he had lost the battle even before it started, when he had left you stranding alone in the park with your bloodied torn heart on the palm of your hand and the emotions slowly bleeding out of your eyes.
Maybe he would have tried to jeopardize your relationship with Jeonghan, if not for the fact the man went ahead and collected all the pieces of your heart and sewed them together for you and filled those eyes that he hollowed out with the most beautiful galaxy that Joshua had ever seen.
Maybe if he had more courage, he would have tried to get you back but he doesn’t so he will stand here and toast you both and make sure his eyes don’t show too much emotions for he still has the reputation of a rake to hold up and rakes don’t cry.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/n; again i hope you guys liked it.

Everything I read in 2024!
Hey folks. Last year I made a resolution to get back into reading and to do it consistently! I'm happy to report that I've been going strong and ended up putting a total of 31 books under my belt (excluding any continuing volumes from any manga series that I've been going through!) 🎉
I had a great time and was quite happy with most of the books I finished! And a HUGE shout out to my local library and their hold/transfer system!
Below, I've put the text version of these images as well as some additional thoughts I have for your reading pleasure. These aren't intended to be thorough reviews, but hopefully you can take something away from this and maybe even add some of these titles to your TBR! Feel free to also leave your thoughts on the books you've also read! Thanks!
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia Finished: January 9 Genre(s): Gothic Horror, Historical 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: 1950s Mexico, a chic socialite is sent to a decaying mansion to rescue her cousin from the English family she married into, only to uncover haunting supernatural secrets. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
What a way to start the year. This book rocked! It was so atmospheric and spooky while also leaning into some themes of colonialism to add to the creepiness. SMG is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and this was a great entry point.
Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez Finished: February 12 Genre(s): Romance, Magical Realism ✅Owned 🔲Borrowed Summary: The enduring, unrequited love of Florentino and Fermina, spanning over fifty years and surviving marriages, affairs, and the ravages of time. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
I've been meaning to read this book since, like, the 8th grade but never could get through it. Maybe that was for the best, since GGM's exploration on love are contradictory and even cruel, which surely would have been confusing for fourteen-year-old me who was still grappling with her first crushes. I read the translated version in this beautifully illustrated edition, though I've been thinking about exploring the original Spanish version at some point so I can fully immerse myself in some of the lost-in-translation humor present throughout the novel.
How Much of These Hills is Gold by C. Pam Zhang Finished: March 7 Genre(s): Western, Drama 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Two Chinese-American siblings’ journey through the Gold Rush-era West, and their own pasts, following their father’s death. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
This book was punch in the gut, and just when you're recovering and getting back on your feet, it punches you again. The imagery in this really sticks with you, even ten months later, I'm still thinking about buffalo bones in the hills of California and tigers lurking out in gold country.
The Mermaid of Black Conch by Monique Roffey Finished: March 17 Genre(s): Magical Realism 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: A fisherman rescues a cursed mermaid from capture, leading to a transformative love story set in a Caribbean village. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
You might've noticed by now that I enjoy magical realism. I like when stories push the inexplicable and unpredictability found in nature and human histories before it turns into outright fantasy. Plus, there's a mermaid.
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang Finished: March 31 Genre(s): Fantasy, Grimdark 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Rin beats the odds and enlists in an elite military academy, where she discovers shamanic powers and is thrust into a brutal war. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
I had a lot of fun with this one, despite some of the more gruesome scenes in the third act. There were times where it felt a little YA, what with the school setting and a bit of the Young Avengers-esque group that she ends up joining in the middle, but that feeling is quickly shaken off as the story proceeds. 🙃
Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya Finished: April 13 Genre(s): Coming-of-age, Historical 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Coming of age story that feels like a Ghibli movie, set in postwar New Mexico. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕
I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did, but wow. I'm not kidding with my short little summary, the setting here feels so rich and of course, there's some magical realism in this one as well. I think there's already a movie adaptation but I genuinely think this would work as a slow-paced, 2-D animated film. It was cool to get into what from my understanding is classic Chicane literature.
Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia Finished: April 23 Genre(s): Fantasy, Historical 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Road trip adventure through Mexico with a god of death as he seeks to recover his throne. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Another SMG banger, this fits in along with Percy Jackson in the genre of "mortals go on a road trip quest at the behest of ancient gods." Highly enjoyable, with some cool and creative imagery, though the ending really made the whole thing for me.
Outlawed by Anna North Finished: April 30 Genre(s): Western, Action/Adventure ✅Owned 🔲Borrowed Summary: A fugitive midwife joins a band of unusual outlaws, fighting for survival in a world that condemns barren women. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
Entertaining, though I think the author could've done something cooler with the group of queer, PoC outlaws. I was a bit unsatisfied with the ending.
Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas Finished: May 14 Genre(s): Romance, Western, Supernatural 🔲 Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Cowboys face off vampires as two childhood friends reunite and rekindle their childhood love against the backdrop of the Mexican-American war. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Going in, I thought this would be heavy on the horror and the action of vaqueros vs vampires. But this is primarily a romance, especially in the first half. A lot of people seem to really like the romance; there's some yearning going on and the male lead is quite sweet. I, on the other hand, had some trouble getting into it, mainly because the main conflict in said romance falls victim to the dreaded miscommunication trope. You're telling me he thought she was dead for nine years but at the same time was exchanging letters with her brother and she was never mentioned, not even in passing? I liked the last half of the book much better. The vampires are quite creative, and there's a particularly gruesome and vivid scene of a vampire feeding by a river that has really stuck with me.
A Ballad of Love and Glory by Reyna Grande Finished: May 27 Genre(s): Romance, Historical 🔲 Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: A curandera and an Irish defect from the Yankee Army come together and must fight for their survival, and then their love, amidst the U.S’ invasion of Mexico. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
Shout out again to my public library, because I randomly picked this up and wasn't expecting to find this hidden gem. I mentioned that I had some trouble with the previous book and the romance in it, because THIS. NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL YEARNING. This book had me writing down quotes and excerpts, which I almost never do! John Riley, my beloved... Additionally, the Mexican-American War isn't a topic that's really touched on in English-language fiction, but now I've read two books back-to-back that feature it. Honestly, it makes me happy that that piece of history is getting more visibility in the mainstream.
The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang Finished: June 9 Genre(s): Fantasy, Grimdark 🔲 Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: As she runs from the atrocity that she committed, Rin and her friends are dragged into a civil war. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
I'm happy to report that I liked the sequel better than the first book, which is saying a lot since The Poppy War had a lot going for it already. We get some more exploration of characters and their dynamics, and the action gets pretty crazy at times.
Galatea by Madeline Miller Finished: June 10 Genre(s): Myth Retelling, Short Story 🔲 Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Locked away by her husband and creator, Pygmalion, Galatea ruminates on how to free herself and her daughter. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
This story may be short (it's only about 50 pages printed on small paper) but it's concise in its message. Like, obviously the relationship between a sculptor who doesn't like real-life women and his creation wouldn't go on to be particularly healthy and happy.
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (Deluxe Edition) Vol.1 by Hitoshi Ashinano Finished: June 13 Genre(s): Slice-Of-Life, Sci-Fi 🔲 Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: An android witnesses the slow twilight of humanity from her quaint little coffee shop overlooking the ocean. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Nothing really happens in this manga, but that's okay. It reminds you to slow down and enjoy the scenery around you, even as the world is slowly falling apart. There's beauty even in destruction.
Alice’s Trading Post by Kerry Dean Feldman Finished: July 3 Genre(s): Historical 🔲 Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: A young woman, half white and half Native, fights to survive in the changing West. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Another random library find. I don't know how I would have heard about it otherwise since it's not very popular and the publisher is very small. Though I don't think the author is Native himself, the book feels very well researched and you feel quite connected to the Native characters and their experiences.
Woman of Light by Kali Fajardo-Anstine Finished: July 11 Genre(s): Historical, Magical Realism 🔲 Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: A poetic multi-generational story driven by Luz, set in 1930s Denver after her brother is driven out by a white mob. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
I really enjoyed this book while I was reading it, though I don't remember very much of the plot now. I still think it's an interesting premise and that the overall messaging regarding the existence of Indigenous/Latine families in the history of the United States is worth internalizing.
Dead Man’s Hand Edited by John Joseph Adams Finished: July 24 Genre(s): Western, Short Stories, Fantasy, Sci-Fi ✅ Owned 🔲 Borrowed Summary: A collection of short stories about the “Weird” West. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
My first anthology of last year! This is a fun one, as someone who's a fan of Westerns. The variety in its stories is both a strength and weakness for this book; some stories I really liked and have stuck with me, some stories I really didn't like. In the end, the premise of a Weird West anthology is still very cool. If anyone has any other recs in the genre, let me know!
Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia Finished: August 12 Genre(s): Thriller, Noir, Historical 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: The search for a missing student amidst the political turmoils of 1970s Mexico City from the perspectives of a daydreaming secretary and a thug working from the shadows. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
I read most of this on a flight, and boy, it really pulled me in. As with any good mystery thriller, there's a lot of moving parts and parties of interest that are all handled pretty effectively in my humble opinion. On top of that, the fact that neither of the protagonists are perfect people, much less perfect heroes, allows for nuances in character motives and contributes to how the ending plays out.
The Burning God by R.F. Kuang Finished: August 31 Genre(s): Fantasy, Grimdark 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: The brutal and stunning conclusion to the Poppy War trilogy, Rin must lead the Southern Army to take back her country from those who betrayed her. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕
Wow, what a way to end a trilogy. Personally, I think it's the strongest in the series. It was fun to witness the protagonist grow and develop and eventually spiral down the path of an antihero.
Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan Finished: September 10 Genre(s): Fantasy, Romance 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Inspired by the Chinese legend of Chang’e, a young immortal girl embarks on a quest in the unfamiliar Celestial Kingdom to free her mother, the Moon Goddess, and return home. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
First off, the writing and the imagery in this book is so beautiful. The world is detailed and exquisite but at the same time feels like walking through a dream. The romance also felt quite sweet, though it quickly becomes a corny love triangle which I couldn't help but roll my eyes at. Take what you will from that.
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien Finished: September 30 Genre(s): Fantasy, Adventure ✅Owned 🔲Borrowed Summary: The first part of The Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins must leave his home in the Shire and journey to the Cracks of Doom to destroy the One Ring and foil the Dark Lord’s rise to power. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
It is time to become the annoying little Tolkien nerd I was always meant to be. Another classic book that I tried to read in middle school but had failed in the process, even though I'd just finished The Hobbit that year. Aside from this being required reading for fans of fantasy, there are so many funny little things that occur in the book that you don't see talked about very much: Gandalf's little -isms, the whole reason why Legolas was in Rivendell in the first place, and Tom Bombadil was...there.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller Finished: October 09 Genre(s): Myth Retelling, Fantasy, Romance 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: After growing up and training together, Patroclus follows his beloved Achilles to war. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
Reading Madeline Miller feels like I'm drinking wine and eating off the finest charcuterie board. One thing I like about Miller's Greek retellings is that she takes these figures from myth and makes them feel human. They go through highs and lows, with small yet intimate moments scattered between them. It's those intimate moments where I really appreciate her skills as a writer.
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao Finished: October 19 Genre(s): YA Sci-Fi 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: In a distant future where giant mechas are powered by sacrificing female “concubine-pilots”, Zetian becomes the Iron Widow. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
This one was fun. I do love reading a righteously angry protagonist as she steadily builds up her power. This book felt very anime in both its premise and execution, which makes sense considering mecha anime was a very clear influence on the story.
Babel by R.F. Kuang Finished: October 30 Genre(s): Fantasy, Historical, Dark Academia 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: In an alternate history, Oxford translators become student revolutionaries against the exploitations of the British Empire. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
For little nerds who are into magic systems that are based on words and language, this was great. Very atmospheric in the first half, this book really takes the time to immerse you in just total Oxford. The latter half then proceeds to break the spell, literally dropping my jaw at certain points. Not my favorite Kuang book of the year, but still compelling nonetheless.
They Dance in the Sky by Jean Guard Monroe & Ray A. Williamson Finished: November 02 Genre(s): Folklore, Anthology 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: A collection of legends about the stars from various American Indigenous cultures. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
A short collection of stories that I also found at the library, this was just cool to pick up every once in a while and learn about folktales that were new to me.
Never Whistle At Night Edited by Shane Hawk & Theodore C. Van Alst Jr. Finished: November 10 Genre(s): Horror, Short Stories ✅Owned 🔲Borrowed Summary: A horror story anthology featuring Indigenous authors, drawing from Native beliefs, folklore, and lived experiences. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
This is a highly polished anthology that is consistent in the quality of its stories. The imagery in here is powerful, as are the themes. The horror aspect feels unique to contemporary Native cultures, which can be found in the nuances in the featured horror tropes such as possession, doppelgangers, ghosts and spirits, body horror, and the stranded trope, just to name a few.
The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia Finished: November 17 Genre(s): Historical, Sci-Fi ✅Owned 🔲Borrowed Summary: Late-1800s Yucatán, Carlota’s sheltered, idyllic life shared with her father’s hybrid experiments is upended by external forces. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
It's not often that I read historical sci-fi, but I found myself really liking the setting. I think the choice of changing the Island of Dr. Moreau from a literal island in SE Asia to an isolated hacienda in the Yucatán peninsula was fun. The plot is straightforward, which is okay, sometimes you need a simple plot amid all the messiness of the world. If I were to describe the romance in this book, I believe I once mentioned to a friend that the main pairing were very "Milly/Wolfwood-coded."
The Volcano Daughters by Gina María Balibrera Finished: November 24 Genre(s): Historical, Magical Realism 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Narrated by the spirits of their childhood friends, two sisters’ lives are forever changed by the dictatorial regime in El Salvador. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
More magical realism for me! The beginning really sucked me in, I thought I was in for something special. I often enjoy disembodied, ghostly narrators, and most of the story revolved around a piece of Salvadorian history that I was not that aware of. However, there were too many times where I thought the main leads were too passive in their actions. It prevented me from caring about them and their development, which is really the only thing holding me back from giving this 5 stars.
The Princess and the Scoundrel by Beth Revis Finished: December 2 Genre(s): Romance, Sci-Fi, Fantasy 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Leia and Han spend their honeymoon aboard a luxury cruiseliner, but discover Imperial remnants still clinging to power. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Baby's first Star Wars novel! This feels like a very fitting story to tell directly after Return of the Jedi, though it was very funny to read about the now defunct Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser that was featured in this novel now that I know what happened to it (shout out to Jenny Nicholson and her video on the failure of Star Wars Hotel.) Han and Leia are cute tho.
The Sun and the Void by Gabriela Romero Lacruz Finished: December 12 Genre(s): Fantasy 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: The paths of two women, marginalized by society yet desperate with ambition, converge in a quest to invoke a dark god. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Featuring a sapphic romance that I actually enjoyed! Now, not to be that person that compares every sapphic romance to Revolutionary Girl Utena, but just like in Utena, every character has baggage and there's drama and I love the messiness. A book with some good ol' fantasy questing, even if I wasn't a huge fan of the magic system (idk, I guess I just didn't find it very interesting.)
Anita De Monte Laughs Last by Xochitl Gonzalez Finished: December 21 Genre(s): Historical, Literary Fiction 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: A first generation Ivy League student unearths the works of a forgotten Cuban artist who was murdered just thirteen years earlier by her husband. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
This book felt like I was back in my Intersectional Feminist Art Histories class, but in a good way. I saw some people irked by the fact that despite the premise of this book being loosely based on the life, death, and legacy of Ana Mendieta, there wasn't enough acknowledgment of Mendieta herself, nor did it seem like her family was directly involved in the making of it. Whether or not that prevents you from picking up the book is up to you. Personally, it did not detract from a well crafted story and exploration on art and who decides what counts as art worth remembering.
Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty Finished: December 30 Genre(s): Short Stories, Contemporary 🔲Owned ✅Borrowed Summary: Set in an Indigenous community in Maine, a collection of vignettes centers a young protagonist and his family’s unravelment. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
This was solid, and totally not what I was expecting going in. It's a collection of connected stories that are not told chronologically, but I think that's what contributes to making the bigger story feel grounded and real. There are no set endings in life, certain events just lead into others and you have no choice but to keep going. People that you once thought were going to be in your life forever are suddenly nowhere to be found, but you can't spend every waking moment pondering that. Some of the stories resonated with me more than others, but that's just life, ain't it?
If you made it this far, thanks again! Take care of yourself in 2025.

Author’s note: Hoist the Colors may eventually inspire fiction. Most likely will and I’ll gladly write it. But right now, it’s a role-playing game setting with what I hope is an interesting take and look at an “Alternate History” of Earth. It isn’t really “steampunk”, though I can see how someone would get that impression. For me, it’s more a “gaslamp fantasy” set on Earth of 1722 in all it’s historical mess… that I’ve stirred up even more!
So, with that said, I thought I’d cover the playable species and cultures players will have to choose from. Starting with the Thayans. So if you’re interested in worldbuilding for a setting, enjoy!
Thayans
They’re a people of magic, mystery and determination.
Professor Isolde Trelawny, Historian at the Royal Institute of Otherworld Studies
Thayans are one of the many species that appeared after the Crossing’s Fall disaster. A charismatic folk of tight-knit communities, they hail from Afalon Isle in the mid-Atlantic, southwest of the Azores. The same island that crashed to Earth after the Otherworld shattered.
At first, they remained hidden, but not for long. Thayans, or ‘pixies’, were the first Otherworld survivors to make themselves known to the world. They were also the first to be displaced by the Mid-Atlantic War that erupted after Afalon’s arrival.
Thayan refugees fled the war and scattered to far lands. Some settled in Ireland, others in the Caribbean. Some landed on the North American shores of the League of Nations. A determined few refused to leave their island home and rebuilt towns on northern Afalon. Some looked to rebuild their lost civilization. Others turned to immigrating into human nations to start over.
All But Human
Just remember, they’re stronger than they look.
Professor Isolde Trelawny, Historian at the Royal Institute of Otherworld Studies
At a glance, it’s easy to mistake them as human. They look human in many ways with a human-like face and body. In comparison, the typical thaye is only slightly shorter than a human. Thayans average about four inches shorter than most humans and have a thinner build.
Their hair color is like anyone else from black to brown, blond to red. Also, their hair does turn gray as they age. In the face, they look every bit human, but their eyes are a different story. Thayan eye color spans any color imaginable. Some are human colors of amber, green, brown or gray. But red, copper, gold, and even jade are not unheard of. Thayan males also have facial hair. Beards are often neatly trimmed affairs among the men.
As for complexion, that is no different than the average human. Which is quite a surprise given thayan blood is green instead of red. Their ears however are another story. Thayan ears are slightly pointed with the traditional faerie point. But the shape is not that pronounced and easy to overlook.
Out of all their similarities and differences, the one feature that sets them apart are their wings. Thayans possess delicate, yet durable, dragonfly-like wings that let them fly. Most assume that thayans possess hollow bones, like a bird. This is just not true. Thayan bones are lighter than a humans but still just as strong. Their bones and wings are strong enough to let a thayan carry themselves, a backpack, and even a human with them in flight. This is a startling surprise given their thinner stature.
Their wings have another characteristic and that’s a yellow-gold dust they shed in small amounts. Humans call this ‘pixie dust’ while thayans refer to it as ‘mana dust’. No matter the name, it is a soft, powdery dust that has a faint glow. For the average person, it’s either a curiosity or a nuisance. humans call ‘pixie dust’. This magical substance is a powder-like form of solid magic. A mysterious substance that, if collected in large amounts, aids anyone from human to thayan wizards alike in the practice of magic.

FIFA 2026: Infantino claims equivalent of Super Bowls
FIFA 2026: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has newly made a courageous assertion, saying the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the worldwide equal of hosting 104 Super Bowls. At first glance, this comparison might seem exaggerated, even boastful. But when you break down the scope of what’s coming, his words start to make sense. The World Cup 2026 is influential up to be the main.

The greatest determined competition in the event’s history, both in gage and in possible worldwide impact. Unlike the previous editions that featured 32 national teams, this tournament will expand to include 48 nations. That revenue has more admirers, more competitors, and more worldwide demonstration than ever before. Throughout the competition, a total of 104 rivalries will be played.
The United States, Canada, and Mexico. The last seven World Cups all had only 64 competitions. The tournament is more than just a sporting event it’s a major international spectacle that blends competition, culture, and celebration. Noticing back at the 1994 World Cup, the last time the U.S. played host, only 24 squads participated.
Football World Cup 2026 Builds on US Soccer’s Growing Passion
Even then, that tournament had a monumental impact, widely credited with helping soccer take root in the American sports landscape. Many believe it sparked the beginning of soccer’s rise in the U.S., planting seeds that would later grow into Major League Soccer MLS and today’s strong youth and fan engagement.

Fast forward to 2026, and it’s not just about hosting again, it’s about accelerating an already growing fandom to new heights. The tournament is set to kick off at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 11, 2026. This stadium is no stranger to football history and will set the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable opening.
The last competition will be detained on July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, taking the world’s attention to the U.S. East Coast in a grand finale. As excitement builds, host cities are also ramping up their preparations. In Miami, local officials recently launched a one-year countdown to the event. However, some concerns have emerged.
FIFA World Cup 2026 Miami Highlights Unity amid Immigration Concerns
Especially regarding immigration. With the U.S. adopting a stricter stance on border control and immigration in recent years, there’s a fear it might discourage international fans from traveling. Motionless, local influential are working to still those worries. Alina Hudak, President of the 2026 Miami Host Commission, shaft head-on.

Long-established that agencies like Duties and Border Protection and the Migration and Customs Enforcement would be part of the security proposal. That’s brought a degree of unease, especially in a city like Miami, which has long been shaped and enriched by waves of immigrants from across Latin America and the Caribbean.
World Cup 2026 Bay Area Turns Challenge Into Opportunity
Hosting the World Cup there brings a symbolic opportunity and a challenge to showcase its multicultural identity while navigating a complex political environment. Out west in California, the Bay Area is also deep into its preparations. Matthew Gonzalez described from San Jose that the Bay Zone Crowd Commission.
They are working hard to make sure the region is ready for the surge of fans expected for the six matches scheduled in Northern California. BAHC CEO Zaileen Janmohamed highlighted the importance of consistency. Next conference with leaders from 11 other U.S. host cities, she explained that FIFA wants every match attendee to have a similar experience.

No matter which city they’re in. That’s no easy task in a region as vast and diverse as the Bay Area, which spans roughly 7,000 square miles. But Janmohamed sees that size not as a challenge alone, but as an opportunity to highlight the area’s cultural and natural offerings. San Jose has already felt a ripple of World Cup excitement.
Miami Prepares a Warm Welcome for FIFA 2026 Fans
This moment meant more than just hosting games. The plaque, she said, symbolizes the power of the World Cup to inspire future generations. Aly Wagner, a co-founder of NWSL’s Bay FC and former U.S. women’s national team player, echoed that sentiment, saying she expects this exposure to plant seeds in today’s youth that will blossom in the next decade.
Meanwhile, in Texas, all eyes are on AT&T Stadium, or what will temporarily be called Dallas Stadium during the World Cup. Brad Townsend reported that this venue is slated to host the most matches in the entire tournament. Native managers see this as an excellent chance to position North Texas as America’s true soccer capital. Monica Paul.
Management Director of the Dallas Sports Commission and President of the region’s World Cup establishing committee, said, If we do this 2026 World Cup right, it will exponentially increase the growth of both youth and adult soccer here. The visibility that comes with hosting so many high-stakes matches will put Dallas and its stadium at center stage globally.

Where is the dust now?
Satellite photos showed thick dust extending off the coast of Africa on Wednesday morning, with a second swath of lighter dust over the Caribbean.
How does the dust affect tropical storms in the Atlantic?
Significant amounts of dust can inhibit tropical storm formation, or the strengthening of an existing system, because the dusty air has about 50% less moisture than the typical tropical atmosphere.
Strong winds in the dust layer can also substantially increase the vertical wind shear in and around the storm environment, potentially disrupting any storm that forms.
Despite the dust, AccuWeather meteorologists are monitoring the Atlantic for tropical storm development over the next couple of weeks, spanning into the beginning of Atlantic hurricane season.

Navigating Corporate & Commercial Law in Trinidad and Tobago: Expert Legal Support for Businesses
In today’s fast-paced business landscape, navigating corporate and commercial law in Trinidad and Tobago requires more than basic legal knowledge — it demands the support of experienced professionals who understand the complexities of local and international business practices. Whether you're establishing a new business, entering into commercial agreements, or facing regulatory challenges, securing the right legal representation is essential to ensure compliance, avoid costly errors, and facilitate business growth.
This is where leading law firms in Trinidad such as J.D. Sellier + Co. provide critical support. With decades of experience advising both local entrepreneurs and international corporations, their lawyers in Trinidad have developed a deep understanding of corporate law, contract negotiations, mergers, acquisitions, and regulatory compliance in the Caribbean region.
The Importance of Corporate Lawyers in Trinidad
Corporate lawyers in Trinidad play a pivotal role in helping businesses make legally sound decisions. Their services span a wide range of matters, from advising on the formation of private or public companies to drafting shareholders’ agreements, joint venture contracts, and compliance frameworks.
For foreign investors and businesses, understanding the local legal environment is critical. Corporate lawyers ensure all activities comply with Trinidad and Tobago’s Companies Act, tax regulations, and sector-specific laws. This level of legal support helps reduce risk and supports strategic growth, especially when entering regulated industries like energy, telecommunications, or finance.
Understanding Civil and Commercial Legal Needs
Business operations are rarely straightforward. Commercial disputes, contract breaches, and employment issues often arise, requiring careful navigation. That’s where civil lawyers in Trinidad and Tobago contribute significantly. They assist in resolving disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or, when necessary, litigation.
These lawyers bring in-depth knowledge of local court procedures and commercial dispute resolution techniques, ensuring businesses can manage risks without damaging their reputation or finances.
Moreover, their work often overlaps with corporate lawyers in Trinidad, especially when dealing with shareholder disagreements, debt recovery, and real estate transactions involving commercial properties. Their combined knowledge ensures seamless service from contract formation to conflict resolution.
Choosing the Right Law Firm
Choosing the right law firm isn’t just about reputation — it’s about experience, specialization, and proven results. Clients should consider firms that not only have a longstanding presence but also demonstrate a commitment to adapting their services to meet evolving legal and business needs.
J.D. Sellier + Co. stands out among law firms in Trinidad and Tobago for its full-spectrum corporate and commercial law services. Their attorneys offer practical legal guidance with a strategic business perspective, ensuring that clients receive clear, actionable advice tailored to their industry and goals.
As one of the top law firms in Trinidad and Tobago, the firm also maintains strong professional relationships with regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and international legal networks, which enhances the quality of representation and support their clients receive.
Practical Legal Services for Businesses
Beyond general legal counsel, J.D. Sellier + Co. provides highly focused services such as:
- Company formation and restructuring - Legal advice on mergers and acquisitions - Preparation and review of commercial contracts - Corporate governance and regulatory compliance - Employment law advisory - Risk management in business transactions
These services are not only necessary for large enterprises but are also crucial for startups and medium-sized businesses seeking structured, sustainable growth in Trinidad and Tobago.
Intellectual Property and Corporate Law
One often overlooked aspect of commercial law is the protection of intangible assets. As businesses expand, their brand identity, inventions, and proprietary systems become increasingly valuable. It is here that corporate law overlaps with intellectual property law. Partnering with a lawyer in Trinidad who understands both domains helps ensure trademarks, patents, and copyrights are properly protected under local and international frameworks.
Why Local Experience Matters
In a globalized economy, it’s tempting for businesses to rely on general legal templates or foreign advisors. However, local expertise remains invaluable. Laws governing business in Trinidad and Tobago differ in meaningful ways from those in other jurisdictions. For instance, regulatory compliance for foreign investors, sector-specific legislation, and real estate ownership rules are all governed by national law.
By working with law firms in Trinidad and Tobago who understand these nuances, businesses can avoid delays, penalties, or failed investments. More importantly, they gain a trusted legal partner who can anticipate issues before they arise.
Final Thoughts
Whether you're starting a business, negotiating a complex commercial agreement, or seeking advice on a dispute, having the right legal partner is essential. Firms like J.D. Sellier + Co. offer a depth of legal insight and experience that ensures clients remain compliant, competitive, and prepared for growth. With trusted civil lawyers in Trinidad and Tobago, experienced corporate lawyers in Trinidad, and a broad network of legal professionals, the firm continues to support the business community as a leading force among law firms in Trinidad. As your business evolves, choosing a strategic legal advisor who understands your industry and jurisdiction is not just an option — it's a necessity.
