Publisher: Mojang AB / Xbox Game Studios / Sony Interactive Entertainment America / Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Genre: Action-Adventure Theme: Fantasy Franchises: Minecraft Also known as: Minecraft Xbox One Edition / Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition / Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition Type: Crossover
Summary:
Minecraft is an open world, first-person, survival sandbox game, developed and published by Mojang. It was originally released in a pre-alpha state via the TIGSource forums on May 17, 2009, and was later hosted online for supported browsers before receiving a standalone release for PC, Mac, and Linux on June 30, 2010. The game would officially exit its Beta version on November 18, 2011, although major updates continue to be released. Since August 2011, a number of ports of the game have released for consoles and mobile devices.
Presented with a unique low-resolution "voxel" aesthetic (where everything is shaped using cubes), the game allows players to interact with a variety of different "blocks" in a procedurally-generated world. Along with both resource mining/gathering and item crafting (hence the game name), the game features exploration (with multiple biomes and locations), combat, and construction. In addition to the standard "Survival" mode, the game features a "Creative" mode that allows players to design environments with an unlimited amount of blocks at their disposal and no survival elements. The game supports online multiplayer and later supported numerous content packs (including new world/block textures and player skins, many of which are cross-promotions with other games and franchises).
Originally created by indie developer Markus "Notch" Persson (whose roles were later taken over by fellow indie developer Jens "Jeb" Bergensten), Minecraft was ported to numerous smartphones (originally known as Minecraft: Pocket Edition) and consoles (originally known as Minecraft: Console Edition, with the "Console" in the name being replaced by the console's name). On September 20, 2017, the game received a major "Better Together" update that merges the smartphone version with some console versions (including Windows 10, Xbox One, and later Nintendo Switch) together for a single multi-platform version (known as Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, with the original computer versions renamed to Minecraft: Java Edition) with all features accessible (including cross-platform multiplayer). Alternate editions include a multi-platform version for use in classroom settings (Minecraft: Education Edition), a cut-down version for small RaspberryPi microcomputers (Minecraft: Pi Edition), and a multi-platform version for use in China (Minecraft China).
The game has received a number of spin-offs, including the 2015 adventure game Minecraft: Story Mode (and its 2017 sequel), the 2020 dungeon crawler Minecraft: Dungeons, and the augmented-reality mobile game Minecraft Earth. As well, Minecraft's procedurally-generated sandbox elements would inspire many other games, in both 2D (such as Terraria and Starbound) and 3D (such as Dragon Quest Builders and LEGO Worlds).

Arle Nadja
Pit: Is this a lost little kid? What's the little blob things she's throwing around? Palutena: Those are Puyo, and that little kid is Arle! She's a talented little mage who's best friends are Carbuncle, Ringo, and Amitie. She can even commune with the Puyo and understand their innermost thoughts. Viridi: So... What in the world is a Puyo? Pit: They look kinda edible, like a gummy. Viridi: I wouldn't eat that. Palutena: Edibility of the Puyos aside, you should be focusing on Arle. Even though she's a talented mage, she can even more powerful with her Diacute spell! That boosts the power and range of her other spells, and even increases the amount of Puyos she can throw around! Pit: So she can make herself stronger mid-fight? Thanks for warning me! ...And what do the Puyos do? Palutena: I dunno. Viridi: HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW?!
Mr. AR
Pit: Woah! A cube! Palutena: That's Mr. AR. You might recognize him from when you were playing around with those little cards with your 3DS, Pit. Pit: Hm... Wait, I think I recognize him now! Hey, Mr. AR! It's been a while! Viridi: AR? Palutena: Augmented Reality. Imagine you hold up a camera to your bedroom, and you see something through the camera that isn't there in reality. Viridi: ...You are describing a ghost. Pit: Wait... Is Mr. AR... DEAD?! Palutena: He's not dead, Pit, but you'll want to watch out for when he turns purple. That's his Dark Flip move, and it'll change the properties of all his moves. He's a bit like two fighters packaged in one!

Week 9: ‌Digital Citizenship and Software Literacy: Instagram Filters
Hey guys, welcome back!
Hope you guys are having a great time.
So today, I’m going to talk about something that most of you can probably relate to, filters!
I believe most of you used Instagram’s filters before, right? But, have you ever think about how it works?
Instagram introduced the filters feature in 2017. Then, it allows users to create their own filters in 2019, using the tool, Spark AR (Miller and McIntyre, 2022). October 2019, Instagram banned filters that are related to plastic surgery but this policy was then overturned. Instagram allows effects that can change the size and the shape of a user's facial features.
The software literacy concept is about professional knowledge of understanding, applying, solving problems and critically evaluating to achieve specific learning and career goals (‌Khoo & Hight, 2017). We should understand how these filters shape our experience. Your phone's camera will first scan your face and create a 3D model. Next, effects will be added based on your selections and blended into a dynamic data cube. Finally, you will be able to view, share and record yourself in an AR filter (Eugeni, 2022).
Tumblr media
These filters can create positive and negative effects. It can help you to increase your confidence and be more satisfied with your body figure. Moreover, when users feel interested and satisfied using the filters, it will lead the users to engage more with the social media platforms. On the other hand, it also will cause unrealistic standards and make people often compare themselves to others (‌Kumar & Madhushree Nanda Agarwal, 2023). People will start comparing their natural appearance to those digitally enhanced versions of themselves or even others. Over time, this will cause low self esteem and lead to body disfactions too.
In conclusion, filters are more than an entertainment editing tool. It is important to understand how they work and how it influences our identity. Therefore, as a mindful digital citizen, we get to enjoy these features while still maintaining a healthy and realistic view of ourselves and others.
I will stop here for today. Comment your thoughts with me! 🥰

Augmentative Reality and Exploring Animal Habitat
Hey everyone. For this post I wanted to share my lesson plan I wrote about augmentative reality and how it can help children connect to nature. The purpose of this lesson is for students to explore different habitats on Merge Cube. They can collect data about the different animals they see there as well as the different shelters that are available and the type of food that is available for the animals. It is like going on a field trip around the world while never leaving the classroom. Who here remembers that show The Magic School Bus where Miss Frizzle takes the kids on so many different field trips. What I wouldn't give to be in that class. Every day would be an adventure. This lesson is very similar to the Magic School Bus and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Augmented Reality App Development Using ARKit
Tumblr media
Augmented Reality (AR) has transformed the way users interact with the digital world, blending virtual elements with the real environment. ARKit, Apple's powerful framework for AR development, provides developers with the tools they need to create immersive AR experiences on iOS devices. This post will guide you through the basics of ARKit, its features, and how to get started with AR app development.
What is ARKit?
ARKit is a framework developed by Apple that enables developers to create augmented reality applications for iOS. It uses advanced computer vision and device motion tracking to integrate virtual content into the real world seamlessly. ARKit is designed to work with iPhone and iPad devices, making it accessible to a wide range of users.
Key Features of ARKit
Motion Tracking: Tracks the device's position and orientation in 3D space.
Environmental Understanding: Detects flat surfaces, such as tables or floors, to place virtual objects accurately.
Light Estimation: Adjusts the lighting of virtual objects to match the real-world environment.
Face Tracking: Recognizes and tracks facial features, enabling immersive experiences like filters or animations.
AR Anchors: Allows you to place virtual objects in the real world and keep them in place as the user moves around.
Getting Started with ARKit
Set Up Your Development Environment:
Install Xcode, Apple's integrated development environment (IDE).
Create a new project and choose the "Augmented Reality App" template.
Choose a Programming Language: ARKit supports both Swift and Objective-C. Swift is recommended for new projects.
Familiarize Yourself with ARKit API: Explore the ARKit documentation to understand key classes like ARSession, ARConfiguration, and ARAnchor.
Basic Example: Creating a Simple AR App
This example shows how to create a simple AR app that places a virtual cube on a detected flat surface:import UIKit import ARKit class ViewController: UIViewController, ARSCNViewDelegate { @IBOutlet var sceneView: ARSCNView override func viewDidLoad() { super.viewDidLoad() sceneView.delegate = self sceneView.showsStatistics = true let tapGesture = UITapGestureRecognizer(target: self, action: #selector(didTapScreen)) sceneView.addGestureRecognizer(tapGesture) let configuration = ARWorldTrackingConfiguration() configuration.planeDetection = [.horizontal] sceneView.session.run(configuration) } @objc func didTapScreen(gesture: UITapGestureRecognizer) { let location = gesture.location(in: sceneView) let hitTestResults = sceneView.hitTest(location, types: .existingPlaneUsingExtent) if let result = hitTestResults.first { let cube = SCNBox(width: 0.1, height: 0.1, length: 0.1, chamferRadius: 0) let material = SCNMaterial() material.diffuse.contents = UIColor.red cube.materials = [material] let cubeNode = SCNNode(geometry: cube) cubeNode.position = SCNVector3(result.worldTransform.columns.3.x, result.worldTransform.columns.3.y + 0.05, result.worldTransform.columns.3.z) sceneView.scene.rootNode.addChildNode(cubeNode) } } }
Best Practices for AR Development
Optimize 3D Models: Keep the polygon count low for better performance.
Test on Real Devices: Always test AR experiences on actual iOS devices for accurate performance.
Consider User Experience: Provide clear instructions for users on how to interact with the AR elements.
Leverage Lighting: Use realistic lighting to enhance the integration of virtual objects into the real world.
