The Six of Coins and more artworks will be exhibited at the Hack the Promise Festival in Basel this weekend (27.-29.9., admission free!)

The Group Exhibition ROW:ESSE – Gender Diversity in Digital Arts presents the work of six demosceners (Flopine, Aldroid, RacoonViolet, Lucid, Luisa and yours truly). Special thanks go to the organizers: Shana & Psykon.

The top two little pieces are from my "Beautiful Accidents" collection. They were created by wiping my palette knife as I worked for years and years. They are roadmaps of my history, and you are encouraged to touch them. They are on exhibit this weekend with OMSA at Art Miami for Miami Art Week and Art Basel.

ALL CLASSES - MUSEUM ASSIGNMENT AND ART WEEK - 11/25/24

All classes will be required to attend a museum or an art gallery starting this Wednesday (11/2/24) through Art week of next week.

Keep in mind that next week the events are going to be busy and with a lot of traffic in the city.

It is advisable that you attend either this Weds and /or Saturday or Sunday.

Museum/ Art Basel week inspired art work.

You will be required to create a museum or gallery inspired artwork.

During Art week and already starting this weekend, there will be many events throughout the city .

My classes always participate in this experience as it is a unique event that only happens here in Miami.  

I encourage students to attend in person any of the following collections below. 

Most of them are free (specially during this week) but I encourage you to find out about any fees on their websites.

The list of locations to visit this week is noted below:

Starting Art week here are more options;

ICA is located in Midtown (41st and N. Miami Ave.)

Moca is in North Miami.

Lowe is located at University of Miami.

If you are attending during Art week:

Rubell and El Espacio are near each other can be visited at the same time.

Perez is in downtown Miami near Wolfson Campus.

I encourage students to attend events in person.

All classes will need to attend during this weekend and or next week during Art week.

All these different venues show students what the Art market is like. 

You will have an opportunity also to see amazing works of art.

As you visit the venues take a photo of yourself at the location you visit with your favorite artworks. 

( If you are doing the virtual one you take a photo of yourself with the laptop)

Include those photos with the artworks you create and an artist statement on the due date. 

For the artist statement make sure you talk about your experience visiting any of these Art venues.

Artist Statement

Write a few paragraphs for your Tumbler post addressing the following questions. This is a college level writing assignment.

1) How did you enjoy participating in this activity?

2) What did you like best? 

3) If you attended a gallery and a museum which venue did you enjoy best and why? 

4) Which was your favorite location and why? 

5) How did you approach creating your artwork(s)?

You need to plan to attend for the equivalent time of one or two classes. That means you will spend from 2 to 3 hrs inside the space.

ALL students will post photos of themselves at the venue they visit and share those photos via their threads account with hashtag noted above.

2D ONLY - this class will submit their museum paintings on the same day you post your curated portfolio 12/9/24.

This class will create THREE abstract composition on Bristol paper measuring (8 x 10) based on work from the collection listed above.

ALL OTHER CLASSES WILL BRING THE ASSIGNMENT TO CLASS FOR FINAL CRITIQUE

Drawing Class

Create a response artwork inspired by your visit .

You can work on Bristol paper cut it to 16 x 20 size.

Painting Class

Create ONE painting inspired by your visit any size between 9x 12 or 16 x 20.

Figure Drawing -

One of your final drawings will be inspired by your visit to these venues. I will talk more about it during class tomorrow.

FINAL NOTE

All Classes will receive a class grade for this assignment that will be added to your overall score at the end of the semester.

Except for the 2D class, All museum work needs to be brought to respective classes by day of Final Critique.

I js saw ur thing talking abt American cities and u called miami cringe and I have been going to miami every summer since I was like 3 cos we brought a property there (i like in Manchester btw) and it wasn't always cringe and rlly its only cringy in like the hot spots where the alix earl wannabes go and like the clubby area everything else is quite normal but imh ever since alix earl becme popular miami has gone to shit cos the fan girls have no respect for the ppl living there 😒

Yeah no obviously the city as a whole can’t be cringe. I was specifically talking about the “art Basel weekend partying in double denim” set of people.

Also, I partake in things I find cringe on occasion. That culture and lifestyle can be a lot of fun. It’s just post party weekend you’re like “oh that was kitschy”.

Is it only since Alix Earle? Because I distinctly remember in line 2018/2019 it had that vibe as well. Maybe not as much.

But yeah I didn’t mean the entire place, I meant that particular subculture, which I guess is a relatively small part of the city

Painting Class - Final Assignment 11/25/2024

The Final Assignment for the painting class is to create an Allegorical Self Portrait Diptych inspired by current events and the world we are living in today and inspired as well from your museum and or Art fair visits.

It will be up to the student to depict this world.

You will need to use two canvasses for this assignment.

You can use any size format from 10 x 12 to 16 x 20.

It is up to you if you want symmetrical sizes or if you want to use uneven, one big and one small.

You can opt to tell a story through objects we collect or discard.

You can opt to depict those feelings of societal disruption and reactionary to the current world we are living in today.

You can express yourself through magical realism or abstraction.  

As an artist you will decide the manner and style to use in order to tell a story that expresses the world we are living today.

In hindsight , your Diptych will become a record or time capsule of 2024.

First, start doing research as to how a diptych works in contemporary art.

Traditionally, Diptychs and Triptychs were often a  vehicle for expressing religious ideas and concepts. 

In modern times it has been used as a way to express secondary meanings. 

So explore how you will use this style to convey your message .

This assignment is due on December 5 th , 2024 by 5pm.

Make sure you show progress photos of your project starting with some sketched ideas this weekend along with progress made each day. 

In addition to the paintings you will add an artist statement with your finished pieces.

A Diptych is NOT a story , or one image cut in to two parts.

 It is actually two stories that when they come together create a third narrative. 

This weekend you are engaged in research , buying materials and sketching ideas. 

Project must begin on Monday after class.

This class will have a virtual meet next Monday along with a class critique to discuss this assignment and critique works done up to now. 

The following works should be completed by this time: 

1) Homage to artist 

2) Monochromatic Still Life  

3) Three Desserts inspired by Wayne Thiebaud 

4) Self Portrait -Allegorical- Diptych

5) Museum Assignment (Art Basel Week)

This assignment will have a due date of Sunday 12/08/2024 by 5 pm . Students will have an in person and an in person critique in class on Monday 12/09/24 .

You will post work and artist statement on your portfolio blog.
