I feel like as a society we’re really sleeping on the fact that the entire movie sets it up so that we know that everyone practically worships Ferris and thinks of him as a higher being and let him do basically whatever he wants except for Cameron, Sloane, and Jeanie, and then Ferris full on says “you can’t respect someone who kisses your ass. it just doesn’t work.” and that’s why he’s been friends with Cameron since the sixth grade and hasn’t left despite apparently threatening to numerous times and that’s why he loves Sloane and that’s why he trusts his sister and like the movie makes much more sense when you think about it that way

rewatching ferris bueller’s day off makes me realize how much I used to dismiss cameron growing up. oh he’s just the poor sick kid that ferris messes with when now it’s pretty obvious that cam is the only one who can get under ferris’ skin & make him break character. ferris uses people to further the plot of a script he controls, but cameron pushes back. he’ll go along with the schemes, he knows ferris so well that he knows when he’s been manipulated/guilted (best friends since fifth grade), but he’s also a willing participant. he improvises, and purposefully riles ferris up to make him lose his cool. in the kitchen when he makes ferris apologize for “hitting” him. in the taxi when he says he saw nothing interesting at all, and smiles, all while ferris is fuming crashes a parade & serenades him just to prove him wrong. “ferris bueller you’re my hero”. they love each other and challenge each other and it’s unfair to both of them to say it’s not a mutual relationship

he can lip sync and perform, he's not afraid to take up room or be on stage, he'll probably try anything once, he's flamboyant/dramatic and always over the top, he can absolutely do improv comedy/read someone like crazy, he's already serving face constantly, his random bad foreign language, his overall cunty demeanor, leopard print themed drag, that "Cameron, babe!" & "Darling, you were wonderful. Cameron, you thought we wouldn't have any fun. Shame on you." is almost all the evidence you need

FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF (1986) BEHIND THE SCENES

So I posted a few of these pics and saved a bunch more in a Pinterest board with 'rare' BTS shots from FBDO. These black & white ones are my babies — spent a whole afternoon last month digging them up from random Facebook pages lol. cameron as the soldier because he’s loyal to ferris, yet he decides to commit an act of defiance (car through the window)—hence, “tearing the city down”

sloane as the poet because she’s able to use her words to calm ferris and cameron, and she’s quite good at persuading the other characters during her day off

ferris as the king because…well, duh!

people who are like "ferris ruined cameron's life ferris is the real antagonist poor cameron ferris is the worst friend" have obviously never been depressed and deep in the pit of despair in desperate need of a friend to come and shake up your life and snap you out of your slump. Sure ferris made cameron feel anxiety levels of a deer being hunted for sport but he also gave Cameron the courage to stand up to his father and the motivation to get out into the world and loosen up. ferris single handedly fixed camerons worst problem in one crazy day of silly goofy fun he literally did it all because he loves his best friend and wants him to have fun WHATS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT THAT....
