Journal Entry #1

I was given a journal as a gift today. However, for some this may seem insignificant, but to one like myself who has very little it is a tremendous gift. The paper and binding of it is gorgeously crafted. I dare say it is just as beautiful as the elven man who gave it to me. I shall treasure these pages always. Perhaps he made it himself? I assume he did, as he smiled brightly when I asked him. He is a sweet fellow for taking the time from his day to think of me.

So very few seemed to in the past. Though as of late, that is subject to change. Since opening our gates we have had several visitors. All of whom seemed rather pleased to be in my presence. This is rather strange to me given my history with others. What is even queerer to me is the unconditional acceptance of my children.

Perhaps there is more to others than I had originally thought. In the same vein of things, I might say that perhaps there is more to me. I often ask myself 'who am I' , 'what am I' , 'do I truly deserve redemptions grace'. I will not pretend as if I have not done terrible crimes against nature itself. Is it truly forgivable? I cannot say. Even if it is not, at the very least I would like to attempt to achieve a version of myself that is beyond what certain types have made me to be.

I now see that I have a choice to stay monstrous or grow beyond it. I say that I wish to try as other have for me. It has become clear that others see something beautiful in me as I am now. I might say that I want to see what they see. As I have not for so long. My children and I may have finally stumbled upon our place in this world.

To celebrate this milestone in our lives I will be documenting our culture, events and moments of kindness among us. I wish for it to be known somewhere that my children are capable of compassion, love and understanding. Though these things were never given to them, they are more that worthy of the experience.

I don't recall feeling so awkward even in casual situations. How embarrassing... No wonder my children lack social skills. They must have learned it from me! *He laments inwardly.* It has been far too long since I've seen civil company on a regular basis..... *He shakes off his thoughts.*

*He clears his throat again. Then speaks honestly* Outsiders find Mordorian flirtation off putting.

For example, keeping eye contact is a sign of deep intimacy. And to do so amidst battle is to recognize the other as an equal. Inviting strangers from a new land and keeping them in place also did not seem go as swimmingly as I expected. *He makes a face of disgust as he remembers his meeting with Galadriel* She did not see the binding as a gesture of binding as a way of being bound to the dinner host as we do in Mordor.

*He sighs and continues* My chances with her are rather slim.

*He shakes off the unease as he speaks of her* I believe that answer should be as good as any. Enjoy the rest of your visit in Mordor. I have other matters of which I must attend to. *He stands from his throne and walks away in haste out of sight*

The reason why Scully and Mulder clicked so quickly and mesh so well as a pair is because they both posses a very natural, intense curiosity. It manifests in different ways, and in slightly different areas of interest, but the spirit is one in the same, and I think they recognize and love this in one another.

Scully is different, and so immediately endearing to Mulder, because she’s the first person to want to know what he thinks, and why he thinks the way he does, instead of writing him off outright. He's an interesting puzzle to her. Even if she’s steadfast in her constant disagreement, her curiosity itself is—in a way—an act of validation, respect, care.

Mulder is so immediately endearing to Scully because the way he thinks is unusual for their profession, and probably refreshing. He's anti-bureaucratic, emotionally sensitive, unapologetically strange. A "lone wolf" yet so open and easily taken by her. It turns out, his curiosity in the supernatural was born from something equally fascinating, and all too rare: his care for other people.

And love is a kind of curiosity… a deliberate interest, a constant desire to know…
