Gaming
Gaming has been a significant part of my life since I first picked up a controller back in 1995 playing in those arcades. It’s not just a hobby; it’s a passion that has grown and evolved over the years. From card games like Yu-Gi-Oh to board games like Monopoly and Chess, and all the way to video gaming on platforms like Xbox and Nintendo, my journey through the world of gaming has been diverse and exhilarating.
I have fond memories of sitting around the table with friends, playing card games. Yu-Gi-Oh was a particular favourite of mine, not just for the strategy involved but also for the vibrant stories and characters. There’s something incredibly satisfying about building a deck and outsmarting your opponent, whether it's through cunning tactics or sheer luck. Those moments taught me valuable lessons in strategy, critical thinking, and friendly competition.
Then there are board games—classics like Monopoly and Chess. Monopoly brings out a mix of excitement and rivalry as you try to amass wealth and properties, while Chess is a battle of wits and foresight. Each game offers a unique experience that brings people together, encouraging laughter, tension, and sometimes heated discussions. The social aspect of gaming is something I treasure, as it builds connections and memories with family and friends.
When it comes to video games, my passion really exploded. Xbox and Nintendo have been my gateways to fantastic worlds and immersive storytelling. Whether I’m exploring vast open worlds, solving intricate puzzles, or engaging in competitive multiplayer matches, the excitement of gaming never fades. Titles that have come and gone over the years have left their mark on me, influencing my interests and sparking my imagination.
One of the reasons I believe gaming has such a lasting impact is its ability to transport us to different realms. It encourages creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, while also providing an escape from reality. Each game presents new challenges and experiences that keep me coming back for more. I often think about how much I’ve learned through gaming—from strategic planning in complex scenarios to collaborating with friends online.
The phrase “GAMER4LIFE” resonates deeply with me. I know my journey in gaming is far from over. Whether I’m reliving nostalgic moments from the past or diving into new adventures, I embrace every opportunity to play. Gaming isn’t just a pastime; it’s a lifelong passion that continues to shape my experiences and friendships.
As I reflect on my journey, I’m excited about what the future holds. There are always new games to discover, stories to experience, and challenges to conquer. Here’s to many more years of gaming, connections, and adventures!

Unraveling India’s BRICS and BRI Conundrum
In a world where geopolitics often resembles a complex game of 3D chess, India finds itself pondering its next move on a board set by two ambitious projects – the expansion of BRICS and China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Imagine a chessboard, not with mere black and white squares, but a vibrant mosaic of global interests, strategic rivalries, and the occasional pawn aspiring to be a queen.…

SLEEPY HEAD.
PAIRINGS: CAITLYN X SLEEPY!FEM!READER X VI
AUTHOR'S NOTE: it's been a while since i last write fluff, so yeah here we go! reader is a chess girl in this post btw!
WARNING(S): lowercase.
navigation.
1. you’re a strategic genius with the soul of a nap-loving cat.
you’ll be in the middle of analyzing a high-stakes board game, murmuring, “if i move here, they’ll go there… checkmate in five,” and then—nothing. silence. caitlyn peeks in expecting a brilliant play and finds you fast asleep, head resting on the board, a black bishop pressed into your cheek.
2. vi absolutely lives for carrying you around.
it started as a joke. “sleepy again, huh?” she scooped you up bridal-style—and then just… never stopped. she refuses to let you walk home if you’re yawning even a little. “why walk when you’ve got a six-pack uber, babe?”
3. caitlyn is the quiet protector during your naps.
she adjusts pillows. places a warm cup of tea by your hand for when you wake. uses her jacket to shield your eyes from the sun. she reads quietly beside you, one hand protectively on your thigh, always alert for anything that might disturb her favorite sleepyhead.
4. you have a habit of sleep-mumbling chess moves.
at first, caitlyn thought you were dreaming of arguments. then she realized: you were calculating strategies in your sleep. vi thinks it’s hot. caitlyn thinks it’s worrying. you, when told? “oh. i guess i was… trying to beat myself.”
5. vi and caitlyn develop a habit of lowkey competing to be your human pillow.
one evening it’s vi’s biceps. the next it’s caitlyn’s lap. neither of them admits they’re keeping score… but they are. vi: “you fell asleep on me yesterday. just saying.” caitlyn, cool as ever: “yes, and you moved once. i remained still for four hours.”
6. you sleep in weird, curled-up positions like a little shrimp.
vi takes photos. caitlyn adjusts your limbs with surgical precision. both are obsessed. “they look like a cinnamon roll,” vi coos. “that snores,” caitlyn corrects gently. they both kiss your forehead at the same time.
7. despite your laziness, you always win at strategy.
vi: “they sleep through the whole mission brief and still outsmart the enemy.” caitlyn: “it’s infuriatingly hot.” you: yawns “i just… think better horizontal.”
8. caitlyn once built a custom travel chess set just for you.
it’s tiny, magnetic, and folds neatly into a pocket. you were so touched, you immediately fell asleep while thanking her. caitlyn just smiled, picked you up, and carried you to bed.
9. vi has a secret stash of photos of you napping in adorable places.
you curled up on a windowsill. you snoring with a book on your face. you spooning a giant stuffed kiramman mascot from caitlyn’s childhood. vi shares them with caitlyn when they’re both feeling soft—and horny, because sleepy you is apparently their shared weakness.
10. caitlyn talks to you when you’re asleep.
it started when she couldn’t sleep one night. she whispered things like, “i love the way your hair gets messy when you nap,” or “you terrify me with how brilliant you are.” you never respond—but once, you smiled in your sleep. caitlyn blushed for days.
11. you have a “sleepy voice” that kills both vi and caitlyn instantly.
it’s raspy, low, barely-there—like dragging velvet across skin. when you sleepily say, “five more minutes,” vi nearly drops her protein shake. caitlyn has to pretend she’s not flustered, even as she fans herself with a case file.
12. despite your sleepy nature, you always wake up when vi or caitlyn have nightmares.
even in your deepest nap, if vi’s breathing gets sharp or caitlyn tenses beside you, you stir and pull them close. no words. just soft, sleepy presence and your thumb rubbing slow circles on their spine.
13. you call caitlyn and vi “sun” and “storm” depending on nap placement.
if you’re dozing with caitlyn: “mmm… warm like sun…” with vi: “mm, stormy and safe…” the names stick. caitlyn melts every time. vi pretends not to love it but will correct people: “i’m her storm, get it right.”
14. sometimes you pretend to be asleep just to get cuddles.
vi catches on first, of course. “you’re fake-snoring again, huh?” she teases. you open one eye with zero shame: “and yet you’re still petting my hair, officer punchy.” vi grins. “guilty as charged.”
15. caitlyn and vi don’t mind that you’re always sleepy—because you’re always you when sleepy.
no masks. no pressure. just a soft, brilliant, drowsy girl who trusts them enough to fall asleep mid-sentence, knowing they’ll always be there to catch your head before it falls. they don’t just love you when you’re awake—they love you especially when you sleep.

Soft Spot
masterlist ! pairing Feyd-Rautha x reader
SUMMARY : you're going to marry Feyd-Rautha, but you didn't know he has a soft spot for you
GENRE: fluff, loveeee
The grand halls of the Harkonnen fortress echoed with the clinking of armor and the whispers of political intrigue as you, unaware of Feyd-Rautha's hidden feelings, prepared for the arranged marriage. The alliance between your house and House Harkonnen was to be solidified through this union, a union that held more secrets than you could fathom.
As you adorned yourself in the intricate wedding attire, your mind buzzed with the weight of responsibility. The marriage was a strategic move, a chess piece in the game of power. Little did you know, Feyd-Rautha harbored a soft spot for you that went beyond the calculated alliance.
As you walked down the aisle towards the ceremonial chamber, Feyd-Rautha stood at the altar, a stoic figure in his Harkonnen regalia. His piercing blue eyes, however, betrayed a subtle warmth when they met yours.
The ceremony commenced, the officiant reciting the traditional vows that bound you to Feyd-Rautha. Yet, amidst the formality, a flicker of genuine emotion appeared in Feyd-Rautha's eyes as he spoke, "I pledge my loyalty to this union, and to you, Y/N, my chosen partner in this intricate dance of politics and power."
His words carried a sincerity that resonated within you, and a realization started to dawn. Perhaps there was more to this marriage than just political maneuvering. The enigmatic Feyd-Rautha seemed to be unveiling a side of himself that few had witnessed.
As the ceremony continued, you exchanged vows, committing to the union with a sense of duty. Unbeknownst to you, Feyd-Rautha's words held a depth that transcended the political façade. "I promise to stand by you, Y/N, not just as a husband but as someone who sees beyond the political tapestry. You are more than a strategic alliance; you are the missing piece in my life."
The celebration that followed was lavish, a feast befitting the union of two powerful houses. Amidst the revelry, Feyd-Rautha found a moment to steal you away to a quieter chamber. The tension in the air was palpable as he looked into your eyes, his usually composed demeanor revealing vulnerability.
"Y/N," he began, his voice softer than usual, "there's something I need you to know. This marriage, yes, it's a political move, but for me, it's more than that. I've developed a deep admiration for you, one that goes beyond the expectations of our houses."
You were taken aback by the sincerity in his confession. Feyd-Rautha, the formidable figure known for his ruthlessness, was baring his soul to you. "I never expected to find solace in this arrangement, but in you, I see more than just an alliance. I see a partner, someone I want to stand beside in the battles that lie ahead."
His vulnerability resonated with you, and a spark of understanding kindled. "Feyd-Rautha, I may have entered into this marriage out of duty, but your sincerity has not gone unnoticed. Perhaps there is a chance for us to find common ground beyond the political landscape."
The revelation marked a turning point in your relationship. The walls that had separated you from Feyd-Rautha started to crumble, revealing a shared vulnerability that formed the basis of a connection neither of you had anticipated.
As the night unfolded, you found yourselves navigating the intricacies of this newfound understanding. Feyd-Rautha, known for his calculated moves, was now making room for emotions he hadn't explored before. The marriage, initially a pact sealed by duty, started to evolve into something more complex, a tapestry woven with threads of unexpected emotions and genuine connection.
And so, in the grand halls of House Harkonnen, a marriage born out of political strategy took an unforeseen turn, guided by the unspoken soft spot that Feyd-Rautha harbored for you. The game of power, it seemed, had made room for the unpredictable dance of the heart.

Solas, Checkmate, and the Pieces in Play
After reading @nadas-dirthalen's insightful post on Rook and the Inquisitor’s collaboration and the Inquisitor's role in Veilguard, a chess theme arose and I started thinking about the redeem ending through the lens of chess.
Excited by the idea, I reached out to my brother, an avid chess player. What began as a simple idea grew into the detailed breakdown you’ll find below.
This post explores how Rook, Inquisitor Lavellan, Morrigan, and Mythal align with certain chess pieces, followed by a move-by-move analysis of the redeem ending.
Let’s start with a breakdown of the pieces and who they align with.
*still works for a high approval friend Inquisitor, I operate in a Solas/Lavellan world state so this post reflects that.
The Rook
Movement: The rook moves any number of squares in a straight line, either horizontally (along ranks) or vertically (along files), but cannot jump over other pieces.
Role in Chess:
Dependable and straightforward, the rook commands control over open lines, dominating ranks and files.
It creates openings and fortifies other pieces, making it essential for both attacking and endgame strategies.
It can play a sacrificial role, achieving a greater strategic goal.
Rooks work best when paired with other pieces, representing strength, support, and reliability.
Rook as...well, obviously the Rook
The rook often doesn’t come into play until the board is developed. In this case, Inquisition and Trespasser set the stage (board), and Veilguard introduces Rook, continuing the play.
Just as a rook defends key positions, Rook’s role is also about protecting Northern Thedas.
A rook’s ability to shift the board’s dynamics (disrupt the board) mirrors Rook’s impact on the narrative. Rook’s improvisational nature gives them an edge in the "endgame" of Solas’s failed ritual, where their unpredictable choices lead to outcomes that even Solas cannot fully anticipate.
Rook’s role often involves finding clear paths forward, whether through solving problems, bridging gaps between characters, or making decisive moves.
By giving the dagger back to Solas, Rook takes a calculated risk, akin to a rook sacrificing its position for the greater strategy, relying on others (Lavellan and Mythal) to achieve the ultimate checkmate.
The Queen
Movement: The queen is the most versatile and powerful piece, moving any number of squares in any direction - horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Role in Chess:
Often described as combining the powers of the rook and the bishop. We know the power of a rook, the bishop adds foresight and planning.
As the most powerful piece, the queen is both an ideal attacker and a prime target for the opponent.
The queen symbolizes power, flexibility, and dominance, capable of commanding the board and turning the tide of the game.
It works best in coordination with other pieces, setting them up for decisive moves or amplifying their impact.
Lavellan as the Queen
The Inquisition is the reason Varric and Rook are searching for Solas - fulfilling the bishop-like, foresight aspect of the queen by setting events in motion.
Her ability to adapt to challenges and situations mirrors the queen’s versatility and range on the board, switching between political negotiation (mediates conflicts between Ferelden and Orlais) battlefield commands (makes decisions that impact the Mage-Templar divide/Grey Wardens), and personal connection.
In Veilguard, Lavellan’s entrance during the climax is akin to a queen stepping onto the board at a critical moment.
Like the queen’s ability to dominate the board, Lavellan commands respect across Thedas. While Rook handles the immediate aftermath of Solas’s failed ritual, Lavellan works to unify Southern Thedas.
Lavellan doesn’t act in isolation. Her actions amplify the contributions of others, much like a queen coordinating with rooks, knights, and pawns to ensure victory.
The Knight
Movement: The knight is unique in its L-shaped movement: two squares in one direction (horizontal or vertical) and then one square perpendicular, or vice versa. It can leap over other pieces, making it uniquely versatile.
Role in Chess:
The knight’s unusual movement pattern and ability to bypass obstacles make it a disruptive force on the board - agile and daring.
The knight is highly valued for creating tactical threats, such as forks, where it simultaneously attacks multiple pieces.
Knights excel in closed positions, navigating through crowded boards and exploiting opportunities others cannot.
The knight thrives on creating unexpected moves, catching opponents off-guard and changing the dynamics of the game.
Morrigan as the Knight
Morrigan isn’t the most direct force in the narrative, but her interventions are pivotal. She influences the outcome of the “game” not through brute force but through careful planning, cunning, and her unique connection to Mythal.
Just as knights excel in crowded, complex positions, Morrigan thrives in morally and politically intricate situations.
Morrigan’s role across the series is marked by surprise and cunning. Whether it’s her sudden involvement in the Orlesian court, or her reappearance in Veilguard as Mythal’s vessel, Morrigan strikes from unexpected angles.
Her ability to affect events from the shadows mirrors the knight’s tendency to influence the board indirectly.
Morrigan’s entrance during the climax, arriving as a raven carrying Mythal’s essence, is a perfect example of the knight’s ability to deliver unexpected, game-changing moves.
The King
Movement: The king moves one square in any direction - horizontally, vertically, or diagonally - making it the least mobile major piece on the board.
Role in Chess:
The king is the most important piece, representing authority, strategy, and survival. The game revolves around its safety.
Its presence shapes the actions of every other piece on the board, influencing both offensive and defensive strategies.
Though its movements are limited, the king’s survival is paramount.
Mythal as the King
She was one of the ruling elite - Mythal was the stabilizing force that maintained balance within the pantheon, much like the king anchors the chessboard.
Her actions and decisions shaped the Evanuris’ dynamics, the fall of Elvhenan, and Solas’s rebellion. Even after her death, her legacy dictated the course of events, paralleling the king’s ability to influence the board.
Even in her absence, Mythal’s memory and influence continued to shape the dynamics of the board, much like how the king’s position shapes the strategy of all other pieces.
Mythal’s intervention through Morrigan reflects the king’s transformation in the endgame. She takes an active role by addressing Solas, acknowledging their shared responsibility, and releasing him from her service.
Now to the game:
Rook moves
The dependable and improvisational Rook makes their move, stepping in to block Solas's plan. By grabbing the dagger, Rook halts Solas's immediate action, much like a rook defending against a check.
Rook returns the dagger to Solas. Rook is willing to sacrifice themself for a greater strategy. This sets the stage. it doesn’t deliver the final blow but holds the position, allowing other pieces to make their moves.
Queen moves
Emerging from the shadows, Lavellan moves decisively into play, changing the board. Her sudden appearance is akin to a queen making a powerful move that forces the opponent to rethink their strategy.
Lavellan’s words, her appearance, is an emotional strike to Solas. The queen tries cutting through his defense.
Lavellan’s offer of forgiveness is a bold and risky move, she is positioning herself and the board. She appeals to Solas’s emotions, destabilizing his certainty and forcing him to confront his guilt.
Knight moves
Morrigan, carrying Mythal’s essence, enters dramatically, much like the knight leaping into action. She literally flies in (jumps over) the other pieces to introduce a new unpredictable move.
Morrigan’s revelation that she carries Mythal’s essence shocks Solas, continuing to disrupt his focus.
Morrigan’s role as a vessel bridges the mortal and divine, much like the knight’s ability to navigate both offense and defense.
King moves
Mythal’s essence, channeled through Morrigan, becomes a pivotal piece on the board. Her presence forces Solas to confront his deepest regrets and failures.
Mythal’s words, “I release you from my service,” remove the foundation of Solas’s guilt, representing the king’s passive yet decisive role in resolving the game.
Mythal’s acknowledgment of their shared actions is akin to a king in the endgame supporting pawns or pieces, ensuring the board is balanced.
Checkmate
Solas bends under the weight, ultimately choosing to bind himself to the Veil instead of destroying it. This act is his capitulation, the equivalent of being unable to move and conceding the game.
What Makes This Checkmate?
Every option is countered. Solas’s logical (Rook), emotional (Lavellan), and spiritual (Mythal) defenses are attacked simultaneously, there is no move forward.
No Justification Left:
Rook forces Solas to consider whether his mission is for the greater good or a personal crusade. At the same time, Lavellan forces him to confront the people he has hurt, including herself. By offering forgiveness Lavellan removes one of Solas’s psychological defenses: the idea that he is irredeemable.
Finally, Solas’s primary justification for tearing down the Veil - honoring Mythal and correcting his perceived wrongs - collapses when Mythal accepts responsibility for their shared actions. Mythal’s absolution leaves him nothing to cling to, with Rook and Lavellan having already disarmed his other justifications.
Solas’s decision to bind himself to the Veil signifies his surrender. The checkmate in this scenario isn’t about defeating Solas but stopping him from tearing down the Veil. It’s a victory of reason, emotion, and forgiveness over self-destruction.
How This Post Came Together
I don’t play chess - but my brother does. He’s loved chess since he was a kid, and as a fellow gamer, he was more than happy to help when I asked him to combine his love of chess with Dragon Age. It was the perfect mix of his two favorite things. He’s also played Veilguard (his Inquisitor was friends with Solas in Inquisition), so he was already familiar with the story and characters.
I peppered him with questions: “What does each piece do? What does each piece represent?” "How would you analyze this frame in this scene through chess?" We watched the Veilguard ending multiple times, analyzing each character’s role and how it could align with chess.
After countless back-and-forths, drafting, revising, and refining, this post finally came together.
Thank you Teddy!

checkmate - s. reid
summary -> it’s impossible to beat Spencer at chess | spencer reid x reader
wc -> 1k
WARNINGS: teeth rotting sweet, a tad inappropriate, Spencer being totally adorable.
masterlist | main masterlist | requests
the jet was always a place of solace after a grueling case. some agents unwound with a book, others caught up on sleep, and morgan preferred playful banter. but you? you had a different kind of post-case ritual—one that involved a gorgeous genius and an old wooden chessboard.
you weren’t quite sure when it started, but at some point, you and spencer had developed an unspoken tradition of playing chess on the plane. it had begun as a way to pass time, but over the months, it had become something more. something personal.
and frustrating. because no matter how hard you tried, how many strategies you memorized, or how many times you attempted to outmaneuver him, you never won. ever. tonight was no different.
the team had just wrapped up a case in florida, a long and exhausting one that had taken its toll on everyone. you were relieved to be heading home. as soon as the jet leveled off in the sky, you found yourself setting up the chessboard on the small table between you and spencer. his eyes lit up in that boyish way they always did when he was presented with an playful challenge. “are you sure you want to do this again?” he teased, his fingers already shuffling the pieces into place. you crossed your arms and gave him a defiant smirk, “one of these days, i’m going to win.”
spencer chuckled, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose with a playful smirk, “statistically speaking, the probability of that happening is significantly low you know because you’re playing against the best. but I admire your persistence.”you rolled your eyes, “yeah, yeah, dr.genius. just make your move.”
the game began as it always did—spencer playing with an effortless grace, his long fingers gliding over the pieces as if they were an extension of himself. you, on the other hand, were meticulous, planning each move with intense concentration.
and yet, twenty minutes later, you found yourself in the same predicament as always. check. you groaned, letting your head fall against the seat, “you’re impossible.” spencer grinned, “not impossible. just highly skilled.”
“you could at least pretend to struggle,” you huffed, moving your king out of danger. “i could,” he admitted, “but then it wouldn’t be a challenge.” you shot him a playful glare, “you are such a nerd.” he didn’t even pretend to be insulted, “i take that as a compliment.”
as the game continued, spencer—being spencer—couldn’t resist peppering the conversation with his signature fun facts. “you know, chess dates back to the 6th century, originating from an indian game called chaturanga,” he mused as he captured your knight. you frowned at the board, “yeah? well, did you know I’m about to throw this chess piece at your face?”
he chuckled, “that would be highly unprofessional.”
“it’d be satisfying, though,” you grumbled.
spencer tapped his fingers against the table, observing you with an almost amused expression. “you know,” he started, “your playstyle is actually quite impressive. you’ve improved a lot since our first game.” you scoffed., “and yet, i still haven’t won.”
he tilted his head, considering something. then, he leaned forward slightly, lowering his voice, “would you like to know a secret?” your interest piqued, “what kind of secret?” spencer’s lips curled into a small smile, “i could let you win.” your jaw dropped, “excuse me?!”
“i mean, theoretically, of course,” he shrugged, “i could make a misstep—just one—enough for you to take advantage of.” you narrowed your eyes, “that’s cheating.” he chuckled, “not cheating. just… an act of kindness.”
you huffed, “i don’t want you to let me win, spencer. i want to win on my own.” his expression softened, and for a moment, he just watched you—his brown eyes filled with something you couldn’t quite place. then, slowly, he nodded, “that’s what I thought you’d say.”
you rolled your eyes, but there was no real annoyance behind it. just a warmth that settled in your chest. the game continued, and unsurprisingly, spence had you in checkmate within the next five moves.
“i hate you,” you muttered, though you were smiling. spencer smirked, “no, you don’t.” you sighed dramatically, flopping back against your seat, “maybe just a little.”
he chuckled, starting to reset the board, “how about best two out of three?” you sat up, eyeing him suspiciously, “you want to crush me again?”
“i wouldn’t say ‘crush.’ more like… gently outmaneuver.” you laughed, shaking your head, “fine. but this time, i want some pointers. if i’m going to beat you one day, i need to learn from the best.” spencer’s smile was soft, almost fond, “i’d be happy to teach you.”
and so, the next game began. but this time, instead of simply playing to win, spencer explained his thought process. he pointed out potential moves, explained the strategies behind them, and even showed you how to anticipate your opponent’s next step. it was, quite possibly, the most fun you’d ever had playing chess.
by the time the jet was preparing to land, you were still far from winning, but for the first time, you felt like you were getting closer. spencer stretched, letting out a small yawn, “you’re getting better.” you grinned, “think i’ll win next time?” he smirked, “i wouldn’t bet on it.”
you rolled your eyes, but before you could respond, he hesitated. then, leaning in slightly, he lowered his voice again, “but I wouldn’t mind if you kept trying.” your breath caught slightly. the way he was looking at you—soft, warm, affectionate—sent a pleasant shiver down your spine.
you swallowed, matching his gaze, “oh, I will keep trying.” he chuckled, but there was a certain tenderness in his expression. a silent promise that this—whatever this was—was something neither of you wanted to end anytime soon.
and for the first time, you realized something important. maybe beating spencer at chess wasn’t the real goal. maybe the best part was simply playing with him.
first post eek! hope yall enjoy and feel free to request whatever you like and i’ll try to get to it asap. p.s i also write for cod.

PRISM Launches as the World’s First Non-Profit Dedicated to Researching Sentient AI
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/prism-launches-as-the-worlds-first-non-profit-dedicated-to-researching-sentient-ai/
PRISM Launches as the World’s First Non-Profit Dedicated to Researching Sentient AI

As artificial intelligence continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, a new organization has emerged to address one of the most profound and complex questions of our time: Can machines become sentient?
The Partnership for Research Into Sentient Machines (PRISM) officially launched on March 17, 2025 as the world’s first non-profit organization dedicated to investigating and understanding AI consciousness. PRISM aims to foster global collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to studying sentient AI, ensuring its safe and ethical development.
What Are Sentient Machines?
The term sentient machines refers to AI systems that exhibit characteristics traditionally associated with human consciousness, including:
Self-awareness – The ability to perceive one’s own existence and state of being.
Emotional understanding – A capacity to recognize and potentially experience emotions.
Autonomous reasoning – The ability to make independent decisions beyond predefined programming.
While no AI today is definitively conscious, some researchers believe that advanced neural networks, neuromorphic computing, deep reinforcement learning (DRL), and large language models (LLMs) could lead to AI systems that at least simulate self-awareness. If such AI were to emerge, it would raise profound ethical, philosophical, and regulatory questions, which PRISM seeks to address.
Deep Reinforcement Learning, Large Language Models, and AI Consciousness
One of the most promising pathways toward developing more autonomous and potentially sentient AI is deep reinforcement learning (DRL). This branch of machine learning enables AI systems to make decisions by interacting with environments and learning from trial and error, much like how humans and animals learn through experience. DRL has already been instrumental in:
Mastering complex games – AI systems like AlphaGo and OpenAI Five use DRL to defeat human champions in strategy-based games.
Adaptive problem-solving – AI systems can develop solutions to dynamic, real-world problems, such as robotic control, self-driving cars, and financial trading.
Emergent behaviors – Through reinforcement learning, AI agents sometimes exhibit unexpected behaviors, hinting at rudimentary decision-making and adaptive reasoning.
PRISM is exploring how DRL could contribute to AI systems exhibiting the hallmarks of self-directed learning, abstract reasoning, and even goal-setting, which are all traits of human-like cognition. The challenge is ensuring that any advances in these areas are guided by ethical research and safety measures.
In parallel, large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI’s GPT, Google’s Gemini, and Meta’s LLaMA have shown remarkable progress in simulating human-like reasoning, responding coherently to complex prompts, and even exhibiting behaviors that some researchers argue resemble cognitive processes. LLMs work by processing vast amounts of data and generating context-aware responses, making them useful for:
Natural language understanding and communication – Enabling AI to interpret, analyze, and generate human-like text.
Pattern recognition and contextual learning – Identifying trends and adapting responses based on prior knowledge.
Creative and problem-solving capabilities – Producing original content, answering complex queries, and assisting in technical and creative tasks.
While LLMs are not truly conscious, they raise questions about the threshold between advanced pattern recognition and true cognitive awareness. PRISM is keen to examine how these models can contribute to research on machine consciousness, ethical AI, and the risks of developing AI systems that mimic sentience without true understanding.
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and AI Consciousness
The development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)—an AI system capable of performing any intellectual task a human can—could potentially lead to AI consciousness. Unlike narrow AI, which is designed for specific tasks such as playing chess or autonomous driving, AGI would exhibit generalized reasoning, problem-solving, and self-learning across multiple domains.
As AGI advances, it may develop an internal representation of its own existence, enabling it to adapt dynamically, reflect on its decision-making processes, and form a continuous sense of identity. If AGI reaches a point where it can autonomously modify its objectives, recognize its own cognitive limitations, and engage in self-improvement without human intervention, it could be a step toward machine consciousness. However, this possibility raises profound ethical, philosophical, and societal challenges, which PRISM is dedicated to addressing through responsible research and global collaboration.
PRISM’s Mission: Understanding AI Consciousness
PRISM was created to bridge the gap between technological advancement and responsible oversight.
PRISM is committed to fostering global collaboration on AI consciousness by bringing together experts from academia, industry, and government. The organization aims to coordinate research efforts to explore the potential for AI to achieve consciousness while ensuring that developments align with human values. By working with policymakers, PRISM seeks to establish ethical guidelines and frameworks that promote responsible AI research and development.
A critical aspect of PRISM’s mission is promoting safe and aligned AI development. The organization will advocate for AI technologies that prioritize human safety and societal well-being, ensuring that AI advancements do not lead to unintended consequences. By implementing safety standards and ethical oversight, PRISM strives to mitigate risks associated with AI consciousness research and development.
Additionally, PRISM is dedicated to educating and engaging the public about the potential risks and opportunities presented by conscious AI. The organization aims to provide transparent insights into AI consciousness research, making this information accessible to policymakers, businesses, and the general public. Through outreach initiatives and knowledge-sharing efforts, PRISM hopes to foster informed discussions about the future of AI and its implications for society
Backed by Leading AI Experts and Organizations
PRISM’s initial funding comes from Conscium, a commercial AI research lab dedicated to studying conscious AI. Conscium is at the forefront of neuromorphic computing, developing AI systems that mimic biological brains.
Leadership and Key Figures
PRISM is led by CEO Will Millership, a veteran in AI governance and policy. His past work includes leading the General AI Challenge, working with GoodAI, and helping shape Scotland’s National AI Strategy.
The organization’s Non-Executive Chair, Radhika Chadwick, brings extensive leadership experience from her roles at McKinsey and EY, where she led global AI and data initiatives in government.
Additionally, PRISM’s founding partners include prominent AI figures such as:
Dr. Daniel Hulme – CEO & Co-Founder of Conscium, CEO of Satalia, and Chief AI Officer at WPP.
Calum Chace – AI researcher, keynote speaker, and best-selling author on AI and consciousness.
Ed Charvet – COO of Conscium, with extensive experience in commercial AI development.
PRISM’s First Major Initiative: The Open Letter on Conscious AI
To guide responsible research, PRISM has collaborated with Oxford University’s Patrick Butlin to establish five principles for organizations developing AI systems with the potential for consciousness. They are inviting researchers and industry leaders to sign an open letter supporting these principles.
The Road Ahead: Why PRISM Matters
With AI breakthroughs accelerating, the conversation about sentient AI is no longer science fiction—it is a real challenge that society must prepare for. If machines ever achieve self-awareness or human-like emotions, it could reshape industries, economies, and even our understanding of consciousness itself.
PRISM is stepping up at a critical moment to ensure that AI consciousness research is handled responsibly, balancing innovation with ethics, safety, and transparency.

König + Horangi Headcanons
Regrettably, the brainrot has taken hold of me properly, so this was always going to be an inevitable post
(This is also a chance for me to compile and work out my characterization of these two, as a sort of warm-up exercise for writing them).
All SFW! Trigger warning for mention of scars, alcohol, gambling, violence (military), you know Call of Duty typical stuff
All the headcanons for each are separate for each character, a few mentions of Horangi in König’s list but that’s it
That being said, here are my headcanons for König and Horangi 🙏
Horangi bites the inside of his cheek when he’s thinking really hard or having an internal emotional tug of war about something, he actually developed this habit because he used to instinctively press his tongue against the inside area of his cheek that had been scarred (if you’ve seen the popular design where he has a scar from about the corner of his lip up to his cheekbone, and yeah. I like that concept a lot)
Horangi used to drink and smoke heavily, as part of his gambling days. He dropped that habit when he joined the military, and to this day absolutely resents heavy alcohol of any kind, but doesn’t actively avoid milder alcohol as much as he does the stronger stuff, he just doesn’t see the appeal in it anymore
Speaking of which, Horangi sucks at gambling, in fact he’s so terrible at it it’s a wonder he stayed in the business so long. He actually wound up so far in debt because he kept telling himself “it’s not statistically possible that I can never win.” So he kept trying to prove he was capable of winning (he wasn’t.) Eventually, he did quit, escaping debt by fleeing normal civilian life in the process
Horangi hasn’t touched gambling since, he’s wary of even simple card games (glances judgmentally at uno). Even if he still gets that itch sometimes, he curbs it by playing games that don’t involve luck at all
By that I mean Horangi loves strategy games. A downright freak about them even, this way he’s not risking any money on card games that might be rigged… (Horangi chess menace, anyone..? Not promising that he won’t try to cheat in checkers) and he swears like a sailor whenever he loses
Any rush Horangi used to get from gambling is gone anyway, nothing can compare to the adrenaline spike from being on missions. In comparison, gambling feels like a watered down high and a desaturated painting, it wasn’t anything like the vivid colors of the battle field experience… and even that could get boring sometimes…
(That is not encouragement to throw yourself into combat 💧)
Horangi loves silver jewelry, especially rings. But never wears anything gold or with gems on it, he prefers the sheen of silver, and thicker jewelry too, heavy banded rings and he actually considers his dog tags as something of a fashion statement… there was a point in his life where he had his ears pierced, and only ever wore silver or black for those, however the piercings have since closed up as they would have been a hindrance in his military work
When Horangi was a kid, he wanted to be able to skateboard, the kind of kid who thought kick flips and riding rails down the stairs was the coolest thing, unfortunately he was never really all that good on wheels, and didn’t have the time to master the hobby
(He sure as hell can snowboard though. Don’t ask me; it came to me in a vision)
Horangi was actually planning to get full tattoo sleeves on his arms, but discovered that he was somewhat unnerved by the constant jabbing of the ink needle when he got his wrists and forearms done the first time around, since then he’s been a little wary about getting more. It’s not that his pain tolerance is low, or that he’s scared of the process, he’s just kind of annoyed by the way it’s done and the time it takes since it leaves him with nothing to really do while he waits with the incessant jabbing of the needle… yeah, he’s not a fan
Horangi has scars on his back (tiger scars!!!) from his youth, they’re not pretty or nice to look at, all ridged flesh and awkward lines, he couldn’t sleep on his back for weeks while they healed; and even after that there was phantom pain.
Because of these scars, Horangi dislikes having his back to anyone even more than the usual soldier. Not because he got the scars in that way, but simply because he’s subconsciously aware of them being there and he doesn’t like the idea of having them out in the open (even though he knows they can’t be seen when he’s dressed)
Horangi likes to doodle, no he’s not a good artist, he just likes to scribble on things, drawing in the dirt with a stick when he was a kid kind of thing, always carries a pen with him and doodles when he’s bored
Horangi is a great swimmer, like athlete level good at it. Do not try to race him, he will win
Is an avid language enjoyer, Horangi actually likes exploring different languages and how they work phonetically as well as alphabetically. His English is remarkably good, even with his thick accent
On that note, Horangi’s penmanship is… less than perfect. Maybe a small case of doctor’s handwriting if you know what I mean. He tends to slant his words a bit, and it looks a little like chicken scratch, but it’s charming in its own right
Horangi likes rock and rap, I think when he was a teen he would have really liked No Brain, especially the song “내 가죽잠바 My Leather Jacket” as well as western heavy metal, though he likes rap and hip hop too, anything fast paced or with a heavy beat (guilty pleasure listening might be lighter r&b) if you saw Gangnam style in his playlist, no you didn’t
If Horangi played an instrument it would be electric guitar, but only as an excuse to shred until the callouses on his fingers split and he had to wait for new ones to develop
Horangi is selfless to a fault, he likes to think he wouldn’t go through hell and back for just about anyone when he knows deep down he would in a heartbeat, he’s always cared deeply about others, he just struggles a little to express it, very much more of a subdued affection kind of guy, shown through little actions instead of straightforward declarations which are a rarity, but do happen
Horangi likes the military because it gave him purpose and direction. And best of all- an outlet. What else was he supposed to do with his somewhat short fuse and need to release pent up energy? Bashing up enemy forces seemed a good enough way as any
Horangi takes his coffee black, americano. (Shamelessly stole this headcanon from his voice actor…)
Bonus :

(His words not mine, do with this information what you will)
Now… König is somewhat of a difficulty for me to work through, he’s a bit of a silly bastard I can say that much. Still working on disemboweling him to understand how he works so his list might be a bit shorter, but I’ll try my damndest
König is clumsy, not in a “whoops I fell down the stairs silly me…” way but in a “where the hell did I leave my keys..?” kind of way, which is funny because he always struck me as someone who pays attention to detail while also having situational blindness, like “holy shit there was a car right there” even when you could ask him what the arrangement of crates were in a cargo shipment and he could tell you exactly without needing to think hard about it
König is absolutely incapable of keeping himself still, one of the reasons he was denied the position of a sniper… whether it be literally twiddling his thumbs, or bouncing his leg, he is always moving one part of his body at any given time
Two words, bad liar… König is a terrible liar even, not even consciously he just isn’t good at not giving an honest answer, especially if it’s to people he’s comfortable being around. Shifting eyes, clenched jaw, kicked puppy sort of demeanor if he’s actively trying to withhold the truth, he’s bad at covering it up unless he’s annoyed, then he can evade giving a straight answer but otherwise he can be read like an open book
In terms of social interaction, König is not some sort of inept stuttering dork, rather I would simply describe him as a little out of his element in mundane social settings. He’s a menace on the field, and he’s comfortable with that, when he isn’t occupied with something physically or mentally demanding however… he’s a tad socially awkward. But he’s still brazen and a little cocky, albeit easily annoyed or flustered (not blushing wreck flustered, just at a loss for words and maybe a few confused blinks if anything)
König is also competitive and a bit of a grump honestly, he takes things personally and tends to overthink, maybe a bit of a bad habit that involves twisting things in his mind until they’re warped from what they initially were, but yeah he’s gonna take things as a challenge or a jab at his abilities (inferiority complex coming back with a vengeance in the form of feeling like he needs to prove himself constantly)
That’s not to say König isn’t a “gentle giant” he does have a soft spot and isn’t prone to picking fights himself, but he’s also… bipolar for lack of a better word, he would definitely treat something with the most tenderness his large hands can allow, but then turn around and obliterate an entire unit with a blind sort of unhinged arrogance that doesn’t take kindly to being rivaled
König is like a barely domesticated guard dog with self worth issues that present themselves through mild narcissism and social insecurity. Again, he’s a madman, just listen to his voicelines, Horangi may look insane on the outside but he’s actually relatively stable, König on the other hand is like a carefully constructed bridge made of entirely weak points that are holding themselves together by faint pressure and the whole thing is covered in tape that mask wounds instead of bandaids
If König played an instrument it would be drums, he needs to be able to bash on things, I think he would get frustrated with something like guitar or bass
König is a bit demanding with things he wants, and likes to think he can get what he wants with relatively little struggle, not that he’s a spoiled brat by any means, just that he sees something and goes “I want that.” And isn’t afraid to say that he wants it, and that’s basically saying “I intend to get it” but he also does have manners, and isn’t exactly extroverted, but he has an obvious sort of intensity about him that really shines on the field, he likes a good fight
(Que “Finally some worthy adversaries!” line)
König knows he’s strong and is confident in his abilities, but despite knowing this he still doesn’t take praise well. Or compliments, he’s all sure of his abilities until someone points out he did a good job and suddenly he has no idea what to say, similarly if he thinks he can handle something and voices that, and someone replies “yeah you’re right, you’ve got this” he’d be like “???” because he’s not used to the positive reciprocation, he’s used to only having himself and the physical proof that he can do things and do them well, so when someone points it out he’s at a loss
König is more likely to let German slip into his speaking than Horangi is to let Korean slip into his, König’s English also isn’t as good as Horangi’s
König is a little possessive and can get defensive too. Stems from his childhood, being picked on a bit he learned to keep his stuff close to him and be careful who he shares with if at all, and is not trusting even if on the outside he appears relatively open despite his social awkwardness
However, König likes having instructions and knowing what exactly needs to be done, he’s organized and likes not always having to make a lot of complex decisions— the structure of the military gives him a way to keep himself occupied in this manner. And he likes feeling like he has a use, even if it’s not exactly what he wanted
(He’s still bitter about not being a sniper).
König’s handwriting is surprisingly nice, it’s neat and simple, but he doesn’t write paper and pencil often, in fact he usually records numbers and data if anything, and types everything else. He likes using digital tablets
König takes his coffee sweet, and doesn’t care about the temperature, he’ll drink coffee that started out warm and sat out long enough to get cold.
Rammstein fan? König is guilty. Also loves Slipknot and Korn. Orange Sector fan to the end too. His guilty pleasure is instrumental music. (Sometimes he and Horangi share their music with one another)
König wears his hair long (not super long, just a little unkempt and about jaw length), and he has stubble. He keeps his hair tied in a low bun for missions, on leave and for downtime he’ll tie the bun higher
König is shockingly loyal, like makes a conscious effort to be loyal to people, and is surprisingly thoughtful about little things that others wouldn’t really pay much mind too. It’s sort of a subconscious thing actually, he remembers a lot of insignificant stuff for no real reason, it just sticks
In König’s mind, he has a few jokes he came up with that he thinks are hilarious but has never had a chance to say them and is also a little doubtful other people would be as amused as him, so he keeps them to himself.
(Horangi might luck out one day)
Cough… and that’s all!! I’ll update this if I ever think of any more. But yeah, that’s all I got. Hope you enjoyed

He only wants to use his talents and sincerity to protect the deep friendship and unknown emotions. He is a touch of peace in the troubled times.
Zhao Jifu (Zhao Ziang's younger brother) Male, 18 years old. Grew up in a temple. Compared with his brother Zhao Ziang, who is heroic and valiant, Zhao Jifu embodies more calmness and strategic precision. He can even be said to be a two-faced person. He is humble and gentle on the surface, and is good at hiding his true intentions. But in fact, he is a scheming man and a master in the political arena. He has shown extraordinary adaptability in complex situations, and is good at making secret plans. He is an important force in promoting the family's hegemony. His temperament is restrained but his edge is hidden, showing a kind of hidden strong style. He is a wise man and counselor who cannot be ignored in troubled times.
Han Zaizhou (Teacher of Xiao Yunqian) Male, 60 years old. An important official in the court, he has a high wisdom in politics and worldly affairs. The core of the prince party, the veteran of two dynasties of the Southern Kingdom, calm and composed, and has a thorough understanding of power and politics. The previous emperor of the Southern Kingdom is old, and Han Zaizhou has to start planning for the next generation of the Southern Kingdom. Faced with prince Xiao Yunqian who has lost control in pursuit of power, Han Zaizhou has to persuade Xiao Yunze to participate in the fight for the throne in order to stabilize the court, because he feels affection for the younger generation of princes.

Kagami: (scoffing) “Man, this chess app is full of tryhards. Some guy just checkmated me in seven moves.”
Konata: (grinning) “Ah, yes. The dark souls of board games.”
Tsukasa: “Chess has lore?”
Miyuki: “Well, it does have a long and storied history, dating back to—”
Konata: (interrupting) “No, no, no. You don’t get it. Chess was originally an RPG, but the developers abandoned it.”
Kagami: (sighs, rubbing her temples) “Oh no. Here we go.”
Tsukasa: (blinking) “Wait, what? But... it’s a board game?”
Konata: (leaning forward dramatically) “Now it’s a board game. But think about it—why are there ‘kings’ and ‘queens’? Why do pawns ‘level up’ when they reach the other side? Why does a knight move in an L-shape, like it has a special movement skill?”
Miyuki: “That’s actually called an ‘equestrian move,’ reflecting cavalry tactics in medieval warfare.”
Konata: “Uh-huh. Or—and hear me out—it was a class-based strategy RPG, but the devs never finished balancing it. Look at how broken queens are. No way they playtested that.”
Kagami: (crossing arms) “That’s because it represents medieval power structures, not because it’s ‘broken.’”
Konata: “Oh yeah? Then why can’t kings do anything? He’s the ‘main character,’ right? Shouldn’t he at least have one special ability? No mobility, no attacks, literally just vibes.”
Tsukasa: (soft gasp) “He’s like a quest NPC...”
Konata: (nodding) “Exactly! Meanwhile, pawns are literally just cannon fodder. And they have permadeath, too. What kind of RPG doesn’t let you revive your party members?”
Miyuki: (adjusting glasses) “Some historical interpretations suggest—”
Konata: (ignoring her) “And let’s not forget the final boss. You’re not even supposed to kill the king, you just put him in ‘checkmate,’ which is basically the game’s version of a cutscene trigger. Like, ‘Congratulations! You trapped the king in an unskippable defeat animation!’”
Kagami: (annoyed) “That’s just how chess works! It’s a strategy game, not a stupid gacha RPG.”
Konata: (grinning) “Oh, but if it was a gacha game, you’d have to pay to unlock a second queen.”
Tsukasa: (shocked) “Oh no…!”
Miyuki: “If I may, there are variations of chess that—”
Konata: (cutting her off) “Nope! The devs just abandoned it. No DLC, no updates, just community patches for centuries. That’s why we have things like ‘Blitz Chess’ and ‘960 Chess.’ Those are just modded servers because the devs went radio silent after launch.”
Kagami: (pinching the bridge of her nose) “I hate that this actually makes some sense.”
Konata: (smug) “And that is why I refuse to play chess. I don’t support dead games.”
Kagami: “You played Tibia for, like, three years.”
Konata: (pointing) “That game still gets updates.”
Tsukasa: “So… if chess got an expansion, would you play it?”
Konata: “Maybe. But only if they nerf queens and buff kings.”
Miyuki: (thinking) “Perhaps we should consider Shogi instead?”
Kagami: “Not another one...”

TCG with Dottore but depending on how the match is going he'd either be really smug or a sore-loser
It doesn't matter which Segment and how old he is, each version of him gets a little too heated over the card game
Difference is that the younger ones would just grumble that the game was stupid anyway and leave it at that, while the older ones would not so subtly ask for a rematch but with a different game, such as chess (where he doesn't have to rely on how lucky his card draws are) to defend his ego
Omega is the outlier. If he loses he'll play it off as if he did it on purpose to leave the game quicker since he has work to do (he's internally upset)
Initially, Dottore and the segments really didn't care about TCG. In fact, most of them didn't even hear about it until you, very excitedly, introduced the card game to them. (You needed to use your team, consisting of Dottore segments of course, to destroy someone.) They say they don't care about silly games, but in reality, they secretly get a bit too interested for their own good. They believe that the rules are simple enough, skimming over the rules and characteristics of each card. Surely, the Dottores have got this in the bag! After all, each of them has broken Teyvat's laws, contributed new findings to the world, created Gods, threatened Gods, will end up burning a certain tree, and oh so much more - a card game could never leave them stumped!
Only that the longer the game goes on, the more inwardly distressed they get as you keep flaming their cards or they keep drawing useless ones. Your laughter doesn't help their state either. Alpha leaves immediately in a huff while your cackling follows him down the hall. Beta curses under his breath and takes his anger out dismantling a machine. Poor things are grumpy up for a while. Only for them to spend time thoroughly researching the game and developing tactics, inevitably waiting for you to invite them to a match. They are evil. They are smug with their win. Do not fall for their trap. But if you win again, they will descend into grumbling again.
The older segments being better at playing off their feelings, resign to their loss with a conceding sigh. Look on the bright side - you managed to beat the Il Dottore in something. If anything, they're rather proud of your intelligence - truly one of the reasons they love you so. Now why don't you show them your expertise in chess instead! You have something to teach them there too, won't you? (The segments say as he takes joy in how your head hangs in defeat.)
And you could never forget the reaction you got from your dearest Omega - the one who's always a few steps ahead, thinking of all possibilities, outcomes, and choices... being so confident in his skills and deck at first, legs languidly crossed... only to watch his smile twitch and fall, glowing eye blinking in thought as he tried to concoct a strategy to defeat you. Unfortunately, he does not realize you're playing an overpowered, unfair deck against a pure beginner despite how intelligent he is. You are cruel. You leave him speechless for a few moments as he shrugs, calm smile returning to his face as he asks you whether you've enjoyed your time with him. Note that if you try to play with him again, he'll guide the conversation elsewhere quickly.
(Also - they are very insistent on using your TCG character card in their teams. Even if the devs made your card trash they will somehow make you OP. Do not underestimate their minds.)
#smooches talks#dottore love notes <3#u wrote omega so cute im exploding BDEWFBEW. (he's internally upset) bro's huffing and crossing his arms fbefbifh#THEY'RE SO SILLY IM CRYING. them being petty enough to pull out chess is so funny i love this sm.
