How the 104th cadet corps babysits
(Plus bonus Pieck and Porco)
Eren: Comes about 10 minutes late but says the parents can take $10 off to make up for it. Gets the kids to watch Transformers while he talks to Mikasa on the phone for an hour and a half, but keeps the kids in the corner of his eye so they don’t run off. Orders buffalo ranch pizza. When the kids show him a TikTok of someone shotgunning a beer, he scolds them before showing them how to do it themselves with cans of soda and telling them to not tell anyone he did that. Charges $40 (originally $50).
Mikasa: Brings 3-4 balls of yarn and teaches the kids how to knit while she puts on Pride and Prejudice. One of the kids takes a ball of yarn and starts pretending they’re a cat so she goes along with it and they all start playing kitties and puppies. Somehow she manages to get all of the kids in bed right before the parents come home and lets them keep the “knitted scarves” they made as a little gift. Charges $150 but it’s worth it to have the kids tuckered out and nothing messed up.
Armin: Brings some books to read to the kids. They range from Dr. Seuss to the Great Illustrated Classics version of HG Wells’ The Time Machine. LOVES answering questions with questions because he wants the kids to learn critical thinking at a young age but doesn’t want to bore them. Plays baby sensory videos or How it’s Made to get the kids to fall asleep when they refuse to go to bed. Charges $60
Annie: Doesn’t jump at the idea of babysitting but agrees to when the parents offer $50 AND a gift card to Target (she just ran out of face wash). Only babysits older kids and sits on her phone most of the time, but still makes sure they get their homework done before they can do their thing. Gives “relationship advice” (“all boys are terrible. I’m just dating Armin because he was lucky enough to be an exception”). Yells at the kids to go to bed and they do because she’s scary when she yells.
Reiner: The kids are obsessed with how strong he is and beg him to power lift him like they’re dumbbells and he absolutely LIVES for it. Plays Assassins Creed and Mario Kart and helps the kids beat a tough level in Portal 2. Has a food fight with popcorn but after making sure they’re all in bed he goes down to vacuum it back up and make sure the basement is reasonably clean. Charges $60.
Bertoldt: Absolutely CRACKED at Fortnite and Call of Duty and will destroy opponents that underestimate him because of his score. Does bad karaoke of Michael Bolton love ballads so the kids can make fun of him. Shows them all sorts of cheesy 80’s music so they can surprise their parents with songs they listened to as kids/teenagers. Charges $100 because he brought his own karaoke machine.
Marco: HUGE Marvel fan and gets into a long-winded discussion about comics and the MCU vs DC with the kids. Does a whole Marathon of the Sam Raimi Spiderman trilogy (his favorites), then tells the kids all about the meaning of who Spiderman is and how the biggest appeal of the character is that “anyone can wear the mask and anyone can be an everyday hero just like Peter Parker and Miles Morales”. Tries to refuse pay but the parents insist on giving him $150 because the kids love him so much.
Historia: Brings a whole tea party set and raids the kids closets to do a princess and knights fashion show. Does nails (outside or in the garage so nail polish doesn’t get on the carpet) and tells the little girl(s) that they can be knights and the little boy(s) that they can be the princes to be saved if that’s what they want. Talks all about how Ymir is her knight in shining armor. Charges $100.
Ymir: Does not like kids. Does not want kids. Was tricked into babysitting but once she realized she was alone with them, she freaks out and called Historia to come over and help her. Steals a couple white claws from the fridge in the garage and hopes the parents don’t notice. When Historia finally comes, she lets her take over and sits on the couch scrolling on TikTok. Tells the parents the kids were good, takes $20, and never babysits again.
Sasha: Brought a kid-friendly cookbook and makes the kids a big fishbowl to drink out of while watching Ratatouille (it’s filled with sprite, blue Gatorade, and Swedish fish). She bakes cookies while they watch and secretly eats a ton of cookie dough before the kids even know there’s extra. Gets the kids to sing the clean-up song after dinner and basically tricks them into getting the kitchen in perfect order before the parents come home.
Connie: BY FAR the best babysitter for rowdy and stubborn kids. He has little siblings so he knows all the ins and outs of dealing with babies, toddlers, and preteens. Lets the kids do just enough stuff they’re “not allowed to do” so they feel like he’s the cool babysitter, but also flawlessly tricks them into doing their nighttime routine to a T in record time. Charges $200 for the night but it’s worth every penny to come home and they’re all in bed sound asleep, freshly bathed with their teeth brushed, and dinner finished with a spotless kitchen.
Jean: Brings a whole backpack full of cheap art supplies and construction paper for the kids to play with to stay occupied, but he gets carried away and starts “critiquing” their work in a posh accent as if he were an upscale art curator (it’s literally fingerpaint). Lets the kids ride on his back like a horse (duh) and pretends he’s a giant so they can attack him with toy swords. Absolutely LOVES when one of the kids has a crush on him and hides it poorly because he thinks it’s adorable. Charges $60 for the art supplies and gas, nothing for his time.
Pieck: THE cool big sister every kid wants. Crawls around on all fours and lets the kids ride on her back as well (obviously). Lets the kids swim in the pool at night and plays mermaids with them until the parents come home, then helps the parents get the kids to bed. Charges $75 for the night and offers to help for the kids’ class pool party (she just likes playing mermaids and wants free access to a pool)
Porco: 15 minutes late but it’s because he stopped at dollar general to get each kid’s favorite snack. Takes the kids to see the Minecraft movie (sneaking the snacks in) and then they spin donuts in the back of the parking lot in his clapped out BMW 335i. Gets Taco Bell with the kids afterwards on the way home and wrestles them into bed. Charges for the movie tickets but covers the Taco Bell on his own dime (he had a Visa gift card that Bert gave him months ago that he found under the drivers seat).

I know of and respect your dislike of the Daredevil tv series, but I wanted to ask if you might have reading recs to familiarize myself with what the Born Again series is planning. Heather Glenn, Muse, Mayor Fisk, etc. I've read some relevant comics, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something important. What runs and issues might I need to hit? ♥
I mean, listen, "dislike" is a strong word. There was a time when this show was very fun to me. If it were to stop filtering into the comics, and if Marvel stopped treating the other Netflix shows like second-rate afterthoughts, it might become fun to me again. Regardless, I'm always thrilled to help with things like this!
Heather Glenn

Heather was introduced in Daredevil volume 1 #126, when she wandered into her ex-boyfriend's apartment and found Matt living there instead. She became a member of the core Daredevil cast, dating Matt and serving as an assistant at the law firm. She was tragically central in Matt's earliest life-falls-apart storylines, and remained an important recurring character for a span of roughly 80-or-so issues. In other words, she's a pretty big deal, and I'm excited to learn she will be making the leap to the MCU. (Heather's family's company, Glenn Industries, was actually mentioned in Luke Cage season 2. But referencing that would require them to, you know, acknowledge the existence of Luke Cage, so we'll see.)
Heather's appearances include: Daredevil volume 1 #126-132, 134-138, 141-154, 157-160, 165-167, 169, 171, 174-177, 182-186, 189, 195, and 220. In particular, you'll want to check out #147-154 and 182-186, 189.
Muse

Muse was introduced in Daredevil volume 5 #10 as a terrifyingly dangerous antagonist for budding superhero Blindspot/Sam Chung (who was already introduced to the MCU in Iron Fist season 2!), and appeared in issues #10-14 and #596-600 (don't let the high numbers alarm you— this took place during a period when all of Marvel's comics briefly switched to their legacy numbering). Muse is also now being brought back in the current Daredevil: Unleash Hell mini-series starring Elektra.
Mayor Fisk

The "Mayor Fisk" plotline is also from Daredevil volume 5. Volume 5 was the first Daredevil run to come out following the release of the show, which had a noticeable impact on both the writing and art, so it's fascinating to see it now impacting the show in such a big way in return. Truly, a full circle. The initial story arc is covered in issues #595-600, but Fisk remained the mayor all the way through the end of volume 5 and all of volume 6 before finally being defeated in the next election in Devil's Reign— a story that was centered around Mayor Fisk's draconian laws against superheroes.
White Tiger(s)

I've also heard mention of a White Tiger appearance? This is an extremely cool superhero legacy born out of the era of Marvel's kung fu superheroes alongside Shang-Chi, Iron Fist, the Daughters of the Dragon, and the Sons of the Tiger (who are also tied into the White Tiger legacy). The White Tigers wield martial arts mastery and superhuman enhancements channeled from a magical amulet. The first White Tiger, Hector Ayala, was introduced in the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu anthology magazine exactly 50 years ago this year! While definitely a product of its time, DHKF was notable for cultivating and promoting a diverse cast of protagonists, and Hector was Marvel's very first Latino superhero. His origin story begins in #19, at the end of the issue's Sons of the Tiger comic installment, and then continues in #20-24, 26-27, and 29-32. He also appeared in Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man volume 1 #9-10, 18-32, and 49-52, starred in the retrospective story "Pa'lante Juntos" in Marvel's Voices: Comunidades in 2021, and— possibly most relevant, in this instance— was at the center of the Daredevil story arc "The Trial of the Century" (Daredevil volume 2 #38-40).
That story was followed soon afterward by the introduction of the second White Tiger, Hector's niece, Angela Del Toro (who was actually already name-dropped in Jessica Jones!). She appeared in Daredevil volume 2 #59, 65-70, 77-79, 113-115, 119-510, had her own White Tiger mini-series, and has appeared in a few other places as well (notably, Shadowland and New Avengers (2015)). The third White Tiger is Angela's aunt, Ava Ayala, who was introduced in Avengers Academy (2010) #21 and also appeared in Mighty Avengers, Captain America and the Mighty Avengers, and New Avengers (2015), as well as having her own story in Marvel's Voices: Comunidades. (She was also a main character in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.) Finally, there is another White Tiger, just named "White Tiger", a literal anthropomorphic tiger who was introduced in Heroes for Hire volume 1. She's not connected at all to the previously established White Tiger legacy, and if she somehow gets referenced in this Daredevil show, I will put ketchup on my copy of Mike Murdock's introductory issue and eat it. (But you should read Heroes for Hire volume 1 anyway, because it's really fun.)
Kirsten McDuffie

Is Kirsten also still in this? I recall a time when sources claimed she was in this. Regardless, everyone should read some Kirsten McDuffie comics. They're good for your health. Kirsten was introduced in Daredevil volume 3 #1 and was part of the core cast in all of volume 3, Daredevil: Road Warrior, and volume 4, plus Daredevil: Dark Nights #4-5, then reappeared in Daredevil volume 5 #17-20, Man Without Fear (2019) #2, Daredevil volume 6 #23-24 and a few other scattered issues afterward, Devil's Reign #3-5 and Devil's Reign: Omega.
"Born Again"
The new season is called "Born Again", so I guess you should read "Born Again" (Daredevil volume 1 #227-233)? Even though season 3 already kind of adapted it? Either way, it's a great, classic story arc that I recommend checking out if you haven't.
I hope this helps! Please don't hesitate to ask about any other references that interest you. I'm not sure I'll be actively seeking them out myself, but I'm very happy to receive and talk about them.

I honestly think that the Nolan Batman trilogy was the best and worst thing to happen to the Batman franchise, because on one hand, it was the first live-action instance of trying to make Batman more gritty and serious (because while the Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney movies took the story much more seriously than the 60s television show, they were still goofy at times, which is why I honestly think they're the best rendition of Batman, because they were able to balance silliness with seriousness, which is what Batman is all about, but that's obviously an entirely different thesis) which then allowed for more people to take comic book movies serious, consequently leading to the rise of the DCEU and, obviously, the MCU (we would not have the MCU today and the actual good movies that came out of it without Nolan's trilogy, there's simply no argument there).
However, the Nolan trilogy also unfortunately made "dark, gritty Batman" the norm, meaning that once anyone tries to actually have some fun with Batman, they immediately get shit on by comic book dude bros. It also created the most annoying characterization of the Joker that everyone has been trying to replicate since and no one will be able to replicate, because they simply do not understand the character (I honest to God think the closest live-action actor who has ever made a Joker character work besider Heath Ledger was Cameron Monaghan in the Gotham television show, and he wasn't even really Joker??? but at least he didn't make it everyone else's problem and was a good mix of goofy and psychotic, not just psychotic) and will never be Heath Ledger (but they don't stop trying much to my forever annoyment).
And while I can recognize the cultural and significant impact on the comic and film community that Nolan's trilogy had, it is still by far my least favorite adaptation because of how serious it takes itself (and of course, the racism. The racism is actually the bigger one for me. Fuck Christopher Nolan for that. Ra's al Ghul is NOT a white man just because you want a plot twist, and you CANNOT just erase Bane being mixed race because you fucking FEEL LIKE IT because him being mixed race is extremely relevant to his origin). Batman has had serious moments in the comics, don't get me wrong, and I know things must evolve and change over time and that I cannot expect an 80 year old character to not be further developed throughout the decades, but it almost feels as if Nolan and Goyer (the writer) read a Sparks Notes version of the history of Batman, cracked their knuckles, and said "yeah, I think I got it."
Spoiler alert: they did not get it.
When I watch the Nolan trilogy (which I haven't in quite some time and I really don't want to, even to prove a point to people on the Internet) I notice how uninspired it feels, story-wise. While the action and cinematography is excellent, the story is lacking for me, and when you're telling a story like Batman, that has decades of content, you cannot just forgo storytelling for cool special effects.
I'd much rather watch a Batman adaptation that has the shittiest effects known to man with a writer who whole-heartily cares for the characters they're writing and has taken time to research. And that's honestly one of the biggest problems the comic book film industry is having now, both DC and Marvel. They're not hiring people who actually care about these characters to write them and they're focusing much more at appealing to everyone they can instead of who the movies should be made for: fans.
You're gonna have such a harder time convincing my mom, a woman who only cares about Wonder Woman, to watch the new Captain America film than you would someone who has read the Sam Wilson Cap comic run. And while this entire issue stems from the fact that the film industry is just that, an industry, and has become less about filmmakers making art and more-so how much money investors and producers can get out of ticket sales, it is still infuriating to see franchises you care deeply about be ruined by guys just there to cash their paychecks and be done with it.
And really, the film industry as we know it needs to be fucking demolished from the inside out, but that will never happen and now we're a bit off-topic. So, back to Batman.
I think another issue I have with newer live-action Batman adaptations is that they choose to forgo a VERY IMPORTANT character when it comes to Batman/Bruce Wayne's evolution as a character and story line.
Robin.
Since whatever the fuck the casting of Chris O'Donnell in 1995 was (why was he, like, a grown man?), people have been afraid to touch a live-action Dick Grayson with a six-foot pole (besides Titans, which I'm gonna get to in a sec). Which is ridiculous, because he is, like I said, an insanely important character when it comes to showing the growth Bruce Wayne goes through.
Bruce Wayne becomes Batman because he is so angry about his parent's deaths and the corruption of Gotham that he doesn't know what else to do. All the money in the world cannot change things for the better, his own father tried and died for his troubles, and he is left with no other option. Bruce Wayne works during the day to fight corruption via charity and his company, Batman works during the night and is able to do what Bruce Wayne can't (beating the shit out of people, mainly). The two are separate sides of the same coin.
And despite this seeming like a good arrangement, it's pretty obvious in most adaptations (at least they get THAT right) that beating the shit out of people in back alleys is not a good replacement for therapy. You're able to see the toll being Batman has on Bruce. He quickly becomes more occupied with being a vigilante than being himself. Bruce needs something to break through this internal struggle and help him balance both lives.
And so a boy named Dick Grayson comes along.
Dick's so important (and so are the other Robins, of course, but Dick being the first means I have to talk about him a bit more) because he forced Bruce to get his shit together. Here's a boy who's about the same age Bruce was when his parents died, who also just saw his parents killed in front of him, and is so full of rage he has no idea what to do. Sounds familiar...
Bruce is able to help himself by helping Dick. He gives him an outlet to vent his anger and frustrations while also looking out for him in the best way he can. While there are many issues with how Robin comes to be in various comic runs (and if this was real life it would be fucking ridiculous) Dick becoming Robin is extremely important. If he hadn't been taken in by Bruce Wayne, if he'd been allowed to let that anger continue to bubble up inside of him, he probably would have killed Tony Zucco and that would have been enough to set Dick down a terrible path he might not recover from.
The same goes for Bruce. If he were to set out and kill the person who shot his parents, he wouldn't be a hero anymore because that single event would shatter the entire point of Batman, which is that he is not meant to decide who lives and dies. If he were, how would he be any different than all the villains in Gotham that he fights as Batman? How would he be better than the corrupt businessman and politicians that he has to battle as Bruce Wayne? He wouldn't.
Batman needs Robin and Robin needs Batman, because they are yin and yang. Light within darkness, darkness within light. You cannot separate these characters and still tell an accurate story, it's impossible. I think that's a huge issue Nolan's movies have, on top of many others. You cannot accurately present to me a Batman story if there is no Robin, just as you couldn't give me a Robin story without Batman.
Every Robin is so important to how Bruce Wayne as a character is developed, and disregarding this as a creator is not only disrespectful to the character, it misses the entire point. I refuse to take your adaptation of Batman seriously if you can't figure out how important Robin is. He isn't just some kid sidekick, he isn't an optional side character, he is what makes Batman human. You cannot have gritty, Neo-noir Batman and forgo Robin just because you see him as the sidekick in tights. When Batman was silly and took itself less seriously, sure, there wasn't a lot to Robin nor Batman's troubling pasts. But now that you want to deep dive into Bruce Wayne's psyche and pick apart what makes him the way he is you wanna throw in the towel and erase the part that humanizes him? Fuck. You.
You can't make a complex Bruce Wayne and take away parts that help audiences understand his complexities, that's fucking STUPID!
Titans, for all its faults and problems, will always have my gratitude as it had the fucking balls to give, without a doubt, the best and most rounded live-action adaptation of Dick Grayson we have ever seen. Titans introduces Dick at a very important and rocky time in his character arch: him leaving Bruce.
If you're not in the know, there's a falling out between Bruce and Dick that's been written a couple different ways over the years, but all comes down to Dick being "fired" from being Robin and leaving Gotham. This is a bit of a newer story line in comparison to how long the character of Dick Grayson has been around, and eventually leads to Dick becoming independent from Bruce, signalling his evolution from "side kick" to his own hero, Nightwing. However, there's issues with Dick having to give up the Robin mantel, because it's something that is whole-heartily Dick Grayson. Robin wasn't something Bruce Wayne came up with, it was the nickname his parents gave to him. Even the colors are his, those were the colors of the Flying Graysons' uniforms. Robin is much more than just a vigilante alter-ego to Dick, it is the last link he has to his past and his parents. So when this is taken away from him and given to another, this causes a huge internal struggle for Dick, as he has to deal with the anger he now has for Bruce, a man he originally looked up to and idolized. This is Dick seeing how wrong it was for Bruce to do some of the things he did to Dick, despite at the time those choices being what both needed.
The way Titans is able to portray this extremely delicate time in Dick's story line in a way that not only makes sense for his character, but also allows for growth is really admirable. Like I said, the show isn't perfect by any means (can I PLEASE get a Romani actor to play Dick PLEASE) but it's the first time I feel that the character is wholeheartedly taken serious in a live-action setting. You can tell the writers have a better idea about how the characters should interact in a live-action setting and while some choices are questionable to me, the heart is there.
Nolan's movies in comparison feel soulless and devoid of all creativity and love. He does not care about these characters, no matter how much he tries to make you think that, and he never will. Christopher Nolan, you will NEVER convince me that you give two shits about Bruce Wayne. And if you, the director, can't bother to care, why should the audience? Why should I care about your adaptation if you can't even be bothered to put an ounce of individuality into it?
With Matt Reeves' Batman films underway, things are getting worse again. For a while, we only had to deal with the shitty Joker adaptations that tried to replicate Ledger's Joker, but with the Reeves Batman movies, the film bros are making themselves known again. I remember when the new design for the Riddler dropped and I said it was shit and people on Twitter and YouTube got SO PISSY at me and told me I just don't understand Batman and that I'm childish for enjoying the designs for Gotham Riddler/ Batman Forever Riddler and whatever and that I'm stupid, which none of those things are true, I hate to be confident in anything, but I think I know more about Batman than you do, Twitter troll.
The suit sucked and the character sucked. They just created a new character but gave him the Riddler's name. That's NOT the Riddler. That's honestly closer to Hush than Riddler, so just... do that? But of course, less people know about Hush than Riddler, and you're not trying to make a film for fans, you're trying to make money, so why would you ever be so silly as to do that! I'm not gonna talk to much about the new Riddler, just because it's super old news and it's not the point I was trying to make here, it's just something that continues to piss me off when it comes to gritty recreations of characters, because Riddler really never was supposed to be some Zodiac Killer wannabe, he's supposed to be a guy who leaves you riddles and makes you solve them and he's supposed to be a little silly about it. And I'm not saying you can't do a more gritty Riddler, because Arkham Knights did it super well imo! Just don't reinvent the wheel! Don't just make a new character and call him by another's name, that's a disservice to the character themselves and their creators.
This is a hard topic, because you have people who get the point of these characters (people who have actually read a comic before and paid attention to the story) but you also have insufferable film/comic bros who worship the ground Nolan and Reeves walks upon and who don't even take time to explore the rest of the Batfamily comics (his gang of vigilante children show up in the stand-alone Batman comics, though, so I don't know how they're missing this, unless they have the reading comprehension of a goldfish, which they probably do tbh). It's why I think a lot of these weirdos don't like Gotham Knights or Wayne Family Adventures, because they hate the thought of there being any semblance of fun in the Batman franchise. Not everything needs to be doom and gloom! Let Dick Grayson be bisexual and let Bruce Wayne have a PTA rival! You can have your cake and eat it too!
I know this seems like a silly sentiment coming from a person who just wrote an entire essay on this, but maybe don't take Batman so seriously? I don't mean, of course, that you can't care about these characters, I'm actually saying the opposite! I care very deeply for these characters, so much that I obviously spat all this out. I just think some people need to fucking chill when it comes to realistically portraying Batman. There's nothing wrong with taking a more serious approach to the characters and I have no problem modernizing them, but you can't just have action hero Batman, you have to have the human behind the mask too. And if you can't balance that, then I'm sorry, but you shouldn't be making Batman adaptations, because you obviously don't understand what the character is about.
I'm nervous to see where Reeves will go with the character, and only time will tell. I've heard rumors he plans to introduce Robin, I've heard rumors he doesn't. Either way, it's obviously out of my hands and I'll have opinions either way, but I really hope he has a better understanding of the history of the franchise than Nolan. While I appreciate, again, what Nolan did for revolutionizing not only the Batman franchise but the comic movie industry as well, I can still find faults in how he went about things. I truly don't believe we can have a worthy adaptation of Batman live action without Robin and without embracing the silliness of Batman's villains and I really hope producers, writers, and directors realize that soon.
Sorry if you read all that...

What's your dream lineup for the MCU X-Men?
Honestly? I hate the MCU movies.
I have zero excitement for X-Men because Disney definitely won’t let directors DO “Claremont-esque” 80’s space soap opera X-Men or Grant Morrison’s batshit crazy era.
Even “X-Men ‘97” I dislike because I don’t like the pacing (the original series did a better job at “sitting with” certain comic stories and decades for a while)….
I was someone who was pissed about FOX being bought out- I LOVED Logan and the first Deadpool and was excited about the possibility of an “X-23” film or “Multiple Man” film…
Even the original X-Men films, I thought were fine, even if they weren’t as good as the comics- directors at least showcased powers in an interesting way and films like “DoFP” I thought did a great job at humanizing Xavier (something the comics consistently fail at)
Even FF, which was the supposed “benefit” of Disney having full rights, looks like it’s going to bomb- it’s not like we’re getting a cool Doom out of this Capitalistic merger.
Truthfully- I feel like MCU and WB is running super hero films into the ground and will inevitably kill the genre in a year or two, with how things are going.

• she is an IPAD KID. i will not take arguments on this she sits on her kindle fire or whatever right before bed and scrolls through whatever social media app.
• we know she likes cats (chewie/goose) but she also likes to volunteer at animal shelters and take dogs for runs
• she listens to a majority of 70's-early 80's classic rock music because thats when she was growing up and because i said so
• she's very Ilona Maher to me, with less knowlage of the internet
• she doesn't let people like bully her for her age, shes kinda like MCU bucky in that "i read the hobbit when it came out" kinda way
• she despises mechanics if you tell her you're thinking about going she will lecture you about how they over charge you WHILE fixing your car

my character/movie-based playlists:
arisu ryohei (alice in borderland, 2020): sad japanese playlist for one of my fav characters from one of my favorite tv shows ever
arthur fleck (joker, 2019): 60's music that i felt really encapsulated arthur and his mental state in the first film.
joker: folie à deux (2024): i actually really like this movie and idk why people hate it so much, so i made a playlist that i think harley and arthur would've listened to together if they had ended up living together
beautiful boy (2018): songs that i feel represent both Nic and his father. rlly tragic, sorry.
chandler bing (friends, 1994): playlist i made right after matthew perry died (r.i.p. to a legend). i think chandler would love these songs and some of these songs are canon.
the substance (2024): not the kind of playlist you're thinking about. It's basically just 80's music that i think would be played during an old episode of 'Sparkle Your Life!'. It's basically just a glorfied jazzercise playlist.
charlie kelmeckis(the perks of being a wallflower, 2012): my idea of what charlie would have on his mixtape. Some songs are canon from the movie and book.
challengers (2024): i loved the soundtrack of this movie just as much as i loved the film itself. because of my almost overwhelming love for it, i decided to make a high energy playlist that i think could have just as easily been played in the movie alongside actual songs from the soundtrack.
dead poets society (1989): a collection of songs that i think really reflect the vibe of the film for me, not necessarily songs that would fit the time period.
donnie darko (2001): playlist that shows donnies declining mental state in the film.
mr.robot (2015): songs that i think elliot would enjoy but also describe his descent.
fight club (1999): songs for the narrator and how he feels during his 6 month bout of insomnia. this playlist is my personal favorite bcs i'm also an insomniac (twinning)
tony stark/iron man (marvel/MCU 2008-2019): literally my favorite character from the MCU ever. bcs of this i decided i NEEDED to make a playlist for him based on songs that i know he likes based on the movies and songs that i think he would like
glee (2009-2015): all my favorite songs from the series in release order simply bcs this is my favorite show of all time
the bear (2022): songs that i think carmy would listen to while yelling "behind!" at his chefs.
you (2018): songs that describe joe goldberg from you, not necessarily stuff he would like (he's much too pretentious to enjoy olivia rodrigo).
the batman (2022): everyone say "thank you robert pattinson" for providing us with the true version of batman: emo batman. my batman is a greasy weirdo that looks like he's about to burst out in tears all the time. in honor of this truly revolutionary movie i have created a playlist that this batman would listen to as he applies his ungodly amount of eyeshadow before terrorizing gotham city in a bat costume.
pearl (2022): a playlist that reminds me of the monologue scene in pearl where she says "i don't feel...well" because i really felt that. once again, not necessarily songs that match the time period or the characters potential interests.
lady bird (2017): lady bird is one of those movies where i'm pretty sure the director was in my house monitoring my daily movements for inspiration. naturally, i needed to make a playlist that i think completely captures the feeling of growing up with a not-so-healthy relationship with your mother.
gone girl (2014): a playlist based on the "cool girl" monologue and how it feels to feel forced to play a caricature of a woman just to for a man.
gone girl (2014): this time it's a nick dunne inspired playlist because unfortunately i relate to him (more so, book version nick). take that info how you will.
miles morales (spider-man: into the spider-verse, 2018): best spider-man, idc. ~ él es el mejor spider-man, no me importa.
jughead jones (riverdale, 2017): songs that i think jughead would have loved.
american psycho (2000): a mix of songs that patrick bateman would listen to in his headphones on his way to work and songs that i think describe him.
little women (2019): specifically this is a playlist based on how i think laurie felt during the famous scene where he confesses his feelings to jo.
fiona gallagher (shameless, 2011-2021): a playlist that i think represents how fiona feels as the older sister and neglected child that she is.
the iron claw (2023): songs that represent the tragedy of the story of the von erich family but also the beautiful bond of the brothers. Once again, these are not all time period accurate.
black swan (2010): a playlist based on nina. lots of swan references in the titles.
jake peralta (brooklyn nine nine, 2013-2021): i love andy samberg and i love jake peralta. he is my favorite character in another on of my favorite shows of all time so it's only natural that i create a playlist based on what i believe is on jake peralta's spotify. this is comprised of songs that are confirmed that jake likes on the show and also songs from taylor swift bcs that is jakes favorite artist and some songs that i think jake would like.
jay gatsby (the great gatsby, 2013): songs that i think represent gatsby's mental state while waiting for daisy to come to one of his parties
bones and all (2022): this playlist was actually made by my friend in slideshow form and then i copied her and made into a spotify playlist
the little prince (2015): i absolutely loved this movie and book when i experienced it for the first time in highschool so i decided that it was high time i make a playlist dedicated to the story.
taxi driver (1976): a mix of songs based on the time period, things that travis bickle would listen to while driving, and songs that encapsulate the movie.
nightcrawler (2014): songs that represent lou bloom, not necessarily songs he would listen to because i don't actually believe he would listen to music on his own.
peeta mellark (hunger games, 2012): ,ovies i think peeta would either enjoy, or capture his personality and plight throughout the movies.
may december (2023): i love this movie SO MUCH, so i ofc had to make a dedicated playlist. it's through the perspective of joe ofc.
eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (2004): playlist based on the rocky relationship between clementine and joel.
mother (2020): for those who don't know, this is a japanese film based on a true story about a toxic mother and her relationship to her son. so this playlist is based on the perspective of the son, shuhei.
clay jensen (13 reasons why, 2017): playlist that clay would listen to in between tapes.
girl, interrupted (1999): a playlist loosely based on the mindset of the character of daisy
peter parker/spider-man (spider-man, 2002): i never see any love for tobey maguire's spider-man and that ends today bcs he's one of my favorite versions of spider-man. so i've created a playlist that i think tobey's version of spider-man would dance to in the streets, venom/symbiote style.
prisoners (2013): unsettling and melancholy playlist inspired by this film and the perspective of detective loki, one of the main characters.
rush hour trilogy (1998-2007): if lee and carter had a shared mixtape, it would have all these songs on it.
sam evans (glee, 2009): another one of my favorite playlists bcs i'm just so proud of it. like, absolutely sam would love this playlist. i included some glee versions of songs he sang, but only ones that i liked better than the original.
sound of metal (2019): songs that i feel express ruben's reaction to his deafness and his struggle to accept change.
troy bolton (high school musical, 2006): i absolutely LOVE this franchise and so i think i'm qualified to say that troy bolten would love himself some 2000's rnb. This is why i've taken upon the burden and pleasure of making him a playlist that he would jam out to.
scott pilgrim vs. the world (2010): songs inspired by sex bob-omb and the overall playful vibes of the movie.
good will hunting (1997): these are songs that i think will would include in his rotation or songs that represent the journey that will takes during the movie.
the hunt (2012): this was a very tragic movie about a man who suffers greatly based on a false accusation. one of my worst fears is not being believed when i haven't done anything. truly there is nothing worse than injustice and with this selection of songs i tried to convey the dread, sadness, and overwhelming rage that the main character, lucas, felt when everyone he knew turned on him.
mother (2020): playlist based off the japanese drama movie i watched about the toxic relationship between mother and son. you'll probably relate to this playlist if you have mommy issues.
romeo & juliet (1996): songs that encapsulate the tragedy of their relationship. yes 'exit music (for a film)' by radiohead is involved.
the holdovers (2023): this is my actual family. lots of 60's and 70's music.
christopher moltisanti (the sopranos, 1999): one of my favorite characters from the show bcs he's unfortunately very relatable to me. mostly based on what he said in the first season, "it's like the regularness of life is too hard for me." I get that.
abigail armstrong (dance academy, 2009): based on a quote from season 1 where she said "you all want me to fail." Abigail has this need to be perfect and she feels like she's all alone, so i thought that I would turn those feelings into a playlist bcs i can relate.
tara and christian (dance academy, 2009): based off the tumultuous relationship between main characters, tara and christian. based off the quote from season 3 where tara says to christian "i just want so badly to be rid of you". even if you don't know the show, i hope you can enjoy the sad break up playlist of it all.
wanda maximoff (mcu, 2015): she be sad and crazy and stuff
heres my letterboxd account btw (just in case you were curious about how i rated these films): https://boxd.it/3mh3D

What your DR says about you!
⚠️Disclaimer: This is a joke; I have nothing against anyone ⚠️
Harry Potter
You're a self-proclaimed bookworm/nerd and you either crave familiar comfort, want to experience a childhood, or have a thing for racist blonde boys with daddy issues. You probably also think of yourself as dark and mysterious, but you're really just extremely introverted. You may have also gotten into Shifting when it first got popular and made this DR because you didn't want to feel left out.
Marvel/MCU
You like violence and power fantasy. You probably also have a very specific relationship with one of the characters and because of this you think of them significantly differently than any other character in the entire universe. You're maybe also very creative and/or good at making edit videos because holy crap y'all make some amazing stuff on the internet.
Fame DR
No one paid attention to you as a child and so you like to fantasize about having fans and being well-known. You definitely scripted unlimited money and if you're a singer you scripted your songs as being by Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, etc. If you're an actor/actress you probably scripted yourself into random movies that you like. You probably also have a random celebrity as your S/O.
Any horror movie/franchise
You're terrifying and you either scripted a really long list of safety precautions or none at all. You probably have a thing for traumatized middle aged men or angry teenage boys. However, if your DR is FNAF, you just want to party with dead children that are possessing animatronics, which I fully respect.
My Hero Academia
You scripted that you're basically impossible to defeat and you gave yourself 3+ quirks. You have a crush on one of the three main boys (or all three). You might have also scripted that one or both of your parents are pure evil. You maybe also scripted that your DR-self looks like you but with a different aesthetic.
K-pop DR
You love attention and you're creative enough to come up with a whole discography, which is honestly really impressive. You practice dancing when you're alone, and you watch and/or make fan edits of K-pop idols. You also probably scripted some kind of cute scenarios between you and your S/o.
YouTuber/Streamer DR
You have a crush on a YouTuber/Streamer, and you most likely have something to do with Markiplier, Sam and Colby, or any members of the DSMP in your DR. You probably scripted a face claim of a girl with long brown or dyed hair and winged eyeliner.
Parent DR
You are a very caring person, and you really want to experience being a parent. Or alternatively, you don't care for kids and just want to see what it's like. You probably also scripted that your family is rich.
Stranger Things
You are obsessed with the 80s, especially the music. You probably scripted that Eddie is your friend and/or s/o, and you have a very long list of safety precautions in your script.

Sadie Sink casting, maybe, this character gets introduced in the Brand New Day comic, and fans really hate her, because the writers ruined Peter and MJ's marriage because of Mephisto, he erased their memories of EVERYTHING, meaning they ruined their relationship, and in this comic they introduce this girl and make her Peter's new love interest (although for a short time). Something I've discovered by reading the comics fans is that, obviously, MJ is the best of Peter's love interests, because she loves him as much as she does Spiderman, but for years (now too) in the comics they don't do justice to her because they hate her, and in the movies, although Raimi did a good job, it still doesn't show how good and great their love is (for a reason they were Stan Lee's favorite Marvel couple), that's why maybe some fans ask that for the next trilogy Zendaya's MJ can be more like her original version (they say the one from the 80s-90s is the best), since she is his best love interest and they have one of the most beautiful stories, that if they do it right, they could be the best couple in the MCU portrayed on screen https://x.com/ultra__mayhem/status/1936837023106490543?s=46
So the idea is that for peter and mj’s love to be great, mj needs to be a glamorous model?

This is a hard post for me to make but I think I need to write it down.
I don’t care about the newest Jurassic World movie.
I wish I did. I wish I was excited. But Hollywood has beaten any love I had for the franchise out of me. Like many paleontologists of my generation, the original Jurassic Park means a lot to me. The original Lost World novel from Crichton was the first “adult” novel I ever read (3rd grade, trapped inside during a hurricane). But these new movies don’t have what the older ones did. It’s not just nostalgia either.
The first movie LOVED paleontology. The first novel, and especially its sequel, also ADORED paleontology as a science. It’s practically dripping from every page, monologue, and shot from the movies. The first movie in particular is such a love letter to the Dinosaur Renaissance! The field site looks just like one in real life, the science was attempting to show what modern science was trying to reflect at the time. There is no greater act of appreciation to 80’s and 90’s paleontology than these novels and films.
But all of this was dropped for the newer films. These aren’t love letters to paleontology. They aren’t even love letters to the original films. They display hardly anything of modern paleontology. They’re monster films and that’s not what I want, personally.
I don’t care anymore. Many of my colleagues don’t care anymore. Why should we? They aren’t about paleontology. They’re Marvel movies in disguise and I’ve had enough of the MCU without adding more to it from other franchises.

taking the bait wh0o'S Ratchet
me when you take the bait:

ok hes basically my half baked mcu oc this is pretty much all i know about him (this is not coherant): name: ratchet
birth name: kieran smith
lore: was trafficked as a child into the Madripoor (fictional marvel crime country) fighting rings as a child. was a successful fighter (and killer) with a bunch of sponsors before he had even hit puberty. was stolen out of his home (cage) in his early teens and thought he was being rescued from the rings. he was taken to a rogue AIM (advanced idea mechanics - evil biotech company basically) facility where he had black market alien tech fused with his body lol. he also has a built in HUD which i think is pretty cool even if that would have been traumatic asf. anyway the biotech basically gave him an innate knowledge of machinery and how they work and how he can repurpose them to work the way he wants them to. cue a bunch of explosions as he escapes and detonates the rogue facility. he then became a hitman/bounty hunter in Madripoor under the name Ratchet and earned himself quite a reputation for making unstable but highly effective weapons on the fly. he was eventually caught after a failed high profile assassination. ENTERING THUNDERBOTLS* CANON: his trial was halted when valentina gave him an ultimatum between prison or working under her. he chose the latter.
looks: olive skin, sharp features, dark eyes that reflect strangely in the dark. freckles. TOOTH GAP. messy longish hair that he cuts with rusty kitchen scissors while looking in a dirty mirror. wiry lean build, practical muscle but not bulky and quite short (hows that childhood malnutrition working out for you?). has a number identification tattoo from the rings, probably behind his right ear. has a bunch of poorly done tattoos he either did himself or got for cheap. has a bunch of ear piercings (maybe some facial piercings i havnt decided yet). big on the diy aesthetic. mostly wears a white singlet covered in grease stains and cargo pants when hes off duty. on duty basically the same but with steel capped boots, a cropped black jacket with RATCHET on the back, probably has half working led lights along the stitching, goggles, and fingerless gloves. probably has an attachable tablet with a tactical display on his left forearm.
personality: FREAK FREAK FREAK. arrogant smartass seductive violent conniving manipulative dictator. knows exactly what buttons to push to gain the upper hand. keeps a scoreboard on his HUD on his kills, who has crossed him and who has helped him. never forgets a name, sucks at faces tho. doesnt care about collateral damage. probably a masochist. think pre-shimmer jinx levels of unstable. like deadpool but uh.... evil. after his "reform" he no longer kills for money, but for fun. the pr team is working overtime on this fucking guy. probably does hard drugs to relax. likes to get rises out of people. is only allowed to be interviewed if hes in a group and under no circumstances is he allowed to drive (but he does anyway). has a strong disregard for pretty much every law in every country. basically summarised as: likes to kill and doesnt care if he dies in the process.
trivia tidbits: once killed an entire military team sent to apprehend him except for the leader and then mailed to dogtags of his fallen squadron back to him. has a blended french-american accent. listens to pirated music (mostly 80's-90's pop punk) on a homemade mp3 player. built a companion/med bot called 8UD-E (pronounced buddy) which stores a range of injectable "heals" (its either adrenaline, cocaine, or caffeine depending on the situation). 8UD-E communicates in beeps and trills that only ratchet can fully understand. he only ever goes by ratchet, barely even remembers his birth name himself.
in closing: HOLY YAP SESH. im a sucker for a tragic child soldier character, what can i say. ill add him to the list next to alastair and silas.

Emily VanCamp as SHARON CARTER/AGENT 13 in original concepts
Celebrating Sharon Carter Month with this cruel concepts for her classical costume in the MCU!
My take for a more stylized version comes from Xenoblade actually, with the black details. Since Black Widow pretty much has donned the Agent 13 costume in her movie (let's not talk about how people called Sharon a copycat when the concept art for FaTWS appeared), I think they need to make her white suit differentiate, but not to the point of no-recognition.
(My head-cannon is that mcu!Sharon is undercover in Madripoor, and will use all the tech she has available as the Power Broker to create a very advanced and stylish bodysuit).
As for the classical costume I was actually going to do a 90/80's au concepts with Cap!Family, but tried with Emily and loved it.
I actually did those a looooong time ago, gave them a few retouches now...
#sharon carter#emily vancamp#sharon carter month#my girl deserved so much better#also#emily needs to try these hair styles!

Are you writing bw!mc based on the comics or the movies? I’m asking bc I read that they are apparently completely different (like natasha being born in the 30s in the comics and in the 80s in the movies)
VERY GOOD QUESTION. i've mentioned this before but the marvel universe that exists in my head is a comic/mcu mixture because the mcu has the coherent/linear continuity and marvel comics has a better plot(s) (and the xmen). so both??? HAHA not to be too confusing but also it's not like you actually need to know much about marvel and i plan to keep it that way. that being said there's no super serum aging. bwmc is biologically mid/late 20s
#fun fact she actually doesn't know her real age!#only in relative to natasha in which she's a year younger#sot
