Into each life some rain must fall, some days must be dark and dreary.

once Fredrich Nietzsche said "I notice that Autumn is more the season of the soul than of nature" while Fyodor Dostoevsky said "how gladly I watched the summer fade, the leaves turn yellow on the trees, and the grass dry out over the wide steppe! summer is gone at last! the winds of autumn howl and groan, the first snow falls in whirling flakes."

A Bleak & Dreary Winter
Leaves tremble with the touch of cold. Skies darken with the clouds of winter. The strong forceful grip I have on life slowly loosens with the impending doom of seasons changed. A creep of warmth from the familiarity is all I ask for in these trying times, but all I receive is the finality of bleakness as I kiss autumn goodbye.

After the keen still days of September, the October sun filled the world with mellow warmth...The maple tree in front of the doorstep burned like a gigantic red torch. The oaks along the roadway glowed yellow and bronze. The fields stretched like a carpet of jewels, emerald and topaz and garnet. Everywhere she walked the color shouted and sang around her...In October any wonderful unexpected thing might be possible.

A Leaf!
Original poem. Written October 2023.
A leaf! Golden brown; Falls in graceful ecstasy. Tumbling round, around, Over and over! A flashing flame in the setting sun; Joyful leaps and bounds it flies! Never hurrying to the ground, Too light and carefree to rush; It joins its playmates in the mound Of fellow leaves who danced before.
