Apple M4 Powers Up the iMac: Blazing Speed for Creatives
Apple M4 iMac Predictions
24 Apple iMac
Apple M4 chips may be introduced when Apple updates the 24-inch iMac in 2024. Apple intends to update the Mac series, including the iMac, with AI-focused M4 CPUs. This document details Apple’s M4 iMac ambitions.
Apple M4
Apple may incorporate the M4 chip from the latest iPad Pro models in the forthcoming 24-inch iMac. Since iMacs have M3 chips, the M4 will be a direct upgrade.
Apple M4 is a second-generation chip based on the M3’s 3-nanometer technology with performance and efficiency improvements. Apple M4 CPU outscored M3 chip by 25% in Geekbench benchmark test, suggesting considerable performance boost.
The Apple M4 had 3,695 single-core and 14,550 multi-core scores, compared to 3,087 and 11,702 for the M3.
Apple’s M4 processor has a 10-core GPU and CPU with four performance and six efficiency cores. Apple uses an M4 with a 9-core CPU in the iPad Pro, but the iMac may not have it.
Other Macs will have upgraded M4 Pro, M4 Max, and M4 Ultra CPUs, while the 24-inch iMac, which is equal in price to the MacBook Air, will only have the M4 chip.
Create
No signs suggest Apple will revamp the iMac soon the last overhaul was in 2021. The 2024 iMac refresh may focus internal improvements over exterior design changes.
Computers and displays are merged in the iMac. It fits on a desktop due to its narrow profile and 11.5mm thickness. It has a pastel chin and comes in bright shades.
They know of no iMac enhancements other than the Apple M4 chip.
Larger iMac?
Despite rumours, a 30-inch iMac was still in development in mid-2023. Its release date is unknown. As of May 25, 2024, Apple has no larger iMac. Current 24-inch iMacs include M3 chips. In 2024, rumours of a bigger iMac with an M-series CPU had faded. Apple hasn’t confirmed a 30-inch model for 2025.
Expect a larger iMac: Rumours say Apple may sell a larger iMac in the future.
Connect Mac to external display: You can add a larger external monitor to your iMac or Mac mini. This maximises screen space and lets you choose size and resolution.
Consider Mac Studio: The Mac Studio is fast and may be used with a larger display for a strong desktop arrangement.
Launch Day
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expected a 24-inch iMac M4 processor update “around the end of the year.” The iMac may launch at October or November Apple events with new Macs. Pre-year MacBook Pro and Mac mini improvements are anticipated. Since the iMac was updated in October 2023, an October 2024 release would conclude the year.
The M4 processor outperforms the M3 with a 10-core CPU (6 efficiency and 4 performance) and GPU. Hardware-accelerated ray tracing and 16-core Neural Engine are featured. The M4 iMac could handle video editing and 3D rendering.
Apple iMac M3
They expect the new iMac to have a 24-inch Retina 4.5K display like the M3 model. Apple may possibly offer more colours for the upcoming iMac, like the M2 model. The M4 iMac will be a major upgrade from the M3. Keep an eye out for Apple’s M4-powered iMac later this year if you want a powerful and adaptable desktop.
Based on rumours and leaks, the M4 iMac may include these features:
The next-generation 24-inch iMac is believed to have the M4 chip, which Apple used in the current iPad Pro versions.
The M4, a second-generation microprocessor with faster and more efficient performance, uses the same 3-nanometer technology as the M3.
The M4 outperformed the M3 on Geekbench by 25%. Apple’s M4 processor contains a 10-core CPU and GPU with six efficiency and four performance cores.
Design: The M4 iMac will have a slim, colourful aluminium casing like the M3.
Seven brilliant colors blue, green, pink, silver, space grey, yellow, and orange are likely.
256GB of M4 iMac storage can be expanded to 2TB of SSD storage.
The M4 iMac will have 8GB of starting memory and up to 16GB of unified memory.
Reports and leaks suggest these specs for Apple’s M4 iMac:
M4 Chip had 10 cores: 4 efficient, 6 performant.
Ten cores and second-generation 3-nanometers make the GPU more efficient and performant than M3.
24-inch 4.5K Retina screen, True Tone, P3 colour gamut.
SSDs start at 256GB and RAM up to 2TB.
Standard unified memory is 8GB, customisable to 16GB.
Dual SDXC card slots, USB-C connections, Thunderbolt 4 connectors.
From last update, there was no mention of a “M4 iMac.” Apple regularly updates their products with newer processors and features. Apple’s custom Mac CPUs are generally labelled “M”.
The M1 chip, which delivered exceptional performance and energy economy, changed Apple’s desktop and laptop computers. An M4 iMac may use this special silicon to boost power and efficiency. I prefer Apple’s official releases or trusted tech sources for the most accurate and current information.

The Latest iPad Release: A Leap Forward or A Missed Opportunity?
Apple has once again made headlines with the release of its latest iPad models. The tech giant unveiled the new iPad Pro with the M4 chip and the redesigned iPad Air with the M2 chip. While these devices are undoubtedly impressive, there's a lingering question: Is the iPad OS truly worthy of the M4 chip?
The New iPad Pro: A Tech Marvel
The new iPad Pro is a testament to Apple's engineering prowess. It features a stunningly thin and light design, available in two sizes: an expansive 13-inch model and a super-portable 11-inch model. Both sizes boast the world’s most advanced display — a new breakthrough Ultra Retina XDR display with state-of-the-art tandem OLED technology.
The real star of the show, however, is the M4 chip. This next-generation silicon delivers a huge leap in performance and capabilities. It features a new display engine, a next-generation GPU, and the most powerful Neural Engine yet. With these specs, the new iPad Pro is an outrageously powerful device for artificial intelligence.
The Redesigned iPad Air: More Power, More Versatility
The new iPad Air, now available in two sizes for the first time, is supercharged by the M2 chip. It offers phenomenal performance, a landscape front-facing camera, and faster Wi-Fi. With a portable design, all-day battery life, a brilliant Liquid Retina display, and support for Apple Pencil Pro, the iPad Air is more powerful and versatile than ever before.
The M4 Chip and the iPad OS: A Mismatch?
Despite the impressive specs and capabilities of the new iPad Pro, there's a point of contention: the iPad OS. The question is, "Is the iPad OS truly worthy of the M4 chip?"
The M4 chip is a powerhouse. It's designed to handle complex tasks and deliver high performance. However, the iPad OS, in its current state, may not fully utilize the capabilities of the M4 chip. The OS is primarily designed for simpler tasks and doesn't offer the same level of flexibility and functionality as a full-fledged desktop OS.
While the iPad OS has seen significant improvements over the years, it still falls short in certain areas. For instance, it lacks a proper file system and doesn't support certain professional-grade software. These limitations can hinder the user experience, especially for power users who want to leverage the full potential of the M4 chip.
Conclusion
The new iPad Pro and iPad Air are undoubtedly impressive devices. They offer top-notch performance, advanced capabilities, and a sleek design. However, the iPad OS may not fully leverage the power of the M4 chip. It's a missed opportunity for Apple, as a more robust and flexible OS could have truly unlocked the potential of these devices.
As Apple continues to push the boundaries of what's possible with its devices, one can only hope that the iPad OS will evolve to match the capabilities of the hardware. Until then, the debate on whether the iPad OS is worthy of the M4 chip will continue.

Steam for Mac Brings New Life to Apple Gaming
Introduction
Mac gaming has come a long way, and a major reason behind that progress is Steam. Once limited to PC gamers, Steam now plays a vital role in making gaming accessible to Apple users.
Using Steam for Mac today isn’t just possible—it’s a game-changer. Whether you're running a MacBook Air or a high-end iMac, Steam unlocks access to a vast library of games, features, and multiplayer tools tailored for the macOS environment.
What Makes Steam for Mac Different from Windows?
Compatibility challenges and feature limitations
Steam on macOS doesn’t support every game in the Steam library. That’s because many developers don’t build Mac versions of their titles. Moreover, some popular Steam features may behave differently or be entirely unavailable on macOS, especially with newer Apple Silicon chips.
Optimization differences between Steam for Mac and Steam for PC
The performance gap is also noticeable in some cases. While Steam for Mac is optimized for Metal graphics API and Apple hardware, it doesn’t yet match the customization and driver-level performance enhancements seen on Windows.
Installing Steam on a Mac the Right Way
Step-by-step download and installation guide
To install Steam, visit the official Steam website and download the macOS version. Open the .dmg file, drag Steam into your Applications folder, and run the app. It will automatically update itself before launching.
Setting up your Steam account for first-time users on macOS
Once installed, create a free Steam account or log in if you already have one. From there, you can access the full game store, library, and community features available in Steam for Mac.
System Requirements and Supported macOS Versions
Minimum specs for running Steam on Mac smoothly
At minimum, Steam requires macOS 10.11 (El Capitan), 1GB RAM, and an Intel or Apple Silicon processor. However, most modern games need significantly better specs at least 8GB RAM and a dedicated GPU or M-series chip.
How newer macOS updates affect Steam for Mac compatibility
Starting from macOS Catalina, Apple removed support for 32-bit apps. This affected many older Steam games. If you're using Monterey or later, be sure to check compatibility before purchasing a game.
Best Games to Play via Steam for Mac
Top-rated Steam games that run natively on Mac
Some great native titles include Stardew Valley, Civilization VI, Hades, and Total War: Warhammer II. These games are optimized for macOS and provide excellent performance.
Using Proton or Rosetta for playing non-native games
You can play non-native Windows games on Steam for Mac using workarounds like Proton (via third-party tools), Rosetta 2 for Intel apps, or emulators like CrossOver and PlayOnMac.
Using Steam Features on macOS
Accessing the Steam Overlay, Chat, and Workshop on Mac
Steam Overlay, voice chat, and the Steam Workshop are all available in Steam for Mac. However, some Workshop mods may not work if the base game isn’t Mac-compatible.
How Steam Cloud, Remote Play, and Big Picture Mode work for Mac users
Steam Cloud ensures your saves are synced between devices. Remote Play lets you stream games from another PC, and Big Picture Mode gives you a console-style interface, fully usable on macOS.
Performance Tips for Smooth Gaming
Improving game performance on MacBooks and iMacs
Keep your Mac cool, close background apps, and lower in-game resolution or effects. An external monitor and mouse can also enhance gameplay.
Recommended settings for running Steam games efficiently on Mac
Stick to medium settings, enable Metal rendering if available, and update your macOS regularly. M1/M2 chip users should prioritize games with Apple Silicon support for best results.
Alternatives and Emulators for Non-Compatible Games
Running unsupported Steam titles with Wine or Crossover
Tools like Wine, CrossOver, or Bottles help run Windows-exclusive games. They’re not perfect but work well for older or less resource-intensive games.
Using Parallels or Boot Camp for a full Windows Steam experience
Parallels Desktop lets you run Windows in a virtual machine, while Boot Camp (Intel Macs only) allows full dual-booting. Both give you access to full Windows versions of Steam.
Staying Updated and Troubleshooting Issues
Keeping Steam for Mac and your games up to date
Always run the latest version of Steam, and allow automatic game updates. This ensures compatibility with macOS security and feature updates.
Solving common Steam issues on Mac like crashes and launch errors
If Steam won’t launch or crashes, try reinstalling, clearing the download cache, or resetting app permissions in macOS System Settings. Compatibility issues are common with older games.
Conclusion
Steam for Mac has become a valuable portal for Apple gamers, offering hundreds of compatible titles and strong community support. While limitations remain compared to Windows, strategic use of tools and proper setup can unlock a fulfilling gaming experience on Mac.
With constant updates and growing developer support, Mac gamers no longer need to feel left behind. Steam brings Apple into the heart of the gaming world.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is Steam available for all versions of macOS? Steam supports macOS 10.11 and newer, but some games need newer versions or specific system features.
Can I run Windows-only games on Steam for Mac? Yes, tools like CrossOver, Wine, and Parallels allow Mac users to play many Windows-exclusive games.
Is Steam for Mac free to use? Yes, downloading and using Steam on Mac is completely free—just like on Windows.

The MacBook Air now Comes in an All-new M3 Model
After a ton of of rumors and predictions, it looks like Apple was planning an actual product release for the first week of March, although it’s not exactly what some people might have been expecting - with that being said, the Cupertino tech giant announced (sans big event) the debut of its newest MacBook Air models, which now come equipped with the M3 chip, one of Apple’s most powerful computer processors to date. As such, Apple also offers the M3 MacBook Air in two variants, with a more compact 13-inch display model, and a larger 15-inch variant for users who’d like a bit more screen real estate. Aside from upgrades in processing power though, what can we expect with the new MacBook models? Display and External Design Despite coming in two different screen sizes, Apple states that both models come with the same specs in terms of display hardware. The M3 Air features Apple’s trademarked Liquid Retina Display with up to 500 nits of brightness, encased in aluminium shells which come in several colour variants including midnight, starlight, silver and space grey. For physical connectivity, the M3 Air packs MagSafe charging and two USB-C ports for connecting accessories, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Interestingly, there’s now added support for two external displays (with the laptop closed), although it does retain a lot of the usual hardware components that Apple includes with its laptops, such as a Touch ID button, FaceTime camera, and spatial audio support. Performance with M3 Apple M-series chips have always been some of the most impressive processors in the industry, and the company boasts that the new MacBook Air comes with significant strides in overall performance. Apple says that this is due to the M3’s 3nm structure, which packs an 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, and support for up to 24GB of unified memory. Interestingly though, Apple’s promotional product listing compares the M3’s performance to that of the M1 from a few years ago, instead of the more recent M2-family processors. The M3 Air also comes with a 16-core Neural Engine, which Apple says is an ideal setup for AI-integrated tasks, including support for AI models, large language models (LLMs) and diffusion models for image generation locally with great performance. For software, the M3 Air ships with macOS Sonoma, which is the current iteration of Apple’s desktop operating system. Of course, this means that you get all the core Apple desktop programs, as well as apps that are designed to sync with the rest of Apple’s extensive hardware ecosystem, including iPhones, iPads, and Watches. Pricing and Availability If you’re interested in grabbing the new MacBook Air M3, you can order Apple’s latest laptop starting Monday, March 4 via Apple’s online store as well as its physical retail stores, authorized resellers and such. The 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 starts at £1,099 and £999 for education, while the 15‑inch model starts at a slightly more expensive £1,299 price tag, and £1,199 for education. As mentioned earlier, both models are available in midnight, starlight, silver, and space grey. The MacBook Air M3 starts shipping on March 8. Read the full article

7 Things to Know Before Buying a MacBook

If you’re planning to buy a laptop, the chances are you end up picking a MacBook. All Apple products come with an intuitive operating system and sleek design, and the MacBook is one of them. Hardware configuration is another aspect that will grab your attention. Before you buy the MacBook, there are several things that you should know to make an informed purchase. Learning about the educational discounts and processing power available on different variants will help you pick the specs that are right for you. Let’s discuss what you need to know about MacBooks before buying them. Processor In 2020, Apple launched the Silicon chip and moved away from Intel processors. These chips are more power-efficient and include unified memory and better security. The never-seen-before chip-enabled all Apple devices to share a common architecture. Due to the common architecture, developers are now able to optimize their apps more easily. Older Intel-based Macs have their own benefits, as they allow you to install Windows with Boot Camp, Silicon MacBooks are simply efficient, so opt for the latter one. Ports & Connections When working on MacBooks, you will need to connect multiple peripherals to keep the work going. Both MacBook M1 and M2 come with only two Thunderbolt-enabled USB-C ports and an audio jack. In that case, you may turn on AirDrop on Mac to share files wirelessly. MacBook Pro, both 14-inch and 16-inch, gives you multiple connectivity options that include three USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4, an SD card slot, an HDMI port, and a MagSafe port for charging. Identify what ports you need and pick a MacBook that fits your needs. Display Size and Resolution When buying a MacBook, the display and quality or resolution should be the top concern. Most MacBook models in the current lineup feature a Retina display; some variants are better than their counterparts, so dive through the details before buying one. For example, the 16-inch and 14-inch models feature a ProMotion display that supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. If you are a graphic designer, a photographer, or someone who is concerned about color reproduction, the mini-LED panels will impress you. RAM and Storage Your MacBook’s memory and storage specifications describe its performance after the processor you select. When it comes to processors, you would want to buy the best option that can give you the highest performance within your budget. M1 MacBook base models come with 8 GB memory and 256 GB storage, appropriate for users who don’t require working with intensive apps. Depending on the budget, you can opt for 16 GB RAM if you’re a video editor, developer, animator, or filmmaker. New or Used Most users spend considerable amounts of time thinking about whether they should buy a new Mac or get a used one. However, the decision should be pretty simple. If your budget allows you to buy a new MacBook, avoid buying a used laptop. Now only a new MacBook is less prone to security issues, but it gives you a one-year warranty that covers most hardware and software-related issues. AppleCare+ Warranty gives you peace of mind that you won’t spend anything out of your pocket if any problem pops up. Apple M4 Max Chip: Apple’s Plan for Better Graphics And AI

Apple M4 Max rumors
Apple M4 Max
With the expected release of the Mac M4 Max CPU, Apple is expected to meet high expectations once again, as its chip designs have led the computer sector. Following the success of the M1, M2, and M3 processors, it is projected to boost performance with a quantum leap in computing power and power efficiency. This article discusses the Mac Max M4 chip’s release date, key specs, leaked features, and price.
M4 Max release date
Though industry speculations indicate the M4 Max chip could come in the second half of 2024, Apple has not officially confirmed a release date. Along with updated MacBook Pro models or other high-performance Macs, Apple has traditionally announced new chipsets during their fall hardware launches. In October or November of 2024, the M4 Max might make its debut in tandem with the release of new MacBook Pro models if the current trend holds true.
Mac M4 Max Important Features
Improving Output
Recent advances in Apple’s 3-nanometer (nm) manufacturing technology could boost M4 Max CPU and GPU performance over the M3 Max. Video editing, 3D rendering, and AI processing may benefit from additional CPU and GPU cores for multi-threaded performance.
Enhanced Production
With less heat and power consumption without compromising performance, it is expected to further increase power efficiency. Professionals that depend on extended battery life while performing taxing work while on the go should take note of this.
The Architecture of Unified Memory
It is anticipated to enhance Apple’s Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) even more. Speedier and more effective processing is achieved using UMA, which enables the CPU, GPU, and other components to share a memory pool. A whopping 128GB of unified memory might be made available by the M4 Max, offering enormous bandwidth for memory-intensive apps like machine learning and video editing.
Highly Developed Graphics
Anticipated is a better GPU possibly with 48 GPU cores for the M4 Max, which will make it perfect for applications that require advanced graphics. Apple’s internal graphics performance could be surpassed by the M4 Max, whether it is used for gaming, 3D modeling, or high-definition video editing.
Estimates of Price
Starting at approximately $3,499 is the 14-inch MacBook Pro (M4 Max).
Beginning at about $3,999 is the MacBook Pro 16-inch (M4 Max).
RAM and storage choices may cause these costs to change; fully loaded machines may cost more than $5,000.
What Kind of Devices to Expect
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, as well as the most expensive Mac Studio configurations and, should Apple decide to bring back the iMac Pro, the top-of-the-line models of the MacBook Pro portfolio, are anticipated to run on the M4 Max CPU. For customers who require tremendous processing capacity for jobs like video editing, 3D rendering, and machine learning, the M4 Max is probably going to be the preferred processor for creative professionals.
M4 Max chip
Market Competition for Chips
AMD’s potent Ryzen chips and Intel’s most recent Alder Lake and Meteor Lake processors will compete with Apple’s silicon when it enters a market that is becoming more and more controlled by it. But Apple’s competitive edge still lies in the way its software and hardware are tightly integrated, guaranteeing that Macs with this processors will continue to top performance lists among developers and creative people.
To sum up
It is ready to push the limits of what Apple silicon is capable of, providing consumers with increased efficiency, better performance, and enhanced AI capabilities. Based on Apple’s past performance with its M-series CPUs, the M4 Max is expected to be a powerful tool for professionals that need the best possible performance from their Mac computers, even though the release date, features, and price are still unknown.

Apple to Start Producing Its Headset in Large Quantities in March.
It has been rumoured that Apple intends to begin mass manufacturing of its AR (augmented reality) and MR (mixed reality) headsets in March of 2019.
Media claims that Apple is “pushing ahead on development” of its MR headset, with Pegatron serving as the company’s only partner in terms of final assembly. The headset is expected to go into mass production in March 2023 and be introduced the following year.
It is speculated that the tech giant’s first headgear would be available to just a select group of business clients due to its prohibitively high initial price point and restricted supply.

According to the news sources, the tech giant’s manufacturing partners are willing to work with the corporation on the project despite the headset’s low profitability to showcase their technological prowess and position themselves for future AR and VR (augmented reality) gadgets.
Back in June, word got out that the firm was considering a January 2019 delivery date for its AR-MR headgear. Expert Ming-Chi Kuo said,
A Taiwanese news site, claims its sources “hinted” that Pegatron, also located in Taiwan, would be Apple’s sole assembly manufacturer, with manufacturing ramping up “by the end of the first quarter of 2023.”
According to Tech industry sources, the primary market for this device will be “commercial markets,” and “rough estimations” place the 2023 manufacturing run at roughly 750,000 units. Previous reports said the device will cost between $2,000 and $3,000.
A business with ties to Apple filed to trademark “Reality One”, “Reality Pro” and “Reality CPU” in August, raising the possibility that Apple may use its name for the headgear and its accompanying processor.
RealityOS was trademarked by Shell business with ties to Apple earlier this year, and the term has since appeared in App Store upload logs and Apple source code. Bloomberg claims that Apple is developing a reality (ROS) client for FaceTime that will include features such as face tracking to power Memoji avatars, a VR version of Maps, spatial versions of Notes and Calendar, the ability to view Mac’s display in a headset, and augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) tools for developers.
The Information reports that it will be powered by the same M2 chip found in the newest MacBooks and will include hand tracking, eye tracking, face tracking, leg tracking, and iris scanning for logins and payments, while supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims it will weigh noticeably less than current VR headsets and feature high-resolution OLED microdisplays.
So far, the rumours have indicated that Apple’s device would have better specs than Quest Pro, including a higher resolution display, faster CPU, more features, and a thinner body, but at a higher price. For a release before WWDC 2023, Kuo believes Apple will have a media event in January, ship developer kits two to four weeks later, and begin taking pre-orders in the second quarter of 2023. Annually in June, Apple has its annual software conference known as WWDC.
