Chaotic Hose Instability
Tumblr media
Steve Mould is back with another video looking at wild fluid behaviors. This time he's considering hose instabilities like the one that makes a water-carrying hose beyond a certain length to whip wildly back and forth.  (Video and image credit: S. Mould) Read the full article

Extended Greeting by Noah-Wave
🤝 Sometimes people expect to get up close and personal with the famous Phlex, but then she does this. Usually she has every plan to move closer and talk to them from a normal distance, but sometimes she leads with this gag to put them off balance for a moment, the mischief-maker she is! Really, it's just another excuse to show off how stretchy she is, which is obvious to anyone familiar with her - she will rarely allow a social interaction to go by where she does NOT remind the other party that she's a Bendy. This was an off-the-cuff dumb idea I sent to Noah-Wave before bed, and apparently he felt compelled to draw it, so I shot him some cash to make it a line-art comm! He did a great job on the perspective, as well as Phoebe's design and proportions in the top pic, and her simplified silly smile in the bottom pic! Hope you enjoy! ~ Bonkie

A unique propagation phenomenon of acoustic waves has been discovered, paving the way for developing advanced communication technologies using acoustic devices. The research was led by the Institute for Materials Research at Tohoku University, in collaboration with the Japan Atomic Energy Agency and the RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science. Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) -- elastic vibrations that travel along the surface of materials like ripples on a pond -- play a crucial role in modern communication technologies. These are key components in frequency filters used in everyday devices such as mobile phones. These devices convert electrical signals into vibrations, or "ripples," through the piezoelectric effect, enabling efficient signal processing. Therefore, a deeper understanding of SAW behaviour is essential for advancing future technologies.

Can I ask for a QM between Elasticity & Permeation? I feel like there's a lot that can be done here, especially with Permeation's repelling effect.
Now I really want to see these two fight. Mostly because it'd be so funny and bizarre to see how they'd interact as fighters and as people.
New Quirk Name: Passby or Free Access
This Emitter type Quirk activates whenever the user touches an object. When they do, they can make the object intangible. While the object seems normal on the surface, this can let anything and anyone pass through it. The user can be selective with this, like only changing part of a door to take it off its hinges, and may target anything up to the size of a car. Anything that is inside of a target object when it returns to normal will be pushed out of it. This gives the user a good mix of options, allowing them to confuse and play their enemies with suddenly intangible items. They can bypass enemy defenses, help clear dangerous debris, peek into foes' personal spaces to gather info, hide objects inside of the intangible to use it like a timed trap, carefully steal objects from secure locations, create odd combinations of partially intangible items, or simply keep their precious objects safe from harm. Though this only works on solid objects and not people. The user cannot control when the objects return to normal, potentially being used against them. The user will need to account for the various objects they changed and how objects will interact, which could take some time and practice to grasp.

"Bulging Balloons"

This planet-like balloon started out as two elastomer sheets, heat-sealed together into a spiraling tube. As the balloon was inflated, it changed from flat to a saddle-like shape. (Image credit: N. Vani et al.) Read the full article

Mega Mouse rescues experiment subject
MEGA MOUSE JOURNAL RESCUE FOR PROJECT MUTATION EXPERIMENTS
The files I discovered at Evancore revealed experiments far exceeding all ethical and moral boundaries. They were splicing prototypes of my replicated experiments with human embryos to test inherited genes.
These poor children are basically living guinea pigs to test their formula's stability and side effects. I needed to save them and give them a chance at a normal life.
I knew that breaking in and grabbing one of the children would set off the alarm. Thanks to previous experiments and quick wits, I was able to use my hand as a protective shield after being ambushed.
While I could escape without trouble - the child added complexity. I needed to find a way to suppress the onslaught, without putting them in danger.
I was running out of ideas.

Fused Frenemies A.A
The fused frenemies have legs again! But not as many as they used to... ---- Continued from Fused Frenemies A... As their fused flesh started to burble again, Sophie looked at Phoebe with a flat-browed grimace. "You'd win the 'speaking too soon' contest, Phoebe." Phoebe smiled sheepishly with a shrug. The pair watched as their seam started to bulge upward, seeming to swallow their flanks as it went. The two of them each felt one of their arms being pulled into the rising mass as well, Sophie her right arm, Phoebe her left.  "Wait no, that's--" Sophie started to protest, but it was too late, and hers and Phoebe's shoulder violently contracted into the seam, and as their body slinked back out to normal length, they realized it was just that - their body, singular. They each had one arm and one leg, joined from their necks down. They both elongated their necks to take a better look at their sharing situation. "Great, just perfect," Sophie grumbled, holding her arm out for balance. "How about now, Phoebe? Do you finally think this is a problem? Oh pray tell." Phoebe looked up at Sophie, startled and seemingly caught off guard. She had been poking their belly right on their seam, wanting to see what it felt like to poke both herself and Sophie at the same time. Sophie glanced at her finger, raising an eyebrow. "Oh um, yeah, I suppose this is becoming a problem, eh?" Phoebe agreed quietly. "Oh wow, thanks! I'm glad you finally agree, dumbass!" Sophie berated her. "Now what, lemon-brain?" Phoebe put her finger to her chin to think, and as she folder her arm across her chest to do so, Sophie tried to ignore the feeling of Phoebe's boob rubbing against her own as she waited for Phoebe to answer. ---- NEXT - CHOOSE ONE: A. They finish "zipping" together, even their head now split down the middle! B. Phoebe suggests that they try to pull apart down the middle! C. Their condition seems to have stabilized, and they can apparently share their body's feelings and control seamlessly... ---- Thanks to Noah-Wave for doing this comm for me! You should check him out, because he does awesome stuff! : D Hope you enjoy! ~ Bonkie

Flexible crystals reveal secrets of elasticity
Australian scientists have gained new insights into the fundamental behavior of flexible materials, allowing for the design of new building materials and technology. The work has been published in Nature Materials. A team involving researchers at The University of Queensland and QUT has identified the origin of the restoring force that lets elastic crystals return to their original shape. Professor Jack Clegg from UQ's School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences said the team bent flexible crystals—including one developed at UQ which can be tied in a knot—to calculate how intermolecular interactions changed under compressive and expansive strain.
