How to use a nap to shift, enter the Void state, or have an OBE

Naps are one of the most powerful underrated tools for consciousness work. If you’ve ever struggled to shift, enter the Void, or astral project at night ,naps might be exactly what your system needs. Here's how to make them work for you.
Before you nap:
1. Keep a soft light on if you can tolerate it. Full darkness may send you into too deep of a sleep phase. Light helps you stay closer to conscious awareness.
2. Drink a little water before your nap. This helps lightly activate your system, and might cause a natural micro-awakening (which you want).
3. Set the intention for micro-awakenings.
A simple sentence like:
"I will gently wake up a few times during this nap without stress, and I'll use those moments wisely."
No pressure, no obsession. Just a gentle mental imprint.

4. Optimal nap time: 20 minutes minimum, 30–90 minutes is often ideal.
Longer naps tend to produce more REM, which means more micro-awakenings and chances for altered states at the end of the nap.

WHY NAPS WORK SO WELL:
You have more frequent micro-awakenings during naps than during full-night sleep cycles.
Why is that helpful?
Because micro-awakenings are literal gateways into:
Astral projection (OBE)
The Void state
Shifting into your Desired Reality
They are moments where you're partially disconnected from your body, but not fully lost in unconsciousness, perfect for transitions.

WHAT TO LISTEN TO (Optional):
Only use sound if you're used to it or if silence feels too intense. Some helpful audio options:
Delta Waves (1–4 Hz) → Best for Void / OBE access.
youtube
Theta Waves (4–7 Hz) → For shifting & deep subconscious connection
youtube
Soft ambient tracks that remind you of your DR
youtube
For exemple these kind of video
Silence → totally valid and often better for Void or advanced states
Avoid anything too stimulating or complex (like busy subliminals). A nap should feel like a dream, not a task.
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU WAKE UP MID-NAP:
If you wake up for a second or two, don’t move. That’s a micro-awakening. This is your golden opportunity.
Now choose your pathway:
To astral project (OBE):
Imagine you're rolling, floating, standing, or "falling out" of your body You can also do Michael Raduga's techniques from the phase, it's very effective. .
Feel your non-physical body move while your real one stays still.
Think: “I’m separating now.”
To shift:
Affirm softly in your mind: “I’m already there” or “This is my DR now.”
Visualize a mirror, door, bed, or scene from your DR.
Let the feeling sink in, don’t force anything. If you're not here In 1 to 2 minutes go back to sleep and try again at the next micro awakening
To enter the Void:
Imagine sinking into total darkness.
Repeat words like “Void,” “Let go,” or “I surrender.” Really simple affirmations
Focus on silence, emptiness, and your own presence.
Don’t try to do all three. Pick one and keep your focus gentle.
Note : It's easier to shift and enter the void via astral projection so you can make that your objective and then shift/enter the void from there.
How long until you see eesults?
It depends on your mental habits, your subconscious state, and how often you practice.
Some people will enter the Void or shift in their first nap. Others may need:
A few days to get familiar with the feeling of micro-awakenings
A week to build the right intention + mindset
Or longer to release mental pressure
But with consistency and curiosity, something will happen.
How to practice with naps:
1. Don’t overload the process. Choose one main goal: shift / void / OBE.
2. Practice relaxed awareness, not intensity.
3. Use naps 2–4 times a week if possible. More is okay, but allow integration time.
4. Every nap is feedback. Whether you shift or not, something is unfolding.
Your job is to stay open, non-attached, and consistent.
youtube
I also found this subliminal which can be really helpful for some
Common mistakes you can probably make:
Wanting it too much → Pressure blocks access remember to be in the present moment
Being way too tired -> You are immediately in a deeper sleep
Switching goals mid-nap → Stay focused on one target
Using the phone right before → It overstimulates your brain
Audio too intense → Stick to low, calm, minimal tracks
Moving during micro-awakenings → The window closes fast
Note: You can do it this way, but if you have trouble, you're probably making one of these mistakes.

Helpful points that make a big difference:
Light in the room (helps semi-conscious awareness)
Gentle intention before nap
Drinking water (small amount, not too much)
Putting the phone far away
Trusting your subconscious
Journaling dreams & wake-ups
block that eren’t mistakes (But slow You down):
Unconscious belief "I can’t do it" → becomes a loop
Thinking too much → energy stays in the head
Sleep deprivation → body overrides intention for deep rest
Trying to "control everything" → Void and OBE require surrender try to let go the noise to fall into it to fall into your own presence.
These aren’t your fault. But they do need gentle support.
I invite you to see this document by Michael Raduga for more information.
What will help you most:
Meditate regularly (even 5 minutes)
youtube
Work on trust more than technique
Practice breathing exercises daily
Learn to recognize early signs of altered states
Use naps as exploration.
Let your curiosity guide you
Final Note:
Naps are not “cheating.” They’re one of the most intuitive bridges between consciousness and other states of being.
So next time you nap, remember:
-> “All I need to do is surrender to what already belongs to me.”

Some personal history
I joined MLKSHK by invitation on January 6, 2011 as a regular user. I found MLKSHK to be a breath of fresh air compared to your typical social media site (which still holds true today). After the shutdown announcement in 2014, I tried to offer help and reached out again around July 2014 after the announcement that the site would not be closing. I had met Andre once before, but mostly knew of him through colleagues at Six Apart. Andre took me up on the volunteer help… remember, by this time he wasn’t running MLKSHK as a business, so the ~3 years that follow are maintaining the site as a hobby, particularly since it was still losing money.
Initially, I helped with site performance issues, including some query optimizations. As time passed, it became clear that the site was still in danger of closing due to the cost of services it was incurring, which was not offset enough by subscriptions. So Andre and I went through a cost assessment process and we identified a number of things that could be done. Switching away from Fastly to a cheaper CDN (KeyCDN at the time) shaved CDN operational costs by 66% (Fastly charges 12 cents per gigabyte of transfer and KeyCDN charges 4 cents) so we started there, since it was the easiest change to make and had the most impact.
I also helped with the site’s participation in the “Good Web Bundle” promotion which brought in a few subscribers and returning members. The following year (2015), we had to rebuild subscriptions from scratch since both Tugboat and Amazon payments had to be retired, and we replaced those with Stripe. Alas, the site was still just not able to sustain itself as it was, and a decision was made to close for good in 2017.
Before that happened, the MLKSHK community began a conversation with Andre to transition the site to a community-run operation. I wasn’t involved in discussions, so don’t have insight into the choice behind creating a new domain and brand instead of adopting MLKSHK outright (I suspect Andre just preferred a clean break). Andre agreed to share all data and source code to the transition team. I helped with transitioning the source code for MLKSHK; cleaning it up for the basis of the MLTSHP repository to become an open source project.
It was decided that it would be best to make MLTSHP more closed in nature… so much of MLKSHK was open to free users, even some allowance for post creation. The plan was to relaunch with a membership requirement, but also with two price plans - the regular $24/year membership (plus an option to specify any amount over $24/year if the member wants to), and a new $3/year membership which effectively was the same level of service that was provided for free registered users before. While posting was being restricted to members, we wanted to keep certain things open for all: our “Popular” page, and individual post links which can be shared anywhere.
There would be some downtime between MLKSHK’s closure and the launch of MLTSHP. We aimed to keep that downtime low, but it gave us some time to make some larger changes that would make for a more sustainable and cost-efficient service.
Switching off of Amazon AWS for web server and database service was a big one. I had wanted to do this for MLKSHK as early as 2014, but we never did. I took a snapshot of AWS expenses from January 2017 and costs for that month were $400 (just RDS + S3 + EC2 and outbound data transfer to our CDN). We switched these to use Linode. For CDN service, KeyCDN was more cost effective than Fastly was, but we decided to switch to using Cloudflare for CDN since it wouldn’t cost anything (ironically, MLTSHP has since switched back to Fastly after receiving an offer to operate at no cost). The only remaining AWS feature MLTSHP is using is S3 for block storage. There are some cheaper S3-compatible services available, but the potential savings have never justified the task of a migration. Operational costs today are less than half of what we were spending for AWS alone, and we pay nothing for CDN service.
We also set up a real deployment process, utilizing Buildkite (they offer a free account for us to use), making it easier to test and deploy community-led changes. This also included utilizing Docker which also makes it easier for contributors to run their own copy of the site locally for development.
Ahead of MLTSHP’s launch, a service was built that would transcode GIF images (a popular, but heavy file format) to video formats that those would serve instead of the original GIF file. This was a cost-saving measure, since popular GIFs lead to a lot of traffic, so the smaller the better.
Another must-have for relaunch was a process that would migrate a user’s MLKSHK data when they signed into MLTSHP. This required us to load all the MLKSHK data into the MLTSHP database (in a separate set of tables) and we also had permission from Andre to make a wholesale copy of the MLKSHK S3 bucket to MLTSHP’s S3 bucket so all images were preserved.
And we also had a full rebranding to do. Replacing all site design and assets so that it was different, but retaining the spirit of the original site.
There have been a lot of changes to the site since that time. We’ve added site-wide search, responsive design so the site works well for mobile devices, support for light and dark mode, an alt text field so images can be described, and many other things. Big feature releases are few and far between, but the site is stable which is a great feature.
Our Github repo has had 412 commits from 26 different contributors. There’s still a lot of stuff to do (patches welcome)! But the most important feature we’ve developed is a self-sustainable community. We don’t have to worry about closing.

The Six Stages of a Meta-Writer’s Despair
(A Satire)
Fandom. That wondrous place where creativity blooms and everyone’s supposed to “ship and let ship” and just “do their thing”. At least, that’s what I thought when I first wandered into Tumblr three years ago with wordy metas (or OC fics. Or poetry. Or original art) nobody asked for.
Fast forward, and here I am, walking you through the Six Stages of a Meta-Writer’s Despair with the energy of a Victorian widow scowling out of a rain-smeared window…
1. Naive Optimism
You arrive in fandom like a clueless protagonist in a (horror?) movie.
“Wow,” you think, “look at all these creative people! Fanart! Fic! Meta! Ships! So much stuff!.” You believe (truly believe!) that if you simply mind your own business, blabber about your lifelong love of a certain comic, it’ll surely be awesome. And in a way, it was (and still is).
2. Mild Confusion
You start noticing… things. Like how any post, no matter the original topic (“character development,” “symbolism,” “plot structure”, “original art”) somehow ends up buried (in any tag) under a mountain of GIFs and fan-art for Thee Ship™️.
You’re not mad, it’s okay. Everyone can do whatever they like and inhabit their little (?) niche. SALS and all that, even if you’re not a shipper.
You’re just a little… bewildered as you squint at your screen and wonder: Wasn’t this a post about the importance of male friendship and toxic masculinity? Why is everyone yelling about how it’s “obviously romantic tension”?
3. Passive-Aggression
You sigh heavily, adjust your expectations, and soldier on. You add disclaimers to your posts. “This is about canon,” you assert, with increasingly brittle patience. You carve out little meta-spaces, sprinkle “analysis”-tags everywhere, and learn to close your eyes when the ship-wars break out like an oil-fire. Sometimes, you even find yourself in the midst of one just because you dared to have an opinion about the red rags to the fandom-bull: Misogyny and racism. Ah well…
You change tack: Maybe, if you stay quiet, you can still enjoy your corner of fandom without being trampled by the thundering hooves of OTP Nation. Right?
4. Active Irritation
One day you blink and realise the landscape isn’t gonna change. Canon? Minor characters? Narrative arcs? Women? Ancient relics. The fandom is now The One True Ship Show, 24/7, and if you dare to utter the tiniest non-general-consensus-opinion, you are either “bitter”, “straight” (nope) or “not understanding the true heart of the story.”
You post a 2,000-word meta about processing grief, and someone reblogs it with a tag how it’s actually proof of their OTP.
You hear a distant popping sound. It is a blood vessel in your brain…
5. Existential Crisis
You start questioning your own sanity.
Are intelligent discussions about story structure and characterisation a sign of madness? Is canon a bad thing?
You consider retiring to a cave so you can mumble about canon and narrative themes to a family of sympathetic bats (waves 👋🏻)…
6. Grim, Cackling Acceptance
At last, you achieve peace (maybe).
Not because things get better, oh no; rather because you give up trying to swim against the tsunami of ship-centric content. You embrace your role as “That Person” who sighs heavily in the tags, filters, blocks and writes essays only 1% of fandom reads. But they’re your people (waves again 👋🏻).
You open your drafts folder, dust off your 5K meta about the women of that story and hit post.
Because if fandom has taught you anything, it’s that you might as well go down blabbering about canon…
#had this in my drafts for a while might as well post it 🤣#satire#or is it#fandom#fandom satire#fandom culture#fandom commentary#fandom stuff#shipping#meta writing#meta writers#queue crew

What Are the Key Features That Drive High First Contact Resolution in Omnichannel Services?
First Contact Resolution (FCR) is one of the most important metrics in omnichannel customer service. It measures the ability to resolve client issues in the very first interaction—without follow-ups, call-backs, or escalations. High FCR improves customer satisfaction, reduces costs, and strengthens brand credibility. According to SQM Group, a 1% rise in FCR equals a 1% improvement in customer satisfaction. In a multi-channel environment, this directly impacts business results.
1. Centralized Customer Data Across Channels
FCR starts with complete visibility. Agents must be able to view customer interactions across phone, chat, email, social media, and self-service tools. When all data is stored in one place, service becomes faster and more accurate. A Forrester report shows 68% of customers feel frustrated when they have to repeat themselves due to disconnected systems. A unified view enables smoother conversations and quicker resolutions.
2. Smart Routing and Agent Matching
Directing queries to the most suitable agent from the start improves FCR significantly. Intelligent routing systems use AI to match issues with agents who have the right skills and knowledge. This reduces call transfers and escalations. Genesys research shows that companies using skill-based routing see up to a 25% increase in FCR. The right match reduces response time and improves Omnichannel Customer Service
satisfaction.
3. Real-Time Support Tools for Agents
Real-time tools help agents respond faster and with more accuracy. AI-driven prompts, knowledge base suggestions, and sentiment analysis make it easier for agents to understand the issue and act immediately. When agents have access to a shared knowledge base, across all channels, they can provide consistent, correct answers—whether through chat, phone, or social support.
4. Proactive Communication Reduces Inbound Volume
Companies can help inbound traffic and increase FCR by detecting issues ahead of time and informing the customer of the problem in advance. Issues are resolved without customers having to contact them using alerts, Frequently Asked Questions, and real-time service upgrades. According to Aberdeen Group, implementing proactive support strategies decrease subsequent contacts by up to 20%.
5. Channel-Specific Setup & Optimization
Different channels of services are optimal when used with appropriate tools and workflow. Live chat is more effective when scripted pick-ups and typing previews are involved and social media care should have sentiment detecting tools and rapid tagging. As compared to the one-process-fits-all approach, optimizing each channel separately promptly resolves issues and results in an increased FCR.
6. Feedback-Driven Improvement
Tracking FCR in real time helps teams see what’s working and what isn’t. In an Omnichannel Customer Service environment, post-interaction surveys and automated reports help identify issues that weren’t resolved the first time—across voice, chat, email, and social channels. Companies that use FCR data to improve agent training and service design see better long-term results. Top teams treat FCR as a core performance KPI.
7. Smooth Transition from Bots to Humans
Automation is useful, but some problems need a human touch. When chatbots hand off to live agents, all the information should carry over—without the customer having to repeat their issue. Gartner reports that this kind of seamless handoff increases Omnichannel Customer Service
satisfaction by 15%. It also cuts down resolution time.
Omnichannel Customer Service Platforms That Support High FCR
Companies that want to improve FCR at scale need strong platforms. Suma Soft, Salesforce Service Cloud, Freshdesk, and Genesys Cloud offer end-to-end Omnichannel Customer Service.
High First Contact Resolution is not just a metric—it’s a customer experience standard. With the right omnichannel tools, businesses can reduce support costs, improve satisfaction, and strengthen brand trust.

US-Thailand Treaty of Amity
The 1966 Treaty of Amity and Economic Relations between the United States and Thailand (amended 1968) represents one of the most consequential bilateral agreements in Southeast Asian commerce. Emerging during the Cold War's geopolitical realignments, the treaty was designed to:
Strengthen economic ties between the two nations
Provide US investors with national treatment in most business sectors
Serve as a counterbalance to regional communist influences
Key Distinction: Unlike standard Foreign Business Act (FBA) provisions limiting foreign ownership to 49%, the treaty permits 100% US-owned enterprises across most industries.
2. Legal Mechanics: How the Treaty Supersedes Thai Law
A. Treaty vs. Foreign Business Act (FBA)
The FBA's three restrictive lists (Annexes I-III) normally prohibit foreign majority control in:
Annex I: Agriculture, media, land trading (absolute prohibitions)
Annex II: Certain service industries (requires Cabinet approval)
Annex III: Most professions (engineering, accounting, etc.)
The Amity Treaty overrides these restrictions for US nationals through:
Article IV(1): National treatment guarantee
Article IV(3): Most-favored-nation clause
Article VI(4): Capital transfer protections
Exception: The treaty cannot circumvent constitutional land ownership restrictions (US companies may own buildings but not land).
Notable Exclusion: Financial services (banking/insurance) remain regulated by the Bank of Thailand.
3. Establishing an Amity Treaty Company: Technical Requirements
A. Ownership Structure Mandates
Minimum 51% US ownership (individuals or corporate entities)
US citizen control of board decisions
Documentation Requirements:
Notarized affidavit of US ownership
Certified corporate documents (for US parent companies)
Passport copies of US shareholders
B. Registration Process
Name Reservation (Department of Business Development)
Capitalization (No minimum requirement but practical considerations apply)
Treaty Certification (Ministry of Commerce)
Tax Registration (Revenue Department)
Work Permit Applications (No quota restrictions)
Processing Time: 4-6 weeks for complete setup
4. Operational Considerations & Compliance
A. Capitalization Strategies
While no minimum capital is mandated:
THB 2 million recommended for work permit approvals
THB 5 million+ for credibility with Thai banks
B. Tax Optimization
Transfer pricing documentation critical for HQ transactions
Withholding tax planning on service fees (typically 15%)
VAT registration thresholds still apply
C. Annual Compliance
Audited financial statements required
Corporate income tax filings (even if zero revenue)
Shareholder meeting minutes documentation
5. Common Pitfalls & Dispute Resolution
A. Ownership Dilution Risks
Losing US majority control voids treaty privileges
Solution: Implement shareholder agreements with veto rights
B. Banking Challenges
Thai banks often unfamiliar with treaty provisions
Recommendation: Use Bangkok Bank or Siam Commercial Bank (most experienced)
C. Dispute Resolution Mechanisms
Arbitration: Preferred under Treaty Article V
Forum Selection: Thai courts generally respected
Enforcement: New York Convention applies
6. Long-Term Strategic Planning
A. Succession Planning
Transferring shares to non-US heirs risks treaty status
Solution: US-domiciled holding company structure
B. Expansion Pathways
BOI Upgrade: Possible but requires new application
Regional HQ Status: Can complement Amity privileges
C. Exit Strategies
M&A Considerations: Buyer must maintain US majority
Liquidation: Capital repatriation protected under treaty
7. Recent Developments & Future Outlook
2019 Amendment Discussions: Proposed updates stalled
Digital Economy Impact: Cloud services interpretation evolving
Geopolitical Factors: US-China tensions increasing treaty's value
Emerging Trend: More US tech startups using Amity as ASEAN beachhead.
8. Expert Recommendations
For New Market Entrants:
Conduct treaty qualification analysis before incorporation
Structure capitalization for both immigration and banking needs
Document all corporate actions meticulously
For Existing Businesses:
Annual treaty compliance audit
Consider BOI dual-track strategy for manufacturing
Evaluate Elite Visa for non-working shareholders
For High-Risk Industries:
Retain Thai legal counsel for FBA gray areas
Maintain parallel Thai nominee structure as backup
9. Conclusion: The Treaty's Enduring Value
While Thailand's investment landscape has evolved significantly since 1966, the Amity Treaty remains the most efficient vehicle for US businesses seeking:
Full operational control without joint ventures
Rapid market entry (vs BOI's longer process)
Political risk mitigation through treaty protections
Final Consideration: The treaty works best when integrated with:
Proper tax planning
Strategic immigration structuring
Local regulatory compliance

Vietnam Visa Extension and Renewal: What to Do if You Want to Stay Longer

Introduction
Vietnam is an enchanting location that draws millions of tourists, digital nomads, and business travelers annually. Nevertheless, numerous visitors often seek to prolong their stay beyond the expiration of their visa. If you are curious about the procedures for extending or renewing your Vietnam visa, this detailed guide will provide you with the necessary steps, requirements, and optimal practices to facilitate a smooth experience.
Understanding Vietnam Visa Extension and Renewal
Before diving into the details, it's essential to differentiate between Vietnam visa extension and Vietnam visa renewal:
Vietnam Visa Extension: Allows you to stay longer in Vietnam without obtaining a new visa. The extension only extends your current visa’s duration but does not change the visa type or the number of entries.
Vietnam Visa Renewal: Involves getting a new visa sticker and stamp, which is ideal if your visa type does not support an extension or if you need a different type of visa.
Who Needs a Vietnam Visa Extension or Renewal?
Tourists who want to explore Vietnam longer
Business travelers with ongoing meetings or projects
Digital nomads who prefer to work remotely from Vietnam
Expats seeking additional time to process long-term visas or residence permits
Vietnam Visa Extension Process
Check Eligibility
You must be holding a valid visa that allows extensions (some visa types, like e-visas, may not be extendable).
Extensions are usually granted for 15, 30, or 90 days, depending on the original visa type.
Prepare Required Documents
Original passport (valid for at least six months)
Current visa page and latest entry stamp
Vietnam visa extension application form (provided by immigration offices or visa agencies)
Additional documents if required (depends on visa type)
Submit the Application
Apply directly at the Vietnam Immigration Office in major cities (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang) or through a reputable visa agency.
Processing time varies from 5 to 7 working days.
Pay the Visa Extension Fee
Using a visa agency might incur additional service charges but ensures smoother processing.
Vietnam Visa Renewal Process
If your visa type does not qualify for an extension, visa renewal is the best option. Here’s how it works:
Exit and Re-enter Vietnam (Visa Run)
Some travelers opt for a visa run, where they exit Vietnam (usually to a neighboring country like Cambodia, Laos, or Thailand) and apply for a new visa before re-entering.
This method is ideal for those needing a fresh visa with a different duration or multiple entry options.
Apply for a Visa Renewal in Vietnam
This process is similar to an extension but results in a new visa stamp.
Submit documents to the Vietnam Immigration Office or a visa service provider.
Processing takes 7-10 working days.
Where to Apply for Vietnam Visa Extension or Renewal?
Vietnam Immigration Offices
Hanoi: 44-46 Tran Phu Street, Ba Dinh District
Ho Chi Minh City: 333-335-337 Nguyen Trai Street, District 1
Da Nang: 7 Tran Quy Cap Street, Hai Chau District
Visa Agencies
For those who prefer professional assistance, visa agencies can handle the entire process, ensuring fewer errors and quicker results.
Common Issues and How to Avoid Them
Overstaying a Vietnam visa results in fines depending on the duration of overstay.
Last-minute applications may result in delays, so start the process at least two weeks before your visa expires.
Incomplete documents can cause rejection, so ensure all paperwork is correctly filled out.
Vietnam Visa Alternatives
If extension or renewal is not an option, consider:
Visa run to a nearby country and apply for a fresh Vietnam visa.
Vietnam business visa if staying for work-related activities.
Temporary residence card (TRC) for long-term expats and investors.
Conclusion
Renewing or extending your Vietnam visa is a simple procedure when you adhere to the correct steps and fulfill all necessary requirements. Whether you are a tourist wishing to extend your stay in Vietnam or a professional requiring additional time, understanding your options will facilitate a seamless and hassle-free experience. It is advisable to apply well in advance, stay informed about the most current immigration regulations, and, if necessary, select a trustworthy visa agency.

Field of Soy Dreams in Illinois
In Illinois, soybeans are big business. The state’s farmers harvested 64 bushels per acre in 2024, producing a record 688 million bushels of the versatile legume. The plant’s protein-rich beans are widely used as food for both livestock and people, as well as for the production of biodiesel and other industrial products.
The map above depicts data from the Cropland Data Layer, an annual, geo-referenced, crop-specific land cover dataset created by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) for the contiguous United States. It uses data collected by Landsat satellites and Sentinel-2 to identify crop types. The elevation data layered onto the image comes from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). Areas classified as soybean fields in 2024 are light green. Farmers in the Midwest often grow soybeans in rotation with other crops, usually corn and wheat.
The 2024 soybean harvest in Illinois was the nation’s largest, amounting to 16 percent of the total U.S. crop. A harvest of that scale supports tens of thousands of jobs and generates roughly $7 billion in economic output. Iowa trailed closely with 597 million bushels, followed by Indiana and Minnesota with 341 million and 329 million bushels, respectively.
Illinois growers benefit from having access to fertile soils, flat terrain that enables easy harvesting, and convenient transportation options and processing facilities. Soybeans are grown widely, with the exception of the Chicago area and the hilly region in the southern part of the state. McLean County, in east central Illinois, had the largest harvest of any U.S. county in 2024, producing 22.6 million bushels.
Illinois is also an important hub of agricultural innovation and research. Through the NASA Acres consortium, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is working with other universities on 14 programs designed to convert satellite data into useful information for farmers.
For instance, University of Illinois researcher Kaiyu Guan, chief scientist for NASA Acres, is leading an effort to combine satellite data with ground sampling and hyperspectral imaging to determine the optimal nitrogen levels for crops. Guan and colleagues recently released an online calculator—the Maximum Return To Nitrogen (MRTN) Tool—designed to help Illinois farmers maximize profit while minimizing environmental problems.
