he was almost sure that he wasn’t hearing her correctly. this wasn’t really the time for her to be telling him this but was there really a good time in the middle of a divorce? probably not. “you’re pregnant?” he asked, his eyes wide and surprise written all over his face. sebastian wasn’t the type of guy that would leave the mother of his child alone, despite their situation. he just assumed that they were better apart but...what were they supposed to do now? “and you’re sure? i mean,” he cleared his throat. “how far along? because we haven’t, you know, in a little while...”

Val chuckled. “So what you’re telling me is that you’re still a 12 year old boy? How charming.” She pushed the thought of the two of them sharing a bed way, way to the back of her mind. It was just a normal reaction to the conversation topic, she convinced herself. “You bring out the worst in me.” She sing-songed as she flattened her hair down, taking a step forward. She heard her name being shouted and without thinking she gripped Sebastian’s hand a little tighter. “Rude, now I’m offended that you can’t keep your hands off me.” She teased, knowing full well that there was no way for him to win, she would just irritate him either way.

“when it comes to trying to get under your skin, i absolutely am a twelve year old boy.” he agreed with a somewhat proud smile on his face. sebastian didn’t see the two of them sleeping anywhere close to each other though, especially not when he was sure she hated him as much as he did. “i guess that’s what i’m here for, though, huh?” in the crowd though, he was trying his best to do what he could to make her happy and at her next comment, he couldn’t help but chuckle a little. “is this what you want?” he asked as his arm came around her waist and he tugged her closed into his side.

sebastian knew that she wasn’t the type of girl that his parents would be proud to see him date but she’d managed to win over sebastian’s attention regardless of how different she was from him. the fact that she grew up on the opposite side of the tracks or that she grew up different from how he did, didn’t matter to him. it never had but it definitely mattered to his parents and dinner hadn’t gone as planned. “i’m sorry.” he finally spoke, glancing over at her. “i shouldn’t have made you suffer through that. they definitely could’ve been nicer. it’s just, you know, they want me to end up with one of their friend’s kids...”

“are you sure?” most people would have thrown a fit, scream at her, or just do something. sure, his initial reaction was definitely normal but how he had been treating her had been too calm. it wasn’t concerning but she didn’t know what to make of it. “maybe a bit later on? i think it’s just me being a bit too worried for rosie but let’s have dinner or something together. see what she thinks about it? she gets a bit shy meeting new people.”

“no, but i don’t really want to get into this with you when there’s a possibility of waking our daughter up. i definitely don’t trust you, especially after you left and i’m...well, truthfully i’m pretty upset over all that you would keep this from me and i think your reasonings are just...excuses.” he huffed out and then gave her a nod. “i could do dinner though.”

he did deserve an explanation as to why she left and it was taking every ounce of courage to tell him, “i was scared about having the kid. i thought you weren’t ready and i- i just didn’t want to get away with your plans and goals.” the brunette did love him but she was more scared about having a child that she just needed to get away from everything and everyone. it freaked her out about what it would mean for their relationship and he was starting at his job. “i made a selfish decision back then and i’m sorry.”

honestly, he wasn’t sure what it meant for them. she had left and she had hurt him, which is something he didn’t at all expect. “that wasn’t a choice of yours to make, elle. if you did get in the way of my apparent goals or whatever else you thought i was working toward, i would have adjusted them for you and our family.” he explained, clearly a little frustrated but he was never one to raise his voice. “i do want to get to know my daughter though. i want to be here for her if i can.”
