For the week of 22 July 2019
Quick Bits:
A Walk Through Hell #12 concludes what has been an excellent horror tale from Garth Ennis, Goran Sudžuka, Ive Svorcina, and Rob Steen with another trip into existential terror as we’re given a glimpse of what this is all about and what’s coming.

Action Comics #1013 keeps a lot of plates spinning as it works through elements of “Year of the Villain”, Event Leviathan, the ongoing Invisible Mafia story thread, and the Rose and Thorn revival. It’s kind of impressive as to how it remains entertaining and engrossing with as much going on.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Age of Conan: Bêlit #5 is another ending this week, as we finish off Bêlit’s coming of age origin story, as she confronts the Stygian priest and lays claim to her title of Queen of the Black Coast. Great art from Kate Niemczyk, Scott Hanna, Andrea Di Vito, and Jason Keith.

Amazing Spider-Man #26 introduces us to the new Sinister Syndicate fully as they plan an attack on Boomerang. It’s kind of funny to see him still getting into trouble even now that he’s trying to stay legit. Great art from Kev Walker and Laura Martin.

Tumblr media
Ascender #4 gives us a few surprises in the fight between the vampires and the resistance. The grey washes, with mixes of red, from Dustin Nguyen on the vampire’s throneworld is very impressive.

Batgirl #37 launches the new creative team of Cecil Castellucci, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Jordie Bellaire, and AndWorld Design with part one of “Oracle Rising”. There’s a nice battle with Killer Moth, emphasizing what some villains are doing in order to try to get noticed by Luthor to receive the offer, while playing up the expense that goes into crimefighting. Also, the Terrible Trio unleash something probably not too good.
| Published by DC Comics

Dark Red #5 concludes the first arc as Chip and Evie try to fight off an army of Nazi vampires. It’s good, with some nice funny moments. Great art from Corin Howell and Mark Englert.

Detective Comics #1008 is a straight-forward single issue story of Batman and Joker at the circus from Peter J. Tomasi, Doug Mahnke, Jaime Mendoza, Dave Baron, and Rob Leigh. It’s a refreshing change of pace from the extended arcs, even as it sets up a new threat in the “Year of the Villain” offering.

Dial H for Hero #5 gets a little meta as we dive into the Multiverse, the Heroverse, and the Bleed from Sam Humphries, Joe Quinones, Scott Hanna, Jordan Gibson, and Dave Sharpe. The use of breaking through panels, reproductions of old comics scenes, and a variation of styles just deliver phenomenal storytelling.

Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish #2 continues to fill in the backstory of the adventurers’ time with the White Sails, introducing us to the pitfalls that harried them, before giving more hints in the present of the nightmare that tore them apart. B. Dave Walters, Tess Fowler, Jay Fotos, and Neil Uyetake are delivering an entertaining fantasy tale here.

Fearless #1 is a new three-issue anthology mini-series spotlighting a number of the women of Marvel, both characters and creative talent. This first issue leads off with a continuing lead feature from Seanan McGuire, Claire Roe, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Janice Chiang, as Sue Richards, Carol Danvers, and Storm prepare to visit a girls camp as motivational speakers. There’s also an entertaining Mille the Model back-up from Leah Williams, Nina Vakueva, Rosenberg, and Chiang. And a very funny Jessica Jones story from the Captain Marvel team of Kelly Thompson, Carmen Carnero, Tamra Bonvillain, with Chiang. Though short, that last story is pretty much worth the price of the issue alone.

Five Years #3 sees Tambi meet with Ivy and Julie to discuss that various nations around the world are dangerously developing Phi-alloy technology. Also a surprise appearance of people we thought were out. Great art as always from Terry Moore.

The Flash #75 delivers three stories for this extra-sized anniversary issue. The lead concludes the “Year One arc. This is some of the best art that I have ever seen from Howard Porter, he and Hi-Fi just deliver amazing artwork here. There are also two back-ups, one hinting at things to come in the future for Barry and the other tying in to “Year of the Villain” as Captain Cold receives Luthor’s offer.

Guardians of the Galaxy #7 begins the second arc, “Faithless”, from Donny Cates, Cory Smith, David Curiel, and Cory Petit. It really introduces us to the new Universal Church of Truth as they take out an entire squadron of the Nova Corps and then worse things happen as the Guardians go off to investigate. I love the name for the Guardians’ new ship and that final page is one hell of a shock.

History of the Marvel Universe #1 is an interesting project from Mark Waid, Javier Rodríguez, Álvaro López, and Joe Caramagna. It’s framed as Galactus telling Franklin Richards (at least I think that’s Franklin Richards) the history of the universe before it dies and the next is reborn. As expected, it’s dry facts, but it’s fascinating in how it’s comprehensively presented and the artwork from Rodríguez and López is jaw-dropping gorgeous. There are also annotations in the back to show where these events come from. It’s well put together and I highly recommended it to die-hard Marvel fans.

Invisible Kingdom #5 concludes the first arc with an almost entirely one-sided battle between the Sun Dog and a Lux battleship. G. Willow Wilson, Christian Ward, and Sal Cipriano elevate the tension nicely through this issue and give a few surprises when everything seems grim and it looks like the end.

Killer Groove #3 wonderfully showcases one of Jackie’s cases as it intertwines with the music scene and criminal underworld. Ollie Masters, Eoin Marron, Jordie Bellaire, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou are doing a nice job with this series of crafting one larger story out of many separate smaller tales.

Lazarus: Risen #2 is another dense read. The series has always been hefty, but this new format has elevated things further, doubling up comics content and adding a prose short story, the letters pages, and extra content like gaming material and the usual in-world advertisements. I’m loving it. Greg Rucka, Michael Lark, Tyler Boss, Santi Arcas, Simon Bowland, Adam Christopher, and Crystal Frasier are definitely giving you your money’s worth and more here. Excellent comics content as the war between Carlyle and Morray/D’Souza heats up.

Livewire #8 pits Amanda versus Jada for a final round. It’s still interesting how practically everyone is trying to portray Amanda’s actions as harmful and villainous. Great art from Kano.

Martian Manhunter #7 sees J’onn and Diane uncover some of the results of the experiments that have been going on with the kidnapped and missing people, it’s horrifying. Incredible and haunting artwork in this one from Riley Rossmo and Ivan Plascencia.

Marvels: Epilogue is a short, but sweet, coda to the Marvels series from Kurt Busiek, Alex Ross, John Roshell, and Richard Starkings. It spotlights events from X-Men #98 through the eyes of Phil Sheldon and his daughters, capturing some of the awe, wonder, and terror that Sheldon experienced during the main series. The book is filled out with an interview with Busiek and Ross on their experience with the series and what it’s like to look back on it 25 years later, as well as interviews with the editors who worked on the book.

Middlewest #9 sets out a new quest for Abel as he comes across the Nowak people. Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, Jean-Francois Beaulieu, and Nate Piekos are continuing to make magic with this series. The art is beautiful and the story is endlessly captivating.

Psi-Lords #2 continues to investigate these four captives, changed for whatever reason by the Psi-Lords, and the habitat of their prison. An interesting jail hierarchy of gangs is revealed and a bit of a memory of the four’s lives before being captured. Gorgeous art from Renato Guedes.

Star Pig #1 is weird. Very weird. Delilah S. Dawson, Francesco Gaston, Sebastian Cheng, and Shawn Lee give us the story of a kid on her way to space camp whose ship is struck and destroyed by an asteroid, saved by a space pig and a scavenger energy ball. It’s probably one of the more unique tales I’ve seen in a while.

Sword Master #1, like Aero before it, features two stories. In the first, Greg Pak adapts into English a tale from Shuizhu and Gunji of the titular hero, Lin Lie, and his quest to find his missing father. It’s an interesting start and the artwork from Gunji is gorgeous. The back up original story pairs Shang-Chi up with Lin in a story from Greg Pak, Ario Anindito, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Travis Lanham. It follows up on their appearance in the New Agents of Atlas tie-in to “War of the Realms” and presents an interesting antagonist on their trail.

Valkyrie #1 is a wonderful debut from Jason Aaron, Al Ewing, CAFU, Jesus Aburtov, and Joe Sabino. We get some continued supporting cast from Jane Foster’s time as Thor, although with a new status quo, and an interesting hook in trying to track down Dragonfang, the former Valkyrie’s sword. The art from CAFU and Aburtov is beautiful.

Warlord of Mars Attacks #2 continues this crossover of John Carter and Mars Attacks. It’s interesting how it incorporates Edgar Rice Burroughs’ stories as actual things in this world and explains how Mars as a dead planet and one as teeming with life as Barsoom could exist simultaneously.

The Weatherman Vol. 2 #2 gives us more of a look at the nightmare that has consumed Earth as the crew attempt to find the doctor who might be able to fix everything. It goes about as well as could be expected. The monster designs and execution from Nathan Fox and Moreno Dinisio are incredible.

Web of Venom: Funeral Pyre #1 is another one-shot catching up on the wider world of Venom as we barrel headlong into Absolute Carnage. Cullen Bunn, Joshua Cassara, Alberto Alburquerque, Jay David Ramos, and Clayton Cowles give us a great story checking in with Andi Benton, the former Mania and occasional sidekick to Flash Thompson’s Venom.

Wonder Woman #75 continues “Return of the Amazons” from G. Willow Wilson, Xermanico, Jesus Merino, Vicente Cifuentes, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Pat Brosseau. This arc basically brings Wilson’s run around full circle to deal with some of the elements that kicked off her first issue as Diana faces off against Grail. Some really nice double page spreads with border art from Xermanico.

shopping ↬  t.h
Tumblr media
not my gif
summary: shopping with tom can be a hassle sometimes pairing: tom holland x reader notes: hello! i’m back with a little hc because WE REACHED 100 FOLLOWERS! thank you so much! please feel free to request things or come swing by my asks here. lots of love warnings: literally none (i don’t even think there’s swearing)
grocery shopping
tom hates going grocery shopping
if he went shopping by himself, his cart would be ¾ filled with cartons of beer and ¼ of the things you two actually needed, and maybe not even that
when he goes by himself it’s either because you’re busy with work or not in town, and it’s a disaster
he tends to go a little a lot overboard
he’s one of those people who goes to the store on an empty stomach so he ends up buying a TON of food
“i’m not sure how much we needed for i got 3 packs of grapes” or your favorite, “there was a sale!”
when you’re home, you pretty much have to beg him to go to the store with you
“babe we need to go to the store”
“hmm okay, what time are you going?”
“don’t you mean what time are WE going?”
“nope.”
TOM LOVES TO DRIVE SO YOU GIVE HIM THE INCENTIVE THAT IF HE GOES WITH YOU THEN HE GETS TO DRIVE, which really only works half of the time
in all honesty, he would be perfectly fine with not having to step foot within a grocery store
you swear he’s like a child when it comes to shopping
he probably stands on the front of the cart if the store isn't busy, just to get you to laugh
“are we done yet?”
“not yet, we need three more items.”
A LOT OF BORED groaning because he definitely didn't want to spend his saturday afternoon in the market, looking at vegetables
tom is not brand specific at all when shopping
let’s say you need coffee creamer. naturally, you’d look for the brand you like, making sure the store carried it before you even thought about picking out a different brand. well, tom would just throw in a random creamer and call it a day.
he doesn't take time to read labels or brands, he gets what he needs so he can get out
pet shopping / shopping for tessa
this is completely different from shopping for tessa
when it comes to tom’s beloved dog, he needs to make sure everything is 10000% safe for her
this means double-checking food ingredients, warnings, and even reviews
he just wants to make sure she’s the happiest staffy out there, and honestly, he’s doing a pretty good job
tom pretty much-collected superhero costumes for tessa
it started out as a little jokes because as we all know, he’s spider-man
he just came in one day with a bag of dog food and a spider-man costume in hand
at first, you thought it was super duper cute, but now that it’s becoming somewhat of a collection, you were running out of space to put everything
“love, where’s tessa’s thor hammer?”
“check the three bottom drawers of our dresser.”
that’s right. three drawers.
tom’s obvious favorite is the spider-man costume he had gotten for her
the two of you spoil her with new toys
everytime you are both out together, you always find a way to bring up tessa
“look babe, a squeaking burger!”
“ah! tess would be absolutely thrilled”
you guys probably spend more on tessa than yourselves
furniture shopping
much like grocery shopping, house decor/furniture shopping is not one of tom’s favorite things to do
however, it definitely rated higher on his things to do list than taking a trip to the market
even though it’s not his favorite, the two of you find ways to have fun
his favorite part is testing out the mattresses and sample beds even though you’re not supposed to lay on them
“come cuddle with me, darling”
a lot of shaking your head jokingly because your mans is a literal child
imagine going to ikea with tom
you two would get lost in a matter of seconds
but i honestly feel like tom’s flat came directly from an ikea room set because boy can’t decorate for himself
if he did, he would have everything spider-man themed
i’m talking sheets, lamp shades, pillow cases, towels and everything in between
y’all know i’m right, don’t even try to fight me on this one
i feel like tom genuinely has a good eye for what’s comfortable??
it might not be the cutest furniture you’ve ever seen, but it sure is comfortable
clothes shopping
shopping for clothes is one of tom’s favorite things to do
he loves watching you try things on
he definitely has an eye for fashion
tom secretly kinda hates when you ask him to go shopping with you because that means you want to wear something other than his clothes
and he LOVES the way you look in his clothes
even when the two of you are shopping, he tries to convince to continue to wear his clothes
“okay but babe, those jeans paired with my yellow hoodie would look really nice — just saying”
if you let him, he’d spoil you with designer clothing
prepare for a lot of compliments
we love a mans who appreciates fashion
besides shopping for you, tom loves shopping for himself
and even though he loves watching you try clothes on, he LOVES trying on clothes for you
you definitely have to convince him to buy the things he really wants
“i don’t know about this jacket? what do you think, darling?”
“i think you look HOT”
you’re not even quiet about how good he looks
i mean hot holy hell he LOOKED SO GOOD BITCH
tom also really likes to look at watches
he learned from rdj, that a watch is one of the most important accessories someone could ever sport
even when clothes shopping, he will find himself in the toys department somehow
he has a problem when it comes to buying spider-man memorabilia and has WAY TOO MANY figurines of his own character
every time you go out, he finds another to his growing collection
him slyly holding the toy behind his back for the duration of the shopping trip and then slowly putting it on the checkout aisle
and at this point it’s already too late to tell him no
BUT LET’S BE REAL
TOM PRETTY MUCH JUST LIKES SPENDING TIME WITH YOU SO IF THAT MEANS ANY TYPE OF SHOPPING, HE’LL PROBABLY END UP DOING IT!

#Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Episode 10 "Past Life" Recap and Review
The episode starts with the Zephyr docking at the Lighthouse. Kasius and his men instantly enter and find Sinara’s body.
The team enters through a container.
A Kree in a lab detects no life forms. Enoch apparently doesn’t count. He tells the team that the Kree are still searching the ship. He will have the machine done by the time Flint builds the monolith.
Deke still doesn’t understand how this works. Fitzsimmons give him a science explanation and Daisy tries to clarify. He wants to know when they’ll kill Kasius.
Tess tells Mack, Yo-Yo, Flint that there was someone else with her when she was revived. She wants to go back for them. Yo-Yo says that she’ll go instead. Tess is needed at the Trawler. She talks to Flint before she leaves. Yo-Yo tells him to take care of Mack.
Kasius wants his doctor to fix Sinara. He can’t. Kree biology is far more complicated than Terran biology. Kasius shoots him. Then he starts talking to Sinara. When he’s done, he tells one of his men to get the inhuman trainer. He has Robin’s drawings and he now understands that they want to go back. He wants to kill them before they get back so that his father can have the full Earth like he always wanted. When the trainer gets there, he tells him that he wants the remaining inhumans to form his army. When the trainer protests that most of them haven’t been trained much, Kasius tells a story about his family. They have this death vial they use to die well. He shoves the contents of it into the trainer’s mouth. His mouth and eyes bleed black and the effects described are a lot like the ones in the second Thor movie.
Mack talks to Flint about motorcycles and offers to let Flint go with them. Then they find Fitzsimmons, who show Flint the monolith.
Coulson and May rescue Kasius’s inhuman army. The trainer attacks Daisy and Coulson. After a while, Daisy kills him
Tess finds Deke at the Trawler and they awkwardly talk about her being dead. Coulson then talks to her about shared life experiences, which must be nice for him. She then leaves to get the inhumans to the human levels.
Kasius is told about the inhumans, but he’s gone completely nutty. He only talks to Sinara. He takes a vial but doesn’t open it. He tells the other Kree that they are going to use the seer as an example. The seer is a she, by the way.
Yo-Yo finds the other inhuman, who is also the seer, who is also herself. I KNEW IT! Kasius’s reaction when he met Yo-Yo was just too weird! Old Yo-Yo confirms Fitz’s worst fear: they are in a time loop and she doesn’t believe they can change it. Kasius kills her and then revives her when needed. She tells now Yo-Yo that they make it back and cause this future, like Oedipus but without the incest. She also confirms that Mack died, apparently in a fire. That’s all she remembers about it.
Enoch has been found. He calculates that he has 12 minutes before they break in. Deke says that he’ll go and save Enoch. Daisy wants to go with him. He won’t let her and even gives her a pep talk. Their relationship has grown so much. I’m going to miss it.
Simmons has become the default inhuman therapist/trainer as she’s helping Flint with the monolith piece. He confirms that it’s mostly limestone. Three Kree catch them, but Fitz kills them with a trip wire he’s been setting up.
Old Yo-Yo tells now Yo-Yo that she remembers feeling helpless that she couldn’t change people’s choices, “his” choices.
Daisy hacks into the lighthouse but tells Coulson that she isn’t coming with them.
Old Yo-Yo says that the more they fought, the closer the future came. One choice sets them down this path, the choice to save a male someone.
Coulson ices Daisy.
It was Coulson. Coulson is dying. Old Yo-Yo says that they have to let him. Now Yo-Yo tries to get Old Yo-Yo to come with her.
Old Yo-Yo says no and shows now Yo-Yo that her hands are gone, a la comics Yo-Yo. Now Yo-Yo leaves.
Flint is in one of Deke’s masks in space.
The Kree have gotten to Enoch.
Kasius goes to see Old Yo-Yo.
Flint is bringing rocks together. Mack moves a servant back from a window. Flint throws the rocks he’s been collecting through the window and all the Kree collected there die.
Deke kills the Kree before he kills Enoch. Enoch wants him to repair the machine, which was damaged in the fight, instead of him.
Mack and Fitz talk. Fitz tells Mack he’s engaged, kind of. Simmons takes out the servant’s device. May and Coulson, holding Daisy, get there and ask about Yo-Yo. May meets Flint and her awesomeness is what he needed to rebuild the monolith.
Mack finds Old Yo-Yo and Kasius. He has a knife to her throat. She begs Mack to go. He doesn’t. Kasius takes the death vial and slits her throat. Then he attacks Mack.
The machine is too damaged to power the monolith. Enoch can do it, but it will kill him, and the succeeding explosion will kill Deke. He and Coulson talk. Deke doesn’t tell him.
Flint isn’t coming with them. He leaves with the servant. Mack and Yo-Yo aren’t back yet.
Kasius is beating the crap out of Mack until Simmons get there. She puts the silencer into his ear. This disorients him enough for Mack to axe him. Yo-Yo runs in and kind of explains.
Enoch has less time than he thought and not everyone is there yet. Fitz asks him to hold on. We see the rest of the team running there.
Tess talks to Flint about second chances on the Trawler.
This got hecka dark. We know from promoland that everyone got back, but oh boy. I needed some tea to calm down from this one. Wow. 9/10.
