Hello, CodeHunters!

Well, it has officially been a full week since the beginning of CodeMageddon. And what a week it has been!

At around 2 PM EST today, Discord users ‘the insanely cool jared kleinman’ and ‘the kool aid man’ (aka: the Pidge Twins) headed out for the Marriott in Atlanta, GA! It was a three-hour road trip for them, so they got there at about 5 PM EST. Periscope: https://www.periscope.tv/JARED_KLEINMAN/1vOxwvMZvzEJB

Once they arrived, they set out looking for the Agent they were supposed to be meeting. Agent Sprinkles appeared briefly to pass them a large plastic box and a small bag, then disappeared.

It seems our fears of PuzzleHell v2.0 proved to be true: for the bag that Sprinkles handed them was full of puzzle pieces!

Thankfully, there don’t seem to be 2,000 pieces, nor are they monochrome yellow, like the CipherHunt puzzle from last year. Hopefully, this puzzle will be much easier to solve!

Also inside the puzzle bag was a slip of paper containing what may be the location for the next clue (somewhere in Sydney, Australia):

Are you up for a barbeque? The Olympians sure are. In a park with quite a view. With 200 circles around a star.

And if I were you, Solve the puzzle too.

Our CodeHunters are currently taking this to mean the Bicentennial park (a subset of the Olympic Park) in Sydney. “It’s definitely Bicentennial park, it’s in Sydney Olympic Park, Has free Electric BBQ, Quite a view and Bicentennial stands for 200 years(200 circles around the sun/star)” says Discord user minecraft_is_sky

Hopefully, more info will be revealed through the completion of the puzzle, and the contents of the mysterious box!

Speaking of the box….

This note was found inside of the box that Sprinkles gave to the hunters:

The contents of this box are from the defected time agent Blendin Blandin’s office space. The items encased may show how the agent cracked. We do not condone any use of said items. All files and evidence in box are cleared by TPAES. Do not regard any conspiracy that the agent had claimed to be true. Some files have been removed for evidence bay and privacy. Files that have been removed: File 3216: Flskhu (Cipher) File 0902: Wlph edab lihytyda soda (Time Baby Revival Plan) File 5397: Ruhjrq Wlph vziwfk (Oregon Time Switch) Those files were either destroyed or on file. Contact local time police if files are needed Do not disclose anything in this box to any criminal.

The ciphered parts were decoded by Discord user DeviouslyDoomed.

The box contained collections of files in code, as well as: 2 pink erasers, a huge red Sharpie labeled "Blendin Blandin's Correction Marker", a bag with a single red pen, a bag with 2 party noisemakers, a message pad, and a bag with 2 water guns.

The Pidge Twins decided to wait until they got back home to start going through the files in-depth, so they left the hotel and started on the long drive home. However, they did post pictures of some of the codes for the rest of our intrepid CodeHunters to solve.

And solve them they did! CodeHunters got right on decoding those ciphered files. There were stacks of pages, absolutely covered in text in 6pt font. They were encoded with only a simple Caesarian shift, so our CodeHunters were quickly able to decode the contents as being….

None of the files seem to be of much importance, containing memes and jokes such as the Bee Movie script, RickRoll lyrics, and random words about potatoes.

In fact, the entirety of this clue seemed to be one big joke, as the puzzle ended up being the Ker-Prank’d image.

And upon close inspection, none of the files from the box seemed to contain a blacklight message (which Agent Sprinkles did confirm). But beyond that: the Pidge Twins couldn’t find any blacklight messages anywhere. Not on the puzzle, or any of the things inside the box, or even the box itself.

Our CodeHunters are left feeling stumped and confused. Was this clue all for show?

To wrap up, the next clue is hidden somewhere in Bicentennial Park in Sydney, Australia, possibly near a barbecue pit. Discord user HopeCvon has suggested that it may be at the BBQ place called Twin Shade Sails near Sundial Amphitheater.

Several CodeHunters are interested in checking that out tomorrow.

Hello Mister Once-Ler! Fancy pad ya got here. How long did it take to make this swell place?

Dear Deviouslydoomed,

Glad to hear you dig it, sister! Sure is keen, isn’t it?

This swell place, if we’re talking my Main Office (which you can see for yourself in Special Letter #6) took about a half-year altogether to gussy up nice how it is now. If we’re talking the entire factory and it’s surrounding outbuildings, now that’s been an ongoing process since day one, you can imagine, and I can imagine you don’t want me to get into the details. 

To make a near decade-long story short-ish, the first incarnation of the Original Thneed Factory—the original Original, if you will—was a building almost none of you would recognize. It looked a little something like this:

Demand got too high, supply couldn’t keep up, we had to invest in expansion, function, automated production! Years of biggering later, and you get  the sprawling behemoth of square footage we know and love. It’s that same worn-out old story: sales keep going nothing but up, the factory bulks out, more factory means more workers, new workers means new neighbors in town, the town needs transformation to accommodate the boom in population, the least I can do is donate a little something to the cause…next thing you know I have the key to a city named after my invention. Sounds like a wild ride, but it was only a matter of answering each brisk, successive call of inevitability. Less of an “overnight success” than a pack of whirlwind years that dropped me off at the other side a dizzy billionaire. To be honest, I still catch myself wondering if I just got mixed up someplace and this is someone else’s fancy pad!

 Actually, when I first started construction on my old factory, the professionals helping me pull this stunt were none too happy with the choice of location. Some rap about the soil being too weak, sinkholes…but when great minds come together, the job gets done. Even if it does take a while.

CodeMageddon DAY 5 SUMMARY

Hello, CodeHunters!

Early this morning, Agent Sprinkles released a few more tweets about the clue in Atlanta.

These are decoded as from bottom to top:

“This is Time Agent 3927 from The Time Paradox Avoidance Enforcement Squadron. I am contacting via internet to relay info.”

“I received a special request to deliver the inhabitants of "Atlanta" a confidential item from the evidence bay.”

“Getting the item clearance will be the hardest part. It may take a while. And because of Law 302726 my time runs out exactly like the item.”

Discord user CipherHuntingFamily successfully pinpointed the correct Marriott in Georgia by discovering this object in the lobby of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. This looks remarkably like the golden nautilus shell the hunters in Long Beach were supposed to find.

This was confirmed with a follow up tweet by Agent Sprinkles which read:

“The Lobby Marriott Marquis is the only location I can teleport today. The meetup must be at night. Around 7pm-9pm EST Past Time.”

Unfortunately, no hunters were able to reach the destination at the specified time, so this clue’s pick up has been delayed until tomorrow.

At 11 AM EST, Agent Snowcone updated the location of the book in Wisconsin.

Through some fantastic yagoogling, Discord user DeviouslyDoomed managed to find the location of this “Tiny Library”. 2024 hi mount boulevard Milwaukee, WI.

Soon after around 3 PM EST, Discord users Hilarious Pain and NennaLou arrived in Milwaukee to search for the book “Flatland”. They live streamed finding the clue (while also wearing an awesome fez) on periscope:  https://www.pscp.tv/Hilarious_Pain

They successfully found the book, and managed to resist all temptations to CONSUME IT.

It was noted that four pages in the book had math equations in the top and letters crossed out in the text.

PG 1. Equation: (-3 * 7) + 1 Answer: -20

PG 2. Equation: (-190+28)/9 Answer: -18

PG 3. Equation: (-20*3)/4 Answer: -15

PG 4. Equation: 68/2. If even: /2 If odd, *3 +1 Repeat.  Answer: 1

After our CodeHunters attempted many decoding methods, Discord user Kyursten came up with the correct answer by shifting the letters in the book text, based on the answer to the equation on each page.

When the crossed out letters were shifted, and then reversed, it revealed the message:

Sing a song of Sixpence A pocket full of stein If you got nerve then you’ve got verve And you’re sure to spot the swine

This riddle stumped our CodeHunters for quite some time, sending them in directions such as England, Germany, France, and so forth. Until Axolotl gave some advice to search for the “Stein song”, which quickly led our hunters to Maine, USA. From here, Discord users Malasky and Kirrasaurus found that “Verve” is a burrito restaurant in Maine, and it just happens that the University the “Stein song” comes from is in the same town as a “Verve” restaurant, coincidence? Our hunters think not!  

Luckily, Discord user Saevus Winds is a student at UMaine in Orono, and was quite close to the potential clue location. She streamed the hunt from her periscope: https://www.pscp.tv/saevuswinds

Inside, she found a handmade Waddles’ plush, along with a giftcard to buy a burrito, and instead of CONSUMING THE PIG, she stabbed it open, and revealed a clue. (Sidenote: it was meant to be opened)

Inside of Waddle’s stomach Saevus Winds found this clue:

Within seconds our clue hunters realized something was written in Braille on the yarn. But after many struggles with attempting to read the the yarn, Discord user Jenna 1002 decoded:

“Richard Black Point Cannon”

From that, Discord user ohibridget was the first to successfully pin it to Fort Mason’s Black Point San Francisco. Once this was decided, Agent Mari mentioned that at 12 PM PST, an Agent will be at the Fort with prizes for the clue hunters.

In wrap up, we may have hunters heading to Fort Mason tomorrow afternoon; and the Atlanta clue has most likely been delayed until Saturday, so that Discord users MCGreekFreak and the insanely cool jared kleinman can meet up with Agent Sprinkles at 5 PM EST.

If anyone is near San Francisco, please confirm if you can be at location on Fort Mason tomorrow after 12 PM PST.
