girl I think Paramount+ is missing a scene in the final ds9 episode. Unless I fucking hallucinated the scene where Garak said goodbye to Julian in part 2 of what we leave behind
Edit: yes they have why is paramount+ using a version of the show that is missing scenes. I have to kill someone.

First observation about the development of the Sisko-Kira dynamic is that there are several moments in the very early episodes where Sisko extends trust towards Kira despite the friction between them. In Past Prologue, she insists that she should accompany Tahna Los on the runabout for credibility when he goes to make the exchange. Sisko goes along with it despite his reservations, because he listens to her reasoning and realizes she’s right. And this is the same episode where earlier he was laying into her for going behind his back with Starfleet Command, and where he was suspicious as to the extent of her involvement with the Kohn-Ma. In Babel, right when Kira’s about to storm off to abduct Dr. Surmak (insane of her), Sisko tries to stop her, but relents when Odo points out that they’re in a pretty desperate situation.
And I think that pattern really lays the groundwork for her stated willingness to work collaboratively with him at the end of the season. In the pilot, when she’s hostile towards him, he says that he specifically requested a Bajoran First Officer. His later behaviour shows that it wasn’t just a symbolic request, and that he does value her input and shape his approach based on it.
(It’s also interesting that in both those examples, Odo is acting as something of an intermediary between them - the Babel example, and the fact that in Past Prologue, when Kira confides in him about her conflicted loyalties, he gives her a nudge towards telling Sisko everything by calling Sisko to his office, which paves the way for Sisko trusting her to be a part of the plan to apprehend Tahna.)

It is a truth universally acknowledged that an old Klingon man in possession of an adventure plot hook must be in search of a Deep Space 9 crew member.

one of my favorite tidbits of rewatchign ds9 is the casual mention of that one Ensign who uses he/him pronouns "budding" (getting pregnant)
and then when Kira takes on the o'brian baby they mention the guy has like 12 children lol

thinking about how Julian in DBIP is fully having a breakdown the moment he realises his secret is out and the life he worked so hard to define himself by (way far away from the suffocating pressure of Earth and in a world that doesn't know or expect anything about him) is gone and he'll never able to go back to that. Everyone knows he's "unnatural" now which makes his excitement at starting on DS9 all the more tragic BC he just wanted so badly to exist and Be Himself.
Sure he has ambitions & gets overexcited and is INCREDIBLY bad at reading social cues but I think he just really wanted that fresh start. Like he says he hasn't come "home" in three years which means he tried to come back after establishing himself at ds9 and finding people who decided they liked him even if he was an unnatural freak (his words). Man. Imagine him coming back to his parents and realising just how bad that situation was now he has friends like Miles or Jadzia or even a commanding officer like Sisko in his corner. You ever just cry

It's really charming how Julian starts nervously stammering a bit when he asks Jadzia out in the pilot and then does the exact same thing when Garak approaches first approaches him. Really bringing the bisexual energy.

tbh i feel like most kiraodo fans just pretend they got together some other way because i don't think the shippers were happy with how it happened either.
sounds about right. i mean, it's a series from the 90s and if there is a few bad episodes in between that's fine.
this one just really bothered me. For personal feelings reasons and just plausability reasons which is why i felt the need to scream it into the void
I'm honestly too disconnected from the fandom and the discourse to know how much kiraodo shipping is generally, like, a thing, and how well liked the relationship is. I generally like the dynamic Kira and Odo have going on, but the pining was always something I personally (as an aroace person) found bothersome

lwaxana troi has such disastrous pansexual energy to me. i can see her touring ds9 (so shes by herself and randomly walking thru any open door lmao) and she walks into the gym. And theres jadzia, pumping iron like the buff daddy she is. lwaxana for once is utterly speechless

Love how Bashir’s bedside manner for Klingons is just loudly complaining and bullying them as revenge for almost getting killed in the holosuites
