DMK treating Vanniyar neighborhood as mere vote financial institution throughout elections: Anbumani Ramadoss
DMK treating Vanniyar neighborhood as mere vote financial institution throughout elections: Anbumani Ramadoss PMK chief Anbumani Ramadoss waves to the employees throughout a protest in Villupuram district on Sunday, demanding 10.5% reservation for Vanniyars. | Photo Credit: M. SAMRAJ PMK chief Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday charged the ruling DMK of treating the Vanniyar neighborhood merely as a vote financial institution throughout elections. He claimed the social gathering, its president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Ok. Stalin have been towards Vanniyars and social justice. Leading an indication on the municipal floor in Villupuram demanding the implementation of 10.5 % reservation for Vanniyars, Mr. Anbumani alleged that Mr. Stalin betrayed the Vanniyar neighborhood by refusing to supply inner reservations for Vanniyars throughout the MBC quota. Though 1208 days have handed for the reason that Supreme Court struck down the Vanniyar reservations, the ruling DMK has been constantly deceptive the individuals on this subject, he claimed. The Apex courtroom has noticed that reservations for the Vanniyars or some other neighborhood may be given based mostly on quantifiable information. Mr. Anbumani stated the plea for reservation for Vanniyars had not been fulfilled for the final 45 years. As many as 21 individuals misplaced their lives through the wrestle demanding unique reservation for Vanniyars in 1989. Of them, 15 have been from Villupuram district. The former Union minister recalled that he and his father, and social gathering founder S. Ramadoss, had met the Chief Minister on a number of events to press for the implementation of 10.5% reservation, however in useless. “The DMK and the Chief Minister betrayed the PMK by promising to offer 10.5% inner reservation, and after 4 years, now Mr. Stalin is saying that reservation may very well be given solely after the Union Government conducts the caste census. Mr. Stalin repeatedly stated this lie whereas States like Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha, and Bihar carried out caste surveys, and now once more Karnataka has introduced they're going to conduct a second caste survey. While these States have the precise to conduct the surveys, why does Tamil Nadu not have that energy?” Mr. Anbumani questioned. Of its complete representatives, the DMK has 23 MLAs and 5 Members of Parliament from the Vanniyar neighborhood. “Did the Dravidian social gathering implement any welfare schemes for the upliftment of the neighborhood?” he requested. Stating not even one vote ought to go to the DMK within the 2026 elections, Mr. Anbumani stated the time to unseat the DMK authorities has come. Mr. Anbumani stated the social gathering would quickly launch a jail bharo agitation throughout the State in assist of its demand. If the DMK authorities fails to enact a regulation and guarantee 10.5% reservation for Vanniyars, the social gathering would intensify its protest and maintain a street roko agitation within the second section. No Problem If All Were Like Senthil Balaji,” Says Udhayanidhi Stalin
In a powerful show of support and admiration, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister and DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin heaped praise on former minister and Karur MLA Senthil Balaji during his visit to the district. The statement came amidst a series of events that highlighted the DMK’s continued grassroots engagement in Karur.
Udhayanidhi Stalin arrived in Karur yesterday to participate in various district-level functions. On the following day, he attended a high-level consultative meeting at the District Collector’s Office, where he was briefed on ongoing government schemes and development projects.
Later in the day, a major meeting of DMK Youth Wing executives from district, union, Perur, and club levels was held at a private wedding hall in Karur. Udhayanidhi, attending as the special guest, delivered a spirited keynote address that energized the party cadre.
During his speech, he made a striking remark about Senthil Balaji, saying:
“Senthil Balaji conducts the meeting like a conference. If all district secretaries were like Senthil Balaji, there would be no problem.”
The statement triggered thunderous applause across the hall, with DMK Youth Wing executives visibly delighted by the acknowledgment. The words carried weight, especially considering the ongoing controversies and political challenges that Senthil Balaji has faced in recent times.
Despite those challenges, Balaji continues to enjoy strong grassroots support in his constituency and within the DMK ranks. Udhayanidhi's endorsement sends a clear signal to party workers that loyalty, organizational skill, and unwavering commitment to the party’s mission are still highly valued traits in the DMK hierarchy.
A Boost for the Youth Wing
The meeting also served to reinforce the role of the Youth Wing in shaping the party's future. With Udhayanidhi Stalin at the helm, the DMK Youth Wing has been actively organizing events, campaigns, and leadership development sessions to prepare the next generation of leaders.
This praise for Senthil Balaji comes at a crucial time, as the party gears up for upcoming local body and parliamentary elections. The emphasis on efficient, charismatic, and disciplined leadership was a theme that echoed throughout Udhayanidhi’s address.
As the DMK continues to consolidate its presence in Tamil Nadu, statements like these not only motivate the party rank and file but also help steer the narrative within and outside the organization.

Why Tamil Nadu’s Rajya Sabha Polls Are a Crucial Test for DMK and AIADMK Alliances
As Tamil Nadu gears up for the high-stakes Rajya Sabha elections on June 19, the spotlight is firmly on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). With six Rajya Sabha seats up for grabs, these elections are not just about sending representatives to the Upper House—they are a litmus test for alliance dynamics, political relevance, and long-term strategy for Tamil Nadu’s major parties and their allies.
What’s at Stake?
The tenure of six Rajya Sabha MPs from Tamil Nadu is set to end on July 24. These include:
DMK’s M Shanmugam, P Wilson, M Mohamed Abdulla
MDMK’s Vaiko
AIADMK’s N Chandrasegharan
PMK’s Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss
With 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, a candidate needs at least 34 votes to win a Rajya Sabha seat. Currently, the DMK-led INDIA bloc holds 158 MLAs and can easily win four seats. The AIADMK-led NDA bloc has 75 MLAs, giving them a shot at winning two seats—though that depends on intra-alliance cooperation.
DMK’s Dilemma: Kamal or Vaiko?
For the DMK, the big question is about who gets the ticket. The party is almost certain to re-nominate P Wilson and M Mohamed Abdulla, and may replace M Shanmugam with a younger face.
However, the bigger challenge is whether to retain Vaiko, a veteran politician and ally from the MDMK, or move ahead with actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM)—a newcomer to the INDIA alliance. Sources indicate that the DMK is leaning toward Kamal Haasan, following a prior understanding reached during the 2024 Lok Sabha alliance talks.
Not giving Vaiko a seat could spark discontent, considering his long-standing ideological and political association with the DMK. Yet, with limited seats and rising aspirations within the alliance, it’s a delicate balancing act for Chief Minister M K Stalin.
AIADMK’s Internal Tug-of-War
On the other side, the AIADMK, led by Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS), faces a different kind of challenge. The party has 66 MLAs, which ensures one Rajya Sabha seat, but winning a second seat will require support from allies like PMK, BJP, and DMDK.
Here's where it gets tricky:
DMDK’s Premalatha Vijayakanth claims her party was promised a Rajya Sabha seat during the 2024 Lok Sabha alliance talks.
BJP, with 4 MLAs, is pushing hard for its leader K Annamalai to be nominated, especially after his resignation as the state BJP president.
PMK, too, may seek representation, especially with outgoing MP Anbumani Ramadoss’s term ending.
However, insiders suggest EPS is not keen on letting Annamalai gain traction, possibly due to internal rivalry and the BJP's growing ambitions in Tamil Nadu.
Why This Poll Matters for Smaller Parties
The Rajya Sabha elections are a rare opportunity for smaller parties to stay politically relevant. In past polls, even parties with minimal legislative strength have been rewarded due to their strategic value. For instance:
In 2021, both MDMK and PMK were given seats not because of their MLA numbers but due to their alliance value.
In 1986, DMK’s T R Baalu pulled off a shock win thanks to cross-voting in the AIADMK-Congress bloc.
Even in 1970, political heavyweight C Subramaniam lost despite being backed by Indira Gandhi’s Congress faction.
This historical unpredictability is why the 2024 Rajya Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu could once again produce surprises and shifts in the state’s political landscape.
Names Doing the Rounds
On the AIADMK side, several senior and young leaders are being considered, including:
D Jayakumar
S Semmalai
Gokula Indira
J Jayavardhan
VVR Raj Satyen
There’s also growing pressure within the AIADMK to give a seat to someone from Tamil Nadu’s southern districts, where the party has been losing support, or from the fishermen community, which has lacked Upper House representation since Valumpuri John in 1990.
Final Thoughts
As Tamil Nadu’s political heavyweights negotiate, lobby, and strategize ahead of the June 19 Rajya Sabha polls, the outcome will offer more than just a new set of MPs. It will:
Reveal the strength and fragility of pre-2026 alliances.
Determine the future roles of leaders like Vaiko, Kamal Haasan, and K Annamalai.
Set the tone for the 2026 Assembly elections.
With limited seats and high ambitions, this Rajya Sabha election may shape the next chapter in Tamil Nadu politics more than most expect.

Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai Arrested Ahead of Protest Against TASMAC Corruption

Chennai police arrested Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai on Monday morning, just hours before he was set to lead a protest against alleged Rs 1,000-crore corruption in TASMAC, the state-run liquor retailer. Annamalai was detained near his residence in Akkarai before he could head to the demonstration at TASMAC’s headquarters in Egmore.
Multiple BJP Leaders Detained in Chennai
The crackdown extended beyond Annamalai, with several senior BJP leaders taken into custody. Former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, BJP Mahila Morcha President and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, and BJP MLA Saraswathi were among those detained. The arrests took place as BJP workers started assembling for the protest.
TASMAC Scam: ED Uncovers Rs 1,000-Crore Corruption
The protest aimed to expose a massive Rs 1,000-crore scam linked to TASMAC, as revealed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The investigation uncovered bribery in liquor supply deals, manipulated tenders, and unaccounted cash transactions between TASMAC officials and major liquor manufacturers.
Heavy Police Deployment Blocks BJP Protest
As BJP supporters marched from Rajarathinam Stadium toward TASMAC’s office, Chennai police imposed heavy security measures. Authorities even surrounded Soundararajan’s residence in Saligramam to prevent her participation. Many BJP workers were detained before reaching the protest site.
Annamalai Slams DMK Government After Arrest
Following his arrest, Annamalai accused the ruling DMK government of suppressing dissent. He called the police action a “cowardly move” to silence opposition voices. “You did this only because we announced the protest in advance,” he said, warning of future surprise demonstrations.
ED Investigation Exposes Massive TASMAC Corruption
The ED’s recent raids across Tamil Nadu on March 6 unearthed shocking corruption within TASMAC, including: ✅ Fake invoices and inflated expenses used to siphon illegal funds. ✅ Rs 100 crore worth of transport contracts awarded to ineligible bidders, some with no competition. ✅ TASMAC liquor shops overcharging customers by Rs 10 to Rs 30 per bottle. ✅ Bribes influencing staff transfers within TASMAC.
Political Tensions Rise as TASMAC Scandal Deepens
With the ED intensifying its investigation, arrests are mounting, fueling political friction between the BJP and Tamil Nadu’s ruling parties. As allegations of large-scale corruption in TASMAC continue to surface, the controversy is expected to escalate, leading to further political showdowns in the state.

[ad_1] Paromita Das New Delhi: Tamil Nadu has long been at the forefront of asserting its linguistic and cultural identity, often in defiance of policies it perceives as threats to its autonomy. The latest controversy surrounding the removal of the Bharatiya Rupee symbol (₹) from the state budget logo and its replacement with the Tamil alphabet ‘Ru’ has reignited debates about regionalism, nationalism, and the role of language in governance. Critics, especially from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have called this a deliberate move by the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government to undermine national unity, while supporters argue that it is a rightful assertion of Tamil pride. The debate has unfolded against the backdrop of Tamil Nadu’s historical opposition to the imposition of Hindi and the state’s ongoing conflict with the central government over linguistic policies. The Controversy: Replacing ₹ with ‘Ru’ Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin recently unveiled the 2025-26 state budget logo, which conspicuously replaced the ₹ symbol with the Tamil alphabet ‘Ru’. The decision was met with immediate backlash, with BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan criticizing the move as a planned act of disrespect towards a national symbol. “Yesterday, the CM posted the removal of the Rupee symbol. He was very specific about using the Tamil symbol. Of course, we are using the Tamil symbol, but he intentionally, in a planned way, is ignoring or disrespecting the national symbol. That is our concern,” she said. The controversy deepened when BJP Tamil Nadu Chief K Annamalai pointed out the irony behind the move. The original Rupee symbol (₹) was designed by D. Udaya Kumar, a Tamilian and the son of a former DMK MLA. Annamalai questioned why the DMK government would choose to discard a Tamil-origin national symbol, calling the decision misguided and unnecessary. A Legacy of Tamil Nadu’s Resistance to Central Influence To fully understand the significance of this controversy, one must look at Tamil Nadu’s history of opposing central policies that it views as impositions on its autonomy. The state has long been a stronghold of anti-Hindi sentiments, which date back to the Dravidian movement of the early 20th century. Tamil Nadu was at the forefront of the anti-Hindi agitations of 1965, which erupted in response to the central government’s attempt to make Hindi Bharat’s sole official language. The protests turned violent, leading to deaths, widespread unrest, and ultimately forcing the Bharatiya government to amend its stance and allow English to continue as an official language alongside Hindi. This fierce opposition to Hindi imposition has remained a defining feature of Tamil Nadu’s politics, influencing its education policies, government functioning, and linguistic preferences. The DMK and AIADMK, the two major Dravidian parties, have historically resisted any move that appears to threaten Tamil linguistic and cultural identity. The Three-Language Formula and the NEP Dispute The controversy over the Rupee symbol has also been fueled by Tamil Nadu’s opposition to the three-language formula proposed in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NEP recommends that schools teach three languages, with an emphasis on Hindi, English, and a regional language. Tamil Nadu, however, has staunchly rejected this policy, fearing that it is a veiled attempt to impose Hindi on non-Hindi-speaking states. CM Stalin has vocally opposed the NEP, arguing that it undermines Tamil Nadu’s autonomy and linguistic diversity. The state has continued to adhere to its two-language policy (Tamil and English), refusing to introduce Hindi into the curriculum in government schools. The removal of the Rupee symbol in favor of ‘Ru’ could thus be seen as an extension of this ideological battle—a symbolic rejection of what the DMK sees as central impositions in favor of Tamil identity. A Political Move or Genuine Cultural Assertion? The DMK government has defended its decision, stating that the use
of the Tamil ‘Ru’ is a reflection of Tamil Nadu’s rich cultural heritage and linguistic pride. Supporters argue that this is not about rejecting the Bharatiya Rupee symbol but about promoting Tamil language and script in state affairs. However, critics, particularly from the BJP and its allies, see this as a calculated move to stir regional sentiments ahead of the 2024 elections. They argue that replacing a national symbol with a regional one is a dangerous precedent that could fuel further divisions between states and the Centre. BJP leaders have accused the DMK of intentionally stoking linguistic and regional pride to consolidate its voter base, particularly among those who resent the central government’s policies on language and education. Can Regional Identity and National Unity Coexist? The Tamil Nadu government’s decision to replace the Rupee symbol is a classic example of the tension between regional identity and national unity. On one hand, Bharat is a diverse country where states have the right to promote their languages and cultures. Tamil Nadu’s emphasis on Tamil pride and linguistic heritage is deeply rooted in its history and cannot be dismissed as mere political posturing. On the other hand, symbols play a crucial role in national unity. The Rupee symbol (₹) is not just a monetary sign but a representation of Bharat’s economic sovereignty and collective identity. When a state replaces such a widely accepted national emblem with a regional alternative, it raises concerns about unity, precedent, and the risk of further regional divisions. The bigger question is whether Bharat can embrace regional pride while maintaining national coherence. Can Tamil Nadu assert its linguistic identity without rejecting national symbols that bind the country together? The fine balance between federalism and nationalism is a constant negotiation in a country as diverse as Bharat. Conclusion: A Controversy That Won’t Fade Soon The replacement of the Rupee symbol with ‘Ru’ in the Tamil Nadu budget logo is far more than a graphic design choice—it is a statement of defiance, a symbol of Tamil assertion, and a continuation of Tamil Nadu’s long-standing resistance to perceived central impositions. While supporters of the move celebrate it as a tribute to Tamil heritage, opponents argue that it is an unnecessary and divisive political stunt aimed at provoking the central government and asserting Tamil Nadu’s regionalism over national unity. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether this is an isolated incident or the beginning of a larger movement toward regional identity politics in Tamil Nadu and beyond. What is clear, however, is that the DMK government is once again positioning itself as a champion of Tamil autonomy, setting the stage for yet another ideological battle with the Centre. Oraniyil Tamil Nadu: DMK’s Ground-Level Campaign to Connect with 2 Crore Households
In a bid to intensify its grassroots presence and better understand the pulse of the electorate, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has launched an ambitious state-wide outreach program titled "Oraniyil Tamil Nadu". This initiative is not only a political survey but also a movement designed to foster direct engagement between the ruling party and the people of Tamil Nadu.
What is "Oraniyil Tamil Nadu"?
"Oraniyil Tamil Nadu" (translated as Tamil Nadu at Your Doorstep) is a 45-day campaign aimed at covering 2 crore households across the state. The campaign operates through 68,000 polling booths, with party functionaries, youth members, women volunteers, and digital agents visiting each household to collect feedback and assess voter sentiment.
The heart of the campaign is a six-question Yes-or-No leaflet, which forms the foundation for dialogue between the DMK and the electorate. This exercise is helping the party evaluate both its performance and the people’s perceptions at the micro-level.
The Six Key Questions
Here are the six crucial questions posed to residents during the campaign:
Do you believe that Tamil Nadu’s soil, language, and dignity must be protected under any circumstance?
Should Mahalir Urimai Thogai and welfare schemes for farmers, fishermen, weavers, and other sections continue?
Should the future of Tamil Nadu and its youth be safeguarded against NEET-like entrance exams, unfair delimitation, denial of education funds, and the state’s rightful share of taxes?
Should our state be governed by a Chief Minister who does not bow to Delhi’s authority and protects Tamil Nadu’s rights?
Do you believe that an experienced leader like MK Stalin alone can ensure these goals and provide a stable government?
Do you and your family wish to join hands with crores of families in the state under ‘Oraniyil Tamil Nadu’?
MK Stalin’s Active Involvement
Chief Minister MK Stalin is personally monitoring the campaign's progress. He receives daily performance updates from each district, union, and constituency, highlighting both outstanding and underperforming units. The Chief Minister is also conducting random video calls to functionaries in the field and holds one-on-one meetings under the "Udanpirappe Vaa" initiative, demanding accountability and improvements where needed.
Emphasis on Digital and Genuine Membership
According to B Prakash, Youth Wing Secretary of Chennai West, the campaign also offers residents an option to officially enroll as DMK members. If a household member expresses interest, they are sent an OTP via the party’s mobile application. Only after verifying the OTP can they be added as a member — a method designed to ensure authentic and voluntary participation.
“From our two days of experience, we’ve seen that in almost every household, someone has benefited from at least one of the DMK government’s schemes — whether it’s Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam, Naan Mudhalvan, or similar programs,” said Prakash.
Listening to Local Voices
MLA Ezhilan Naganathan took the campaign to the streets of Gopalapuram, starting his door-to-door visit from the iconic residence of M. Karunanidhi, the late DMK patriarch. His goal was to hear the people's voices firsthand, tackle grievances, and counter political misinformation.
Some residents raised concerns about the hike in electricity tariffs and property taxes. Naganathan clarified that these hikes were necessitated by commitments made under the UDAY scheme by the previous AIADMK government and central government mandates. According to him, when people are presented with facts, they are more understanding.
A New Standard in Grassroots Politics
"Oraniyil Tamil Nadu" is setting a precedent for data-driven, people-centric campaigning. Rather than relying solely on traditional rallies and speeches, the DMK is focusing on building trust, resolving issues, and showcasing the tangible benefits of their governance.
This campaign comes at a critical juncture, as Tamil Nadu heads into an intense political season where voter sentiment, grassroots feedback, and welfare program impact will play pivotal roles.
Final Thoughts
"Oraniyil Tamil Nadu" is more than a political campaign — it’s a listening exercise, a membership drive, and a confidence-building initiative rolled into one. By knocking on every door, the DMK hopes to build not just a voter base but a deep-rooted relationship with Tamil Nadu’s people.
As the campaign unfolds across 68,000 booths, the big question remains: Will this ground-level effort translate into electoral success for the ruling party?

In a statement released following recent Income Tax (I-T) raids, G Square Realtors has firmly denied any association with political parties or their members. The prominent real estate company, led by Managing Director Bala alias Ramajeyam, emphasized that the investigations have conclusively debunked all allegations and malicious claims, including an exaggerated estimation of the company's net worth at Rs 38,000 crore.
Allegations Addressed Post G Square IT Raid
The I-T raids, conducted on 24 April, targeted over 50 locations across Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, and Hosur, as well as the residence of DMK MLA M.K. Mohan. Following the searches, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Responding to these accusations, Bala clarified, “The investigations have effectively debunked all baseless allegations, including the false and malicious claim regarding our net worth of Rs 38,000 crore.” He also denied reports suggesting the seizure of Rs 3.50 crore during the raids, calling such claims “baseless, misleading, and intended to tarnish our reputation.” Bala assured that all records are verifiable with tax authorities.

Despite allegations from State BJP Vice President Narayanan Thirupathy questioning the company’s rapid growth and perceived connections to DMK members, G Square Realtors categorically denied any political ties. Thirupathy alleged that the firm’s association with certain political figures transformed it into a Rs 30,000 crore enterprise within two years. However, G Square has maintained that the company operates transparently and independently.
