BangBangCon Festa 2024
I stayed up all night. I have a Bangtan hangover right now. I was a fallen soldier after Boy With Luv. I am glad I own the Love Yourself/Speak Yourself Final Seoul concert dvd so I can always go back and watch it.
Before I fell to the weakness of my sleepy brain, I did manage to get this:
Every member had a segment and every one is fantastic but this particular performance of Jimin's has always enthralled me. It is just so dynamic. No wonder he was given special recognition by the Kim Baek Bong Korean Fan Dance Conservation Society after he performed this for the 2018 Melon Music Awards. I just don't remember ever seeing a full video of it from this front angle. I was thrilled to see the above last night.
Here is the 3J focus Bangtan Bomb video of the performance, however, all we get is a close up of Jimin and not the full scene to see the full fan dance choreography. And here is the full Melon Award BTS performance with all of the members on someone's YouTube channel. Jimin's fan dance segment begins at 15:03. This version offers more wide angles of the choreo than the Bangtan Bomb version.
Anyway. Going to take a nap now.

[2024.12.07 & 2024.12.14] Nikkan Sports - Celebrating his 30th birthday. Yuzuru Hanyu Interview
Tumblr media
2024.12.07
Part 1: [Celebrating his 30th birthday] Yuzuru Hanyu interview: "I can definitely get better in my 30s"
Figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu, who achieved back-to-back gold medals in the Winter Olympics, celebrates his 30th birthday today, the 7th, and is kicking off his nationwide ice show tour "Echoes of Life."
This is the third installment of the "Yuzuru Hanyu ICE STORY" series, where he performs solo and serves as the creative director. The tour begins at Saitama Super Arena and will continue through seven performances in three cities until February next year, weaving a unique story. In a recent exclusive interview, he discussed the progress and changes he has experienced as an athlete in his third year as a professional. (Honorifics omitted hereafter.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At age 19, he won an Olympic gold medal in figure skating. At age 23, he became the first Asian to win two consecutive Olympic titles. At age 27, he turned professional. Hanyu, the extraordinary skater who became the youngest individual recipient of the People's Honor Award, has just celebrated his 30th birthday.
"It hasn't changed. Human DNA inevitably gets damaged with age, but I believe the body changes in both good and bad directions. I want to find the good direction. There are things now that I can feel, which I couldn’t in my teens or 20s. I’m sure I can continue to improve in my 30s. Of course, compared to my teenage years, my recovery cycle, the way I handle tension and pressure, and the development of my muscles have all changed, but by considering how to care for my body and listening to it, I hope to spend each day thinking, 'I’ve definitely gotten better than I was before, and I’ll always get better than yesterday.'"
He has proven his progress through action. During his competitive years, if we put it in extreme terms, the short program (SP) was only 2 minutes and 40 seconds, and the free program was 4 minutes, and those performances happened only once a day. Now, he performs shows lasting 90 to 150 minutes alone.
"For example, in the 'RE_PRAY TOUR' (the second tour from a year ago), after about 40 minutes into the first half of the 50-minute segment, I perform a quadruple jump. By then, I’m already exhausted... but practicing to be able to perform under those conditions is essential."
Before achieving his second consecutive victory at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, he focused on strengthening 'oxidative energy metabolism.' He practiced high-difficulty jumps and ran through his programs, and after giving everything, he would even skate an additional 30 minutes, covering 80 laps (about 11 kilometers) on the rink.
"Back then, I was doing training to build endurance and increase my metabolism, so I practiced skating continuously for 30 minutes. But now, just doing the entire program (for a show) takes an hour and a half (laughs). I focus on 'run-through practices,' and just doing that is enough to feel like my stamina has improved and evolved."
In the previous show, he skated through 12 programs. Additionally, if you include checking the basics of jumps and refining the details, it would take twice as long.
"It inevitably takes more than three hours, so on practice days when I can only secure three hours, it's a tight squeeze to finish everything. On top of that, there’s the timing for building a solid foundation, improving endurance for long skating sessions, and developing explosive power. Ultimately, off-ice and land-based training have also increased. I'm also responsible for the choreography and structure, so I need to make sure there’s enough rest time to improve the quality within that... It's really tough (laughs)."
Third year as a professional. Achieving everything on his own. That’s why he has also progressed as an athlete.
"Until now, I had been taught by coaches, but gradually I became more independent, and after COVID-19, I returned from my base in Canada and started training alone. I realized that if I didn't incorporate knowledge on my own, I wouldn't be able to win, and I would get weaker. I did a lot of research, studying myself. When I was younger, I was taught only the knowledge related to figure skating, but now, through self-study, I look into what the top athletes in other sports are doing, and research the advancements in fields like kinesiology. Recently, I’ve been referencing sports like basketball, thinking about acceleration, stopping, and jumping while repeating movements."
An ice show typically involves 10 to 20 skaters taking turns, but he performs alone. There is no precedent for this anywhere in the world. He has no choice but to carve his own solitary path.
"To begin with, there isn't much scientific knowledge about figure skating. It's a minor sport (considering the number of competitors), and it's difficult to measure movements on a large 30m x 60m rink. That's why I compare it with my own intuition and experience (as a two-time Olympic champion), form hypotheses about whether practicing in this way will yield results, and then go through a process of trial and error. I have a clear goal from the start, and I believe that if I follow these steps, I'll definitely reach it."
At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where he attempted the unprecedented quadruple Axel (4A), he pinned his hopes of success on the 'tendon reflex,' utilizing the elastic energy of the tendons that connect muscles and bones, acting like a 'spring.'
"Actually, I now use two types of tendon reflexes. One type produces power in a very short period of time, while the other generates power over a slightly longer period. I use them differently depending on the situation. As sports science research progresses, I am incorporating this approach into my ice shows as well."
In the previous tour, he performed five consecutive jumps starting with a quadruple toe loop, a feat not recognized in competitions. Yuzuru Hanyu, now 30 years old, continues to perform courageously in a world without limits. The curtain rises on the stage as he promises, 'I will skate with all my heart and soul to give you the best experience possible.'"

Part 2: [Celebrating his 30th birthday] Yuzuru Hanyu interview: "Studying with my own body" - The evolution of his athletic side
In the second part of the solo interview, he looks back on his progress in his third year as a professional and shares his impressions of watching the Paris Olympics this summer.
--Two years have passed since your declaration of intent on July 19, 2022, and you’ve entered your third year as a professional. Looking back, from an athlete’s perspective, are there any areas where you feel you've grown or improved, in terms of measurable progress?
"I've definitely become physically stronger. Plus, what's known as 'thinking while performing.' For example, if I keep thinking about how I need to move, whether it's a jump or an expression, and continue performing, I'll inevitably lose oxygen as I think more and more. Thinking is a tiring task, isn't it? So, I've been skating so much that I can reduce the amount of thinking required. As a result, I feel like the quality of my performance has improved simultaneously. "
--Over the past two years, you’ve essentially been doing all the thinking by yourself. "That's right. I've really been thinking and thinking on my own. It's tough, but because I'm thinking, I have a sense of conviction about my own body. For example, if every day was just about being given instructions (like training methods), I wouldn't have the time to think, 'Is this really the right approach...?!' It would just be a daily routine of doing without questioning. In that case, it feels like the only thing I can remember is what I'm taught."
--Compared to when you were competing, have there been any significant changes in the way you look after yourself, your diet, or your lifestyle schedule?
"I really feel like I've improved since I turned professional. The way I use my body is completely different now, and the way I build it has also changed a lot. Even the timing of my meals has changed. For example, when I was in Toronto, Canada, I had to adjust for the time difference. Eating is also a moment where energy is consumed. So, I constantly think about when to eat and how to replenish my energy. But digesting what I've eaten actually takes a lot of physical energy. It's surprising, but it's true. After eating something heavy, it feels like I get tired, in a way. So, I have to be mindful of when to allocate time for using that energy or when my blood is flowing for digestion. I try to be conscious of that, and also, I want to make sure that nutrients get into my body without using too much energy. So, I'm always thinking about what kind of food I should eat and what I should intake. I've started to think about these things much more carefully compared to when I was competing. I do feel like I've evolved in this regard."
--Literally, there's nothing but evolution.
"I think it's the same as the progress of science (laughs). Scientists work in a lab, managing budgets and conducting experiments to produce results, right? In my case, it's like I'm conducting research using my own body. So, I believe I'm always evolving. For example, there are studies out there that may not directly relate to our real lives. Even if research results are produced, one might wonder, 'But what does that mean for me?' For instance, if research in quantum mechanics advances, we might still ask, 'How does that directly connect to our lives?' There are things like that. You can't know right now, at this moment. I, too, experience moments in my skating practice where I try something, but it doesn’t yield the results I expected. But when that happens, I just think, "Okay, that didn’t work—so maybe I’ll try this next time," constantly moving forward while thinking about what to do next. In the end, I think it all leads to evolution as a result."
--You practice, think, and prepare not only the technical aspects but also the structure of the performance and the direction of the show itself... I imagine you don’t get enough sleep, so have there been more nights when you can’t sleep? When you were an athlete, I assume you focused on ensuring you got enough sleep.
"Basically, the amount of time I need to spend on skating has increased. So, not only do I need to eat, but I also need to sleep, and I have to calculate when and how much time I should allocate for each. I can only live by calculating everything. There have been days when I couldn't sleep at all, but on the other hand, I'm always thinking, ‘Yesterday I could only sleep this much, but today, I might be able to sleep during this gap. How much time can I make up?' It’s a tough balance."
--This summer, the Summer Olympics took place in Paris. It's been two and a half years since the Beijing Olympics.  I imagine this was the first Olympics you watched from a professional standpoint. How did you feel about it?
"Yes, indeed. From an outside perspective, I think that the Olympics are viewed as 'entertainment' for the people. The topic of judo, the excitement around skateboarding, and the newly introduced breaking were all part of that. In that context, the opportunity for the general public to watch these sports, even if they don’t know much about them, is something that can only happen at the Olympics. I also felt once again that, for us, being able to perform and achieve results in that moment is everything. However, I also realized that we should not become complacent just because we’ve achieved a result, and that people will find us cool in the future if we continue to push forward."

Unit 10 - Final Blog Post
Prompt: Describe your ethics as you develop as a nature interpreter. What beliefs do you bring? What responsibilities do you have? What approaches are most suitable for you as an individual?
Introduction
As this is mine and our class's final blog post week, I would like to start by saying I've learned so much through not only the course but all of my peers! Reading the weekly blogs was so fun and presented a different way of learning new things, especially with the freedom of the prompts it was always so fascinating to see what directions people took it in. That being said let’s get into this week's prompt!
My Ethics
When starting this course, I was not sure what kind of interpreter I wanted to be or what that truly meant. However, now I can confidently say I'm starting to find my way in this new skill of environmental interpretation, learning as I go, of course! I find ethics such a complex and interesting topic as comes from a philosophy minor it is something often discussed. What I believe is important and what I bring to interpretation is trying to open our eyes past what we are currently seeing in the media and focus on our planet! The current political state of North America is very messy, and with a potential upcoming spring federal election for Canada approaching it is now time to speak up about our climate goals. The Green Party in Canada only holds two seats, one in BC and one here in Ontario. Smaller parties are often overshadowed and with everything currently happening… who is surprised? That is why I think we as interpreters need to ensure to represent the overshadowed topics and unrepresented parties who stand with the environment because it often feels like these topics are left in the rearview mirror.
*Feel free to read up about what the Green Party supports!
Plans – Green Party Of Canada
In Chapter 5 of the textbook, there is a section called “promoting perception”. In this section, they discuss how in the end interpreters are helping people perceive the world that surrounds them more realistically and truthfully (Beck, Cable and Knudson, 2018). This relates to my ethics well because I believe so strongly we are often taking nature for granted due to the lack of discussion surrounding important environmental topics.
TED Talk
Bjorn Lomborg: Global priorities bigger than climate change | TED Talk
This TED Talk is titled “Global Priorities Bigger than Climate Change”, the video is about 17 minutes but it is just a good way to show, and help understand how complicated decision-making is and just shows how complex ethics is because we all may have different ‘priorities’. The overall point of the talk is to show how much goes into decision-making and outweighs the pros and cons. People do not know this, and it allows for a false understanding of how the world truly runs. If you have time, I suggest watching it because it presents a transparent and honest message of some of the hard realities.
*Also an interesting note on the video is it was made in 2005, but even 20 years later now in 2025 the same ideas still apply and we still see this in our everyday world.
My approaches
Chousing just a certain number of approaches can be so difficult because as we have seen all semester throughout the course the multiple different ways we can interpret nature! However, I find education a great way to share my interpretations of nature with others. Education feels most effective to me as it can be modified to best suit different age levels, understanding levels and so much more. Another important factor of education that must not be forgotten is the accessibility of this education; therefore education should not be limited to school settings, bringing it into public settings such as library programs, summer camps, television segments, and books/ cartoons… the possibilities are endless. My approaches need to be something that can be shared, I want to ensure messages stick and people keep talking about what I must say/show/interpret/promote… which leads us into responsibilities.
My responsibilities
As an interpreter what makes me feel good or makes me feel like I did my part is when I feel I have truly spread a message. I feel as a nature interpreter it is one point to ensure they understand the message you are sharing but it is another thing to see they are promoting/sharing your message! I want to see that the topic stuck around in their minds, I want to see them share with friends and family. Most importantly I want to open as many eyes as I can to a bigger picture. I feel it is the responsibility of nature interpreters to help people take a step back and allow the world to care about nature as we do! We also have a responsibility to guide upcoming generations, to ensure that nature interpretation never ends. Assuring we remember to accommodate towards the different abilities and comforts of the groups we are guiding, it is important to remember you are responsible for how the message comes across, I know I need to make sure things sound as they should!
Conclusion
Overall, there is still a lot for me to learn as an interpreter, but I believe we all bring something different to the table and that is important and necessary. Sharing our ethics and skills we bring can bring like-minded people together and help further connections and friendships. I hope we all continue our interpretation skills in the future! I hope to see real change for our planet!

NieR Automata anime episode 6
Continuing commentary from [part 1], [part 2-3], and [part 4-5].
Ooof, I left myself with a big not-so-live blog backlog again. Never done that before! [shoves The Flower That Bloomed Nowhere under a blanket]
So where we left off, I'd covered the Simone episode and the Pascal episode. OK! Next up we have... the YoRHa stage play episode!
episode 6
This episode recounts the story of the YoRHa stage musical! Putting it alongside four different productions of the play, the official novelisation, the text version in the game from Anemone's point of view, and the ongoing manga YoRHa: Pearl Harbour Descent Record. You can never have too many.
In the present frame story, Lily walks with 2B (who looks almost the same as her old friend YoRHa No. 2) and tells her of the past events.
If you're not familiar with the play by the way, it's just about the sickest shit. Youtube won't embed this for some reason but here's the intro number Normandy...
Just like in the play, this episode of the anime tells the story of an experimental YoRHa unit on a mission to attack a machine lifeform server in Hawaii, and the android resistance unit they encounter, the gradual process of building trust between the two groups of androids, and their eventual brutal deaths as it turns out that the YoRHa command never actually intended for any of them to survive the mission.
Tumblr media
The cast is broadly similar to most versions of the play, but in keeping with this version of the story, here Lily rather than Anemone is the focus and sole survivor of the Resistance unit. Not that this really makes a huge difference in practice.
Where the anime really benefits is that it can convey the setting a lot more clearly than a play or even a manga. This episode is full of lush forests, and the mountains of Hawaii loom in the background.
Given they're compressing the events of a two hour stage play into a twenty minute episode, naturally a lot needs to be cut, but they do a very solid job of making it flow through montages and character moments. And of course we get the key moments in the play still: Lily getting infected with the Logic Virus and being saved from a mercy-kill by the intervention of YoRHa No. 21. Added in this version are some embellishments; when No. 21 hacks Lily, she gets a brief glimpse of some memories:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These flash by too quickly to really see what's happening in the episode, but it appears that Lily was being sexually assaulted by another android, but Captain Rose intervened and invited her to the Resistance unit? I believe this storyline is further elaborated in the manga, but I haven't read that far.
The portrayal of the Logic Virus, and the earlier Red Eye Disease (basically the same thing), varies across the series. Often it's just mindless violence disease, but at its best, it exposes the simmering tensions and resentments in the character - something emphasised to great effect in the YoRHa Boys play. Here, Lily resents her helplessness - that she is always the one who has to be protected. We also get a new physical symbol of a relationship: the bullet which Rose fires at Lily and No. 2 deflects. The addition of water to the scene adds to the staging.
Another benefit of the anime is that it can portray the scale of the machine army in a way the play can't. The CG in this episode is not exactly great, but we do see swarms of machines crawling up towards the mountain...
Tumblr media
Notably at this stage the Machine Lifeforms clearly haven't yet developed the Stubby models - they're this kind of insectoid orb design, similar to Ko-shi and Ro-shi in the game (as well as the individual segments of Hegel). It's a nice visual way to show how the machine lifeforms are developing.
The final battle montage is very well edited in general, hitting the key moments of the play without getting bogged down in details. Anemone is once again the one to stay behind to mercy-kill No. 21 after she gets infected (which explains why she survived). However, as a new addition in this version, Lily and Rose are told to evacuate before the final confrontation with the Red Girls, and Rose sends Lily up alone. Lily tries to kill herself, but Rose once again prevents it, and orders Lily to preserve the YoRHa squad in memory. The theme of memory being core to NieR...
Tumblr media
At the end, we get our first brief glimpse of A2, who survived - with Lily still unaware. A closeup of her chin mole confirms her identification with No. 2.
The credits are also different this time, a gradual pan over the YoRHa squad members, fading away in turn as the familiar ED song Antimony plays. The final shot is notable...
Tumblr media
The timid Lily of the past reaches out and clasps the hand of the Lily of the future who now leads the Resistance.
Honestly, despite the fact I've seen so many versions of this story, it's still affecting. I watched it again to write this post and got caught up watching the episode. It's full of quite wacky turns if I'm honest, like let's be real nothing YoRHa (the military organisation) does makes much tactical sense, but the core character dynamics are strong and they're well captured here so it never really matters.
The post-credits puppet skit this time focuses on Adam and Eve getting dressed up in uniforms. Eve is in gakuen and Adam is in a suit, each of which gets a pinup-style illustration to go with it (we get a full pan up from the feet)...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eve annoys adam until he decides to just leave...
Tumblr media
Yeah, that's it.
That's as much as I'm up to writing up now, but lots more NieR to cover until we're caught up!
Huge props to [GLORY] for the excellent fansubs.

can we get some info on myrah plz? 🤞🏾
Tumblr media
"I never said she wasn't talented. I just said she wasn't good."
Said during an AllTalkMe episode between her and former Allume member Bora, Myrah would openly criticize their former member Sooah, who she had publicly feuded with for years at this point.
"I never said she wasn't talented. I just said she wasn't good." Bora laughs into her microphone at Myrah's deadpanned statement before turning away, covering her mouth. Myrah, with one hand out and wrist limp, chuckles like she doesn't get the joke before looking at the camera, the video zooming in on her.
"What? It's the truth."
"Yawn! Next."
Most of these are from AllTalkMe, but this was a reaction to her and Bora getting an ad for a DeepDive music video which she instantly skipped. Later, Myrah would admit to not even knowing who DeepDive was, saying: "I don't listen to boy groups. I barely listen to Kpop."
"Well, if I owned a company, I would also a slut. Who wouldn't?"
She said this during an Instagram live when someone asked for her thoughts on the Angelico vs. Baebi trial. She'd also go on to say...
"Yeah, totally on her side. I'll be honest, she could've beaten his ass, and I would still be on her side. Sue men if you can."
"Sue men." Would soon become a popular term used on Twitter primarily. She would then go on to make a tank top with the phrase on it, putting it for sale on her merch store where it would sell out in 30 minutes.
"We kiss sometimes."
Immortalized by a fan-taken video during Paris Fashion Week 2018, Myrah was signing autographs for fans waiting for her outside the building. Waiting patiently and holding her Metallic Birkin 25 was her boyfriend of two years, Gong Yoo. When asked by an unknowing reporter if they were together, Myrah would laugh and tell him: "We kiss sometimes." With a shrug.
"Sometimes I wanted to rip your hair out and shake you until you got what I was saying, but you always meant the world to me, you know? That's true love to me. We're in love."
Said during the fifth-anniversary episode of AllTalkMe between Myrah and Bora. The pair reminisced on their time together and their friendship. Bora, who would be quietly crying during this spill, would sniffle and nod before giving Myrah a simple finger heart then bursting into tears. Myrah would burst out in laughter, dabbing her eyes as tears would slip out.
"Just fucking do your job. Your job is to sing and dance. Sing and dance!"
Known to run her generation like the navy, this iconic quote would be shouted during a rather tense practice session that was filmed for the Allume documentary. Myeah would actually yell this at member Sora and surprisingly not Sooah, who she would later go on to snap at for missing a beat.
"Stop asking us about groups we're not in. We don't care."
Myrah would interrupt an interviewer when they would start to ask her about BigBang. In her defense, this was the fourth boy group the interviewer had asked the girls about, and Myrah was over it.
"Why would I have children? I'm too hot and successful to take care of a child. Be serious."
Another iconic quote from an Instagram live stream. Ever since Myrah turned 30, she's been constantly asked if and when she'll become a mother. Though she's been mothering since 2000, Myrah has stated multiple times she has no plans to actually birth a child and will continue to focus on her career until she dies.
"Never date an idol. Idols don't last unless you're me but-"
This piece of advice was given to a viewer of AllTalkMe during their call-in segment, which has since been discontinued. Due to her inflections and quickness, this was one of the first clips of Myrah to go viral. Plus, Bora's reaction of bursting out into laughter, hitting the desk, and falling over in her chair was the cherry on top.

And it’s opened a lot of people’s eyes, not only in terms of storyline, but every comment: “It’s so nice to see two gay masculine characters on TV.” I don’t even know when would that happen? A friend of mine was like, “Whenever it’s two gay characters, typically it’s gay actors playing gay characters and everybody knows they’re gay.” If this was two other actors, for instance, you would probably be like, “They’re going to kiss.” But I think because Oliver and I are so masculine, it definitely caught everybody by surprise. I used the perception of me to my advantage through what really lives in here, through the character.
Source: https://x.com/decider/status/1854879341835931802?t=vP_JsCfkJz_zp8FtcHm0mQ&s=19
Would love to hear your thoughts!
Okay, so. I just read this full segment in the interview, and I definitely have thoughts. There are two key things I want to focus on here; the phrasing, and what I think he meant.
Because, just as with Oliver’s interviews, the phrasing is bugging me here. Specifically, the “whenever it’s two gay characters, typically it’s gay actors playing gay characters and everybody knows they’re going to kiss” bit. Specifically because that’s not true. Let’s use Glee as our example. Kurt Hummel, Blaine Anderson, and Sebastian Smythe are all openly gay characters in Glee. Only one of them is played by an openly gay actor; Kurt, played by Chris Colfer. Blaine was played by Darren Criss, who’s been married to Mia Swier since 2019. Sebastian was played by Grant Gustin, who’s been married to Andrea Thoma since 2018. Gay characters are, in fact, more likely to be played by straight actors than gay actors, so I don’t know where “his friend” pulled that little nugget of bullshit from.
Moving onto what I think his point was. Before I begin, I want to make it clear that this part is pure speculation. I’m not sure what he actually meant, and I never will be. I don’t know him, I’m not in his head. This part all comes down to your individual interpretation of the comments. Personally, I want to believe that he simply means that it was nice to see a show subvert stereotypes and portray two “typically masculine” queer men in a relationship, but I’m homestly not sure what he meant, and that’s the issue here. I can see why people are upset about this specific comment. It definitely comes across as…questionable, at least in terms of phrasing.

A list of media about Fucked Up Houses TM
I've been brainstorming for my capstone recently and have amassed a decently sized list of stuff in this niche and I wanted to compile it here.
CRITERIA: Has a Fucked Up House TM in it and has a focus on the setting itself. Some of these are solely hostile architecture, some are more traditional hauntings or have sci-fi elements, but the focus remains on the House.
PROSE:
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. On here for obvious reasons.
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Also here for obvious reasons.
Conditions of Absolute Reality by tin_tweezers on AO3. This is a Critical Role fanfic and has major campaign two spoilers, but even without knowledge of the series, its imagery is very striking. Heed the tags for content warnings.
Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George. Ok, this one's an outlier. This is actually a children's book series I read in elementary school that has stuck with me to this day. The ever-changing castle is actually (generally) benevolent and protective of its royal family, but I wanted to include it anyway.
MOVIES/TV:
Haunting of Hill House (the 2018 miniseries). Drastically different from the book it's vaguely based on, but still about a Fucked Up House full of 2937423947 ghosts, and it's just a generally excellent story about grief.
Magnetic Rose (1995, part of the anthology Memories). The first entry of three in an anthology of animated short(ish) films and the animation is stunning. Fucked Up House but in outer space!
Ghostwatch (1992). This one's a pretty standard ghost haunting movie, but it was filmed as a mockumentary like it was airing as a live news tv segment (and then it aired on the BBC and concerned a lot of viewers.) Earned a place on this list because it scared the shit out of me. It's the kind of lurking horror that has you questioning every closed door and dark hallway and corner of the house.
PODCASTS:
I Am In Eskew. This series is about a Fucked Up City instead of a single House, but it's got so many themes of hostile architecture I had to include it. Plus, it's only 30 episodes, so it's not a super long listen.
Mabel. Feywild shit. It's trippy and cool. Unfortunately hasn't been updated since 2022 though, and I'm not sure if there are plans to continue the story.
MUSIC:
House of Eternal Return by Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley
Haunted House by Florence and the Machine. Pretty simple lyrically but it sounds haunting in a way I can't explain idk
MISC.
Control, Anatomy, and the Legacy of the Haunted House, a video essay by Jacob Geller. This video is fucking phenomenal (just like all this guy's video essays) and is largely what inspired me to compile this list in the first place. It talks about several video games which I haven't played, but check them out they seem neat.
FINAL SIDE NOTE: I have a shortage of comics/graphic novels that fit into this niche, please please recommend me some if you know any. Or just any media that fits this in general thanks

Ghost of Ramblings: Dad of Boi
Tumblr media
Started a New game plus Recently
I have been playing God of War from Ascension in chronological order over the past few months and I've finally made my way back to GoW 2018 and it's new game plus.
It's been a hot minute since I played the NG+ and it took even more minutes to adjust to it's combat after playing Classic GoW for so long. I got hooked on Ghost of Sparda and GoW3 for quite a while.
The whole while I was just taking in how beautiful the whole game is. Remembering the story beats or how this one game got me into the whole series. My god slayer journey began here with Dad of Boi.
Tumblr media
I was reminded of how good its story truly is. How tightly written and delivered it's dialogue is. The nuances of Kratos hit harder too since I have played classic GoW this time unlike my first time playing Dad of Boi.
Back then all I had was curious youtube and wiki searches to get a grasp of Kratos' world. It's hard to explain but it truly does feel different if you play GoW 2018 after playing, at minimum, GoW 1, 2 and 3.
Hell, I'd even argue that GoW 2018 will hit different after plaything through it's own sequel Ragnarok. I know Ragnarok has some harsh critics, I'm not one of them, but it is hard to deny that it's predecessor is just written better.
Every little story in the boat, every little dialogue when exploring, the whole adventure is a bonding and learning moment for Atreus and Kratos. Every scene with Odin's kin, the parallel to Freya and Baldur in particular, shows what Kratos is trying to avoid.
A pacing and blend so well done that I'd call it a lightning in the bottle moment.
Tumblr media
I love this scene ^^^^
Nothing in this world is perfect mind you but it's hard to talk about GoW 2018 and not praise its story.
Of course, Ragnarok is still an improvement in gameplay overall. I had grown too addicted to the customization options for appearance. The very fact that I can unlock and play young Kratos in Ragnarok is amazing to me.
It does make me wonder what went wrong in the story department of Ragnarok though. As I said, I'm no harsh critic of Ragnarok but I can't deny it has pacing issues.
Thankfully they added scene skip so even the Atreus segments can be skimmed on repeat playthroughs. They didn't bother me on the first run but I can only handle so many two hour stretches of Atreus wandering Ironwood.
Tumblr media
I've always heard rumors that it's because they chose to make the Norse story a duology which I could believe. Ragnarok feels like it needed to be the third game not the second one.
The whole personality shift of Freya truly does feel rushed. As beautiful as that scene is when she lets go it needed more time to be truly believable.
I also think it would've made her conflicted feelings more conceivable if she had witnessed Kratos' memories in some magical mumbo jumbo way. It's hard to imagine he's talk so freely about his family yet I also think it's crucial for Freya to shift the focus of her rage after hearing about Calliope.
Kratos did do her wrong while trying to do something right but I think that would only get through to Freya if she saw that moment. Kratos was by no means a good person but his love for his family was real and it drove him to a madness that ended a pantheon.
Kratos is easily the only man there that understands her feelings.
Tumblr media
I glitched the blades in these scenes somehow
But even this is a minor complaint. I do not consider the narrative of Ragnarok worth some harshness I see it get. It's badly paced to be sure but it's not offensive.
If anything, I hope they learn from it for their new projects. I have next to no interest in Atreus since he genuinely is annoying in Ragnarok but I wouldn't mind giving him a shot in a spin off if they learn from it.
Or, ya know, send him to Greece. I do not care how annoying the boy of war is. I would pay them money to see him walk through Greece and see the monster that his father was.
I'd even give them my respect if Atreus realized just how hard Kratos worked to channel his bottomless rage into a weapon to use. I know many fans hate how weak Kratos seems to be now and I personally find the "holding back" excuse weak on the devs part.
So I relate a bit. I do not fully agree since I began the series with 2018 so my opinion is forever biased on such topics.
Tumblr media
I have no real point to make with this post by the way. I am just gushing about a game I like and rambling about the contrast it has to it's own sequel or predecessors.
The whole of my praise is also limited to GoW 2018's narrative. In terms of world building or story consistency I could rip the God of War series apart.
The classic games weren't exactly consistent with some things like the potential paradox of using Fates threads, Kratos losing that time travel power in 3 despite using it moments prior in 2's ending, or the whole ambiguity of his godhood. (I wont even get into the last minute hope thing in 3)
It's not a mess like I'd rant about with Kingdom Hearts or Bleach. Sure, there are some details in a novelization or two, a comic story here or there, but it's nothing you need to know.
Kratos even references a novel detail in Ragnarok. When asked why he doesn't just throw his blades away Kratos will retort with an annoyed statement that he "tried".
Tumblr media
Step into the light Boy
That doesn't confirm a novel as 100% valid but it does show subtly that the blades follow him against his will.
My own personal take on Kratos' continued godhood is also a curse. He's got to live as what he despises most until something powerful enough finally kills him in a way where he won't burst out of Hel's gates.
That's a tangent all its own I think. I just felt like rambling a bit, there's even a lot I left out. Like the pure pointlessness of a lock-on in either game due to how often the enemies dart around and break the targeting.
I wonder what many of you think about 2018 now that Valhalla has come and gone. Ragnarok may have been hit or miss for many but Valhalla is nearly as good as 2018 I feel.
Though, not having young Kratos speak with his original voice actor in that one scene felt like a missed opportunity imo.
Oh well, I'm done now. Bye~

Shadows of the Night, Shadows of the Self
Tumblr media
Recommended Tea: Berry Fusion (for maximum effect... cold)
In this post, I'd like to explore the Edmund in all of us. In my previous two rereads (2012/2019), I sped right through this part of the book. It didn't register Edmund might reveal something till Chapter 8. But as that's a bit in the future, let's dive into where the narrative stands at present.
Chapter 3 - Roots of Betrayal
I've been treating my reading like I do my movies of late. Before it was, "Hey what a relatable story; I'm [Character]." Now it's like Narnia: not only is it dream-like, everything reflects a part of the whole. I'm not one character; I see myself in all of them. I reflected on how trying my hand at a story, I recognized all the protagonists were really facets of myself (my strengths, weaknesses, my faults and fears). It took until recently to see I also cast myself in the villain's role.
So how does Edmund factor into that? Simple: all of us possess a side of ourselves we shield, we mask, from the outside world. All of us possess a private self (as it should be). I'll save the majority of my thoughts on that for Edmund's character development later.* For now, let's focus on temptation.
Tumblr media
The Witch's temptation comes on two levels: on the surface, there's the child, lured by sweets. On a deeper level, she lures Edmund into what he covets and craves: power. As explored in Devin Brown's book, it's part of the power dynamic: Edmund wants to dominate. He isn't the oldest boy (Peter) and resents the substitute mother (Susan); he can only lord anything over Lucy, but he wants more, hence how he acts at school. Like any villain, Jadis doesn't say, "Go do this." She suggests; Edmund freely chooses what he does wrong. No one forces him to.
Lewis explores the proper placement of pleasure in a healthy and adjusted life in "The Screwtape Letters." One doesn't have to be a Christian to see the point, validated by Buddhist teachings as well as the search for harmony in Confucianism. One craves what one shouldn't because it reminds one of what one should. As I've told my students if they start cursing up a blue streak, "I don't argue with your emotion. I argue with your expression of it."
Much more to explore, but for now I'll leave you with this to ponder.
Confronting Jadis since October 18th, Parzival
* And if I'm being honest, it's because I misplaced my notes from when I read it before Christmas :-(
Time travel segment soundtrack
1 - A favorite more and more (and since it makes me actually want to dance, that leads to...) 2 - Selected because of memories (2014), breaking free of the time loop (2018) and having zero foreknowledge of the ending clip (I wasn't even watching; I prefer to make my own mental movies) 3 - Chosen from the feeling I got starting the second verse above (and something tells me I'm not alone), the duration reminding me of an unforgettable night in 2008 4 - Because I already liked it, the words resonating with new meaning, (and the image always in mind when "I see you now") 5 - Echoes of past emotional memory, present shivers; the rest... classified (awaiting authorization by the Boss, and no, I don't mean Bruce, goober. Geez!)
Composition
Well now see I don't know; hasn't this all been about temptation? We're pretty far down the rabbit hole at this juncture, aren't we? This is the Restricted Section, Hermione... for now; maybe if you pay to play though...? Brew that Polyjuice potion. I won't tell if you don't ;-)

Note
https://www.tumblr.com/dearweirdme/733069545659564032/idk-why-the-upcoming-travel-vlog-is-a-touchy
I wouldn't call it a sensitive matter, but if a particular segment of the fandom (cough, Taekookers, cough) is feeling upset about this, I don't see any issue with that as long as it doesn't lead to hatred toward other members. That's where I draw the line. This isn't your typical BTS content where all members are expected to be present. It's a bit more complex. I think the issue arises from the company's focus on specific pairs most of the time. I'm not implying a conspiracy, but content related to YOONMIN, NAMKOOK, MINIMONI, VMIN, NAMGI, etc., could have been included and celebrated with same enthusiasm over the 10 years.
I believe Jungkook is telling the truth when he mentioned that Jimin wanted to do this, and the company seized the opportunity. If Taekook shippers have an issue with it, they have a right to be. Jikook and Taekook are two of the biggest ships in the fandom. So, if the company focuses solely on one pair and not the other, it's not fair to Taekook enthusiasts or even ARMY who want to see Taekook content. It also sets a certain narrative that can lead to unwarranted hate towards Taehyung (even by OT7). There's no concrete proof or statements regarding any pairing's realness; it's mostly fan speculation, which may or may not be accurate. But to overlook Taekook as a pair for official content, especially for ARMY who believe no member is in a romantic relationship, is setting the stage for unnecessary criticism.
As you've mentioned before, and I agree, Taekook has matured and can handle being on camera together just fine. I can understand any concerns up until 2018, but beyond that, it seems like it's taking a long time to establish that Taehyung can do something for Jungkook without people jumping to conclusions. When people wonder why Taehyung gets more hate, this is a part of the answer. Even now we see Taekook more together in ads than company content. I'm not accusing the company of any malicious intent; they likely made these decisions to protect the members and themselves, but that doesn't mean these decisions can't be flawed. I apologize for the lengthy rant, but it's clear that the company did dirty to Taekookers in this regard.
And people say we are unhinged when most of the things we get are either from the artists or third party sightings. Trust me I understand why jkkrs looks so delulu.
Hi anon!
Found it!! (assuming this is the ask in question..)
Mmm, that is a complex thing actually right? Because the way we look at this kinda has to do with which perspective we take (though perhaps the outcome is the same on all accounts, just the way we get to it might differ). Gonna think out loud a bit..
If we take the most neutral perspective, that would be that of Armies who don't believe in ships. I kinda wonder if they even think about stuff like this. Do non shippers miss company Taekook content? I really don't know. I think perhaps some might have the same reaction some Tkkrs have to Jkk content. They associate Taekook with Tkkrs and are therefore more busy with fandom reaction than with the actual content. But then again, I follow some (I think..though you never know) neutral blogs and those are always happy to see Tae and Jk together. In general my take is that neutral army does not have the same call for Tkk content as we do... whereas I have seen a call for Vmin content when there was a lack thereof. I'm sure neutrals would love to see Tae and Jk together in something, but I don't know if the demand is actually that high.
Now, let's take the company's perspective... I am of the opinion that the company does not treat both ships equaly, because they know one is not actually a ship. That does change things, because there is the adition of having to keep it a secret.. and.. extra Tkk content will surely get huge fandom reactions. Taking into account that there's arguably more Tkkrs than Jkkrs already.. I'd say they perceive it as an actual risk. That does not necessarily mean that the risk is as high as they perceive it, but they will always base their decisions on worst case scenarios. They protect their business and a part of that is keeping 'scandals' away. Is that unfair? Definitely, the whole closeting situation is unfair. Is it with bad intentions? I mean.. partly? It does actually protect Tae and Jk's privacy and relationship, because imagine the whole world and media being all over them. I'd say the worst thing is that they aren't allowed to be openly queer. Privacy and openness about sexuality should be up to them, and I think the company does have a say in that. I don't know how much of the pairing of Yoonmin, Hopemin, Vmin we got this year is the company's idea or the result of members preferences. I tend to believe Jimin and Yoongi and Jimin and Hobi are actually close and that therefore them being in official content together is natural. But, there's also obviously pr benefits there. People hate me for this, but Jm at Tae's fanmeeting was pr for both.. does that mean their connection is less real? No. Things can be both and it was clear that they both enjoyed being able to do this together. Same goes for Jm and Jk's travelvlog stuff. It's nice that they get to do that together and I think they had a blast and both wanted to do it. But the purpose of it is to entertain Army. And that is where the difference becomes clear in how the company treats Taekook... because I am fairly sure we would never have gotten a Taekook travelvlog (omg how hilarious would that be.. for us 😂)if Tae and Jk had wanted to do it. Sure we get them interacting on lives and they might even do a live together at one point, but actual company released footage... I don't think it's in the stars for us. But... then again you never know and we might just get lucky someday. Sure, not all members get to pair up.. we don't really see Namjoon do anything with anyone as much, but the thing is that Tae and Jk are amongst the closest (if not closest... yes, closest!) pairing and they do not get put together on official content. Unfair or protection? I don't know.. maybe also both.
So our perspective (as Tkkrs) we will always think of it as unfair. We want as much as we can get and we are [rotective of them and we think we know what they themselves would want at times. Do Tae and Jk actually want to be doing something offical together? And to what extent? I still have some hopes for Tae going to support Jk publicly somewhere. I think him being in Suchwita (which could have been edited out) was a step. But I don't think it's going to be much bigger steps than that. Perhaps they'll go to some awardshows together, or with Jimin as well? I think their relationship with Tkkrs is complex. Though it might feel justifying in some way, us screaming too loudly will increase their unsafety. Tkkrs in comments being too bold is annoying for that same reason. They can't come out, so don't push them. I think the company's relationship is equally complex, but obviously not emotionally based. They too have to walk a line between making use of them and keeping them a secret.
Lastly, we have the perception of other ships, mainly Jkkrs. To them, Jm and Jk doing a travelvlog together is proof. I mean, it's probably gonna be worse than the Tokyo GCF. That sucks because I already know the amount of straws in my inbox will be insane and their takes on it will make me cringe out of embarresment and annoyance. But.. that does not mean Jk and Jm shouldn't be able to do this stuff. They want to, they enjoy it.. and I will just avoid straws for a while until things have settled.
I am gonna enjoy seeing Jm and Jk together so much. I love them, love the way they interact and I think it's gonna be super funny. Sure things might be unfair on some level (I don't actually think I have a strong conclusion in here somewhere), but to me that does not stand in the way of enjoying whatever content we get. I think this whole situation makes it hard to be fair to everyone in all aspects.

People writing long diatribes about the US elections need to shut the fuck up forever imo, don’t care who that offends. Like 1) you’re on the gay and/or female majority site where most ppl here are liberals. Of course we’re voting for Kamala, like stfu. Over half the “vote third party/don’t vote in protest” ppl are Russian bots, as this happens every election now due to its success in 2016. And the rest are either too young to vote or are trolls.
But more importantly, 2) the issue isn’t about who to vote for, but about getting out to vote period. Elections in America are mostly an issue of turnout, not who to vote for. Most Americans are liberal or at least are more aligned with the Democratic Party. The problem is just many don’t care or don’t see the point in voting. Or they have circumstances that make voting such an inconvenience that they just forgo it. It’s fucked up, but the issue is really about encouraging ppl to get out and vote. Not really convincing people to vote for one person over another.
Ppl weren’t excited to vote for Biden. Despite polls, I truly believe Biden still would have won because we saw last election that ppl will turn out to vote AGAINST someone like Trump. But it would be close (like it was last time) and a bit harder because this time, everyone in the country isn’t automatically getting mail in ballots due to is not being in lockdowns anymore (the mail in ballots were overwhelmingly for Biden; which makes sense as democrats/liberals were more likely to take Covid restrictions seriously and this wouldn’t want to stand in line in crowds to vote). My point being the fear was that not enough ppl will show up to vote AGAINST someone like trump if they don’t have someone they were excited to vote FOR. You see it with Trump supporters: they turn out in record numbers every time. You get more turnout when ppl are excited to vote FOR someone rather than against someone else.
And that’s why Kamala is so exciting. Taylor Swift said to vote and there were immediately hundreds of thousands of swifties, mostly young people, who registered to vote within 24 hours. Fox News keeps running segments freaking out about Taylor possibly supporting Kamala (since she hasn’t publicly said anything yet, I’m speculating she’s going to appear at the dnc, but we’ll see lol. Could be wishful thinking), telling Taylor to focus on performing instead of politics (though it’s fine for them for kid rock, hulk hogan, and amber rose, as well as streamers and influencers like adin ross and keemstar and the paul brothers to wear maga hats while streaming and share their support of trump publicly to their millions of fans and viewers). But the reason that bothers them because those young people who, lbr, aren’t already registered and ready to vote were likely not going to vote at all. But because Taylor said to vote, now they will. And republicans know young people, ESPECIALLY young women, do not like their policies and will vote against them. And if people who were going to stay home decide to come out and vote, that means they’re more likely to vote blue. And that means they’ll lose.
That’s why research shows positive Kamala ads work better than negative ads about Trump. The more ppl see from Kamala and Tim, the more they like them. And the more motivated they are to vote. Poll after poll shows people are excited to vote. People who weren’t previously are now back in play. And all signs point to that indicating they’re going to vote Harris-Walz. Because when you get ppl excited to vote, they often vote left! It happens in 2008 with Obama. It happened in 2018 and 2022 in our midterm elections where Democrats outperformed expectations, in midterm elections where turnout was much higher than typical turnout for those elections. It happened in 2020 when turnout rates hit record highs in the us. It will likely happen again this time too.
It’s all about getting ppl, ESPECIALLY YOUNG PEOPLE, out to vote. And ppl outside American writing sanctimonious posts about who we should vote for need to stfu. Yall don’t understand our politics nearly as much as you think you do. And idk who’s feelings this hurts but Americans don’t care about foreign policy. And yes it’s by design and yes we should, but again 1) on this site, your preaching to the choir because WE’RE the few Americans who do care and 2) yall aren’t even making the foreign policy argument in a way to get these careless Americans to care. Americans are super individualistic, so they’re going to think foreign issues are YALLS issue to work out. “We got enough problems of our own to be worried about the rest of the world.” This is verbatim what I hear almost every time I try to talk to a regular American about foreign policy. They just don’t fucking care.
And you can bitch and moan about how selfish that is but bitching and moaning isn’t going to make us care lol. A much better way to frame it is “do you want your tax dollars to go to bombing kids in Gaza or feeding American children in schools? Should we be funding other countries’ wars or using tax dollars to bring down housing and food costs and expanding social security and healthcare?” THAT is a much better argument to actually get people to care a BIT about what we’re doing outside the country. Americans are very concerned about money and finances rn, and so THAT will make them more concerned about how the US is using the taxes we pay. An America that spends more money on housing, education, infrastructure, and healthcare isn’t going to have that much more to fight proxy wars in Europe and the Middle East.
And again, if yall folks understood Americans and American politics, yall would understand that. But yall don’t. So, I ask one last time, WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING TO? If you’re not American, stfu about our politics. Just share the memes and joke about being coconut pilled and keep it light. Because THAT shit is working more than any self aggrandizing “yall are so stupid if you don’t vote for Kamala” posts no one asked for or needed to see. You’re convincing ZERO (0) people to vote and vote blue with that. It’s just for you to feel superior and Americans REALLY hate people, especially non Americans, who talk down to them. You’re more likely to convince ppl not to vote just to spite you (Americans are real good at throwing the baby out with the bath water lol), so, again, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Sincerely, an American who had been overly invested in politics for literally two decades, even as a middle school student, who is tired of being talked down to by people who don’t even know what an electoral college is, or anything about how American politics work. Thanks.

Reccomendations for cartoons to watch include: Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Regular Show, the later seasons of MLP Friendship is Magic (for the sake of completing it and being able to properly evaluate the show), Steven Universe, DuckTales 2017, OK KO, Big City Greens, Star vs the Forces of Evil, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Kim Possible, Hilda, Helluva Boss, Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated, She Ra 2018, and the Ben 10 franchise.
I actually still have another ask that is mostly this same list but I think Hilda and Helluva Boss are new. Mostly responding because something I find interesting about myself given how ruthless I can be with TOH is that, well...
I probably will never truly be able to be some big reviewer because when I start disliking something, I drop it. That's actually the big reason I'm responding is because there is NO WAY I am watching the like 4+ seasons of MLP:FiM that I didn't watch because I just can't engage with stuff I dislike. I find no joy in it and while I can rant for a couple episodes, it just loses my interest.
I never seek things out because I think I'll dislike them. I just don't think life is enjoyable that way. It's why I have no plans to return to Helluva Boss. I absolutely believe people would potentially send me asks about it with how polarizing it is but I got to the episode when Moxie and Blitzo are interrogated, went "Ah, I see, the two characters I hate the most and don't even find funny (Stolas and Blitzo) are the actual main characters and the pilot was potentially kind of a lie for what the real focus of the show is. I'm out." And I haven't watched an episode since. My brain struggles to click with media after all so why would I bother with media I actively know I dislike already?
I'll comment on a couple others that I have at least had experience with on the list in a minute but since Amphibia, I've watched the first season of Craig of the Creek and think that show is just AMAZING. There's at least one episode I keep wanting to do a blog on just because it exemplifies how much the show understands the wonder of fantasy and childhood without actually being fantastical. I've also seen S1 of SpyxFamily and some of S2 but right now the only streaming service I have consistent access to is Hulu (the Disney+ I was borrowing cancelled theirs to swap to Hulu) and they only have S1 dubbed of SpyxFamily.
I'm hoping to sometime soon actually watch Over the Garden Wall finally and just have been kind of a mess as of late as for why I haven't yet. I've heard only good things, and shockingly few spoilers, and it's about time I gave it a proper shot.
ANYWAYS:
Steven Universe: Watched the first episode and only really liked Greg so just didn't bother watching more. Steven was fine but I actively hated all three of the gems because of how brain dead they were in both segments of the episode. As far as pilots go, I think SU might genuinely have one of the worst I've ever seen for convincing you to like a main cast.
Gravity Falls: I rewatched the first episode recently and went "This is oooookay." Something about Dipper's VA just bothers me. Not like they're doing a bad job but that it falls into an uncanny valley my brain doesn't love. I really wish I could better explain why that show refuses to properly click for me.
Regular Show: I forget why but I've seen a few episodes. It's not bad but I don't think it's really for me. I find Rigby and Mordecai annoying more than anything else. Not awful but I think without it feeling like they're actually meant to be learning something, they fall into the trap Randy and Howard from Randy Cunningham fell into eventually for me where I was like "Okay, assholes can be fun for a while but if that's all you're ever going to be, I don't care."
Adventure Time: I have seen as many episodes where Fiona and Cake show up in that show than I have Finn and Jake. XD I have genuinely liked what I've seen and just for some reason never sought it out. Maybe someday.
Star Vs: I need to give S2 a chance but MAN when I got told they break up Marco and Jackie for NO REASON I lost a lot of interest in the show. I like Marco more than Star, and I've only seen S1, and thought Marco and Jackie's relationship was genuinely really nice and kind of unique. Also knowing it's most people's cartoon punching bag doesn't exactly fill me with enthusiasm for it.
Kim Possible: I remember rewatching the pilot a couple years ago and being shocked by how much I didn't care for Kim. I think the fact that Bonnie is the only one who gives her shit but she's actually just genuinely amazing at everything and liked by most make her just not compelling to me which is a shame because I have REALLY fond memories of the show. I'd probably commit to a rewatch of Danny Phantom first though since it has been just as long since I watched that.
(Weird fact: I was looking at Hulu's unfortunately limited amount of cartoons and saw they had Kick Buttowski of all things which is WILD to me.)
She-Ra: I've seen literally one episode, thought it was good, and definitely is one of the ones I keep telling myself to watch because everything about it seems like it'd be up my alley. These are also my thoughts on Voltron though with how much... less divisive that last season of Voltron is, it's definitely below watching Princesses of Power.
Ben 10: Loved the original series as a kid, tried the first two spin offs that came out and didn't really jive with either but I thought Julie, the tennis girl Ben gets with, was super cute. I know a friend who would LOVE to see me get into Ben 10 and do some reviews of it.
And just as an anime shout out, a part of me is still tempted to give Little Witch Academia another try. Not only is it just an obvious next show for me to watch but it's one I REALLY want to like because I like a lot about it... I just absolutely despise Akko from the like four episodes I watched a good number of years ago now. I thought almost all of the supporting characters were great though.
Just... Consider this my weird, rambly blog late at night about cartoons and the fact that I do wish I engaged with media better. One of the worst elements of it is that I don't engage well with scripted content well if my brain isn't already in an alright place. Like I don't go to television for distraction and cheering me up. I vastly prefer streams for that as I can actually turn my brain off during those normally. It's something I've talked about before and something I'd like to change. Heck, I even at one point had a therapy goal to watch something at least once a week since that'd still be easier than streaming or writing. Whoops. *sigh*
I do also appreciate the recommendations! The reminders are good sometimes since I don't feel like I actually stay in the loop all that well. And since I kind of assume this is the same person who sent a list before, I decided I felt like actually responding, especially because the MLP pitch is an interesting one but man... That's a LOT of Starlight Glimmer I'd have to put up with when just like six episodes of her as a good guy made me want to light both her and Twilight on fire to put them out of their, and mine, misery. That's without me getting into the fact that I just think the characters in general got worse by then, almost like series shouldn't last for that long because finding new angles on characters becomes REALLY HARD (says the dumbass with a series of his own that honestly is longer than he should reasonably plan a story for.)
Again, late night rambling while my brain deals with suddenly snapping out of a hyper focus on a game for three days and doesn't deal with that well. *sigh* Have a good night everyone, take care of yourself and see you next tale.
