Your back is pressed against the wall as your eyes wander the luxurious party. Senators mingling around with lobbyists and merchants, you could puke at the mere sight. But being the jedi deployed for security at the Intergalactic Senate, it was your duty to attend this kind of event. 

You caught a rare glimpse of Senator Palpatine smiling, so with squinting eyes, you focused on it until you saw he was smiling at a child. The Force around you was unease, brimming with alert. More so when you realized who the child was.

Your feet were moving towards him when someone stopped you grabbing your bicep.

“You’re here” You breathed with calm at the sight of Obi-wan.

“Of course, where were you going so heroically?” there was a slight amusement in his eyes.

“To get Ani, but you go.”

“Nah, he is with Palpatine.” 

“Exactly” 

It took you a minute of studying his relaxed demeanor to realize that he did not see anything weird about it. 

“Obi-wan” you began, “why is Senator Palpatine speaking to Ani, alone?” 

He scoffed, “They are hardly alone, my dear.” 

You took a deep breath, looking for the right words knowing what you were about to say could have you called a traitor. “I don’t trust any of these people. We have known some of them are involved in awful crimes, some of them have been known for partaking in things you would not want your kid anywhere near.” You muttered to a very calm Obi-wan. “So why did you bring him here in the first place?”

He leaned against the wall, somewhat of a shrug on his shoulders, “He gives me the perfect excuse to leave early and he wanted to see if Padme was here.”

“Padme?” Your brows furrowed.

“The Naboonian Queen” Obi-wan grabbed two glasses from a passing droid, giving one to you.

You took a sip of the sparkling liquor. 

“He has a crush on her” Obi-wan murmured next to your ear. 

A bashful smile threaded on your lips. “That’s cute” 

He scoffed, “Of course you would think its cute”

“Excuse me?” You asked, both offended and amused.

“Well you’re a romantic, same as he” He took a sip of his drink, “He is to be a Jedi, he hasn’t even built his lightsaber and yet he’s already breaking the rules” 

“Having a crush is hardly breaking the rules” you pressed, “he is a boy developing innocent feelings for a royal across the galaxy.” you raised one eyebrow at him, “Of all people, you should understand” you muttered against your glass.

You saw his cheeks grow red before he turned away.  “I was—that was—”

“A childish crush?” You accused with a playful smile.

“I knew her” Obi-wan said, his gaze lost on the crowd.

“Very well as I understand” you teased.

“He doesn’t even know Padme, he just thinks she is pretty” His head leaned to the side in a mocking gesture.

You smiled, “where’s the harm in that?”

“They’ll grow up and it won’t be childish anymore” 

Leaning against the wall, you turned to see him. “The Order does not forbid love, it forbids attachment. Jealousy, possessiveness… not love. Qui-Gon himself had a relationship.”

Obi-wan rolled his eyes, “Qui-Gon was different”

“So is Ani. And so is everyone. You can not teach this kid not to love, but you can teach him not to fear.”

The silence stretched between you, your eyes focused on the odd image of an old man speaking to a child. 

His mouth was pulled sideways, “what do they even talk about?” the question seemed to be for himself, but you had been wondering the same since you saw Anakin next to Palpatine.

“What does Ani say about it?”

“That they’re friends” he muttered, apparently unconvinced as well.

“What does an adult have to do befriending a child?” Your mind unraveled, your mouth went sour to the possibilities. 

“You are his friend.”

“No, I’m not” you quickly corrected him, “I am an authority. An authority he can trust and play with, but I am not his friend.” 

Obi-wan shrugged, appearing too tired to think of the differences.

“Business or pleasure?”

A male voice brought you back to your body. It was a Senator you’ve known for a while: a kind man with a gentle smile.

“Pardon me?” 

“Well if in the middle of a party, two Jedi are talking business—meaning security—that would be troublesome.” For such a confident man, he stuttered while explaining his joke.

Obi-wan’s arms crossed on his chest, “talking to her is always a pleasure” 

With an impeccable rehearsed smile, you swallowed a lump on your throat. 

“I am aware, master Jedi Kenobi, which is why I came to ask” his attention returned to you, “would you honor me with a dance?” The Senator offered you a hand.

The Force brimmed with curiosity, but Obi-wan’s signature tensed. In a split second you answered.

“I’m afraid I can’t, after all I am in charge of the security this evening, my lord. Apologies.”

“I understand.” He nodded, “a shame that such a beautiful gown will not sway tonight.” He gave you an honest smile before walking away.

“You’ve got faaaans” There was a hint of annoyance in his mock Though his eyes remained rooted on his padawan.

“Hardly. He is a kind man, that’s all.” 

“He wants you, I felt it.” 

“And I felt you stiffen at his invitation.”

“Of course, think of the Order’s credibility if a knight left to marry some Senator.” His shoulders tensed.

“Marry? My, my, he merely asked me for a dance.” You quipped.

“He wants you.” 

“He is curious. Does it trouble you?” 

He scoffed, “I do not own you nor your body, you can dance with whoever you please.” 

“I am aware” You leaned closer to him, “but it didn’t feel right to accept another man’s advances while standing next to my boyfriend”

You did not catch your slip until you saw his shit-eating-grin, “your what now?” 

“No, I mean—” you backed away, swallowing, but he kept the distance, following you closely.

“What did you mean, dear?”

“She’s not here, we should go, master” Anakin stood in front of you, looking at Obi-wan with wide eyes.

“Yeah, you should go.” You quipped playfully, still troubled by your slip.

Obi-wan’s mouth opened and closed, all the while his cheeks remained pink. 

“Are you coming with us?” Anakin asked you.

You turned to the kid, “I’m afraid I can’t Anakin, I have to work.”

The kid nodded, unconvinced, as he rubbed his eyes with his little fist.

“A few minutes more and you’ll have to carry him to bed.” 

Obi-wan smiled, leaning closer to you, “stop by later?” 

Your brows lifted.

“It would be a shame if that dress didn’t sway tonight, even if it’s just while I guide you to my bed.” 

Your mouth opened, but the quirky remark never came.

“And I honorably accept the title, darling.” His hand raised to push your chin up, closing your mouth.

With a wink, he grabbed his padawan’s hand and walked towards the door.

Meet Saltclan’s first (and only) Patron, Fennelheart!

We haven’t seen this lil man is quite awhile, but I promise he’s hanging out. So originally Fennel went to the ‘unknown residence’ (in the clans it’s called the Unknown) after he died bc he didn’t believe in Starclan. His beliefs were more akin to that of kittypets and loners, many non clan cats believe that when you die you spend eternity reliving the best moments of your life. Now for kittypets and loners that’s a very simple concept, they relive nursing at their parents bellies or being petted or sharing tongues in the sun. And it was the same for Fennel for several moons, but a lot of his best memories involve Saltclan and his friends there, slowly he began to want for more than just reliving the moment no matter how nice.

Starclan is capable of both great simplicity and complexity, changing between the two within seconds, so no one is sure how Fennel ended up in a trial before Starclan to see if he could join. Even starclan’s oldest members can’t fully comprehend the forces that lay beyond and bellow the stars, so everyone just goes with it as if this was a normal trial. Now not every clan cat that dies gets a trial to enter Starclan, but it’s more common than not, after all mortals of all species are inherently flawed. Fennel though was deemed a good boy and allowed in.

Fennel himself honestly didn’t even believe it was Starclan until he was shown proof and by the time he accepted it, they’d already accepted him. Soon he was walking amongst the stars like a true warrior, he could even walk the territory or visit cats dreams. After visiting Lynxdawn and Mallowstripe’s dreams and confirmed his new residence, Wolfstar decided since he had made it to Starclan he should get to be a patron spirit. So Lynx declared him the Patron of Shifting & Former Outsiders

Outsiders attempting to join the clan can pray to him to ease their transition into clan life. Speaking of transitions, trans cats can pray to him to help present as their desired gender. It can be something as simple as ‘Oh please, Fennelheart let them assume I’m a tom’ before going to a gathering, more commonly he’ll get a ‘Fennelheart please let these herbs not taste like ass’. While Saltclan is still in its infancy, it’ll be much more common to pray to Saltclan specific patrons. Other clans are pretty open to praying to patrons not originally from their clan, Scorchstar is a popular choice for fire starting assistance.

As a patron Fennel has more responsibility, which he loves, he doesn’t get prayed to often, especially in the early days but he answers every prayer sent his way no matter how silly. He uses his spiritual energy to make bitter hrt herbs taste sweet or to make someone’s scent a little more gender affirming or to soothe a cat who is frazzled about learning new clan customs. It’s not much, but it’s honest work.

I plan to post more patrons, previous leaders, and notable cats of clan history as time goes on, but I figured we should start with our boy Fennelheart💕

Also yes every early/founding member of Saltclan will be a patron after they die, some ill reveal some I won’t due to spoilers.

Guys, I am truly heartbroken. I was at the show in DC tonight and it was difficult. I went to the pre-sale yesterday... well, Sunday, now as it's 12:45 am on Tuesday as I am writing this, and we were out there from 11:50 am until just around 4 pm. We made it to within 10 feet of the merch stand when my friend, Cathy, complained that she was seeing spots. She held onto my forearms as I watched the color drain from her face and her knees buckled. I had to call for a medic. Lovely Stays around me helped lay her down and get water and ice on her before EMTs came over. She was not the first or the last to drop that day. Even the employees were passing out. Cathy is fine and we got home safe. Today... rather Monday, we were better prepared, but this heat is vicious. All day while at the stadium, ambulances circled. The venue was not prepared, not with the wristbands, not with supplying people with water or cooling stations or even shade. They didn't even let the employees know what the heck they were supposed to tell us about what was going on. No one even knew what line was to even get in the building. There were people in the pit that had been in the sun/heat for hours. We were allowed one unopened bottle of water from outside. Inside water was $6+. The guys were shocked at soundcheck about how hot it was. At the beginning of the show, they were struggling. Felix looked horrible, showing signs of heat stress. Their concern for Stays was always at the forefront. They paused the show to check in with everyone, but then came the part where they actively had to ask staff to get involved. Stays were sick, having seizures, passing out. Guys, it was not good. The boys were stressed. They tried to stay calm but it was too much. After performing a few songs after a short break, they decided ultimately to end the show early. This video just crushes me. To see how sorry they feel for something completely out of their control. Reading their messages on Bubble. I am so sad. I am thankful I am home and well (besides being covered in sweat and dehydrated), and count myself lucky I saw them perform in Seattle. For some Stays, this was their only chance. Hug your Stays, please. We are hurting right now.

One of the highlights of the description of younger Kirk as a bookish and severe Academy instructor is that Gary Mitchell, the friend describing him that way, seems to have been his student back in the day and was trying to pass his notoriously difficult "think or sink" class at the Academy.

Present-day Mitchell mentions reading "that longhair stuff you like" to Kirk (now that he's acquired godly powers that include being able to read Spinoza) and there's this random lore drop about how Mitchell helped a lab technician with a crush on Kirk orchestrate her dating campaign, in hopes that it'd distract Kirk enough for Mitchell to survive his class.

It seems pretty widely accepted that Kirk had a romance with Mitchell himself at the time, which is not my take at all, BUT honestly it's hilarious to me that there's this whole Clueless-style "student matchmaking plot to get a strict teacher a girlfriend so he'll chill enough that you can pass the class" history established almost immediately about Kirk. Comedy gold, especially since Kirk and the lab technician ended up in a long-term relationship and he nearly married her.

Bonus: Kirk and Mitchell became close friends but Kirk is still incredulous at the idea of Mitchell voluntarily reading Spinoza in the episode. And when Mitchell flips into obnoxious god mode and describes Spinoza as simple and childish, Kirk is pretty evidently affronted and alarmed. It's not surprising that Kirk has big philosophy opinions given that futuristic humanism is half his personality, but the idea of him as a former philosophy instructor with Spinoza feelings who goes to space and still can't escape Bad Philosophy Takes is incredible. Even by Season 3, it's just like:

KIRK: Dr. McCoy saved your life. PARMEN: I am losing patience, captain. KIRK: And you consider yourself a disciple of Plato?!

Following the story for Ryune's sisters in an interesting time in my head. It's an arc that I'm not actively trying to create. Rather, it really is just sort of happening. There's a feeling I want to capture with it which I can't really describe well. The death of their mother and brother not long after their dissapearance, the fall and now rise of Ala Mhigo, the revelations of the very nature of their world juxtaposed with this joy of reunification and hope for what might be. It's complex and interesting to me.

They left a world falling apart and have returned as it rises out of the ashes. M'erda at 19 and M'sana at 17 are still young enough that adapting will likely be easy enough on the surface, but it's a lot to process, and they'll need time to do so. Ryune is only somewhat equipped to deal with it herself, and now feels almost like she needs to be a surrogate parent to help guide them. Their mother was 39 when she died, and Ryune being 30 now is putting her in a strange mental place.

When she was little, Ryune had envisioned herself hunting and defending the tribe alongside them as a team of 3, and the echo of that dream still hides within her. She wants to keep that bond they had, but its impossible for it to be as it was. Just as well, any friends the returned sisters had are now either dead, gone, or simply 20 years older and very much different people than the last time they saw them, so even among the tribe they're more alone than not.

Understanding these characters as they develop in my head is the main guide to what pops out in the end. Right now, I have no idea what they may do, but I do know there's people to meet and places to go, and putting them in those situations is how they come into their own as characters instead of simple a collection of ideas for my brain to rotate.

i got the best and worst booster box ever i pulled three blue eyes. but this was pokemon and it was the fucking duck. quaxlys evolution. i got a bunch of everything cause its a booster box but i pulled three quaquavals. i did it like an advent calendar with my friend. we opened maybe five packs the day we bought it and restrained ourselves for a month and had a pack a day it was so fun pulling these!

the third quaquaval was the rare one but not the gold one and i was so mad lmao it was the second last pack. forreal! and my pulls other than the full art wooper (lets fucking gooo) were shit i wanted a clodsire! i pulled one buying three packs a few days later no big deal lmao but i was so mad at this box.
