.......i realize this sentence probably reads Very oddly to my non-doom patrol followers. uhh. context doesnt really change or improve this. when i say im distracted by the things on screen being walking talking assholes i mean that VERY literally. that's what they are. the season starts with our characters being propelled into a possible future, a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombie were-butts and the main characters dead. this is set up as The Big Thing they must work through the season to prevent from happening.
the butts themselves being their own distinct species, largely kept imprisoned by a branch of the government dedicated to turning weirdness of this nature into weapons. the butts were let loose during season 1 of the show as a one-off gag. they then returned again in a later season under circumstances i really do not give enough of a shit about to look up. the butts can bite people, turning them into were-butts. on top of that, through some different weird shenanigans, there's also a zombie virus. so there's zombie were-butts.
and i was about to describe the subplot of the most recent episode but frankly typing all that out and it still not making much sense has made me give up. instead just. fucking look at these things. and imagine a serious-ish (in tone) subplot with things that look, and i cannot stress this enough, like THIS. carried across THE SEASON. these things are a big important apocalyptic threat.
these things were juxtaposed this episode with the main cast coming to terms with their rapid aging following the loss of their immortality and dealing with, in their own ways, their impending deaths. all of them full of regrets and wants and worry all while the effects of aging hit them. and through it all they finally come together at the end as a family, determined to go on one last mission together because despite all of them being fuckups throughout their entire extended lifetimes they have each other. each other might be all they have. and then btw we're back to the Butts plotline. fuck dude.
i...appreciate, i think, what they're trying to go for here. but man. the butts plotline really, really does not interest me. like 'i want to stop watching when i see these things on screen' levels of disinterest.
#i LIKED these things as a once or twice off gag#but watching one of them jump around talking about a revolution or holy war against humanity or whatever#was absurd in a Bad way for me. its just too much#its like. its like if the farting donkey from episodes 1-2 of s1 was stretched across The Whole Season#so alongside mr nobody you Also had the Farting Donkey at a similar level of importance
