they put in so much effort into setting up the elven gods, and then doing the "ah! but they were evil! it's all propaganda!" twist and then... they became basically irrelevant. the whole progression of them from war leaders to monarchs to idols means nothing - bc solas did everything that mattered in their era. june, the crafts evanuris, with his dwarven-style mosaics? actually, solas was crafting magic weapons, not him, and even outdid him and invented extra special cool eluvians! andruil, the blight-afflicted combat menace who terrorized everyone? no, actually solas was the one to create the blight too! elgar'nan, guy with a huge ego who built his reputation on defeating the titans and conquering the land? mm, no solas actually did that too!

they made solas both The Specialest Boy Of All Elves, who's pivotally responsible for everything happening in the setting, but also a poor little meow meow who gets bullied and called a lapdog... come on!! either he's the most valuable genius in arlathan that the others should all be trying to flatter, OR he's mythal's annoying flunky who keeps barging into meetings to complain while everyone else rolls their eyes. he cannot be both...

Yeah... I wasn't a fan of the Creators being irrevocably corrupt, but I expected some complexity. Not like gray morality to make the slavery and oppression more sympathetic, but motivations that are more interesting than power for the sake of power.

Evil can be narcissistic and one-dimensional. But I don't think painting all antagonists with that brush makes for a good story. :(

As far as Solas goes. Yeah. And on that note: putting the blame squarely on him for tranquilizing the Titans, stripping their hearts for Foci, and letting their corrupt dreams fester in the Void doesn't make sense to me.

oh it's so good, it's so so so good. i like every single thing about it.

firstly, when i found out carlos was joining williams i was like oh god, this absolute bombshell, poor alex. BUT IN FACT. there's carlos looking very cute but very tiny and honestly nerdier than he's ever been before, and there's alex who is so tall and so handsome and carlos just keeps trying to lay his gentle fingers on alex's person and nO ONE BLAMES HIM WE ALL GET IT.

okay but speaking of carlos being a nerd "everyone should be asked the same questions otherwise you introduce error" like which intro to research methods university class did he attend, this dedication to the scientific method. i feel like carlos's nerd potential was previously damped by charles' unrelenting himbo energy (which was also great, to be clear), and then we've got alex immediately bringing all the boys to the yard with his unrelenting negging "there's no way" the racing bulls scored so well, like, king, he's telling you the scores right now in fact.

also i'm fucking dying over the difference between oscar hinting lando and alex hinting carlos.

oscar, trying to hint 'ring of fire': "I think it's something to do with fire" he says, making the shape of a ring with his hand. lando: DRAGONS? harry potter? lord of the rings??????? oscar: something to do with fire. and a ring. lando: the equator.

meanwhile, in williams.

alex trying to prompt carlos to say ville: what's streets in italian? carlos: strata alex: what's it in spanish carlos: calle alex: what's it in french? carlos: rue alex: okay maybe i'm crazy

like i am fucking dying. carlos's pronunciation of rue was so good. everything about this video was so stealth hot and i haven't even started talking about alex saying he likes cats because you have to earn their love.

i just get this feeling that alex brings out more of carlos's full self? like obviously they're filming for marketing etc. we're not seeing into his soul, but i find it soooo interesting to see the carlos we get around alex. he's a dork, he's pedantic, he cares a lot about following the rules. at one point, carlos has gotten the answer and the host says he's wrong and they fact check it and actually carlos is right like mY FUCKING GOD.

anyway, those two yappers did horribly because of course they did, but we learned that alex drives with catchy songs stuck in his head and we all found it very sexy when carlos said rue and frankly i could not be more here for it.

The biggest of shout-outs to the Discworld fandom this past year. 2023 was one of the toughest years I've had to face and, as I faced down the barrel of 2024, I found Guards! Guards! And Sam Vimes and posted a couple of little pictures and then, before I knew it I was being welcomed in with open arms and encouraged and inspired in a way I haven't been in so long, and in all that I recovered something about myself that I'd lost. Thank you to the fandom, and the community that invited me in and the friends that I've made this year. You all mean so much to me and you've helped me in ways you could never know.

Pterry can be proud of the legacy he's left behind here.

While John and Paul were busy trying to decide whether they were going to kiss or kill each other every day in the studio, George falls onto Ringo's shoulders once again as he always did whenever he felt unseen. George didn't mind if he had to lose his position in the band, as long as he had Ringo. He had lost Ringo once from the fighting and ego and while it was only for a week or two, it was the most miserable week of his life. Maybe that was why he wanted Ringo to have a piece of him, just so he knew he would always be connected to him. Maybe it was selfishness on his part but who was anyone to blame a poor old Deer for not wanting to lose the one person that made him feel seen and heard, the one beast in the whole world that would view him as equal wherever and whenever?

In the midst of fighting, Ringo had shyly told George about the song he wrote while he was away and while George had never thought of Ringo as being particularly "spiritual", he was surprised at the song he presented to him. A childish tune in the ears of the other two freaks fighting over leadership, yet to George it was the most profound tune he had ever heard.

Ringo had told him about his little trip to the underwater city. Sea creatures, unlike land dwellers, had no qualms over predation, they believed it was just part of life to eat and be eaten. To many others it would just sound like Ringo the Lion just wanted a reason to eat people, but George knew better. His partner had always detested himself, as a Lion, as a Carnivore, hell he barely saw himself as being a Person sometimes. To hear Ringo speak about the sea folks in such a way made George's heart ache as his partner truly believed that the only way he could be happy about himself is if he were born in a different circumstances. There were no qualms underwater, and Ringo wouldn't mind being born as a shrimp because there was nothing wrong with it. It was just life. Simple as.

It was so... Ringo. To want to escape from the fighting, avoid the violence, to live together in harmony with his best friends, safe and sound as they happily sing and dance together just like how they dreamed they would. No Carnivores, no Herbivores, just them, under the sea, in an octopus's garden...

It's hard to rec authors that are like other authors because I truly believe every author has their own unique style that have quirks and styles that I enjoy equally.
