6 weeks. It had been 6 weeks since Carmy had left you without a word. You had felt it coming, though. He had become more flighty, stopped answering your texts- stopped coming over at random hours of the night after he’d gotten off work. You had been completely and utterly ghosted.
All that though, for his location to still be on for you. When you were feeling extra depressed, or angry- you would go look at it. 9 times out of 10, it was at The Bear, or his Apartment. Tonight though was different, some bar a few blocks from your apartment ; The Black Dog.
You scoffed, rolling your eyes. Another lie. You thought to yourself. Due to Donna’s problems- Carmy had sworn to you he never drinks anything other then beer now and again, and only 2 and max 3 if it’s his birthday. He also claimed to hate bars, so why was he there- when there are fucking flood warnings it was pouring out so hard no less.
You put your phone down, crossing your arms and getting back into your current show you’d been hyperfixating on. A couple of hours later, just as your eyelids had started to feel heavy you heard a rattling at your window, causing you to jump and squeak in fear sitting up quickly.
Your dog sits up quickly, pinning his ears back and growling as you got up and heard a slurred “‘s me- f-fuckin freezin’ out ‘ere” before more tapping and you rushed over to the window to see Carmy there soaked like a wet cat with a tipped pink nose and bright wind nipped cheeks. You open up the window at record speed, helping him in
“What in the fuck are you doing here?!” You scolded, grabbing his shaking ice like fingers and bringing them to your lips, blowing your warm breath over them. You could literally hear his teeth chatter.
“Uh- sh-shit um. I c-couldn’t drive m’sloshed n’the L is closed cause the rain n’m too far from home to walk and I was thinkin’bout you” he manages to get out between quick panting, shivering breaths. You shook your head, dragging him to the bathroom and plugging the tub to start him a hot bath.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, Carmen? I don’t even know where to start” you said and he sighed, closing his eyes and he swayed a bit where he stood, grabbing onto the towel rack to steady himself.
“Uhhhh-“ he hiccups “actually ‘er like why did I do what I did?” He asked stupidly, drunkenly as you pour in epsom salt for his likely to be sore muscles tomorrow after running (and likely tripping and falling due to the tear in his knee of his jeans) in the pouring rain.
“Why the fuck we’re you drinking?” You asked, “arms up” you ordered and he held his arms over his head as you tug off his white shirt that was stuck to his body
“Cause Mikey killed ‘emself 2 years ago” he hiccuped again “and I was thinkin’bout him and then I thought about if he knew you and uh….” He trailed off watching as you delicately removed his Saint Anthony chain from around his neck, placing it on the counter.
“And what?” You asked, undoing the button on his jeans and he started to chuckle, shaking his head
“What was I saying?” He asked “your hands went around my neck  and then near my dick and I just… poof all my thoughts are gone” he said, giggling drunkenly which caused you to laugh at just how adorable he sounded, smiling and speaking about his thoughts so openly was a side you’d never seen of him before.
“I think it’s time for you to take a bath, because you’re gonna get hypothermia. I’m not touching you tonight, Carmy. Not like that” you told him and he pouted a bit as you tugged his wet jeans down his hips and helped him step out of them so he wouldn’t fall on his face and he huffed.
“I deserve it. I’m kinda surprised that you opened the window- you’re too good to me” he slurred as you helped him get lowered into the bath and he sighed in relief as the warm water covered his skin, sinking down up to his shoulders and closing his eyes. You gently brushed the wet hair from his eyes, strings of it sticking to his forehead that you carefully slicked back with your nails
“I know, but I missed you too much to ignore you”

My Masterlist

Ciao - Hello
Salve. Come posso aiutarti - Hello. How can I help you
Riconoscete questa donna - Do you recognize this woman
Era una cliente abituale di questo locale da circa un anno. Non la vedo da una settimana, però - She was a regular at this place for about a year. I haven't seen her in a week, though
Perché lo chiedi - Why do you ask
Lei è mia madre - She is my mother
Lei parlato molto di te - She talked about you a lot
Grazie per l'aiuto - Thanks for the help
Y/n's POV:
I stood in the hotel room with Kate. We all split into groups of two while we stayed at the hotel. I put the beanie on my head as Kate was finishing getting ready in the bathroom. We were going to go to that store that mom had gone to. Hopefully that cashier was there today, and I could ask her if she knew anything. "Are you ready to go?" I hear Kate ask as she exits the bathroom. I looked over at her. "Yeah." I say as I grabbed my bag from the end of the bed and headed to the door. Kate and I made our way to the lobby and saw that everyone, but Steve and Sam were all there. "Where's Sam and Steve?" Kate asked. "They'll be down in a second, Sam took forever to wake up apparently." Clint says. "Sounds about right." Peter says. A moment passes before both Sam and Steve walked down to the lobby. "Are we all ready to go?" Steve asked all of us. "Yeah, we're all ready." Yelena says. "Okay." Steve says. "The store is a five-minute walk from here, so let's head on over there." Sam says. We all leave the hotel and walked our way to the store. When we got inside, I noticed that it was a grocery store. The ten of us had all split up individually to see if we could spot anyone or anything. As I walked around, I noticed the woman who was on the video footage we saw. I went over to her. "Ciao." I say. She looked up at me. "Salve. Come posso aiutarti?" She asked me. I grabbed my phone and showed her the picture of my mom. "Riconoscete questa donna?" I asked. She looked at the photo and nodded her head. She looked back at me. "Era una cliente abituale di questo locale da circa un anno. Non la vedo da una settimana, però." She tells me. I let out a hum. "Perché lo chiedi?" She questioned. I paused for a second. Do I tell the truth or lie? "Lei è mia madre." I explained. The woman looked at me for a second. "Lei parlato molto di te." She tells me. I smiled slightly. "Grazie per l'aiuto." I say. She nodded her head and went back to work. I headed over to where everyone else was standing. I didn't even realize that they had been watching the interaction the whole time. "Didn't know you spoke Italian." Yelena says. I shrugged. "I speak a few different languages." I say. "Did you find anything out?" Cassie asked me. I nodded. "According to the worker, mom was a regular at this store for about a year, but she stopped showing up a week ago." I tell them. "Anything else you find out?" America asked me. "Apparently mom mentioned me a lot." I say. I see them all give me looks of sympathy. I just shook my head. "Did any of you find anything out?" I asked, trying to change the subject. "I found out what apartment building Wanda was staying at while she was here." Kamala says. "We can go and check it tomorrow. There might be more clues there if Wanda left anything there." Steve says. "Let's all head back to the hotel." Sam says. I nodded my head. I wanted nothing more than to go lay in the bed and just think everything over. The ten of us made our way back to the hotel. As we were walking down the road, my phone buzzed. I pulled it out of my pocket and unlocked it. I saw it was a message from Natasha. When I pulled up the text, I saw a picture of Aurora. I smiled at it. It was still early back in New York compared to here, but I was glad to see that she was awake and having a fun time while I was gone. I liked the photo before putting my phone back in my pocket. We all made it back to the hotel before going back to our rooms. I flopped onto the bed I had been using. "How do you feel after learning what you did?" Kate asked me. I let out a hum. "I'm not sure how to feel honestly." I say. "I can understand that." Kate says. "It makes me slightly happy that she still talks about me, but at what costs you know." I say. "I just want her to come back."

Midnight Strikes (Robert Sheehan RPF)
Word Count: 1,1 k
Warning: strong language
a/n: Just letting everyone who left me a request know, I'm working on them and thank you so much for all the lovely ideas <3
(Masterlist)
Tumblr media
I can't wait to get out of here, it's so fuckin hot!
Your boyfriend texted around seven. It was your one year anniversary, but he had to work. Of course you understood, his job was demanding, but he loved it and so did you. Robert was meant to be home by eight, so you had everything ready for the celebration.
There was a lasagna ready to go in the oven, homemade garlic bread, and cake for dessert. You prepared the bathroom with candles and a bath bomb so he could relax after dinner, the whole flat was spotless and you picked his favorite dress to wear.
Twenty minutes passed, you put your romantic dish in the oven and set a timer before heading to the bedroom to get ready. The dress was blue and looked like something Donna would wear in Mamma Mia, very light and flowy. The makeup you chose was very simple and discreet, and the hair was also not too extravagant. You even got a new set of lingerie matching the dress for the occasion.
Rob's gift was waiting for him on the sofa, a few books he'd been talking about in the last few months.
You waited until the lasagna was done and turned the oven off, leaving it in there so it would be nice and warm. You checked if the champagne you got for the celebration was chilled and set the table.
When it was all prepared, you looked at the time on your phone, it was 8:05. You grinned in anticipation, deciding where you wanted to sit to wait for your boyfriend who should be coming through the door very soon.
Unfortunately, that's not how it went... 8:05 turned into 8:45, turned into 9:20, turned into 10:00. By then the lasagna was for sure cold and it wasn't even time for dinner anymore.
You sent texts during this time, but there was no response, which elicited a mix of worry and anger stirring in your chest, adding to the hunger that was pretty bad already.
Finally, at 10:25 the door opened and Rob walked in looking like hell. He was sweaty (more than usual), his hair was messy, there was eyeliner smeared around his eyes and he grunted as he usually did when his back was in pain.
"So nice of you to join..." you said, looking up from your book
"Shit, I knew I was late but I didn't know it was that bad," he checked his phone. "I didn't even see it, I just ran as fast as I could when they said I could go home, the tube was packed."
"There's bath stuff in the bathroom, but the candles are probably all melted by now," you folded your arms, absolutely furious even if you knew it wasn't his fault.
Robert left his shoes by the door, walked up to the couch, and sat on the floor in front of you. He had that puppy look on his face, but didn't talk at first, knowing you probably had more to say.
"I worked on this shit all day for us to have a nice time and celebrate, by the time you're done with your shower and everything else we'll have an hour left in our anniversary at best!" Your voice cracked as you spilled the words. "That isn't fair, I know it was work and you didn't have a choice, I'm just frustrated! I already have to share you with the world, I can't even get a proper anniversary dinner."
He listened quietly as you let out your anger and on your own arrived to the conclusion that there was nothing he could've done to make things different if he wanted to keep his job. He then made sure you were done before taking your hands in his and kissing each knuckle.
"I understand how frustrating that is, I'm sorry things didn't work out."
"I know... I am too," you sighed, seeing him so calm kinda forced you to calm down as well, it was quite nice actually.
"If you wanna celebrate another day with something different, I get it. But if you'd like to try, I can shower really quickly and we can have our dinner. Tomorrow I have the day off and I'm not leaving your side. I'll even hold your hand as you go to the toilet."
You laughed, he just knew how to de-escalate the situation. He wasn't always like that, but the talent to make you no longer mad was definitely there.
Robert took a shower and changed into something nice, not a suit, but nice by his hippie standards. He even put on a scarf and fixed his hair to look just the way you like it.
"You look so handsome," you smiled, holding out the gift box for him. "I hope you like it."
He opened it and his eyes lit up. "Thank you, y/n! So comforting to know you're listening when I'm rambling about books and movies and shit," he chuckled. "Now it's my turn."
Rob opened his bag by the door and pulled out a plastic bag, not a very promising wrapping job, but when you opened it, you forgot all about that. Inside there was the white and blue coat Klaus wears for season two of Umbrella Academy. Every detail was perfect, even the embroidery work.
"Robbie! This is so beautiful, I can't believe you did this."
"You always mention how much you love these outfits so I had a replica made in your size," he grinned proudly. "I was between this and the black furry one from season one, but I'll get that one for your birthday."
You pulled him into a fierce hug, he really put so much care into it, he certainly looked forward to this night as much as you did. Suddenly, the time didn't matter anymore, all that mattered was that he was there.
"Thanks for being understanding today," Rob murmured, taking your hand as he happily ate his dinner. He was clearly starved from waiting so long.
"It wasn't your fault, don't worry about it."
"Hey, can I tell you a secret?" He asked with a little smirk.
"What?" You chuckled, half expecting some joke or gag, but he just took your hand and brought it to his lips again.
"It was past midnight when I asked you to be my girlfriend."
"What? No it wasn't!" You gasped.
He nodded as he chewed, completely sure of what he was saying. "I'm serious, my bedside clock was wrong, I remember cause I had to change it after I was late for work the next day. So technically, it's still our anniversary."
"Oh... happy anniversary then."
"Happy anniversary, love."

Jo knocked on Jax’s bedroom door, a small tote bag in her hand.
“Can I bother you?” Her voice wasn’t loud but neither a whisper either.
“Yea, come in.” Jax called out, clearly not eager to greet his older sister at his door. He clocked the bag in her hand immediately as she entered. “I thought I was supposed to be getting you something for graduation.” His smile was one that could earn him a punch to the face easily, and definitely has in the past.
Jo threw the tote onto his bed before leaning against his desk. “It’s just some things to keep you occupied during the ceremony tomorrow.”
Jax leaned over and grabbed the bag and looked through it. Mad libs, activity books, cards. His eyes looked up at Joanne. “I know I’m younger than you, but I’m not 5.”
Jo laughed before pushing off the desk she was leaning on and moved back towards the door. “Trust me, you’ll thank me tomorrow.” She went to close the door before peaking back in. “And I’m still expecting a graduation gift.”
_____________
Jax rolled over, his hand searching for something on his nightstand to tell him the time. 9:01.
“Fuuuuck.” He groaned before jumping out of bed and opening his bedroom door. His voice was calling out quickly. “Mom!” Silence. No one was home. He could have assumed that. The graduation started at 9, Gemma and Clay had probably left at 8, easily.
“Fuck.” Jax cursed again, thinking through what he was going to do. His bike was at Teller-Morrow, he was in the process of adjusting the suspension. Gemma and Clay probably took the escalade which left no way for him to get there.
His hands were quick to dial Opie, praying that he’d pick up this early. They were freshly 21 after all, so waking up before 1 in the afternoon was a rarity. But even though Jax might have started off his morning unlucky, things started to turn.
“Yea?” Opie answered, his voice groggy, probably just waking up.
“You wanna see Jo graduate?” Jax was multi-tasking as he spoke to Opie, moving around his room, picking up clothes from the ground looking for something presentable to wear to the graduation.
“What?” Opie perked up at that sentence, he might have been with Donna, loved her even, but a part of him would always be connected to Joanne Teller.
“I overslept, everyone’s gone, I got no ride and need to be at the Stockton Arena within the hour.” Jax threw his phone on the bed on speaker as he threw a flannel on.
“Alright, I’ll be at your place in 10.” Opie was doing the same thing as Jax now, scrambling to get ready.
“Aim for 5.” Jax said before hanging up and finishing getting ready. Throwing on cologne to cover whatever non-showered, stale cigarette smell he was giving off and then grabbing the black leather box that held the gift he had gotten his sister.
_______
Gemma looked over at the 5 empty seats to her right and then down at her watch. 9:35.
“They couldn’t be on time just this once.” She said under her breath to Clay.
“First, you drag me to this thing and now I gotta hear the complaints too.” Clay said, looking through the program booklet to occupy himself.
Gemma’s eyes rolled and before she could respond back to him, Bobby and Tig were making their way over to them, asking people to let them squeeze through as politely as possible for the two bikers.
“Hi, ‘scuse me, sorry, I love ya, congrats, ‘scuse me.” Tig said as he climbed over the last few people until he reached Clay who was at the end of the row.
“You’re late.” Clay gritted his teeth and spoke under his breath.
“Yea, Tig was indisposed.” Bobby spoke from behind Tig.
Gemma looked up and gave them both dirty looks before moving her legs over so they could take the seats next to them.
“She’s the one, Gem, tall, I’m talkin’ 5’11, easy, biiiiiiig rack.” Tig motioned to his chest to imitate breasts.
It earned a few dirty looks from the surrounding crowd who was trying to pay attention to the graduation.
“Just sit down.” Gemma waved them past.  Bobby plopped down next to Gemma and then Tig next to him.
“Did we miss it?” Tig asked, standing back up now looking at the group of graduates below him looking for Joanne. “Where is she? She decorate her cap with anything?” He pointed to his head as he looked through the rows for Joanne.
“Yea, she’s wearing red.” Clay sarcastically spoke.
Tig looked out and saw the sea full of graduates all in red caps and gowns and nodded before sitting down.
“You hear from Jax?” Bobby asked when he realized there were still empty seats.
“Yea, this morning when he was snoring.” Gemma said, staring at the Jumbotron waiting to see if her daughter popped up on the screen. Bobby snorted at Gemma’s answer.
“Who makes a graduation this early anyways.” Clay leaned over to Gemma.
Just as she was about to speak, Jax and Opie were right at the end of the row.
Opie was there, hair back in a bun, sporting a simple t-shirt and jeans, one hand had a graduation teddy bear in it and the other had a big bouquet of flowers.
Gemma was shocked not only to see Opie, but to see what he brought with him. Opie must have clocked it and spoke up. “Didn’t want to show up uninvited and empty handed, got some things at the stands outside.”
Gemma smiled, she was one of the few that could see Opie’s love for Jo over the years. “You can take Unser’s saved seat, don’t think the Chief woke up in time either.” Gemma moved her stare over to Jax. His hands moved up in innocence and his smile was growing.
“I need my beauty rest, what can I say.”
“Yea, save some for the rest of us you pretty motherfucker.” Tig smirked and greeted Jax as he made his way to the last two empty seats in the row.
Clay stared up at Opie, his brows furrowing, a little angry. The small bouquet of 10 flowers sat in his lap, his eyes moved to Opie’s bouquet, which held easily double the amount of flowers. Opie simply nodded and moved past him, making his way to the very last seat in the row.
“Did we miss it?” Jax asked leaning over to talk to his mom.
“No, apparently these things last hours. Not enough that they charge thousands in tuition but now they have to bore us to death for 4 hours.” She mumbled to her son who was taking out the handful of items Jo gifted him last night.
Bobby looked over at him with his face frowning in confusion until he realized what he was doing. He leaned over to whisper to Gemma. “Enjoy it while you can, not like your other kid is going to college.” He teased.
“You’re going outside the lines.” Tig leaned over and whispered to Jax.
“You’re crossing one.” Jax snapped backwards and pushed Tig away.
“Play nice children.” Bobby called down to them.
Time passed slowly, Clay managed to fall asleep, sunglasses on so no one really noticed. Gemma had contemplated moving to another seat in the arena while the other boys went back and forth but she powered through it.
“Bachelor of Arts? That’s Jo right? Business?” Jax leaned over and called out to Gemma.
“Yea, this is her.” Gemma stood up now, eager to see her daughter. There weren’t many moments in Jo’s life that she could count on her mom, she leaned more on her father and when he passed that void was never filled. Jax might have been the closest person Jo had from her family in her life but nothing could replace JT. But in this moment, Gemma was actually excited, and maybe one would even say proud. Jo knew it was probably more for Gemma than her but she’d accept it.
“Joanne Teller.” The announcer said over the microphone.
The whole row of them stood up and cheered.
Jax was practically frat boy howling, his voice was so loud that it would be a shock if half the arena didn’t hear him. Opie stood the most relaxed out of all of them, clapping but keeping his voice way lower than the rest of the crew.
Clay had clapped and whistled and Bobby matched him with his own whistle while Gemma clapped above her head.
“That’s it baby!!!!!” Tig yelled out as Joanne walked down the ramp and back to the hallway where the graduates all entered from.
Joanne looked up at her family and smiled, she was surprised to see everyone that came. She pointed towards the exit and mouthed a few words that no one really understood except Gemma.
“C’mon.” Gemma said, waving everyone back out on the other side of the row.
“Don’t we have to wait for them to throw up their hats and shit?” Jax frowned.
“You wanna wait for the 200 more kids that have to be announced?” Clay leaned over and asked Jax who turned to look at the large group of graduates that were left.
“Alright, yea.” He stepped out of the row behind Tig.
“Jo’s the one that mentioned it, she’s gonna meet us outside now.” Gemma said as the group of them trekked up the bleachers.
_________________
The Charming crew stood in front of the event center, near a fountain waiting for Jo to arrive except Opie, who had gone off to a kiosk close by to order a cup of coffee.
“They don’t make Irish coffees at graduation ceremonies, Winston.” Jo’s voice caused Opie to turn around quickly, coffee in one hand and graduation gifts in the other.
His smile grew as he saw her in her cap and gown, her one hand resting on her cap to balance it as she stood in front of him looking up.
“And I unfortunately didn’t sneak in any.” He stepped out of line so he was closer to the girl.
“I did.” She reached into her gown and into her dress pocket and pulled out a flask and poured it into his coffee cup before he could say another word.
“Well, uh, I’m driving so…” Opie extended his hand out, now offering the coffee to Jo who was getting red in embarrassment.
“Oh shit, I’m sorry I didn’t…” She began apologizing before Opie cut her off.
“Nah, don’t worry about it, truthfully it was just an excuse to get away from the group for a minute.” They both looked over to the group to see Tig staring at a statue of a woman very intently, Clay and Gemma arguing about something, Bobby downing a muffin from the other kiosk near them and Jax on the phone.
“Wait, driving? You drove here?” Jo said as she took in Opie’s words and her head snapped back to look at him.
“Uh,” Opie felt caught and didn’t know exactly what to say based on Jo’s tone.
“He overslept didn’t he?” She shook her head and looked back over at her younger brother. After a couple seconds she looked back at Opie, she wasn’t going to make him explain, he was a good friend not only to her brother but to her also.
“Those for me?” She grinned and nodded to the flowers and bear.
“Huh?” Opie fumbled, still a little nervous as a whole before looking down and coming to it. “Oh yea,” His hands extended forward and now the flowers and the bear were nestled in her arms. “Congratulations.”
“Thanks Ope,” Jo moved against his torso forcing an embrace on him that he was gladly willing to accept. “Glad you were here.”
The two of them walked over to everyone, Jo was showered with flowers and hugs and congratulations from everyone, even her mother who showed a rare act of appreciation towards her daughter.
“Got this for you.” Jax handed Joanne a black leather box.
She opened the box immediately and she felt her breath hitch.
“Took a piece of dad’s bike to get repurposed into a necklace. It’s not like expensive or anything but–”
“It’s perfect.” Jo cut him off, running a finger over the necklace.
The center of the necklace was the same teal blue as the bike, probably taken from a piece of the old gas tank, and what Jo assumed to be part of the old engine framed the outside of it.  There were small metal work details in it that framed the inside blue piece so perfectly. It was truly a piece of her dad with her on this special day.
“Jax this is,” Jo’s eyes widened as she shook her head. “I don’t know how I’ll ever top this.” She let out a laugh and looked at her younger brother.
“Well good thing I ain’t graduating college anytime soon.” He teased her. “Plus, everything you’ve done for me,” he shrugged, “I kinda owed you.”
Before either of them could continue their conversation, Gemma was interrupting them. It was divine timing and ironic how she knew the perfect time to interrupt.
“Alright, we’ll meet you back at the clubhouse, Bobby put together a little thing for you.” Gemma called out as she walked away with Clay, Bobby, and Tig.
Jax looked from Gemma back to Jo and changed the subject.
“Mom said you’re going home with Micky, so I’ll catch a ride back with them. Congrats!” He smiled at his sister and looked over at Opie, “and thanks, Ope!” Jax was talking as his legs sped up into a jog to catch up to the group, leaving Jo and Opie behind.
“I’ll, uh, let you ride back with Micky, see you back at the clubhouse.” Opie was about to walk away when Jo reached out and grabbed his arm.
“Micky actually,” Jo paused in her statement, embarrassed at what was about to come out of her mouth. “Micky isn’t here, we uh, broke up. But I didn’t tell anyone yet because well, you know how everyone gets.”
Opie wasn’t one to ask questions or pry, so he just simply nodded. “I parked around the corner, I’ll take you home so you can show up on your own, lessen the questions.” Opie said.
Jo let out a scoff, “That’ll never happen and you know it.”
Opie smiled to himself, because he knew it was true. Everyone at the clubhouse would ask questions no matter what. He went to say something to Jo, his head turning to look at her when he saw her holding out the teddy bear he had gotten her.
“This must’ve cost you a fortune, they always rip you off at these things.” She stared at the bear.
“I got a discount because of the lopsided eye.”
Jo laughed, “Gives him character. What should I name him?”
Opie looked at the bear and then at Jo and shrugged. No idea what to call the stuffed animal.
“Winnie. After the person who gifted him to me.” Jo beamed and held the bear out next to Opie.
“Not sure if I should be honored or offended.” Opie teased, pulling his one eye down to mimic the bear.
Jo pushed Opie, he might have towered over her, he always had and now that they were in their early 20’s nothing had changed, but she still was able to trip him up a bit which is when he let out a genuine laugh right before they approached the parking lot.
“$45 dollars for parking?!” Jo exclaimed looking at the sign at the entrance of the lot. “My graduation robbed you blind, I owe you.” Jo said to Opie. “Well Jax owes you more but I’ll collect for you and we can go out.” She teased.
He smiled and unlocked his truck for them both to get in, “Smart idea, look at that college degree paying off.”
“That was the first class I took, ‘how to ethically steal from your brother and reap the benefits with your friends.’”
Friends. It was one word but it gutted Opie. It shouldn’t have, he had Donna, but it did. Opie looked over at his passenger seat to see Jo, still in her gown but her cap now situated with the bear and assortment of flowers she received, her hand running over her hair to fix the flyaways and he thought that at least he got to be a part of her life. He’d take being her friend over nothing, especially if it meant getting to be a part of these big moments.

“Whose fabulous idea was it to throw this dinner?” Edmund grumbled, wrestling with the buttons of the wretched jerkin Susan had told him to wear. “I’d like to throw them a dinner in the royal dungeons.”
“It was yours, if I recall correctly.” Peter stood beside him, the perfect picture of composure. “Shall I warn the dungeon master of your impending arrival?”
“I merely suggested that relations with Calormen could be improved by allowing the opera tour to come through Narnia,” Edmund protested, still trying to get the buttons to cooperate. “Nowhere in there did I say anything about hosting a banquet in their honor, and certainly I didn’t say a thing about myself having to attend.”
Lucy laughed from her place on Edmund’s bed. “Ed, if you’re not going to go to the opera tomorrow, it’s all the more important that you attend the dinner.”
“Pete isn’t going tomorrow either,” Edmund said, with a perfect imitation of the pout his little sister used to sport when asked to do the dishes back home.
“And Pete’s going to dinner.”
Edmund frowned and did not deign to answer her, returning to the confounded jerkin.
“You know, in Calormen, the opera season is the height of court,” Lucy said, sliding off the bed to stand beside Peter. “Everything of note happens at the opera, all marriages arranged, alliances formed, grievances aired, it all happens at the opera.”
Edmund snorted. “The fact that the attendees don’t go to the opera to watch and listen to the opera itself should tell you something.”
“Oh, Edmund,” Lucy said with a sigh, shaking her head. “Have you no appreciation for the arts?”
“Now, now,” Peter stepped forward. “Ed is a great connoisseur of art.”
Lucy raised a skeptical eyebrow. “Oh, really?”
“Well, swordfighting is an art, is it not?”
The two burst into giggles, and Edmund scowled. “Shut up.”
“Ready?” Susan asked, floating into the room in the flowing, graceful way of hers. “They’ve just arrived.”
“Ready,” said both Peter and Lucy.
“If I have to be,” Edmund grumbled.
“You’d better be,” Susan said. “Because the director will be seated beside Peter, and the prima donna will be beside Edmund.”
“What is a ‘prima donna’, and why do I have to put up with it?” Edmund demanded.
“The prima donna is the main female singer in an opera,” Lucy said, clearly exasperated. “Honestly, Ed, do you never listen when I’m talking?”
Edmund opened his mouth, ready to defend himself when Susan cleared her throat. “We don’t have time for this. Now, smiles on.” Susan turned and walked out of the chamber, Peter and Lucy close on her heels.
“I’m not scared to meet the Calormens,” Edmund muttered to himself as he tried to multitask walking and trying to keep his jerkin from flapping like a flag in the wind. The small clasps slipped through his fingers, and he cursed. “I won a war and had to lead a country at the age of 10! Prideful divas don’t compare to the Witch.”
Edmund swallowed his pride and looked up, intending to ask one of his sisters to come to his aid when he saw he was alone in the corridor, save for a servant girl lingering at the end of the hall. Her plain, Narnian clothing and the jug of water she carried indicated her to be a servant, but the way she carried herself…
Heat bloomed in his cheeks. Had she overheard him?
He straightened his back. “Are the arrivals from Calormen waiting?” The woman’s eyes flicked up to Edmund’s crown with a little apprehension before she nodded. “Can you help me with this?” he asked. “I cannot get these blasted buttons to button.”
The woman didn’t say anything, but set her pitcher down on the nearest windowsill and came forward, dexterous fingers accomplishing what he couldn’t with ease and efficiency.
“Thank you.” Edmund straightened his jerkin, still feeling morbidly embarrassed. She was unfairly pretty and clearly new to Cair Paravel. He didn’t know her, he would’ve remembered her, for sure.  “Er…what’s your name?”
The woman blinked, momentarily meeting Edmund’s eyes with a startled expression. “Y/N,” she said in a mellifluous tone. Her eyes kept darting around, never staying long on Edmund or anything else. Was she uncomfortable? Or was he keeping her from something important?
If Susan were around, she would’ve ordered Edmund to dismiss the girl so she could carry out her duty, but he couldn’t squash the urge to talk to her more. “Have you ever been to Calormen, Y/N?”
“Yes, your majesty.” Her quiet voice was so endearing that Edmund couldn’t keep himself from smiling.
“What was it like there?”
She looked up, nervously pulling at her fingers. “Hot.”
Edmund laughed, and the smallest of smiles flitted across her lips. “Thanks again for your help.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “Um…as you were.” And before he could embarrass himself anymore, he took off.
Hopefully the next time he ran into Y/N, he was composed and in possession of the wit he was so famous for.
He passed the horrid purple curtains Susan insisted be hung over the windows of the banquet hall, trying to get himself back under control before he joined his siblings.
“Ah, Edmund,” Susan said, grabbing Edmund’s arm and pulling him forward towards the group of dark-skinned people dressed in the odd fashion of Calormen. “This is Lalnon, the esteemed director of the show Lucy and I will see tomorrow evening.” Susan indicated the man in the front who wore a glittery coat and upturned shoes.
“It’s wonderful to meet you,” Edmund said, forcing a smile and extending a hand to the director. “My royal sisters cannot wait to see the show, they’ve been talking about it nonstop.”
“Thank you,” the director said in a heavy Calormen accent before pushing past Edmund’s hand and walking over to the table, clearly done with the conversation.
Edmund tried not to roll his eyes as he turned back to the others in the group. Why did the creative types have to be so sullen and withdrawn? If Edmund had to be here and be polite, the least the guests could do was acknowledge how very polite he was being.
Another Calormen man stepped forward with a bow. “I’m Ishdu, I’m the conductor. I lead the orchestra and instruct the singers.”
The siblings all nodded with regal airs, offering smiles.
The conductor brought forward each member of the crowd, outlining their names and their role in the show. Instead of following the director’s lead and seating themselves at the table, they awkwardly stayed standing, bumping into each other to allow certain members to the front of the group for their moment of recognition.
Edmund bit the inside of his cheek, wishing he could be anywhere other than here. Could he come up with some sort of excuse that the Calormens and his siblings would believe?
Ishdu, who was still talking, gestured to the group with a grander flourish than he’d yet used. “I’m also delighted to introduce our prima donna.”
Edmund steeled himself, trying to prepare himself for some overweight, gaudy woman to come trotting through the crowd to receive her demanded praise. But when the crowd parted, there was no such woman.
Edmund’s mouth fell open as none other than Y/N, the woman who’d helped him with his buttons, came forward and swept into a deep curtsy. “Your majesties.”
“You’re the prima donna?” Edmund asked before he could help himself, earning a glare from Susan.
For a split second, a shy smile flashed on Y/N’s face, but it quickly left as she said: “Yes, your majesty.”
How could she be from Calormen? Why was she wearing Narnian fashion when everyone else in her group wore fashion from their own country? And what had she been doing in the corridor with a water jug? And why had she helped him with his buttons instead of announcing herself?
Edmund tried to form words, but she was scrambling his brains, even though she was doing nothing but shifting, looking as uncomfortable as he felt.
Shooting an odd look at her brother, Lucy stepped forward to rescue the situation. “Y/N, we’re so glad you’re here, let me show you where you’ll be sitting.”
With a glance at Edmund, Y/N followed his sister further into the room, smiling to humor his sister’s conversation, leading the other performers towards the banquet table.
Susan’s hand clamped down on Edmund’s arm, pulling him towards her and Peter. “What was that?” she hissed. “That was not being hospitable!”
Edmund buried his face in his hands, wishing the ground would swallow him whole. “I mistook her for a servant.” He half-heartedly hoped they wouldn’t hear him, but his brother’s guffaw quickly dashed that sentiment.
“You did what?!” Susan almost shrieked.
“What was I supposed to think? She was in the corridor, wearing Narnian clothes and carrying a pitcher of water!”
“What did you say to her?”
“I asked her to help me with my buttons,” Edmund mumbled, causing Peter to laugh harder.
“What are you, twelve?” Susan snapped before massaging her temples. “You’d better do some damage control during dinner, before it’s irreparable!” With that, Susan walked in her floating way over to the banquet table to take her seat.
Edmund sent his older brother a hopeless look. “How on earth can I fix this?”
Peter clapped a hand on Edmund’s shoulder. “You’re the witty one, I’m sure you can come up with something.” Then Peter went to sit beside Lalnon, the director, leaving Edmund to trail behind him.
Y/N was already seated, with her hand neatly folded in her lap on top of her napkin. The glimpse of her delicate fingers served as a reminder of how easily and contentedly she’d helped him.
He felt hot as he finally took his seat beside her. “Y/N,” he immediately began, “allow me to extend my sincerest apologies for my mistake.”
“Unnecessary.” Y/N took a dainty sip from her wine goblet, but the way she avoided his gaze made him nervous.
“It is necessary. I swear, I never meant to offend you in any way.”
“No offense,” Y/N promised.
Edmund winced. “Not even when I called you a prideful diva?”
She didn’t answer, leaving Edmund to wonder if she really was offended or just didn’t feel like talking. But the silence that stretched on made Edmund’s discomfort rise, and he refused to let it go on. “So…” he said, searching for something, anything to say, “I hear Calormen is hot.”
The tiniest of chuckles broke through Y/N’s lips, but she still didn’t say anything.
“Why were you in that hallway?” he asked.
“Lalnon insisted he be allowed to wash his feet before setting foot in the banquet hall, and the servants looked frazzled already.”
Edmund cast a glance in the director’s direction just in time to see him sniff the bite of food on his fork and then promptly set the fork down on the plate. “But you’re one of the guests of honor. Why would you risk missing an introduction with the kings and queens?” Edmund asked, finding it hard to believe that someone as beautiful as her would prefer to notice than to be noticed.
“As it turns out, I got to meet one of the kings anyways,” Y/N said with a sideways smile. “I even got to help him with his buttons.”
He gaped at her.  “Er…yes, well, I guess you did, didn’t you?” She turned back to her meal, but Edmund had lost all interest in eating. Instead, he propped his arm up on the table and rested his chin on his hand. “How long have you been performing?”
“I’ve been the prima donna for a year and a half, your majesty, but I’ve been a part of the opera company for as long as I can remember.”
“What does it mean to be a prima donna?” He remembered what Lucy’s answer was, but he wanted to hear it from Y/N.
Y/N lowered her fork. “Being a prima donna means the primary female roles fall to me.”
“That’s quite the privilege,” said Edmund, wondering what it must feel like to know that she would always have the opportunity for center stage.
“And quite the responsibility, your majesty.”
Edmund furrowed his brows. “Why’s that?”
“If a show goes poorly, there’s only so many ways to split the blame.”
“But that doesn’t make sense. Shouldn’t more blame fall on the writer rather than the prima donna?”
“Well, sure, but when the writer and the prima donna are the same, it gets complicated.”
It took a moment for Edmund to understand what she was saying. “Wait, you write the operas too?”
Y/N nodded.
“Did you write the opera you’re performing tomorrow night?”
Y/N nodded again.
Her shyness endeared her to him. All he wanted was for her to talk, to share more of herself with him, but she wasn’t. “What is it about?”
“Love,” Y/N said, and the spark in her eyes made Edmund go a bit speechless. “Most powerful thing ever.”
Edmund felt his heart bounce in his chest, as if it was reminding him of its presence. “L-love?” Edmund stammered.
She nodded, and her eyes went faraway. “The opera is a story of a young man and woman who do whatever they can to be together.” Her distant smile was dazzling. “Their parents don’t approve because the young woman is a priestess-in-training at the temple of Tash, and priestesses swear never to marry.” An adorable crinkle appeared between her eyebrows. “So the young man’s father sneaks a venomous snake into a bouquet of flowers and gives it to the young woman, pretending it’s from her lover. The snake bites her, and she dies, leaving the young man heartbroken…”
Y/N trailed off, lowering her eyes to the napkin in her lap. “Sorry,” she said with a bashful chuckle, “I just told you the whole plot for act one when you probably have zero interest.”
Edmund stared at her, certain she’d just said more words than all her previous words combined. “No, don’t apologize.” He took a breath. “You love what you do.”
“Is it that obvious?”
Edmund nodded.
“Sorry,” Y/N said again, ducking her head.
“No, don’t apologize, it’s a good thing. In fact, I envy you.”
Y/N tilted her head, studying Edmund in a way that made him feel exposed. “Does the king of Narnia feel wasted in the life he’s in?”
Edmund blinked, unsure how to answer such a question. “He feels wasted at big parties where he’s expected to be charming,” Edmund mumbled.
Y/N’s chuckle made Edmund smile. “Well, hopefully, you won’t feel that way at the opera tomorrow,” she said, picking up her fork once again.
Lucy, sitting across from Y/N, looked up. “Oh, no, Ed’s not–” Lucy started to say, but Edmund kicked her under the table.
“I’m sure I won’t,” Edmund said with a smile.
Lucy looked confused. “But you said–”
Edmund stomped square on her toes, and Lucy let out a little yelp. “I will be at the opera,” Edmund said slowly, hitting every syllable as he turned back to Y/N.
He’d only been trying to make sure Lucy got the point, but Y/N’s face broke into the biggest smile he’d seen from her all evening. “Yeah? You’ll be there?”
Edmund smiled back. “Yeah, I will. With flowers.”

Road to 4☆TOWN
part 10 | part 11 | part 12 | part 13 | part 14 | part 15 | part 16
Aaron Z danced in front of the mirror as he worked on the choreography for their title song, Taeyoung attempting to follow along behind him.
“You know, I used to think it was kind of cheap that they had us writing most of the songs and doing the choreography ourselves, but now I’m thanking them.” T said with a smirk as he watched Z dance.
Jesse chuckled. “Is this why you didn’t want to help him choreograph?”
“Well, it’s half the reason.” T admitted. “I guess you’ve forgotten how hopeless I was with learning the steps to the other song.”
“Oh, come on. You weren’t that bad.” Robaire nudged him. “In fact, after we cleaned it up, you looked really good.”
T paused. “…really?”
“Yeah.” Robaire nodded sincerely. “Honestly, if I hadn’t literally seen you struggle, I would’ve never guessed you weren’t a confident dancer.”
“It’s not so much the dancing, it’s all those steps you have to learn and remember. And we have to be in sync.” T sighed. “Dancing’s not like math. Math is easy. You learn it once, you’ve learned it a bunch of times, just in a different way.”
Jesse narrowed his eyes. “Are you seriously trying to tell me that you think math is easy but you’re worried about dancing?”
Across the room, Z cheered excitedly. “YES!” He spun around. “Tae, did you just see that?”
Taeyoung looked him up and down. “You mean that really complicated thing you just did with your whole body? No.”
Z scoffed and rolled his eyes. “Jesse, can you play the pre-chorus again?”
“Yeah, sure.” Jesse picked up his guitar. “Full speed or a little slower?”
“Tad bit slower just so some people can keep up.” Z shot Taeyoung a playful glare.
Jesse counted him in, and they all watched as Z skillfully moved to the music.
“Oh my gosh, are you trying to kill me?!” T shouted across the room.
Z looked deflated. “Was it really that bad?”
“C’mon, Z, you know he’s really insecure about his dancing.” Robaire said as he patted T on the back.
“Also, did you not just see what you did?” Jesse raised an eyebrow. “Don’t get me wrong, it was awesome, but it still looks pretty complicated.”
“Oh come on, it’s so simple.” Z rolled his eyes. “It’s a point, swing, kick, step, turn, back, stir the porridge, snap, step, snap…”
“Did he just say stir the porridge?” Robaire furrowed his brow.
T looked up. “Oh good, you heard it, too. I thought I’d finally cracked.”
“…into a ball change, quick pause, hit the knee, and throw your arms.” Z finally finished. “See? Easy.”
Everyone stared at him silently.
“Okay, now I get it.” Taeyoung nodded.
“WHAT?!”
“C’mon you know I’m a visual learner.” Taeyoung shrugged nonchalantly. “Besides, it really isn’t that complicated. Wanna run it again at top speed, no music?”
“Yeah, if you think you can keep up.” Z smirked.
“Hmmm, I actually like this.” Robaire grinned and leaned back. “For once I get to sit back and relax and not have to be the one to lead everything.”
“So you’re gonna be okay when they have to teach you the whole dance tomorrow?” Jesse asked.
Robaire was quiet for a moment before groaning and getting up.
Jesse snorted. “Show off.”
“More like prima-donna.” T chimed in.
“What’d you guys say?”
“Nothing.”
———
Also everyone should check out “Juliette” by SHINee because it’s totally not why I named 4☆TOWN’s debut song “Romeo” and I definitely didn’t reference the choreography here (she said sarcastically)

Coming out
Ransom Drysdale x daughter!reader lesbian!reader
Summary: Jacob finds out your gay, and decides to spill it to the whole family at dinner.
Warning ⚠️: Please be aware that this contains forced coming out, and the use of the F slur. I monetize it, and blurb the word so it’s not technically there but it’s obvious what the word was. IF THIS TRIGGERS YOU PLEASE DONT READ!!!
———————————————————————
"How about we go to an early diner, then the 5 o'clock showing?" Lily offered. I was laying on my bed while on the phone.
"That should work, you know I'm always free."
"Will your dad know where you are?" She asked making me role my eyes.
"I'll tell him I'm meeting some friends." My dad was hardly ever home with me anyways.
"You know at some point you will have to tell him right?" She asked making me sigh. I could not for the life of me figure out how he would react if I came out to him. He was an asshole, and certain parts of the family definitely would not support, but at the same time we hardly ever stuck around for the political argument.
"I will, but I've told you about my family. I just want to wait until I have a backup plan. We graduate in a year anyways. Then I'll take you far far away and treat you like a queen." I explained, thinking about what our life could be after high school.
"You already treat me like one." She chuckled. "And you know I will support you with whenever you decide to."
"I'm gonna go let my dad know I'm leaving then I'll be over to pick you up. Sound good?" She hummed in agreement and we both said goodbye before hanging up. I pulled some shoes on, and made sure I looked presentable before heading downstairs. I could hear my dad moving around in the kitchen as I pulled in a light sweater.
"Dad, I'm hanging out with some friends tonight." I called out walking towards the door.
"No your not!" He called back making me freeze. I turned around to see him standing in the doorway, leaning against it.
"Why?"
"Family dinner tonight." He explained making me role my eyes.
"Do I really have to go? The only people I talk to are you and great grandpa, and I see you both all the time."
"Don't be dramatic. I'm sure you talk to the rest of them." He said rolling his eyes.
"Oh really? Grandma and grandpa barely tolerate me, Donna, Walt, and Jacob hate me, Joni does that weird mix of trying to be a mother figure and guilt tripping me, and Meg hates me for the simple fact of being your daughter. The only other person who's sort of ok is Marta, but she doesn't work tonight." I counted each person on my fingers as I spoke making him chuckle and shake his head.
"You know there will be a fight and we will leave early, and nothing is happening tomorrow. Just go out with your friends after diner." He explained, waving his hand as though say that's the end of it.
I sighed but pulled my phone out send a text to Lily letting her know what happened. She agreed to meet me latter tonight, saying that there is a latter showing of the movie we want to see.
———————
"The favorite great grandchild is here!" I called out as we walked into the house. I could hear a few groans from the other room, and as I pulled my jacket off some walked over to greet us.
"Nice to see you Ransom." My great grandfather said greeting my dad. "And hello dear!" He said walking over to me, giving me a side hug. "We gonna play a game of Go later?"
"Only if you want to be beat old man."
"Oh! We will see about that!" He said chuckling as we made our way towards the main room. I could hear people arguing, so my dad must be in there already.
No one paid me any attention as I sat down next to my dad. Meg was practically screaming at my dad while he just sat there smirking.
"Meg, please sit down, Ransom, do you really need to start this already?" My grandmother finally said, trying to calm everyone.
"I didn't do anything! Just sat down." My dad claimed throwing his arms up. I chuckled at all the commotion, knowing damn well that my dad had said something to piss Meg off.
"What are you laughing at f&$#*" I felt everyone in the room freeze when they heard that. I turned my head slowly to the side to see Jacob looking up at me.
"W-what?" I whispered, still in shock of what happened.
"You heard exactly what is said. I asked what you were laughing at f&$#*" He stated.
"Jacob what the hell?!" Meg asked, all her anger from a moment pointed at him now.
"What?! It's true, I saw her kissing some girl at the park the other day."
"Come on." My dad mumbled grabbing me by the arm and pulling me to my feet.
"Ransom just wait a moment, give Jacob a chance to explain himself. I'm sure-"
"Walt, if I 'give him a mom to explain himself' I will end up punching a child." He snapped turning to look at Walt.
"I mean, give him the benefit of the doubt. She shouldn't hide stuff like that, and F&$-"
"If you say, that GOD DAMN WORD ABOUT MY DAUGHTER AGAIN YOU WILL REGRET IT!" He yelled stepping closer to Walt. "And wether she's gay or not, it's non of your fucking business. She's 17, almost an adult, and can make her own decisions. Also, if she likes girls, I get it. I like pussy to. Now we are gonna leave, and if I find out you, your wife, or your son try to contact her, you will be sorry." He took a step away from Walt so he could look at the rest of them. "If any of you contact her before she's ready, you will be sorry."
Once he was done he stormed off towards the door and I followed behind. He only stoped to let me put my jacket on, and as I did my great grandfather squeezed my shoulder a bit. "Have a good night dear." He whispered before going back to the rest of the family.
The car ride home was silent, and I had chosen to sit in the back so I wouldn't have to look my dad in the face. His hands were tightly gripping the steering wheel, and he was driving significantly over the speed limit. Once him he didn't say a word to me or wait for me before heading inside. I stayed in the car for a moment, laying my head on the seat in front of me. Why, out of everyone did it have to be Jacob who saw me with Lily?
After almost 10 minutes I made my way into the house. Sad was sitting on the couch, and I tried to sneak past him but he heard me anyways. "Y/n, come here please." He said the moment my foot touched one of the stairs.
Silently I made my way over to the couch, and sat down. Nether of us spoke for a few moments.
"Was Jacob telling the truth?" He asked finally looking over at me. I felt like I was going to die right then and there, I didn't want to tell him, but I couldn't lie at this point ether.
"Ya, he was." I whispered.
"Do you have a girlfriend?"
"Yep,"
"That's who you've been hanging out with?"
"Ya."
"How long have you known?"
"I don't know." I sighed, getting a bit irritated. “Some time in middle school maybe.” He was silent for a few minutes, witch just caused my anxiety to worsen.
“You know I cried when I first held you.” I looked over at him surprised, I had never seen him cry. “I was 16 and Terrified, your mother planed to move away within days after you were born. I was so scared I wouldn’t be a good dad, that I would fuck you up. But t he moment I held you in my arms I knew i loved more then every member of our fucked up family combined.” He pauses for a second, reaching up to wipe away the tear that had somehow escaped.
“I’m sorry that Jacob did that. I plan to try and talk with Walt and Donna, he had no right to act like that.”
“Don’t, you know it will only lead to more drama.” I said. “So your not mad I didn’t tell you?”
“Of course not, that was your choice on when that was supposed to come out.” He explained, wrapping an arm around me. “Now, was that friend you were going to hang out with the girl?”
I smiled a bit, glad to know he really didn’t seem to care. “Ya, we were gonna see a movie.”
“Your welcome to go now, I’m sure being with her is a bit more relaxing then being with me.” He smiled a bit before standing up. My dad was almost never soft like that, and decided to do my best to remember that smile.
“Thank you so much.” I said, a real smile on my face.
“You’ll have to bring her around some time. Don’t think she won’t still get the talk like with any boys you would have brought home. What’s her name anyways?”
“Lily.” I said pulling my phone out to send her a quick message.
“Wait your friend lily? The one that you stay over at her house all the time?”
“I’ve got to go dad, I’ll let you know when I’m home.” I said running out the door. I could here him telling for me but I just chuckled as I drove away. I guess I won’t be having anymore ‘sleep overs’ with Lily.

“Would it be a miracle that people were actually careful and safe?” Gabe says, walking into the stations kitchen.
“One could only dream.” Cas says.
“Who’s turn is it for making lunch?”
“It’s either the father or the son.” Michael says.
“It’s my turn for lunch nimrod.” Dean says, playfully getting Gabe in  playful chock hold while rubbing his knocks on his head.
Gabe struggles to get out of the Winchester’s grip.
Dean let go with little protest.
“He’s the one that did the father and son crack.” Gabe whined.
“Yeah but Dean knows not to mess with me.”
“You are just as bad as Sam with the pranks.”
“How is little bro by the way?” Gabe asks.
“He’s good, won his first case at a firm downtown. Can’t remember the name of it. And he and Jess are actually getting married by the end of this year.”
“Oh it’s about time that kid popped the question.” Michael says.
“Yeah, he and Jess are coming down for Thanksgiving, they’ll meet Y/N…”
“Have you ever met Y/N’s family yet?”
“She doesn’t talk about her family much. I don’t push her if she’s not comfortable with it.”
The stations alarm goes off.
“Station 51, rollover accident…” The dispatcher giving the location as the station jumped into action.
They got to the location, on the winding dirt road in the mountains outside of LA. Seeing the car that rolled over the guard rail and down the slope.
“What do we got?” John asked the other station that responded.
The captain wearing a big white 20 on his helmet.
“Rollover, driver’s unconscious and we don’t know his condition.”
“I’ll send my paramedics on it.”
Dean and Cas getting their supplies and rushing to the car.
They recorded his vitals on their notepads.
“Cas go relay it to Rampart, I’ll stay here with him.”
“Got it.”
“Rampart squad 51. Rampart this is squad five one.”
Bobby happened to be by the radio.
“Go ahead 51.”
“Rampart, we have a rollover accident, the victim is trapped in the car. Vitals are, BP 120 over 79, pulse rate 78. Pupils dilated and sluggish.”
“Can you get the victim out without using the jaws?”
“Negative Rampart, driver side door is jammed.”
“Then start an IV, just have some normal saline to keep him hydrated. Can’t risk a head injury going unnoticed. Follow protocol, and we’ll be waiting for you.”
“10-4 Rampart.”
A little over a half hour passed and they managed to get the victim out of the car and in an ambulance and is on the way to the hospital.
Cas and Dean were packing up the squad.
“Shit, forgot the drug box by the car, I’ll be right back.” Dean says.
“’kay.”
Dean jogged down the hill to the car to pick up the drug box when he heard a rattle.
His heart sank.
Where was it?
It wasn’t until he saw the danger noodle jump at the moment he picked up the drug box, biting down on his arm. Then latching on.
Dean managed to calmly grab the snake by the head, forcing it’s mouth open. Getting it to release him and he threw the snake far.
He grabbed his radio.
“Station 51, it’s Dean. I just got bit by a rattlesnake.”
He quickly worked his belt off his waist to make himself a tourniquet.
“Gabe, Kevin, get down there now!” John ordered.
They hurried down the hill to Dean’s aid.
 Earlier that day…
“Alright that’s the last of them.” Y/N says to herself as she got all settled in Dean’s house.
They had just recently took things to the next level and she has moved in with him. She was off work taking the time to finish settling in. But Dean’s 24 hour shift just started, so Dean was away at work, saving people.
“Now, a girls night…er, day.” She says, knowing who to call to hang out with for the day.
She pulls out her phone, calling up a few girls she knows and knows they’re off.
“Hey Donna, you up for a girls night?”
“Oh hell ya girlfriend, who’s all gonna be there?”
“Well, you, me, Rowena the overnight RN, Jody. I want to invite Charlie, a friend of Dean’s but I think she’s working.”
“Girl, I can’t wait! You want me to meet you at your place or Dean’s?”
“I just finished moving in with Dean, I’m at Dean’s. You can meet me at Dean’s.” She explained.
“Oh, ho-ho-ho, girl, we need to catch up!”
The girl was full of energy and Y/N could feel it through the phone.
“Yes we do, see you here in a few, and I’ll call the others.” She says, hanging up.
The doorbell rang hours later calling the girls. She opens the door.
“Hi!” Donna cheers, holding two cases of beer.
“You know how to party, Charlie’s off today she’s on her way with some wine as well.” Y/N says letting her in. Closing the door behind her.
“Oh, I like her already.”
“Jody got caught up with a Drunk Driver and won’t make it. But Rowena is coming so it’s just us four.”
“Still a good girls night, so what else are we doing tonight?”
“Probably catch up a bit, binge some Netflix shows. The Witcher season 2 is coming out soon and I want to rewatch that.”
“Oh, Geralt can hunt me down any day.”
“You do realize the man is hundreds of years old?”
“Yeah, but Henry Cavil isn’t.” she winks.
Y/N rolls her eyes with a giggle.
The doorbell rang shortly after revealing Rowena. And moments later, Charlie.
“You two are so going to get married.” Donna says, downing her second bottle of beer.
“He really is, really sweet, kind and the perfect kind of guy for me. He knows my schedule. And I know his. We both were scared the hours of our work would mess things up. But with how many times the man gets hurt on the job while I’m working I am always assuming he’s purposely getting hurt just so he can see me at work.”
Charlie giggling. “I see that being a thing he does.”
Rowena sipping away at the red wine Charlie brought.
“Ro, how are things with you girl?” Y/N asked.
“Oh, you know. Saving people, taking names…”
“She’s in love.” Donna deadpans.
Rowena rolls her eyes with a  smirk.
Y/N gasps. “What’s his name?”
“His name is Arthur Ketch, he the neurologist up on Fourth Floor. He works under Singer.”
“Oh I know of him, I mean, Bobby is planning on retiring and isn’t Ketch supposed to take his place?”
Rowena nods with a hum. Still having a playful smirk on her face.
“Oh you are so in love with him.” Y/N says with a smile.
“He may have taken me out on a date a few days ago and we have another date tomorrow night.”
“Ro, I’m so happy for you!”
“Thank you sweetie, and I’m happy for you and Dean, don’t let that one go darling.”
“I don’t see that happening, just as long he stays safe on a job. I’m worried of him getting seriously hurt on the job. I mean that virus a year ago, that really scared me. I thought I was gonna lose him.”
The girls nod, understanding.
“Anyone up for some hot guys and monsters!” Donna says, entering the room with a glass generously full of red wine.
“Girl, you’re gonna regret the headache the next day.”
“I’m off work tomorrow, so if I get a migraine I’m good!” she says chuckling.
The girls rolling their eyes at their friend.
“Rowena, would you be able to drive her home?”
“Yes, she’s at least on the way home for me.”
“Thank you, last thing I want is to give poor Jody another drunk to worry about.”
“At least I’m the fun kind of drunk.” Donna says, getting the Witcher on Y/N’s TV screen.
 “Ro, drive safe!”
“Will do sweetie, have a good rest of your night!” Rowena says, escorting a silly drunk Donna to her car.
“I’ll drive her car home tomorrow.” Y/N offers.
“Will do darling, goodnight!”
“Night!”
“Y/N that was the most fun I’ve had, never thought of you to be the nerdy type.”
“Oh, I’m a nerd in disguise if anything.” Y/N winks.
“Ugh, why are you straight!”
“Not sure.”
Y/N’s pocket happens to vibrate at that moment.
“Hello?”
“Y/N?” Hearing Dr. Kline’s voice on the other end.
“What’s up Jack?”
“It’s Dean, he’s been bit by a rattlesnake, he’s on his way in on the top of Engine 51.”
“I’m on my way.” Y/N says, not hesitating grabbing her keys to her car. Hanging up the phone quickly from him.
“I’m going with you sweetie.” Charlie says, following y/n to her car.
Turning the keys she turns on her emergency flashers and speeds her way to Rampart hospital.
“Engine 51, what are the patients vitals?” Jack asks.
Dean, takes his own pulse, his own blood pressure. All while Cas drove the squad ahead of the engine.
“Pulse rate, 95. O2 Sat, 98, Respiration 18, BP 120 over 65.”
“Dispatch relay to Engine 51 to start IV using Ringers Lactate.” Jack asks.
“Engine 51, Rampart advises start IV using Ringers Lactate.”
“10-4” Gabe says over the radio.
Dean having heard the radio begins the process to start an IV.
“There goes Engine 51!” Charlie shouts, while Y/N sat at the red light. Seeing the engine tear through the intersection.
Her light happened to turn green for her.
“Hold on.” Y/N says. As she starts pressing on the gas pedal slowly pushing it to the floor. Her tires squealing.
Gabe looked up hearing tires. Looking over the edge, he sees a familiar car.
“Oh shit, his girl is right behind us.” He says.
Dean chuckled. “And I’m the worry wort.”
“Engine 51, Rampart is requesting an update.”
“Relay to Rampart, patient is starting to experience numbness around the mouth, and he’s drowsy.” Dean says on the radio.
“Engine 51 you’re breaking up, please repeat.”
John grabbed the radio.
“Relay to Rampart, Patient is started to experience numbness around the mouth and he’s drowsy.”
“Roger that.” Dispatch says.
“Venom sounded like it hit a vein.” Jack says.
“Y/N’s gonna be so worried.” Meg says. Standing next to Bobby and Jack at the nurses station.
The squad, the engine pulled into the emergency entrance. Y/N pulled into the parking lot near the emergency entrance, finding a spot quickly. She quickly parked it, turned off the car. Jumping out, locking the car. Charlie staying close to her.
Meg stayed by the door, waiting for Y/N and Charlie.
“How’s he doing so far?” Y/N asked.
“We started a skin test with the antivenom. Hopefully he doesn’t have a reaction, that way we can start treatment right away.” Jack says.
“How long do we have to wait?” Y/N asked.
“20 Minutes.”
Y/N and the rest of the members of station 51 nodded, understanding.
“Let’s go wait guys.” Charlie suggested.
Everyone left the room, trying to keep their hopes high despite their shoulders slumped.
As the night came to a close, and he didn’t have a reaction to the antivenom skin test and he has been laying, sound asleep in his room as the antivenom worked it’s magic on him.
Y/N laid in his bed with him, curled into his side. Her head on his chest, listening to the calming rhythm of Dean’s heartbeat.
Dean began to stir awake, feeling a warmth at his side. Waking up a bit more he sees his favorite girl in his life laying at his side.
His arm came up around her, holding her close. Placing a loving sweet kiss atop her head as he fell back asleep, letting the rest and medicine work it’s magic on him.
 The next day…
Y/N arrived on time to the hospital to pick up Dean, filling out his discharge papers another patient was being brought in.
“Who’s that?” Dean asks.
“Jack’s dad, he never talks about him.”
“Why is that?”
Jack happened behind them.
“I was adopted, he gave me up when I was, like 5.”
“Jackie, son how are you?” the man asks from the bed.
“You don’t call me son.”
“Since when can a father—”
“You may be my father by blood. But not a true father.”
“What did you expect me to hold your hand? Kiss your booboo’s when you got hurt like some sort of pansy?”
“Oh now I see why.” Dean mutters in Y/N’s ear.
“How long is he gonna be here anyway?” Jack asks the medics that brought him in.
“His cardiologist what’s him to have a pacemaker in today. So he’s gonna be here for a bit.”
Jack groans under his breath.
“I’ll hand him over to someone else?”
“Why do you suck ass?” His father asks.
“Okay, listen here dude.” Y/N steps in.
“Y/N, please—” Jack says.
“No, you can either treat the staff of Rampart emergency with respect or we can and will kick you out for your hostility.” She says.
He shrunk in his bed.
“Will you be on your best behavior or will I have to send you to a different hospital?” she asks.
“I’ll be on my best behavior.”
“Good. And if I hear your antagonizing him, or any more of our staff we will transfer you. And you won’t be welcome here again.”
“Understood.”
“Good.” She says, storming out of the hospital.
“Don’t piss her off, can anyone remind of that?” Dean asks jokingly as he follows her out.
 Later on that day…
“Dean, babe, I’m gonna go do some arrands really quick.”
“Alright be safe sweetheart.”
She goes to the living room, where he sat watching Netflix, giving him a quick kiss on his lips. But Dean quickly places a hand on her cheek deepening the kiss. Clearly wanting more.
“Babe, maybe tonight. But I need to head out to stay ahead of traffic.”
“Fine, drive safe baby.”
“Always do!”
“Says the crazy girlfriend chasing a fire engine!”
“I’m not that crazy!” She laughed.
Dean chuckled as he heard her laugh, closing the door behind her.
She pushed her cart around Target getting not only food, but some cute lingerie for that night. Even grabbing Dean something from Spencer’s for them to try in bed later.
She felt the ground tremble slightly. The hairs on her arms stood up on end.
“No not now.” She mutters.
Without warning, the ground shook violently, taking her and other shoppers to the floor. The power going out, items being thrown on the floor. The lights swinging wildly, ceiling tiles falling. They were having a bad earthquake. And she was smacked in the middle of LA, in a multilevel mall.
Meanwhile Dean back at home had just turned off the oven having cooked himself some pizza for lunch after noticing Y/N having ate already.
He heart he windows vibrate, feeling the ground tremble slightly. He stood in the kitchen still yet alert.
When the ground gave way again to another violent shake, but only enough to cause their dishes to fall off the countertop, the cupboard doors swinging open and closed. The TV rocking back and forth on the stand. Dean dived to the table to get under it, and wait it out.
Meanwhile back at Target, screaming shoppers can be heard throughout more than just Target.
Once the shaking had calmed down, she knew they had to get out immediately.
She quickly pulled out her phone. Seeing the alert had gone off.
An 7.5 earthquake.
“How big was that?” someone asks.
“I don’t know but that was big!” someone else shouts.
“My phone says 7.5, it was big enough.” Y/N shouts.
“Oh god, we’re dead!”
“Okay, Okay, don’t panic, we just have to get out of here before the aftershocks kick in.” Y/N suggests.
“Where can we go, we’re on the top floor!”
“At one part of the mall this is the ground floor, we just have to find another one of the exits. Avoid the escalators, we have to get out before the floor collapses on us.” She explains.
“I’m with her.”
“Oh my god! Someone help me!”
Bring on the victims. She thought.
“I’m a nurse, what’s wrong!” Y/N shouts.
“It’s my husband, he’s bleeding!”
She ran to the panicked woman.
“Where at?” she asks.
“His leg, a shard of glass from the wine cut him.”
She examines his leg.
“Do you have a belt sir?”
He nods.
“Let’s get it off of you and make a tourniquet.” She says.
Y/N helps him get his belt off and works on tying it above the cut on his leg. Not too tight but tight enough.
“Okay, do you got him?” she asks the man’s wife.
“Yes, but where---”
“I came in from the ground level entrance, it’s a ways north, we just go this way.” She pointed out.
“You make it sound so easy, how are you so calm?”
“I’m an emergency nurse at Rampart.”
“You’re so amazing, thank you, thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome, now lets get out of here.”
“Alright everyone, you can follow me, the ground level entrance is this way.” Y/N shouts.
And she began leading the herd.
“Do you hear that?” Someone asked in the Food quart.
“Oh shit, they didn’t turn off the gas.” Y/N muttered.
“GET AWAY FROM THE FOOD QUART!” She shouts.
Just as the people ran in a panic out of the doors near the food quart leading to one of the parking lots out on the ground level, an explosion of fire broke out in a couple of the restaurants in the food quart.
“We’re dead!” a number of people shouted.
“We’ll get out of this, just stay calm and follow me!” Y/N encouraged. As she and everyone behind her, around her, all shielded themselves from the fire.
Dean, in his car sped his way to station 51.
“It’s all hands on deck, there’s fires everywhere.” John says as Dean entered the station.
“Y/N’s at the mall.”
“Which one?”
“The one off of Center Pointe.”
“Shit, that’s one of our calls. Get suited up, and lets go.”
As the alarm goes off in the station, Dean hurries to the squad, grabbing his fireman’s bottoms and coat.
“I got your boots and mine, lets go!” Cas says, getting in the passenger.
Dean not wasting anytime, turns on the squad and follows the engine out of the station, speeding towards the shopping center.
“Are we there yet?” a little girl asks.
“Almost there sweetheart, we just have to---”
“Wait!” someone pulls Y/N back.
Y/N grabbing the man’s arm noticing a drop.
“The floor caved in…shit, that’s what I was worried about.”
“Oh, now what!?”
She looked around, finding another way through the store down below.
“Look there’s an exit down there.”
“But it leads to the underground parking.”
“Still it’s a way out, just wait here then, there’s an incline here, I’ll just climb down and see how far the exit is from the underground parking.” Y/N says, determined to get these people out and out alive.
Sliding down the concrete ramp, she jogs through the store, climbing through a fissure in the wall, seeing the garage not perfect but from where she was there was a path closest to the building leading out to daylight.
She hurries back to the scared people.
“There’s a straightforward path outside from here, come on, if we hurry---”
The ground began to shake, throwing her off balance.
“Oh no it’s an aftershock!” someone shouted.
The engine managed to get to the shopping mall, seeing a fire in one section. Coming to a stop they can feel the aftershocks.
“Shit, we have to hurry, Dean, Cas, find a way in. Kevin, Michael, find us some water!” John ordered.
Dean taking the squad closer to the building, scoping out a way in.
“We could try there.” Cas suggested.
“It doesn’t look too structurally sound Cas.”
“It’s holding up so far.”
“True. Okay, but lets find a plan B.”
“And C.”
“And D.”
 “I hear sirens!” Someone shouted.
“Come on, the opening is still here!” Y/N shouted.
“Go on baby, mommy and daddy are right behind you.” A pair of parent said to the small girl.
She slid down the concrete ramp, looking scared and timid but Y/N stood by close until her parents met up with her.
“Okay, keep it going, we’re almost out of here!” Y/N encouraged.
It seemed to be going smoothly, everyone was starting to rush down the ram and running outside, frantically.
“Dean look!” Cas shouted as Dean made a loop around the Mall.
“That’s a good sign, okay, let’s help them.” Dean says, bring the squad to a stop.
“Engine 51, this is squad 51, Cap, there’s an couple of entrances above ground that are stable, but we found one by the underground parking, a large number of survivors are coming out.”
“Copy that.” John says.
“Anyone hurt!” Cas asked as he got out.
A number of people saying their fine, scared. A select few coming forward with injuries of cuts.
“Good job miss on making that tourniquet.” Dean commented.
“Oh, I didn’t do that, a nice lady, a nurse from Rampart did it.”
Dean’s heart dropped. Y/N was in there.
“Did you see her?” Dean asked. Unable to hide the panic look in his face.
“We ran right past her, she led us out that way.”
“Atta girl, Cas you got them?” Dean asked.
“I got them, go.” Cas says as he attends to the couple.
Dean got to the opening and he could see a familiar figure in the dark dusty parking lot.
“Y/N!”
“Dean!” she shouts, turning to find him in the opening.
People still trinkling out. Dean helping them out the best he could.
“You hurt!”
“No, I’m fine, just help them!”
What started as a light tremble got slightly stronger, another aftershock.
“Oh fuck, Y/N hurry up!” Dean shouted.
Y/N hurried the people out. And just as she was making her way to Dean she heard a puppy barking. Stopping her dead in her tracks. She began to search for it.
A puppy scurried out from under a car with a limp, barking fearfully.
“It’s okay baby, I got you.” She says, hurrying to the scared puppy. Looking at it’s paw. Seeing a shard of glass in one of it’s paw pads.
“Poor thing, I got you.” She says.
She heard a crack in the concrete. All of a sudden the ceiling looking closer and feeling a lot closer. She fell on her rear, the ceiling seemed like it didn’t want to stop.
No. she prayed.
The after shock stopping just as soon as it started, the ceiling stopped.
“Y/N! Please say something!”
“I’m okay!” she shouts.
The concrete already sounding unstable, she hurries, crawling on all fours with the puppy in her hand, she even brings her feet into the crawling.
Like a domino effect, the ceiling begins to collapse.
A little girl stopped by one of the cars, scared, crying. Not stopping, she grabs the girl by the arm, and continues to crawl.
“Run guys, run!” Dean chants.
“Keep going sweetie, keep running!” Y/N tells the little girl.
The girl being the first out, dives into Dean’s arms.
“I gotchu sweetheart!” Dean tells her.
Y/N making a dive out, landing on her back with the pupping in her chest as the parking lot collapses behind her in a cloud of dust.
Y/N got up, still holding the puppy, trembling in her arms, licking her graciously on her neck. As if it was thanking her for saving her.
Dean stood by the squad, consoling the child, sees Y/N walking with a puppy in her arms. Panting from the adrenaline. Hurries to her, engulfs her in his arms.
“Are you okay?” he asks.
“I’m fine.”
“You go to Target and you come back with a puppy.” He smirks.
“I couldn’t resist, he was cute!” Y/N giggles.
“So far, everyone’s okay, in one piece, little girl’s back with her parents.” Dean informs her.
“That’s good.”
“Is it me or does danger just seem to find us?”
“Something.”
 The next day…
“Come here Tremor!” Y/N coaxes.
The Basset Hound Puppy running over, his ears flopping in the wind. Making Y/N giggle.
“Good boy!”
“I’m home!” Dean shouts from the house.
“Go get daddy boy!” she encourages. The puppy making a mad dash for Dean. Only to trip on his ears in the run. Earning a laugh from Dean and Y/N.
“It’s okay buddy, I gotchya!” Dean says, meeting the puppy halfway, and picking him up.
The puppy showering Dean in licks.
“Been good for mommy.”
“Still working on potty training, he peed in the house, that’s why I opened it up.”
“Eh, it’s a learning progress for the little dude.”
“Yeah, so, how was work today?”
“Oh, same old. Rescued a cat from a tree, saved a heart attack victim. The usual.” Dean jokes.
Y/N giggling. Giving him a kiss on the lips. Only for him to deepen it, the puppy getting jealous and licking both of them.
“Okay, Tremor, we get it.” Dean goes.
“And I owe someone some sexy fun time tonight.” Y/N says playfully as she heads back inside.
“Yes you do.” Dean says. Following her at her heels.

It surprises me every time how joyful and carefree Harvey is now that he is with Donna 😯 Like wow, when they are together in private it's like all his burdens go away and he has can just smile happily. Not even in a smug or flirtatious way - just so openly happy. Beautiful.

Hold Me Closer
read on AO3
Relationship: Riza Hawkeye/Roy Mustang
Rating: General Audiences
Summary:
Riza prided herself on almost always knowing what her General was up to, but this time she felt at loss. After lunch he called her in his office and without much explanation asked to swing by his apartment that evening. She didn’t question his motives then, they had their hands full with the upcoming relocation so it wasn’t unbecoming to take more work home as well. But the display before her didn’t look like a ‘working environment’ at all.
A/N: belately posted gift for @niconiconina ! Thank you for being such a great listener and talking companion 😘

I have this thought... The circle on Riza's back - is it working? Roy has a fraction of it on his gloves but is it possible to use Riza's circle instead? Would he need to touch her? Maybe not since he doesn't exactly touch his circle when he uses gloves.
Also Roy craved the circle on his hand and it worked! But did the actual process of activating that circle hurt? Roy already was in bad condition so there is no way to determine if there was an additional pain.
I've read one fanfic where team met an alchemist who could activate circles remotely and that affected Riza in a bad way.
I am sure that Roy would not dare to use Riza like that.
However it made me think: what if in the beginning when he was just studying, he activated it on accident?
Or what if some mission goes horribly wrong, Roy has no gloves and no way to draw another circle, it's a life of death situation and Riza, knowing all that, asks him or signals him that he can do this.
I feel that Riza must hate to be put in such position but she is that selfless.
Oh, I‘ve looked up the tattoo: Roy burned the border of circle too so it is useless (thankfully).
But we don't know when exactly Roy did it. Maybe still in Ishval or maybe later.
What if the promise to Riza was not enough to build his resolve to do it? Then something bad happens, he is pushed to use Riza's circle, she is hurt (definitely emotionally but maybe even physically) and now that finally convinces Roy to get rid of the tattoo.

Let's talk about Roy and his alchemy today!
As far as I remember he manipulates oxygen, therefore controlling the strength and amount of fire coming from a spark.
And in manga this process is explained by Havoc.
Flame array is in a plain view sewed on his gloves. Unless there are parts of array sewed from inside... But then during battle with Lust he carved the exact same array so nothing is hidden.
So the question is... If the array and general mechanism is a common knowledge, what stops any other alchemist from learning this form of alchemy as well?
Or Roy told about the process only to his team but otherwise kept it in secret? Or there must be something more to the mechanism than Roy let on?
I mean, even though the array on Riza's back is partially destroyed, Riza still is worried about this secret and is determined to take it to the grave. So casually explaining the process seems reckless if that's indeed the truth.

“It was him you talked about, when you used to call me late at night, saying you were missing your ex? Was it him, your important five-year long story? Was it him the person you had thought about proposing, one day?” Nick asks with a low voice, almost inaudible, almost like he’s talking to himself “He’s my boyfriend…” he whispers again, without looking up.
“I know! And you shouldn’t worry, because you don’t have a single reason to do so. He’s yours now, he’s with you. I really don’t understand why you came here, honestly” Harry says defending himself out of instinct, even if he has no reason to react like that. He just- just wishes for Nick to leave his room and go back home to Louis. Because at this point Nick has Louis and fuck, why can’t he just go fuck off for once? Normally, Harry would ignore it and continue on his search for someone to drink from, someone who wouldn’t mind his sharp teeth and rough hands. He’s seen plenty of boys like this one, ones who picked the wrong playmates, and if he stopped to rescue every single one of them he would have died from thirst a long time ago.
This one, though. There’s something about this one, the sheen of his bright blue eyes as he blinks slowly, looks around as though he doesn’t know where he is, the weakness of his hands as he tries to push the girl off of him and make his escape.
31) With Stars Of Brightest Gold | Explicit | 41109 words

Because the swan is gone.
And in its place is the prettiest omega Harry has ever seen.

But the most feared Alpha in Europe is dead set against the plan — and it seems like someone else might be too. Pirate AU.

Note: This fic is the second part of a series. Part three is #36 in this list.
Louis never knew werewolves existed, until the night he survived a violent attack... and became one himself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, he'd learned to keep his head down and never, ever trust dominant wolves. Then Harry Styles, the enforcer—and son—of the leader of the North American werewolves, came into his life.
Harry insists that not only is Louis his mate, but he is also a rare and valued Omega wolf. And it is Louis' inner strength and calming presence that will prove invaluable as he and Harry go on the hunt in search of a rogue werewolf—a creature bound in magic so dark that it could threaten all of the pack.

Dick: Why shouldn’t I?
Duke: Jason is gunna bitch about all of his presents or tune us out or both, Tim is gunna sleep through most of it because he’ll be up all night wrapping presents, Steph will spend most of the day on social media, Barbara and Dick will get very cozy on the couch probably reading something, and Damian will wake everyone up by jumping on the bed screaming,

Harper: Why do you even have ornaments of your villians, Bruce!
Stephanie: Oh, I got this one! Because the trophies in the Bat-cave aren’t enough!
Jason: *high fives Stephanie*
Bruce: It’s because I like to remember those who are not spending the holidays in the most ideal place.
Jason: So you are capable of emotion! I never knew!
Alfred: *hits Jason on the head*
Dick: Awww, this is a cute one *holds up an ornament of Bruce and Selina kissing in their costumes*
Selina: I’ll hang that one up! *reaches for it and places it on the tree* Do you remember that one Bruce?
Bruce: Yeah, that was when we first started working together. *both of them kiss*

Hey! I was wondering if you could do promt #3 for Hyde x reader? (Love your story telling btw)
I (fake) love you - Steven Hyde x reader
Tumblr media
a\n: this somehow ended up as a fake dating au but i’m not mad
trigger warnings: cursing, weed mentioning, Hyde and reader are pretending to “do it” as Kelso would say, i’d say it has some angst and fluff but nithing too extreme.
I was always good at reading people. Normally, I could talk to someone for 5 minutes and know everything there is to know about them, for example, the first time I met Michael Kelso, I knew immediately he’s dependable, loyal and likes to be pushed around. Most people thinks it’s his lack of smarts that makes it easy to manipulate him, but the truth is he just seeks attention, he grew up in such a big family, and as just another sandwich kid, he never got that much attention. He’s more than just a good-looking, brainless goofball.
Eric Forman? Smart kid, heart of gold. His father crashed his self esteem and his belief he has no worth sunk so deep into his brain he’s not even trying to prove it wrong. He’s not just a nerdy smart-ass, too bad he’s scared of his potential.
Donna Pinciotti is the girl who will go far. She’ll make history, i can tell you that. She is passionate, and she will not hesitate to fight over what she sees right, yet will admit if she did you wrong. She grew up in a loving family overall, but she doesn't want to end up like her dad: rich, lazy and stuck in a small town. She’s a big city kind of girl.
Fez is sweet, desperate and eats candy to cope with his loneliness. He’s not afraid of his feminine side, and cares about his looks in a different way then Kelso. He might be weird, and have a tendency to say the most inappropriate things, but he never looks to hurt someone or make them uncomfortable, he just wants to feel loved.
Jackie Burkhart was a bit harder to crack, and her first impression on me was semi-wrong. I could tell she’s more than a spoiled brat, I just didn’t know if it’s in a good way - like, she might be smart and kind, with a broken point of view in the world but she’s willing to look at it from a different point of view. On the other hand, she could be a mean, spoiled brat who’s going to succeed big time by manipulating the hell out of everything around her. Turns out it’s a little bit of both - she’s kind, and she learns the world is not all glitter and unicorns, but she manipulates to get things her way. At least she doesn't make a fuss when she doesn't get what she wanted. Well, not as much.
With all that, there was still one mystery in the little group I found myself a part of: Steven Hyde.I could not tell you a thing about him. I knew the basics - his name, the fact his parents are not there, and that he likes weed, beer and Zeppelin. He hid every sign of emotions behind sarcasm, and had walls taller than anyone i’ve ever met.
I started hanging out with them when I moved here. Kelso made a move on me the second he saw me, and he still tries to this day, but it’s obvious our relationship is strictly platonic and it’s not going to change, even though he thinks it’s better. One time I jokingly agreed and he said, and I quote, “ew, no, you’re like a sister to me”, but he keeps on making sexual advances on me for the sake of the joke.
I quickly befriended the rest of the guys (and girls), and even though i learned to love all of them, there was someone i really loved. Not Kelso, he’s practically my brother, it was Hyde i was so into, but i can’t tell you why. Maybe it was his sense of humor, maybe it was his kind heart or maybe it was the challenge.
“Hey, (y\n), penny for your thoughts?” Donna said, breaking the silence. The TV was on, but it was clear my head is somewhere else. “She’s thinking ‘bout Hyde” Kelso was quick to tease. “Shut up” I growled at him, and suddenly everyone’s focus was on me. Hyde wasn’t there, Kelso might have zero tact, but he would never throw me under the bus, cause he knows i will get into the bus and run over him. It was me and him on the couch, and Donna and Eric across from each other on the chairs as a way to avoid them making out instead of hanging out with their friends. “(y\n), do you want to tell us something?” Eric asks. “I- no, it’s stupid. Kelso is stupid, remember the time he ate a blueberry on a field trip and it ended up being the poisneus one we were warned about when we arrived?” i said, hoping it will drive the attention to tease him and not me. “Oh, that was funny, but not as funny as the time he revealed you have a crush on Hyde” Donna said, “but good try”. I sighed. “Look, it’s not like i’m in love with him or something, he’s just a mystery I want to solve. A mystery with a kind smile and great sense of humor. Look, it’s nothing, Kelso is just obsessed with the idea his best friends will date” i said. “oh, Tell them what you told me, come on! It was hilarious” Kelso said, ignoring the last part of my confession, and when I refused he decided to share my words he did it himself. “God, Kelso, his voice is so hot, i can listen to him for hours even if it’s just the stupid car that runs on water non-sense” He said, immitating a high-pitched voice that didn’t really sound like mine. “That is not what i said” i tried to redeem myself, but Eric and Donna were too busy laughing to hear me. “I just said he’s voice is calming” I kept trying.
“Who’s voice?” Hude asked as he jumped over the couch and took the open spot next to me. “Y-” Kelso started, but i hit his chest, “-our mama” he changed the ending of the word, “BURN!”. “I was talking about the weather guy” I made up, but did I lie? “You’re so weird, man” Hyde sighed, stretching and leaving his hand on the couch. “Well, kelso, we have this thing, you coming?” Donna said, “with Jackie, the double date i can’t believe i agreed to”. Kelso looked confused, “it’s tomorrow”. “No, it’s today” Eric insisted, winking at him and nudging his head at me and hyde. “What? Jackie is going to kill me-” “we won’t tell her you forgot” Donna plays along. I saw right through the act, but kelso really thought he forgot.
He left the basement along with Eric and donna. It wasn’t the first time me and Hyde we’re alone, but usually it was Kelso ditching me and Hyde when the three of us hung out to try and get a girl to sleep with. I’m telling you, one day he’ll get someone pregnant.
“What’s with them?” Hyde sighed and got up to get a popsicle. “Who fucking knows?” i replied, trying to think of a way to change the subject. “You saw how Eric pointed at us? Like what, are they trying to get us alone?” Hyde continued, handing me a popsicle as he sat down. “I- yeah” i admitted, “Kelso has this crazy idea, he wants us to date cause we’re both his best friends or something” i explained, leaving out the part i was on board with the idea, and the fact that it was originally mine. “Oh, we should totally prank them!” Hyde said, “like, let’s pretend to date and be the most annoying couple ever”. I looked at him confused. “Like, we can use cutest couple names, ditch them to be alone or just make out in their face constantly” his smile got wider and wider, and I can't say no to that smile. “Sure, yeah, could be fun”.
The next day, I walked in the basement wearing your favourite outfit, ready to annoy the heck out of my friend. The moment you entered the room, Hyde got up and pulled you onto a hug. “Hey, lover boy” I said, kissing him on the lips. We had to practice doing that without laughing. We kissed like, 10 times yesterday when we planned the prank, his reply kept breaking us and we had to do it again. “Hi, apple pai” he said, kissing me one more time. Everyone looked at each other, exchaging “what the fuck?”s with their eyes. Hyde placed his hand on my waist and walked me to the couch, “Steven!” I laughed when he picked me up in bridal style and sat down, resting me in his lap.  “God, babe, you look so hot today” Hyde said, sliding his hand down my side, settling on a not too sexual but not that friendly spot on my thigh. It was all planned, and fake, but the blush on my cheeks was as real as it gets. “Well, lover, I wanted to dress up for you” I said, fidgeting with the collar of his shirt. “Uh, guys, what’s going on?” Jackie was the first to speak. “Oh, well, yesterday Kelso, Eric and Donna, pulled a little trick to get me and Hyde together, and it worked” I smiled. “Yeah, guys, thank you so much for helping me get with the most beautiful girl in the world” Hyde agreed, looking at me through his rosy sunglasses. I took them from him. “Hey!” he said, but before he got them back I put them on. I slide them down my nose and look up to him. “That was hot, so i’ll let it slide this time” he said, taking the glasses off of my face. The script we wrote was absolutely perfect.
The days have passed, and soon they turned into weeks, and our little show kept going.  I’ll admit, kissing Hyde and ditching the gang to hang out with him (we pretended to leave for a different reason, tho), the fake double dates… it was fun. The longer we pretended to date, the more our couple-y behavior stuck with us, like, one time we met up for a pretend-date and he kissed me when he saw me. I kissed him back, it just felt natural. We got a good laugh out of it, but it happened more than once. I knew I had to ask him to stop this, because my feelings kept growing but he had none, plus I know he kept fooling around cause i’ve seen girls flirting with him, and they always left together.
We were in his room now, pulling another trick. “Oh, lover, yes” i called, trying to sound as breathless as i can. “Oh, buttercup, you're soooo hot” Hyde called, and jumped on his bed, making it creek. I had to really hold my laugh as I joined him.
“Oh, babe, you’re so good” I called, adding some moans in between words. “Nice” he whispered. We heard the door knob being messed with. Hyde was quick to push me down on the bed. He took off his shirt, hinting me to do the same as we got under the sheets. He got on top of me and pushed his lips against mine just as Michael opened the door.
“Dude!’ Steven called and pulled the covers over us as he fell on his back next to me. “Dude, we can hear you, that’s so gross. You two are-” Michael started. “Well, you can just take your hangout somewhere else, Kelso” i said, throwing the first thing I could grab in his face. It was my shirt. “Yeah, we are kind of in the middle, man” Hyde said. The moment Kelso left, Hyde and I started laughing like crazy.
“That was..” i said as he got up. “Yeah, i’m so good” he said, mimicking my breathless voice. “K, give me my shirt back” i said, trying not to look at his bare chest, and not luckily, he was already putting on his shirt.  He went up to the door. “Kelso took it” Hyde said, grining. “Well, shit” I sighed, but he had a solution. “Take this” he said, and tossed me a Led Zeppelin shirt. “Thank you, lover boy” I said, staying under the covers. He looked at me, waiting. “Well, turn around, creep” i said, laughing. “As your boyfriend-” he started, but gave up when his eyes met mine, “fine”. He turned around, allowing me to put on his shirt. “You can look now” I said, fixing the shirt. “How do i look?” I asked. “So hot, buttercup” he replied, smirking and wrapping his hands around my waist and kissing me, forgetting that we are not actually dating. “Hyde, we need to break up” the words slip out of my mouth.
“what ? why?” he asked, “i mean, this is the best prank i ever pulled, and the most enjoyable” he said, his lips stretch into his familiar smirk. “Because-” i tried, but couldn’t come up with a good reason other than the truth. “I mean, you have to admit it’s fun” he said, his hands still around my waist. “Well, yeah, but not for the reason you think” i say, and the confused look in his eyes hurts me. “I- Hyde, this is.. Look, I know you’re sleeping around and that’s gonna blow our cover ``I finally find an answer, “you don’t want your friends to think you’re a cheater”. He looked even more confused. “(y\n), i haven’t touched any other girl since we started... this” he replies, pointing at me and at him. “But i saw you-” I insisted. “I couldn’t, every single time” he admits. Taking the sunglasses resting on his cabinet and putting them on. “Why would you do that? You really expect me to think a horny teenager gave up making out, possibly more, with really hot girls because of what? He’s fake dating a random girl?” I laugh sadly. “No, god, (y\n), you are not some random girl” he says, resting his hands on my arms. “Why-” “because i love you!”.
I don’t know who was more surprised at his words - him or me. We stayed quiet. “Are you- are you gonna say anything?” he broke the silence. “How about i’ll do something instead?” i said, taking a step closer to him. As I moved closer, I placed my hands around his neck. “What are yo-” he tried to ask, but I pulled myself up and connected our lips. Even though we kissed before, this time it was different. His lips moved against mine in a mix of relife, passion and love. He tasted like mint, orange flavoured popsicle and weed. “I forgot to mention, I love you too” I said, breaking the kiss. “Whatever man” he said, re-connecting our lips.

Destination Wedding
This is an A/B/O story
“Bed 3 needs a head CT, call radiology!”  I barked to the charge nurse, poking my head around the curtain so she could make the call.  The elderly woman I was currently evaluating had fallen down the steps, and I needed to rule out a head injury.
Trish, one of the RNs who worked in the ER came toward me with a piece of paper in her hand, a worried frown on her face. I knew that look. “What’s up?” I asked.
“Can you look at this EKG? This guy came in with chest pain. He’s feeling better, but I don’t like his color,” She handed me the paper and I scanned it intently.
I turned to the nurse who was with the old lady.  “Can you handle things here for a minute? When she nodded, I turned back to Trish. “I want to see this guy. I don’t like that EKG at all.” We headed in the direction of Bed 5, and I heard the screech of the heart monitor as it flatlined. I broke into a run and threw back the curtain, shoving his wife out of the way. “Call a code and somebody page cardiology!”
Getting into position, I began chest compressions as I heard the rumble of the crash cart approaching. Within two minutes the area around the bed was filled with people from many departments.
We hooked him up to the AED, and the cardiologist shocked him, and his heart started beating again. “He's having an MI. I've got this. We need to get him up to ICU.”  I knew he was in good hands and gladly transferred care to him.
Every bed in our small ER was full, and I was the only doctor on duty until my relief came in at 7 am. It was going to be a long night. It was my last night working before vacation and damned if this place wasn’t going to make me earn every minute off if it didn’t kill me first. Oh, the joys of emergency medicine!
But things did eventually slow down, and I spent the last hour of my shift catching up on my charting. I did still had one patient, a 10-year old boy who had fallen out of bed. I was pretty sure his leg was broken, but I was just getting an x-ray to confirm.
“So are you getting excited?” Trish asked me as I typed on the computer.
“About the broken leg?” I asked only half-listening.  I was determined to get out of here on time for once. I still had to pack.
She rolled her eyes. “No! About the wedding, silly! About the trip to the Bahamas. About your first vacation in……..well forever.  Maybe you’ll meet an Alpha and fall in love.”
I made a face. Trish was the only one that I worked with who knew I was an Omega.  I was on incredibly powerful suppressants.  My friend Charlie worked in R and D at a pharmaceutical company, and she got me the stuff that wasn’t even available to the public yet. This was the stuff they used in the military.
No one had any idea what I was, which was fine with me. With my job and all the people I met, I needed to nip that shit in the bud. I didn’t have time for heats or any Alphas panting after me.  I was married to my job, and that’s the way I liked it.
But for Donna, I would make an exception and take some time off.  That is how much she meant to me.  I had met Donna Hanscum in college when she was a criminal justice major and I was pre-med and I had no way of keeping my Omega under control.
We had both gotten a job as waitresses at this dive bar called Harvelle’s to make extra money. She had been leaving for the night and came across two huge Alphas hassling me in the parking lot. Several well-placed kicks later the Alphas had run crying for their mommies and Donna and I were BFFs. She seemed all perky and nice, but when you pissed her off, she was a badass.
After medical school, I took a job in Nebraska, and Donna became a sheriff in Minnesota. A few years later she met a guy from Kansas during a routine traffic stop, and it was love. They did the long-distance thing for a bit, and then she decided to move to Kansas to be with him. I thought he almost sounded too good to be true, but on a rare weekend off I drove there to meet him, and I could clearly see that Dean Winchester loved my friend.  And the fact he was drop-dead gorgeous didn’t hurt.
“How come none of my patients ever look like him?” I grumbled good-naturedly as Donna and I washed dishes.
“Well, he has a brother….” Donna began, and I held up a hand to silence her.
“I am not looking to be fixed up, Don. My work is my life right now.”
“I understand, but I want you to be as happy as I am.” she said with a sappy smile. After dating for less than a year, Dean proposed to Donna. They were both Betas, and they were actually very well suited. They had decided to get married in Aruba. and they would have a party when they got back.
When Donna called me to share the good news, “I want to go,” came out of my mouth  before I could stop myself. “I haven’t had a vacation in forever, and seeing my best friend married seems like a good reason.” Where had that come from?
Donna was thrilled of course and asked me to be her maid of Honor. I didn’t even hesitate before I accepted.
I finished dictating before I answered Trish “It will be weird to not be here. I know its in the Bahamas, but I’m sure it’s going to be boring. I’ll be busy with all kinds of Maid-of-Honor stuff.”
“When do you leave?” Trish asked curiously.
“The day after tomorrow. That gives me one day to pack.”
“You haven’t even started packing yet?” she laughed, shaking her head.  “Please tell me you have a suitable bathing suit at least.”
“I will after I buy one,” I said sheepishly.
“Girl, you are a hot mess.” She told me, but she was smiling.
Charting of course took longer than it should have. Dot, the supervisor of medical records would have my hide if I went on vacation and left charting to be done, so I staying until I was completely caught up and my inbox was empty.
When I got home, I should have gone straight to bed, but I started to panic I wouldn’t be ready so I started packing. I was coming off of a 12-hour ER shift, and when the adrenaline wore off, I was going to crash badly. So I might as well ride the wave as long as it lasted. I could always sleep on the plane, right?

- Maxwell -
When they reached Riley’s building and Maxwell got out of the limousine, he spots Liam and the children.
“Baby blossoms!” he calls. “Liam! Where are you guys coming from?”
“The Petty Cookie Dean!” Eleanor states.
“No it was Le Pain Quotidien!” Gabriel corrects. “We had breakfast there.”
Maxwell raises his eyebrows at Liam, who has a wide smile plastered over his face. It’s something that Maxwell hasn’t seen in years.
Once the rest of the Beaumonts are out of the car, Bartie nervously waves at the baby blossoms.
“Hi, Bartie,” Eleanor greets.
He doesn’t say anything back.
They all pile into the elevator, and Maxwell’s phone rings. He takes it out of his pocket and stares at it. Bertrand yells at him.
“Dear God, Maxwell! Answer the phone so that maddening song will be turned off!”
“It’s Hana,” Maxwell breathes.
Liam’s eyes go wide. It was only him and Maxwell that had tried to stay in touch with Lady Hana. She only responded to Maxwell’s calls and letters in the beginning, then stopped. They knew she answered Liam because it would be disrespectful not to. Neither Liam or Maxwell could guess the reason for her calling. Maxwell nervously forces his finger to lick “answer,” hoping that there wasn’t any bad news.
“Hana?” he whispers into the phone, doubtful that she even meant to call in the first place.
“Oh… hello, Maxwell,” she says softly. “I didn’t think you would answer.”
“Oh Hana I never thought that you would call! I’ve… I’ve missed you so much! I can’t believe I’m hearing your voice again!” Maxwell chokes up, and has to hold his breath to stop a sob from escaping him. The baby blossoms look up at him, concerned.
“I know…,” she continues. “I never really thought that I would either. How are you?”
“Uh… fine… yeah, I’m doing fine. So are Bertrand and Savannah.” He glances over at Liam, then adds, “And Liam.”
“What about Drake? Is he with you all?”
He glances over at Liam. They’re almost at their floor. “Drake’s not with us right now, but I’m sure he’ll catch up with us later.”
There’s a pause at the other end. Maxwell can’t even hear her breathing. Everyone looks over at him expectantly. The elevator dings: they’ve reached their floor.
“I wanted to let you know that I’m in Cordonia,” she finally says.
Maxwell stops in his tracks. “You’re in Cordonia?”
Everyone except Bartie and the baby blossoms turn back and stare at Maxwell.
“She must be there for the tea ceremony tomorrow,” Liam speculates.
“The Queen Mother personally invited my husband and I to the Cordonian Tea Ceremony,” she confirms.
“So… so you’re with Neville?” Maxwell says. He walks closer to Liam and puts the phone on speaker. The children have reached their door at the end of the hall. When they notice that the rest of the adults didn’t follow them, they wait.
“No. I’m here by myself. Neville had to go to London at the last minute.”
Maxwell thinks, Good riddance.
“Also… I just had an interesting lunch with the Queen Mother. Lady Olivia and Countess Madeleine were there, too.”
“What do you mean interesting?” Liam asks. He clears his throat. “My apologizes Lady Hana. It’s nice to hear from you.”
“A pleasure to speak to you as well, Your Majesty! Olivia told me that you were all in New York?”
“Yes, I… meant to call and let you know, but I became occupied once we arrived. My apologies.”
“That’s alright… but I thought you should know that the Queen Mother knows that you’re with Lady Riley. I don’t know if Olivia got the chance to tell you.”
Liam’s eyebrows furrow, but before he can say anything else, Hana continues, “And she… she told us that she played a part in keeping Riley away. She was quite proud of herself, actually.”
Liam stares down at the phone for a moment. Everyone else looks at him expectantly. When he speaks, his voice is rough: “How?”
“The Queen Mother prevented Lady Riley from attending Duke Bertrand’s wedding,” Hana answers in a hushed tone.
“Oh, my God…,” Maxwell breathes. “I didn’t even know she accepted the invitation. I… I didn’t even know that I had sent it to the right place!”
The group falls into silence. Bartie and the baby blossoms have walked back up to them, and Gabriel and Eleanor stare at Liam’s face, which has gone pale.
After a few more seconds, Hana speaks, “How is…,” she pauses to clear her throat, and Maxwell can hear the tears in her voice. “How is Riley?”
“She, uh…,” Maxwell begins. He looks at Liam, waiting for him to say something, but Liam’s jaw has stiffened and he stares off, deep in thought. “She lost her memory. She doesn’t remember any of us.”
“Oh… well… have you all tried showing her things that might help her remember?”
Someone opens a door and bumps into Maxwell. They realize that they’ve all been standing aimlessly in the hallway, next to doors on the other side of which people live. Bertrand motions for everyone to keep walking. Once they reach the door, the baby blossoms knock and Rowan opens the door.
“Hello?” Hana calls.
“Yeah, sorry, Hana. What did you say?”
“I said that you should try exposing Riley to significant things from her past. That usually works when you try to reverse long-term memory loss.”
Maxwell is about to ask her how she knows that, but Bertrand speaks up and says, “The only significant thing that could bring back her memory of us would be Cordonia, and everything in it…. Perhaps it would be best to return and bring her back with us.”
“Excuse you?” Charlotte Brooks’ voice echos off of the walls. “What the hell did you just say?”
Liam speaks first. “Good morning, Mrs. Brooks.” Seeing that Charlotte was walking closer to Bertrand, Liam steps in between them. “He simply suggested that bringing her back to our country could help get her memories back.”
“Oh I heard what he said,” she spits. “If all you came here for was to take her away again, you can all turn around and leave. What gives him the right to think that he can bring my daughter back to that—” she notices the baby blossoms. “That garbage bag of a country?”
“Ma’am, please—” Liam tries to stop the argument.
“I’ll have you know,” Bertrand begins. “That Cordonia has been and remains to be home to the most sophisticated and honorable people this world has ever seen! We have more culture and ambition that this social experiment of a country could ever imagine having!”
“Speak for yourself!” she screams. “The only Cordonians I’ve known are you folks, and all you’ve proved to be are some pompous pricks that show up when no one wants you!”
Fuming, Bertrand continues, “We did not come here for our satisfaction or for your’s Mrs. Brooks, we came here to check in on Lady Riley! And finding that she has already provided Cordonia with her long awaited heir, we will be bringing her and the child back!”
“Really? That’s all you people care about, isn’t it? All you want is a continued status boost—”
Bertrand interrupts her, “We will be bringing her back on her own accord, ma’am! This arrangement will have nothing to do with you! Our country is in enough turmoil as it is, and we will not stand by and let some—”
Charlotte interrupts him. “You seriously think that Riley would want you people here? You think she would want to go back to the country that’s brought her and her husband so much pain? All your people and your court ever did was shame her! I’ll be damned if I let that happen again. Get the hell out of my house you son of a—”
“Okay!” Rowan screams, grabbing everyone’s attention. “This looks like it’s getting messy,” she directs her words to the baby blossoms, “so why don’t we go downstairs and play some games while the adults sort this out?”
Liam turns. “Downstairs? I don’t think there’s any need to bring them all the way down to the lobby.”
“We’re not going to the lobby,” Eleanor tells Liam.
“We have three floors,” Gabriel continues. “The one below us is a game room.” He points somewhere behind him, where there is a set of spiral stairs going down.
“Bartie,” Rowan continues. “Why don’t you come with us?”
“Oh,” he goes, taken aback. “No, thank you.”
“Nonsense!” Maxwell cries, grabbing Bartie’s shoulder and following the baby blossoms. “We’ll go together, muffin. Let’s give them the rest of them some space.” Maxwell realizes that he still holds his phone with Hana on the line.
Once they’re downstairs, the baby blossoms rush towards a large TV and Rowan sits on the couches that face it. Bartie walks around the game room, looking at all the recreational activities. Maxwell turns his attention back towards his phone.
“Did you hear all that, Hana?” Maxwell asks.
“Yes,” she responds. “Who was that arguing with Bertrand? And what did he mean when he said Cordonia’s heir?”
“Hana... I don’t know if Olivia told you, but... Riley has two kids.”
The baby blossoms turn on the TV, and music begins to play.
“Hana,” Maxwell continues, lowering his voice so that the baby blossoms wouldn’t hear. “We’re so sorry we didn’t call you before to tell you. Riley got into an accident and we were just busy....”
“It’s alright, Maxwell. I only have myself to blame for being misinformed. Well, I’m sorry to keep you. I talked to Olivia and she also knows that you are all in New York. Perhaps her and I will join you all after the ceremony.”
Maxwell and Hana say their goodbyes. He joins Rowan on the couch while the baby blossoms set up the game.
“So,” Rowan begins. “You’re the one who sponsored Riley and everything?”
“Yeah... uh... for her to be a suitor during the social season.” He feels his palms sweat. “That kinda backfired.”
“No it didn’t!” Rowan argued, patting his knee. “I mean... if she never met Liam, then Gabe wouldn’t be here today. And honestly, neither would Ella. And yeah it would have been nice for Riley to get her happily ever after... but I know she can’t imagine giving up her kids for that.”
They both turn to smile at the baby blossoms, who bring game controllers over to Maxwell and Rowan. They accept, and Maxwell asks what they’re going to play.
“Just Dance!” Eleanor cheers.
Maxwell shoots up from his seat. “I love Just Dance!”
Gabriel chooses a song, and they all start dancing. Rowan gives her controller to Bartie, who shows little enthusiasm. She sits back down, but Maxwell grabs her hand and makes her dance with him.
Almost an hour later, Bartie, Rowan, and Gabriel all collapse onto the couch, but Maxwell and Eleanor keep going.
“How... do you two... have... so much... energy?” Rowan breathes.
“It’s easy!” Eleanor states. “You just have to keep moving!”
“But that’s what gets you tired!” Gabriel states.
“Only if you’re not used to dancing a lot! I love dancing!”
Maxwell looks down at her, glad to have finally found someone who shared his love of dancing. “We’re an unstoppable dancing duo!” She jumps up to give him a high-five.
They hear footsteps coming down the stairs, and Liam appears a few moments later.
“Hi!” Eleanor calls, still dancing.
Maxwell notices Liam and pauses the game, which makes Eleanor pout. “It’s okay, baby blossom, we can play again later.”
“I came down here to tell you two that I’m sorry you had to listen to your grandmother and Duke Bertrand aruge,” Liam says to the baby blossoms. “You were not meant to hear some of the things that they said.”
Gabriel shrugs. “It’s okay.”
Liam takes a seat next to him on the couch. “Hopefully there shall be no more arguing. Your grandmother was upset when she thought we meant to take your mother away, but we’ve all decided not to discuss any of it until she gets better.”
Gabriel looks away from his father and nods.
They all sit in awkward tension, until there’s another pounding of footsteps on the stairs. It’s Bertrand, holding out his phone.
“Your Majesty,” he says. “There have been some pictures going around the internet of you walking around the city.”
“Ah,” Liam stands. Maxwell goes over to see that there are pictures of Liam going down into a subway station, and another one of him going into a cafe. Maxwell suspected to see the baby blossoms in the pictures, too, but thankfully they’re not visible. “These are from this morning,” Liam continues. “Only a few hours ago.”
“Your Majesty, I believe it would be best—” Bertrand tries to begin.
“Please, Lord Bertrand, there is nothing to worry about for the time being.” He tilts his head in the direction of the baby blossoms. “We cannot leave at the moment, considering Riley’s current situation. All we can do is be more discreet about our comings and goings.”
Bertrand looks like he wants to protest, but instead says, “Of course, Your Majesty.” He turns to leave, sending a smile in Bartie’s direction.
Liam turns back to the kids. “Now,” he says. “What were you two playing?”
“Just Dance,” Eleanor says quietly.
“Do you mind if I join?” Liam asks.
Eleanor’s face lights up, and she hands Liam a controller, who gives a broad smile.

November 2014 – November 2018
That Saturday had started like many others before. Drake woke up early to the sight of Alexis’s soft, bare skin next to him. He leaned over to pepper her back with lusty kisses. They were going to be apart the whole weekend, and Drake wanted to show his beautiful wife just how much he was going to miss her. Alexis woke up smiling and enjoying the jolts of pleasure that his ministrations always produced. Unfortunately, they both heard the voice calling them from the next room, suddenly interrupting their morning plans. Drake chuckled, resigned, as Alexis put on his Rolling Stones T-shirt. Twenty seconds later, Drake brought a sleepy Tom to the room with a book in his hands.
“C’mere, little man.” Drake placed him next to Alexis in their bed. Tom snuggled against his mother and gave her his favorite book as he did every Saturday morning. “I’ll go make us breakfast, Lexie,” he said and left for the kitchen after placing soft kisses on Tom’s and Alexis’ heads.
“Let’s see what you have this morning, Peanut.” She read the title out loud: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar. You really like this one, don’t you, hon?”
Tom nodded vigorously.  Alexis giggled and started reading as her son ran his little fingers over the drawings of the book.
When their reading was over, Alexis took Tom to his room. She went to the drawers to pick out his clothes.
“So, Shrek or Cars, Peanut?” she asked as she pulled out two different T-shirts from the top drawer.
“Shek!” Tom yelled excited.
“‘Shek’ it is, then,” she said, winking at him.
After a few minutes of chasing Tom around the room because he refused to wear his pants, they came down to the kitchen.
Drake chuckled at the sight of Tom wearing his green Shrek T-shirt with yellow pants and the cowboy boots Bianca had sent from Texas. His mother didn’t even know Tom. Those boots were the only gift she had sent him in three years, but Tom loved them.
“Bold choice of outfit, little man. Uncle Max will be proud.”
Alexis giggled. “He refused to wear anything else,” she said, placing Tom in his chair. “I can believe I have to work on a Saturday. I’m going to miss you two so much.” She pouted.
Drake was going with Tom to Ramsford for Savannah’s birthday. Alexis had gotten a job as the assistant to a renowned literary agent. She loved it, but it meant that she had to leave with her boss for the weekend to Portavira’s Book Fair.
Drake cupped her face before speaking. “You’re killing me with that sad little face. The weekend will be over before you know it. Tomorrow night we will be here waiting here for you, and we’ll have dinner ready. Do you want to cook with Dad, Peanut?”
Tom clapped with the spoon still in his hand, splashing strawberry yogurt all over the kitchen. “We make cake for Mommy!”
She took a kitchen towel and cleaned the mess, smiling at Tom’s vitality. “Well, if a delicious chocolate cake will be here waiting for me, I’ll be very motivated to come back as fast as possible.”
“I hope you’ll be motivated by more than cake, Lexie,” Drake said teasingly as he served them the food; he had prepared his Saturday special: Belgian waffles with Nutella and fresh bananas.
Alexis gave him a sultry kiss and whispered in his ear, “Finishing what you started this morning is definitely motivation number one.”
Drake blushed. God, she loved him so much it hurt. “You look cute blushing, Mr. Walker.”
He chuckled. “I love you, Mrs. Walker.”
They ate and talked until Alexis’s phone beeped with a message. “Fuck, Drake! It’s Charlie; her car is picking me up in less than 10 minutes.”
Drake smirked. “A dollar in the jar, baby. And I’d like to remind you that you’re losing,” he added smugly.
Alexis stuck her tongue out at him, making Tom laugh. She took a bill out of her wallet and put it in the jar they had placed in the kitchen. They were both trying to stop swearing in front of Tom. Surprisingly enough, Drake was much better at it than she was.
After fetching her bag and coat, she sat on her husband’s lap, looping her arms around his neck. “I have to go -- please take care of our baby. I’m going to miss you two like crazy.”
He gave her a small peck on her nose. “Me too, Lexie, and don’t worry. We’ll see each other tomorrow night. Right, little man? Are you ready to have an adventure with your dad?”
“Yes, an aventure!” Tom exclaimed, beaming and making his parents laugh.
After saying goodbye to Drake with a deep kiss, Alexis took Tom out of his chair and bounced him around, making him giggle. “You behave, Peanut. I will be thinking about you,” she said, rubbing his stomach. “I love you so, so much, my baby.”
Tom placed his small hands on her face. “Me too, Mommy.” Her heart tugged when she put her little boy back in his chair. She was having more trouble than usual saying goodbye.
Drake smiled at the scene. He scooped Tom up into his arms, and they went to the door to wave Alexis goodbye as her car drove away.
Alexis worked hard that day; Charlie was a great but demanding boss. That night, she went to bed with The Goldfinch, Donna Tart’s latest novel. Tart was one of her favorite authors, but she was unable to focus on the story. Alexis finally closed the book and unplugged her phone. Scrolling through The Cordonian Times News website, she saw that a huge storm was about to hit Ramsford. She decided to call Drake.
“Hi, baby. How was the Fair?” he asked.
“Great! You know Charlie. She’s a shark. Three new writers will be signing their contracts next week.” She toyed with her ring before adding, “I just saw that it was rainy as hell in Ramsford.”
“Yeah, the storm is pretty shitty, but I’m a good driver, Lexie. Don’t worry.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay at Ramsford tonight? It’s safer. Please?” she insisted.
“Yes, I’m sure. But please don’t worry, baby. I’ll be careful,” he answered, smiling. She worried too much about them.
Alexis knew better than to insist; Drake was even more stubborn than her. “Fine. Is our Peanut having fun? Did you take pictures?”
“Yes, lots of pictures. I’ll send them when we hang up. He’s napping now, but Max and Liam played with him all afternoon. I swear, I don’t know which of the three of them was having more fun.” Alexis giggled, making Drake terribly nostalgic. “I miss you so much, baby. I can’t wait to see you tomorrow.”
Alexis looked at the picture of them that she kept in her wallet. “Me too, Drake. And I’m glad that Tom is having so much fun. Tell him I love him with all my heart. I’m sorry he’s napping; I was hoping to talk to him.” She sighed, before adding, with a hint of worry in her voice, “Drake, please be careful. Don’t leave Ramsford if it’s raining too much.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll call you when we get there. I love you like crazy, Lexie.”
“I love you like crazy too, Drake. I can’t wait to see you tomorrow.” Both of them hung up the phone smiling.
Drake looked out the window. The storm had calmed down, but it was still raining. He decided to leave anyway; he was a good driver, and the cabin wasn’t far from Ramsford.
He secured Tom in his car seat and left.
They had been on the road for half an hour when Drake took a sharp curve. It happened in a matter of seconds: The wet road caused the Jeep’s tires to slide; Drake reacted fast and was able to regain control of his car.
But the car behind Drake’s didn’t react so quickly. The gray sedan crashed into Drake’s Jeep on the right side ... where Tom was sleeping.
Alexis had fallen asleep with her phone in her hand. She woke up and checked the time: 11:30.
That was weird; Drake should have called her by now. Alexis called Drake, but it went straight to voicemail.
An uneasy feeling took over. She called Savannah, who told her that Drake had left Ramsford around 9:30. She suggested that maybe they had arrived at the cabin and fallen asleep. Alexis thanked her and hung up. She knew Drake by heart -- he would never go to sleep without calling her first. She opened a bottle of water trying to calm herself. She was surely overreacting.
Suddenly, her phone rang, startling her: an unknown number. Alexis took a sharp breath before answering the call that would change her life.
“Hello?”
“Good evening. Am I speaking with Alexis Walker?”
“Yes, this is she.” Ice settled in her stomach.
“Mrs. Walker, this is Lynn from Ramsford Hospital. Your husband and son were involved in a car accident tonight. Are you able to come right now?”
Alexis couldn’t speak, couldn’t breathe. “Hello?” She swallowed. “Yes. I’ll be there. Are -- are they safe?” “Your little boy is in surgery. Your husband is being checked by a doctor. We’ll have more information when you arrive, Mrs. Walker.”
“Th-thank you.”
But the woman had already hung up.
Charlie insisted that Alexis take her car and driver. Alexis accepted and left immediately.  The questions and uncertainty were killing her. During the torturous four-hour drive, she didn’t stop bargaining. If they’re okay, I will never complain again. I promise, God, I’ll never take them for granted. If you let them live, I’ll come to church every Sunday. Every day. I swear. Please, God, just let them be fine. Please, I beg you.
Alexis arrived at Ramsford Hospital around 4:00. She had practically jumped out of the car and run to the reception desk. She saw Maxwell and Liam sitting in the waiting room.
“Where are they? How are they?” Alexis realized how hysterical she sounded, but she didn’t care.
“Blossom! Thank God you’re here! Drake is fine; he suffered a small concussion and some bruises, but he’ll be fine.”
Alexis nodded, terrified of asking about Tom. Maxwell took a sharp breath before speaking. “Tom has been in surgery for a few hours ... the doctor will come out with an update soon.”
She nodded again, feeling a sudden need to see Drake. “Take me to Drake, Max. Please. I need to make sure he’s fine.”
Drake was sitting on a bed in the ER with Savannah. His eyes were red and puffy. He had scratches and bruises all over his face and arms, and a doctor had patched up his head with a bandage.
Alexis ran to him, intensely relieved to confirm that he was okay. Drake stood up and hugged her tightly, his eyes tearing up again. Alexis had never seen her usually-confident husband in such a state of desperation. It scared her to death.
“I’m sorry, baby. I’m so sorry. He has been in surgery for hours.” His voice broke. “They won’t tell me what’s going on!”
Drake wrapped his arms around her; she sobbed against his chest for a long time, waiting for the doctor to come. After a few more hours, the surgeon and a young nurse entered the ER. Drake was facing the door, so he saw them before her. His heart stopped.
The doctor’s expression told him everything he needed to know.
Drake held Alexis tighter, trying to shield her with his arms for a few more seconds from the pain they were about to experience.
The doctor cleared his throat. Alexis turned her head, trembling, unable to breathe. He took his cap off and held it in his hand.
“I’m very sorry. We did everything we could, but-”
Alexis shook her head. “No, no, no, no!” She didn’t realize she was screaming. “Don’t say it! No! It's a mistake.” She turned to Drake, crying hysterically. “Drake, please tell me that Tom is ok. Please, my love. I beg you.”
Drake held her, but he was shaking himself; he felt his heart actually breaking. “I’m sorry, baby. I’m so sorry,” he said, crying. He was trying to calm Alexis, but his words had the opposite effect. She bawled desperately. Her heart seemed to pound even faster, even harder. She tried taking a deep breath to calm herself, but her breaths were sharp and shallow. Her vision got darker and narrower.  She heard Drake’s panicked voice as if he was talking to her from a long distance. She barely felt a nurse injecting a sedative into her arm … and then everything went dark.
Alexis woke up, and for a few seconds she didn’t remember. But when she opened her eyes, the sight of the fluorescent light in the ceiling brought everything back. Her heart broke all over again as it would break so many times in the future. Drake was sitting on a chair next to her. He hadn’t slept all night as his eyes stared at his phone, looking at Tom’s last pictures. He heard Alexis moving on the bed, so he went to sit next to her and took her in his arms. She hid in his chest and cried again while he soothed her, rubbing her face with his fingers. Alexis couldn’t believe that she would never see her little boy again. It simply couldn’t be true.
“I want to see him.” Her voice was trembling.
“They were waiting for you before … before taking him. Let’s go.” He helped her out of bed and called a nurse who took them to see Tom one last time.
Those last moments with their son were the saddest moments of Alexis’ and Drake’s lives. Alexis refused to let go of him until a nurse gave her another sedative.
Alexis spent the first four weeks after Tom’s death sedated. She went to his funeral, but she wasn’t really present. Drake took care of everything with Savannah's and Liam’s help. After the ceremony, she went back to bed and lay there for hours staring at the ceiling. The pills had the side effect of making her feel empty and numb, but at least the pain in her heart was silent. Drake fed her and took care of her during that time.
After Tom’s death, nothing seemed to matter anymore. Drake’s emotions were a mix of sorrow, emptiness and desperation. The “what if”s were going to make him crazy with guilt. He tried to use alcohol to drown his shame and grief, but it didn’t work. Nothing worked.
Five weeks after Tom’s death, Alexis heard a noise in the middle of the night. She got out of bed and found Drake crying in Tom’s room. Her heart tugged seeing him so broken. She sat on the floor next to him and hugged him. They held each other for hours, crying for their son.
From that day on, Alexis started to get out of bed. She stopped taking the sedatives and promised herself that she would try to fight for herself and Drake. It worked for a couple of days, but soon the mere effort of waking up in the morning was exhausting. Everything was exhausting. Alexis did it anyway. She’d wake up, take a shower and go to Tom’s room. She only meant to spend a couple of hours there, but once she went inside, she wasn’t able to leave. And more often than not, the whole day passed with her crying there, incapable of doing anything else.
Drake was destroyed too. Tom had been the light of his life. Sometimes he felt like a sunken ship.
During the second month after his death, they shared some afternoons where they’d cuddled against each other in front of the fire without speaking, just trying to cope with the deep pain. Those few stolen moments were Drake’s and Alexis’ solace. But they were unable to really communicate, to speak of the bubbling feelings beneath the surface.
Without the pills, Alexis’ mind wasn’t foggy anymore. She felt a deep, breaking pain in her heart and a colossal rage circulating through her veins. At first, her bitterness was directed at God, at life, at fate. But soon, Alexis started to be angry at Drake, too. She tried with all her heart to stop those feelings, but she couldn’t. Drake had chosen to drive in the middle of the storm, after she had asked him to stay in Ramsford. And that had cost her son his life.
Alexis didn’t want to hurt him or to add to his guilt, so she started to avoid him as much as possible. It didn’t work. Drake’s way to cope with his own grief was to take care of her. He truly believed that their love would be enough to keep them together, and for a fleeting moment, Alexis had believed it too.
The rage that Alexis felt for him began as a small spark, but it had soon turned into a burning fire that scared her. She was distant and cold and did everything she could to drive him away.
Drake tried his best to make her feel better. He had even suggested visiting a counselor or joining a grief group. The same Drake Walker who hated to share or talk about his feelings was willing to do it for her. They went once, and it was a disaster. Drake had tried to share a memory of Tom, but the words simply didn’t come out. Alexis had brooded and scowled the whole time.
Alexis felt like she was going to explode with all the emotions she was feeling. She became rude, evasive. She ended up moving into the guest room. Drake was desperate; he tried to make her understand that he loved her, that he needed her.
It was the three-month anniversary of Tom’s death. After yet another sleepless night, she went to Tom’s room. She lay in his tiny bed and cried all day. Drake tried to comfort her, to hold her. But she had chased him away, more haunted than ever by his brown eyes. That night, she had come down to the living room and saw Drake drinking. Alexis sat next to him and poured herself a big glass of whiskey. She gulped it, poured herself another one and gulped it, too.
“I can’t do this anymore, Drake.” Alexis was crying wholeheartedly.
Drake sighed as he looked at her. She had lost 10 pounds and looked tired, pale, extremely depressed. It was the first time since they had met that he didn’t dare take her into his arms. “We need to get help, Lexie.”
Alexis scoffed, “Do you mean like that amazing support group you signed us for?”
For three months, Drake had tried to be supportive and patient. But he felt lost and tired;he didn’t know what to do anymore.
He gulped his tumbler of whiskey before he answered, “I’m doing what I can to help you, Lexie. But you won’t let me. I want us to fight this together.”
Alexis balled her fists. All the feelings that had been accumulating for the last months were threatening to explode.
“I don’t need anyone’s help.” She felt like burning inside. “Especially not yours.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean, Alexis?” Drake stood up next to her.
When she finally answered, her voice was trembling with fury. “Why?”
“What do you mean?” Drake asked, puzzled.
Alexis’s eyes filled with tears. “Why did you have to come back that night? Why couldn’t you listen to me? I told you it was raining, I told you it wasn’t safe.” Something dark and dangerous had taken over her, and she couldn’t stop. “But no. You always have to be right, so you couldn’t do what I asked. And now he’s dead. MY SON IS DEAD because you’re too fucking stubborn.”
Drake raised his voice, too. “OUR son, Alexis. TOM was OUR son. I miss him just as much as you do. Stop acting like you’re the only one who lost him.” He sighed to calm himself. He raised a hand to touch Alexis’ face, but she dodged it. “You have no fucking idea how it feels when I try to get close to you and you reject me every goddamn time.”
Alexis tried to wipe her tears with the back of her hand. She answered, furious, “Can’t you understand that looking at you fucking hurts? Every time I see your eyes, I see him. And it’s driving me crazy. It breaks my heart every single time.” She took a swig of whiskey to calm herself, but it didn’t help. “You can’t help me; you’re actually hurting me.”
“You don’t know what you’re saying. You’re drunk,” Drake stated, pointing at her glass.
“Yes, I am drunk. But that doesn’t change the fact that it hurts so fucking badly, Drake. Why? Why did you do it?” She shoved him.
“Stop!” He grabbed her wrists. He couldn’t believe what she was implying. “Stop it, Alexis!”
She was bawling, agitated. She wanted to take the weight of her emotions off her chest, so she yelled at him without thinking. “You killed him! You killed our son, and I will never be able to forget that.” As soon as she said it, she regretted it. But it was too late.
Everything went silent for a few seconds. Drake’s mouth went dry. His heart stopped. Every time her eyes darted when she looked at him, or every time she flinched when he touched her, he wondered if she blamed him for the accident. But until that moment, he had refused to actually believe it.
Letting go of her wrists, he grabbed the bottle of whiskey and his glass. He spoke with a gravelly voice. “You’re drunk, I’m drunk. We’ll talk in the morning.”
Alexis swallowed her tears so she could talk. “No, Drake. I’m very sorry for what I just said. You have no idea how much, but I can’t do this anymore. I’ll be gone in the morning.”
“You don’t know what you’re saying. We’ll talk tomorrow.” Drake went up the stairs. The weight of her words oppressed him. He lay down on the bed and tried to drink his pain away.
Alexis stood in the middle of the living room hating herself for hurting him. She didn’t want to feel so angry at him, but the rage was stronger than her. She curled up on the couch and cried for a long time -- for her son, for the horrible pain of missing him so much. And for Drake, for the man she loved so desperately but was unable to forgive. Alexis needed to leave, to flee from their house, from the grief. She prepared a small bag with some clothes she had in the guest room. Before leaving, she went to their room where Drake was sleeping heavily after finishing the bottle of whiskey. Crying again, her heart broken, she kissed his forehead and muttered a sad good-bye. She took off her wedding rings and set them on the nightstand. Drake needed to understand that she wasn’t going to come back for a while.
When she arrived at Maxwell’s loft, she took her old sedatives from her bag. Now that Alexis was away from Drake, she didn’t need to fight anymore. She was exhausted from pretending that she wanted to be alive. So she took two pills with a glass of water and finally fell asleep.
For almost two days, thanks to the sedatives, Alexis didn’t do much besides sleeping and waking in a fog to drink a bit of water. She was exhausted after all the sleepless nights she had had since her son had died. Maxwell checked up on her regularly, but he let her rest. On the third day, he entered her room with a steaming cup of coffee.
“Here, Blossom.”
Alexis grabbed the cup and took a sip. “Thank you, Max.” Her eyes teared up.
Maxwell sat next to her and put his arm around her shoulder. “What happened with Drake, Blossom?” he asked, concerned.
“It was my fault. I’m so angry all the time, Max.” She wrapped her arms around herself. “I tried not to be -- I really did -- but that night, something snapped. I said horrible things to him. And the worst part is that I love him so much, but I can’t stop feeling like that.” Her lip quivered. “I didn’t want to hurt him like I did. I swear, Max. He looked so broken.” The memory made her cry again.
“Calm down, Blossom. You need to talk to him. Even if it’s a painful conversation, you need to talk. Drake has called several times since yesterday; he’s worried about you. I’ll take you back to the cabin.”
Alexis was utterly confused. She didn’t know if their relationship could be saved. She didn’t know if she would be able to overcome her bitterness. But she still loved him with everything in her, and she owed it to Drake and herself to at least try.
“Thanks, Max. I’ll take a shower and then we can leave.”
When Alexis arrived at their cabin, everything was silent. With a huge lump in her throat, she went upstairs. Drake was gone. He had taken some clothes, photos, and her wedding rings. Alexis sat in their bed and cried for everything she had lost. The next day, she left the cabin and rented a small studio with her savings. After that day, her grief became more and more difficult to bear.
Drake woke up the morning after the fight feeling dead inside. His desperation only got deeper when he discovered that Alexis had disappeared, leaving her wedding rings on the nightstand. Drake spent all morning trying desperately to find her, until Maxwell finally answered his phone and told him that Alexis was at his house, that she needed time.
During those two days, Drake called Alexis several times, but every time, Maxwell told him that she was sleeping. Drake knew that it was a lie; Alexis barely slept more than a few hours a night. He thought about going to Max’s loft but dismissed the idea. It was pointless to force her.
Her words replayed in his head over and over again. Looking at you fucking hurts. It breaks my heart every single time. You’re actually hurting me. You killed my son. Drake felt the weight of his guilt crushing him
Forty-eight hours later, Alexis hadn’t contacted him or answered his calls. With her wedding rings wrapped in his hand, Drake realized that it was time to accept that she had really left him. He couldn’t stay there. He was going to die if he had to keep living alone in the cabin where they had been so fucking happy. Alexis was everywhere. Tom was everywhere. The next day, he tried to call her one last time, but she didn’t answer. Drake didn’t insist anymore. He left for Spain, destroyed. Before getting on the plane, he called Liam to ask him to take care of Alexis; Drake knew his best friend wouldn’t fail him.
After three hellish months in Andalucía, Olivia had called him to tell him how desperately depressed Alexis was. Drake immediately tried to fly back to Cordonia to be with her, but he had only found tickets for the next morning. That single night changed everything. Drake had been arrested and sent to prison. He asked Bastien and Savannah to keep his secret because he didn’t want to worry Alexis or distract Liam from helping her.
Drake felt desperate knowing that he couldn’t help her himself. Savannah and Bastien visited him often, but no matter how much he insisted, they never talked about Alexis. Drake sensed that they were hiding something, but it wasn’t until his release that his sister had told him the truth: Alexis had been committed to a clinic after she had tried to kill herself.
Drake didn’t lose any time and jumped on the first plane back to Cordonia to be with her. Sick with worry, Drake didn’t even go to his house to leave his bag; he had gone from the airport directly to the clinic.
When Drake had seen Liam at the hospital, he was relieved to confirm that his best friend had kept his promise; Alexis hadn’t been alone. Liam had known nothing about his stay in prison, so Drake wasn’t surprised at his best friend’s cold reception. The only thing that mattered to Drake at that moment was Alexis. Seeing her again had been the only thing that had kept him alive.
Drake would never forgive himself for all those months that Alexis had been forced to fight her depression alone, without him there to help her. If she gave him another chance, Drake would spend the rest of his life showing her how much he regretted it, how much he loved her.
Liam had asked him to come back the next day. Apparently, Alexis needed time to get used to the idea of seeing him again. Drake accepted willingly. He was desperate to see Alexis, but her recovery was the absolute priority.
But the next day, things didn’t go as he had hoped.
“You left a broken woman, Drake. She has been in hell, depressed and missing you for months. You have no right to come back and burst into her life, now that she’s finally doing better.” Liam cleared his throat. “She told me she doesn’t want to see you anymore. I’d say I’m sorry, but frankly, I agree with her decision,” Liam said, taking an envelope from his jacket and giving it to him. “This is the letter she wrote to you before she tried to kill herself. I didn’t read it, but I know she was desperate. Seeing you again will trigger her and probably set her recovery back months.  If you still want to see her after you read this, call me, and I’ll talk to her. But for Alexis’ sake, I really hope you won’t insist anymore.”
Drake sat on a bench and opened the letter.
Drake, my love,
Before anything else, I beg you to forgive me. For all of it: blaming you. The words I said. This.
I blamed you for the accident and I drove you away.
It was never your fault. I knew that all along.
And now? I have nothing. There is nothing without him. I have walked through the last seven months in a fog of desperation, and I can’t do it anymore.
I don't even want to try.
Please move on. Live your life. Be strong the way I cannot be.
It is what he would have wanted.
I have always loved you, with everything in me.
Your Lexie
Drake sat on the park bench and read her letter several times. It was devastating. Picturing her grief, her pain, in his mind was hard enough. But having to face it, having to read firsthand how broken the love of his life had been, was more than Drake could handle.
In spite of what Alexis said in her letter, Drake knew that Tom’s death was his fault. He was also aware that Liam was lying. Drake was sure that Alexis didn’t know that he was looking for her. But Liam was right; after all she had suffered, nothing was worth jeopardizing her recovery for -- least of all him. Drake hadn’t even gone back to his cabin that night. He went to the cemetery first to visit his son’s grave. Then he left directly for the airport, headed back to Spain.
His first year back in Andalucía had been a nightmare. Until then, Drake had stupidly clung to the idea of seeing Alexis again. She had been his motivation to stop drinking, to get help from the prison counselor. Her face was the last thing he saw before falling asleep every night. After all that hope, Drake had a rough time accepting that he had lost her forever.
For a few months, Drake went back to his old bad behaviors and heavy drinking. But one night, reading her letter for the hundredth time, he realized that Alexis was right. Tom would have wanted him to move on. Drake couldn’t continue to hide behind his grief anymore. He suddenly felt the urge to fight for himself. Little by little, he tried to get better. He couldn’t practice as a veterinarian in Spain, so he took a job in a stable training horses and moved out of Bastien’s house into his own apartment. And most importantly, he stopped day drinking.
Drake knew himself; he was never going to love another woman as he loved Alexis. Some nights, he’d go out, meet a beautiful woman, and they’d have fun together, but it never went further than a good night and breakfast.
One afternoon, he met Yolanda at the stables; she was a veterinarian too. Yola, as her friends called her, was a short brunette with pretty green eyes and a wide smile.
Something about her made him think of Alexis. Yolanda wasn’t as sunny as his Lexie, but she was beautiful, funny and smart. Like Alexis, she seemed to love life, and that was contagious. They dated for a few months, but Drake soon realized that he was only trying to replace Alexis with Yolanda, and that wasn’t fair to her. He ended the relationship before her feelings became too strong and resumed his life of endless one-night stands.
Drake’s life was finally back on track when he had received the news of Alexis and Liam’s engagement. It had been a complete shock. In the past, Drake had suspected that Liam was in love with his wife, but he would never have imagined that Liam’s feelings were reciprocated. Drake was well aware that Alexis had every right to rebuild her life, to fall in love. He knew that it was his own fault that Alexis hadn’t even tried to call him and give him the news herself, but the rage was still there. During the weeks that followed, Drake couldn’t avoid the horrible jealousy that was threatening to eat him up. He kept picturing them together and it drove him mad. Until one day, talking to Savannah, he realized that it was time to let Alexis go.
For three years he had lived as an exile in Andalucía so Alexis wouldn’t have to see him again. But she was clearly over him now. Maybe it was time to come back. Drake missed Savannah and Bartie, his country and his veterinary career. So he decided to stop fleeing. He wanted to see Alexis again and make sure she was all right. After that, they’d sign the divorce papers, and he would finally be able to move on with his life.
However, when he saw Alexis again, all of his good resolutions went out the window. Drake had felt angry and jealous seeing Liam’s diamond ring on her finger. In the weeks that followed that encounter, Drake had felt unstable and confused … until the last day at the coffeehouse.
April 2019
Alexis left the coffeehouse frustrated and angry at herself. She couldn’t believe that Drake’s touch was still capable of making her feel that nervous. She got in her car and started the engine. After all that time and the tears that she had shed trying to forget about him, she had finally done it. And she was not going to go down that path, not ever again. To love someone as passionately and as intensely as she had loved Drake wasn’t right or healthy. It was painful and heartbreaking. His departure had nearly killed her. Alexis was aware that Drake had left because of the hideous things she had told him, but she still had waited for him for years, convinced that their love for each other would make him come back. But it didn’t. And now, she was happy again. Liam made her happy. He was sweet, kind and smart. A great lover. He accepted her shortcomings, her traumas. Alexis couldn’t ask for more. She refused to let Drake disturb her life. Whatever feelings she was having for him again, was surely due to their lack of closure. The only thing that should matter to her now was her engagement to Liam. They were going to get married in a month. Liam deserved nothing less than her fidelity and devotion.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drake was shaken after his encounter with Alexis at the coffeehouse. Even hours later, he could still feel her skin on the tip of his fingers. He sat with a whiskey in his hand, thinking about her reaction. As stupid as it seemed, he was sure that Alexis had felt the same powerful electricity that he did. They still shared their old chemistry, even when they had fought at Savannah’s party; it had been heated, passionate. He savored the malty liquid burning his throat as he thought about how gorgeous she was. For the first time since he had seen her again, Drake allowed himself to freely think about her -- her beautiful dark eyes, her soft features, the way she flicked her hair. The old sparkle of her eyes was still there; it was hidden behind a shadow of sadness, but it was still there. That afternoon, Drake had had to actively stop himself from kissing her.
There was no point in lying to himself any longer; he was still desperately in love with Alexis, even more than before. Drake admired her new strength, her determination to fight in spite of the pain. He missed her sarcasm, her sense of humor, the way she always put him in his place. He was as captivated by her mix of sweet vulnerability and intense fire as he had been 10 years before. God he had missed her so fucking much all those years. Drake was destined to love Alexis for the rest of his life.
However, the last thing he wanted to do was to disturb her life. So Drake made a decision. If Alexis was truly happy with Liam and her new life, as much as it killed him, he would sign the divorce papers and leave her alone. Even if that meant that he’d have to spend his life loving her from a distance. But if he discovered that she still loved him too but was too scared to admit it -- if there was a chance that he could still save his marriage -- Drake wasn’t going to leave without fighting for her.
