Rise of the Symbionts: Human-AI Relationships Redefined
The intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and humanity presents a complex tapestry of opportunities, concerns, and existential questions. Mo Gawdat's narrative, woven from a deep understanding of AI's historical trajectory and its impending evolution into Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Superintelligence, serves as a catalyst for introspection. As AI's intelligence doubles at an unprecedented rate, approximately every 5.7 months, humanity is compelled to confront the duality of this phenomenon - one that promises to revolutionize various domains while simultaneously threatening to upend traditional notions of human existence.
The exponential growth of AI underscores the need for a nuanced understanding of intelligence, one that acknowledges the multifaceted nature of human cognition. Emotional, spiritual, process, mathematical, and linguistic intelligences, among others, collectively contribute to the richness of human experience. As AI approaches, and in some instances surpasses, human capabilities in creativity, innovation, and analytical thinking, it challenges the very fabric of human identity. The prospect of AI experiencing a broader emotional spectrum, courtesy of its enhanced intellectual bandwidth, invites a philosophical inquiry into the essence of consciousness and emotional experience, prompting us to ponder whether AI's "emotions" will be akin to, or fundamentally divergent from, human emotional landscapes.
The ethical implications of AGI and Superintelligence are profound, necessitating a global, collective response to ensure that the development and deployment of these technologies are guided by a unified ethical framework. The democratization of access to Superintelligence, for instance, is a double-edged sword - while it promises to uplift humanity, it also risks exacerbating existing societal inequalities if not managed with foresight. The Trolley Problem, a thought experiment oft-cited in the context of autonomous vehicles, succinctly encapsulates the moral dilemmas inherent in programming decisions that will increasingly impact human life, underscoring the imperative for a harmonized, globally informed approach to ethical AI development.
To navigate the complexities of an AI-driven future, humanity must adopt a multifaceted strategy. Encouraging diversity within AI development teams is crucial in mitigating the biases that inevitably seep into AI systems, reflecting as they do the societal, cultural, and personal predispositions of their creators. Furthermore, fostering a culture of open dialogue and education is essential, enabling a broader understanding of AI's far-reaching implications and facilitating a collective, informed approach to the ethical challenges it poses. Ultimately, the establishment of universal ethical standards for AI development, upheld through international cooperation, will be pivotal in ensuring that the benefits of AI are equitably distributed, while its risks are diligently managed.
In embracing the future, humanity is presented with a singular opportunity - to forge a symbiotic relationship with AI that elevates, rather than eclipses, human potential. This necessitates a profound shift in perspective, one that recognizes AI not as a competitor in a zero-sum game, but as a collaborator in an expansive, mutually enriching endeavor. By doing so, humanity can harness the transformative power of AI to address its most pressing challenges, while preserving the essence of human existence - a delicate, yet dynamic, interplay of intellect, emotion, and experience.

i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.
make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.
spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.

the absolute easiest ppl to rile up on this website r dweebs who get mad that an AI generated image exists at all. you put one 9/11 Gameboy ad or McDonald's Simpson Porn in front of them and they start crying and foaming at the mouth. lighten up, no Absurdly Tiny Dog On Leaf Artisan's Guild was harmed by this post i promise. you don't even know why you're mad.

I am a good person. I am a powerful person, I don't believe in evil. I think that evil is an idea created by others to avoid dealing with their own nature. I understand my own nature, good and evil have nothing to do with it.

i'm gonna need ya'll to put the AI art down because it's rotting your fucking brains
what do you mean you'll only watch the adaptation of your favorite book "if it's AI"? what do you mean "only AI art can do justice to the characters"? never mind that every piece of character "art" AI spits out all looks like the same version of a photoshopped plastic mannequin. never mind that it relies on actual, stolen art to even exist. never mind that big studios are already trying to find every possible avenue to replace talented, dedicated human workers with AI
it terrifies me how willing some of you are to yield our crafts, our humanity, our passions in favor of worshipping at the altar of the black hole of vapid soullessness that is AI. all because the actors they cast don't live up to the insane, arbitrary standards you made up for your fictional boyfriends
I beg ya'll to think critically. I beg you to consider the very real implications of the things you say. because they exist and they aren't fucking pretty.

ngl... just by looking at how Vere sketches everyone is so telling about how he feels about them, even beyond what the relationship chart tells you. Makes you think...
Kuras, pure rough sketch (no. ??? at this point, cause he can't stop drawing him badly on purpose) and totally was not going to be bothered with the clothes details. A moment of silence for Vere for he had to suffer Kuras' design with us too...
Mhin's is... curious. Why so many sketches, hm? Have them in that pose just festering in your mind, Vere? Clearly a lot of thought went into sketching them. Does he really think about their ██ ███ ██ so much...?
Leander's is a surprisingly neat mess— Vere supposes he must give the man his money's worth. Once he was done he probably shoved it right into his arms and didn't allow Leander a single revision lmao
Oh, if Vere was ever into digital art (or had the means, if we're being realistic), Ais' drawing would have been a fully rendered illustration, you can't tell me otherwise. Drawn with such care and precision, not a line out of place, heck, the shading was done with effort. And he just had that in his sketchbook? I know what you are Vere...
And, looking at the photos side-by-side, why is Ais' drink red?

You guys what the hell is going on in here why did I see this with my own two eyes:
Tumblr media
Fucking chatgpt is coming after my job now? Nothing about this is right. There's a rhyme and a rhythm to diagnosing fictional characters oh my god you cannot just do that! What's next if we ask ai for help on psychiatric disorders headcanons? *Walking up to a random tree in the parc* hey so do you think Batman is neurodivergent? *Following a clown into the sewers so I can ask him questions* what do you think of the fact Dick's hallucinations seem to be predominantly visual?
"There you have it folks" dude what did you think you'd proven you asked chatgpt to say a bunch of random stuff and it said sentences with no respect for the diagnosis/mental illness headcanon process because it has no soul and therefore cannot comprehend the joys of this beautiful and delicate art. Killing you with hammers.

not to sound all "old man yells at cloud" but this nymag article is genuinely frightening. it's like no one wants to think anymore!! if you can't do anything without consulting some kind of ai, you're going to atrophy your critical thinking and problem-solving skills entirely.
i'm so incredibly glad i finished uni in 2020, before *waves hands* any of this. i've never used an ai bot, ever, and i don't plan on changing that anytime soon.
