       fun fact: only a holy weapon can kill an angel; which are, unfortunately, the weaponry they are assigned to carry, for they double as a highly effective deterrent against the denizens of hell. as demons have healing factors, these weapons are designed to bypass such an ability and inflict wounds that cannot be healed at what would normally be an accelerated rate, dulling their power to recover quickly from it. this also applies to angels however, though this is not common knowledge and they are forbidden to speak of it outside the three spheres.

       it’s a workplace hazard that comes with the territory of being a soldier for heaven, and they’ve all accepted it. self-preservation isn’t high on the list for angels, but allowing a demon to come into possession of their weapon is a death sentence for not only them, but their ilk--- even if the demon may not be aware of that. it’s a well-kept secret, and they intend to keep it that way.

       on the precipice of his defection, azrael met his brother in battle. the pair were evenly matched, and neither escaped unharmed. the clash would mark them both forever, although azrael arguably more so. while samael sustained a scar reaching from the right side of his jaw across his cheek in the aftermath of their skirmish, azrael was permanently blinded in his left eye, resulting in their mismatched colouration. as a human, it appears the deepest and darkest black, whereas in his reaper form, it manifests as an empty eye socket.

       due to the nature of their weaponry, these are irreparable wounds that not even their grace--- the source of an angel’s power--- can fully heal.
