Well folks, it's that time again. There's a new piece of media starting to take over my brain. Yet another 80's toyline-based cartoon, called The Inhumanoids!
The cartoon's pretty short (having only 13 episodes) but what it lacks in runtime, it absolutely makes up for in buck-wild story decisions due to the writers being given essentially free reign to come up with anything they wanted (as long as it could be put on TV)
Anyway, I drew the main bad guys (the titular Inhumanoids) Y'all are probably going to be seeing more of them in the future
#drawing#sketch#inhumanoids#tendril#d'compose#metlar#Gotta love the fact that this 80's toy franchise was partially inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft

So, I went antiquing with a friend today. And came home with one of my Grails, for a paltry $15.

A grail so grand, it doesn't fit in the photo setup.
Alright, goin' out back!

Behold, Tendril! A delightful Kaiju hailing from Hasbro's Inhumanoids in 1986, this plant-based hellspawn was unleashed by a corrupt industrialist, bent on releasing it's counterpart, the half-rotted zombie virus vector known as D'Compose, in order to free their master, Metlar, and enslave humanity or something. Oh, a half dozen humans with color-coded exo-suits saved the day and all (with the help of both tree monsters and rock people, no less!), but still, it was pretty grim stuff.

This beast, beating previous champ Krusher at 14.75", menaced humans in the 5" range, as I recall. A bit small on paper, but these guys had pretty bulky suits, so it works out, and it's certainly enough to menace any average action figure.

The back is entirely unpainted, but at least the sculpt keeps up. Said sculpt is competent enough, but apart from the feet, it doesn't convey "plant" so much as "amorphous mass".

Articulation is fairly minimal: the obvious swivels are about all you get, except for the bendy arms, and those don't hold a pose very well. Every figure in the line had a light-pipe feature, cleverly worked into the heroes' helmets. The various monsters mostly had it in their eyes, but Metlar and Tendril both bucked the trend with two glowing teeth. This is true to the animation, but very strange indeed. It does result in an unfortunate orange patch on the head, but I'm not sure even dual-injection could solve that problem. So it goes.
This is actually the second release, with blunted fangs to prevent chipping. Or for safety concerns, more likely.

Putting this Plant-thulhu on the cover of issue 1 didn't do much to endear the public, nor did the horrifying miniseries. Before its time? Poor market penetration? Whatever happened, I saw more of these at Kay Bee than regular retail. Mine was actually a garage sale find, back in the day. One broken fang, no tails. Loved it anyway. Good to have one again.
On a side note, it took me over half an hour to clean this. Someone clearly loved it enough to play with it in the mud, as they should.

Requested by Feyzer
The Decisive Battle: The Thunderous Lynx against the Hell Brigade
This...this was the exact moment, near inches from the capital of Finland that if it weren't for the bold and critical actions brought about by Finland's metal hero Fulynx...
...Helsinki would've become a scorched graveyard by this brigade of undead monsters and their two-legged living base...
This was a joy to draw from stage to stage, starting with the challenge of making my take on Feyzer's Fulynx, where not only I had to follow on the original design concept he had but also taking inspiration from, quite fittingly the same source Fulynx was inspired on: Battletech
Which brought me to one particular edition of that TRPG that I could draw inspiration from, the Japanese Edition Rule Book featuring Mech redesigns made by Studio Nue of SDF Macross fame!
Next up was coming up with a baddie Fulynx could blow up and coincidentally during that week I've been revisiting the underrated horror cartoon series Inhumanoids where I borrowed inspiration from the undead horror himself D'Compose.
And lastly, the background where I think I made my best sunset so far, plus the other details like the famous water tower of Helsinki and some bits of forest you can see below, I'm quite happy with how it came about in the end ^u^

188/?? Childhood TV Shows You Should Watch

Title: Inhumanoids
Episodes: 13
Run Time: 24 Minutes
Original Air Date: September 21 - December 14, 1986
[Idk why the synopsis is so long lol I usually copy them from wiki but man they really explained this one]
Synopsis:
The story begins with the discovery of a monstrous creature encased in an amber monolith buried in Big Sur National Park, which is recovered by Earth Corps, a government-funded geological sciences research team. The finding spurs Blackthorne Shore, a corrupt industrialist, to clandestinely uncover and release a second monster buried elsewhere—a giant vine-like creature called Tendril, who attacks the amber block's public unveiling in San Francisco to release the macabre colossus trapped within, D'Compose. They rampage through city streets before fleeing into the watery darkness of the bay. The Earth Corps member code-named Liquidator returns to Big Sur in search of further clues to the origin of these monsters, whereupon he discovers a race of sentient tree-beings, the Redwoods, who explain that they are part of a race of subterranean creatures known as Mutores and that their kind sealed the evil Inhumanoids Tendril and D'Compose beneath the Earth ages ago.
The malevolent Inhumanoid leader, Metlar, remains imprisoned below the surface, paralyzed by the magnetic field of a Mutore duo named Magnokor. A nocturnal assault by Tendril demolishes the Earth Corps base, prompting a chase into the depths of the Earth, but even with the help of another Mutore species, the rock-bodied Granites, they are forced to retreat to the surface. When their budget is summarily cut by Senator Masterson, a crooked politician in Blackthorne Shore's shady pocket, they are approached by Sandra Shore, Blackthorne's sister, who has learned of her brother's sinister plot to liberate Metlar. Funded by Sandra, the team constructs new vehicles and embarks back below the Earth's surface, tracking D'Compose and Tendril to the city of the Granites, where an ensuing battle frees Metlar from Magnokor's hold. Having pilfered the Earth Corps's engineering schematics via his ties to Masterson, Blackthorne joins the fray, now equipped with his own battle suit whose magnetic powers he wields against Metlar, only to be derailed by Tendril's interference while Sandra falls victim to the mutative touch of D'Compose.
Earth Corps manages to escape and forms an alliance with the Granites. Herc accompanies them to D'Compose's domain of Skellweb while Auger and Liquidator venture into Metlar's kingdom of Infernac and Bright convinces the Redwoods to help defend the surface world against attempts by the Inhumanoids to acquire sources of power. Herc and the Granites are able to defeat D'Compose's reanimated soldiers and restore Sandra to normal. Blackthorne pursues Auger and Liquidator to Infernac and tries to use his magnetic powers on Metlar once again but is foiled by Magnokor and taken captive by Metlar. Acting on information forced from Blackthorne, the Inhumanoids raid a Soviet airbase, stealing a handful of nuclear missiles. A seemingly repentant Blackthorne warns Earth Corps that the missiles are intended to shatter the divide between the Earth's crust and mantle, but upon traveling into the Earth to preclude this catastrophe, the team discovers that Blackthorne has set them up and that the missiles are actually meant to detonate the planet's core.
Earth Corps is able to convince D'Compose to allow them access to Infernac—a deal made easier by the fact that the Inhumanoid already fears for his survival in the face of Metlar's insane plan—and they manage to defuse enough of the missiles to thwart the explosive scheme. Following a climactic battle, D'Compose is re-sealed in amber casing, and Tendril is imprisoned by the Granites. Finally, Magnokor succeeds in neutralizing Metlar even as Blackthorne is arrested by Earth Corps. Senator Masterson provides the Earth Corps team with a new headquarters facility, but a tissue sample secured from Tendril during their first encounter with the monster has mysteriously gone missing.
My Rating: N/A
My Reasoning: I've never seen this but it definitely sounds interesting. I will check it out. It kind of looks like some of the other cartoons of the time.

It's a long story, but BSFL are hideously amazing. A bent for science and a few spare parts later, I'm making it a "show"!
Introducing Episode 1 of Chubby Grubbies MaggoTV: "Meat d'Composers" (a.k.a. "Thanks Given"). Marvel as these dirt hermits churn away at some leftover Thanksgiving turkey in their habitat, Wriggly Field.

Comic Confessions: As a little girl in the 1980s, the TV show "Inhumanoids" was one of the few shows that actually scared me. The sight of that hand reaching out from below and grabbing the title are chilling and stand the test of time. I mean, I could even tell you the impact that had on me: I used to have images of a hand like this coming out from under my bed or anything else that was not in my peripheral vision when I was scared. I even remember confiding in my mother that it scared me, so she advised me not to watch this show anymore and the “bad hand” go away. And it did.
I would love to see it rebooted because it really is a great series that was ahead of its time though I would not let small children see it either. This show was for teenagers though I would still recommend watching it if you are one or up. Just because a show wasn’t for kids after all doesn’t mean it wasn’t good.
In fact, it should be rebooted because a cartoon like this would be great with some cleaned up storytelling and better character development. It can also be relevant with the times with how we are trying harder and hard to explore the unknown. I would classify it as fantasy/horror though and not make it kid friendly. I say embrace the terror.
PS: Noticed what my mom did? She didn’t sue, rally or make a federal case about it. She simply advised me to not watch a show that bothered or scared me, and that was the end of it.

Your wish is my command!
Sandra Shore's mother was probably closer in age to Blackthorn than to the elder Mr. Shore, and is currently living the life of a Wealthy Widow in Italy or something.
The First Mrs. Shore is a witch or some sort, and is deeply disappointed in her little Blackthorn and him not going down that path (his initial fascination with the Inhumanoids is her fault.)
D'compose is a regular viewer of Hector Ramirez's show. He is also a fan of The Misfits from Jem.
I’m having some very bland Inhumanoids headcanons
So, Blackthorn Shore, the primary human protagonist with the implausible first name.
My bland little headcanon: Blackthorn is named Blackthorn because “Blackthorn” was his mother’s maiden name, and she was the last in a line of Rich People, with no sons to keep passing the family name on.
