What about childhood friends to lovers icks you?

it’s the lack of weighing of options to me and also the fact that usually as the relationship is portrayed, it’s very stagnant on the part of both characters

like i don’t think “i love this person romantically because they knew me since i was little” is enough. it’s a valid component but too often the trope leans on just that and it’s :////

also in a lot of romantic narratives based on childhood friends to lovers, they don’t spend a substantial time apart growing as people, and it’s particularly bad in het relationships on the part of the woman (which is usually because men write narratives like this predominantly), and they become less of a realized person and more of a like symbol of homecoming or safety while usually the male character gets to like live an entire life and then settle down. if i do ever end up liking those narratives or even high school sweethearts, it’s usually because those characters are seen in a different setting separately and grow then reconvene

lastly, i think what’s also frustrating is it fits the whole trope that was big on social media for a while where it was like ‘men don’t marry for love, they marry who’s around when they’re ready to be married’

anyway these are my personal opinions, i love soulmates and people have issues with it so there are so many different cups of tea to choose from!!

She felt safe here. Whenever he would visit, she would always approach the glass of the tank and wave at him. She'd flash him a smile, but it seemed he had not truly paid too much attention to her or her actions.

Ariel had come here after she'd killed that man. He'd learned her secret of being able to change and he'd wanted to take advantage. Drowning him in the tank had been an act of self defense -- but the mob wasn't one that looked at it in those lenses.

Alone in his office, she threw him a bright smile. He hadn't realized who she was and why she had kept smiling at him, had kept throwing glances his way.

"You don't recognize me, do you? We know each other... well we've never officially met before, but you came to visit all the time!"

     the push granted to his head made a frown appear, nose almost scrunching ; glad the femme at least saw it as a trait of friendly protection rather than some weird obession —- because it was more than that for keon, he just hadn't quite come to term with them himself yet.  " somebody gotta look out for you, pretty sure this guy was some creep who would've kidnapped you. "  index finger pointing a few times as if to be more factual about his statement, when in fact keon just didn't want ariel to settle for ... well, anyone.  " hm, depends whether you want something serious or not —- guess that's where it is more difficult, finding somebody serious ? "  brow quirks, reaching over to grab ariel's drink, taking a sip from the coffee ; oh, classical keon being an annoyance when feeling like it.

I just made a connection in TLM 2023 film (might make a cute gifset??) The scene where Eric comes to breakfast and talks to his mother, when he stands at the window staring at sea. He's probably thinking about the mystery girl who saved him (Ariel). Later under the sea, while her sisters are cleaning up the shipwreck, Ariel is daydreaming on a rock, playing with the little fish. She's probably thinking about Eric. So that same morning they are both thinking about each other. 🥺

I feel like Moana the first one and the Little Mermaid the first one are very similar stories. It would be interesting if they had some kind of a crossover if they live somewhat in the same timeline. And because I'm kind of a shipper and Ariel is a romantic, I probably would ship it a little bit too somewhere in the story. So both Ariel and Moana wants their adventures and things but their fathers are afraid of it. Triton is kind of afraid of humans and chief Tui is afraid of the water and so for them to kind of meet up, Ariel as a symbol of the water and Moana a symbol of humanity in a way, and having that adventure it would be pretty interesting.

So whether or not Usulas storyline gets kind of ignored where maybe Ariel still loses her voice but not gaining legs or Moana still has to do her whole heart of te fiti adventure so they have these like you know locket buddies thing going on is the thing for me. Moana goes to look for Maui to return the heart of te fiti and maybe runs in the Ariel who is trying to find Ursula to get her voice back, knowing the mistake she made in the trase or due to the trade not completing and the contract being void. Somehow Ariel is so lost that she ends up in the Polynesian waters near Montanui.

Mostly I want to know where Ursula would play in this. Did she trick Maui to think he had to take the heart in the first place? If going by the plot of Triton and Ursula being siblings this could work, as Ursula would also be good or demigod or half God or however that works. Also Maui being a demigod could somehow link back to Triton as a full god who could help Ariel get her voice back if them defeating Ursula doesn't work. But what would be Ursula's motive for this in the first place? What would she get if the fiti dies and the humans used the heart? 🤔

I will think more about this crossover. I most likely won't write it because I am not Polynesian or Hawaiian and feel like I wouldn't write it correctly or with the respect it deserves but the idea over all tickles me.

From outward appearances, the ship had seemed abandoned. It looked like nearly all the other unlucky, forgotten, and unloved bones of former ships that littered the sea floor.

The mermaid had spooked at the sight of him for only a moment. There were all manner of creatures that inhabited the sea of varying appearances.

She may not know what "fried fish" meant, but Ariel had an idea that it had something to do with fire -- of which could not burn down here.

Swimming forward, both brave and dumb, the rebellious mermaid reached forward to take his hand.

"I'm Ariel..." a pause, "I didn't know anyone was in here."
