#Election Statement

Since I’m not seeing many posts about what’s happening in Venezuela, I will make one myself. Please do not turn a blind eye to their ongoing crisis.

First I will put you into context, please note that all this information is taken from posts, threads and statements made by Venezuelans so I will hyperlink each one of my sources.

From 2002 to 2013, Hugo Chávez was the president of Venezuela. Not only did he ruin the country’s economy, imprison people and remove liberty of speech in the country, but he also changed the constitution, allowing unlimited reelection. His regime became a dictatorship disguised as a democracy. Here’s an entire page about this period. (And you can read more searching “chavismo”)

After his death in 2013, Nicolás Maduro took the presidency. Venezuelans started protesting and, as a response, they were repressed and killed, universities were burned down and Venezuela became massively poor, people lacked basic needs (supermarkets were empty, increasing famine and malnutrition), hospitals lacked resources and, consequently, illnesses spread and infant mortality rates increased severely.

This Sunday, July 28th, 2024, elections were held and Venezuelans voted for Edmundo González to be the next president of the country. Exit polls expected him to win the elections.

Later, the revealed results were that Maduro had won with the 51,2% votes, while Edmundo González had only 44,2%. But, as of right now, already 75% of the electoral records confirm that Edmundo González was, in fact, the chosen candidate, meaning that Maduro once again cheated on the elections. This is electoral fraud. This is not a democracy, this is a dictatorship.

Now, Venezuelans are protesting and the government are once again repressing them. Civilians are being persecuted, attacked and killed. Innocent people are being arrested. The government is cutting their communication and are planning on cutting the electricity next.

I urge you to check this thread on Twitter by @/postmortemria. Her account is full of information about Venezuela and their crisis, please check her posts and share them to spread the voice. Try to raise Venezuelans’ voices and donate to them if you can.

At the moment, there aren’t many ways to help other than speaking up, but under this tweet you can find many talented artists and commissions are their way to make some money to pay for basic human needs. If you can, think about commissioning a piece or donating to them.

In addition, here’s another tweet with information to donate to the people affected in the protests. They’re in desperate need of assistance so anything can help.

🔴 Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:

Trump’s victory will reinforce the American anti-Palestinian approach, and the Democratic Party’s loss is a natural result of its direct involvement in the zionist war of genocide.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine affirms that Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s victory in the U.S. elections does not, in any way, signify a real change in the hostile approach that successive American administrations have pursued against our Palestinian people and their just cause. There is no fundamental difference between the Republican and Democratic parties; both have contributed to supporting the zionist entity and participated in the war of genocide against our people, whether through policies or unlimited military and diplomatic support.

Our people have never placed their hopes on any candidate from either the Democratic or Republican parties, as we have never witnessed any positive change in U.S. administration policies, which have consistently aligned fully with the zionist entity, providing it with military funding and all forms of political, legal, and diplomatic protection.

The Democratic Party’s loss is a logical result of its complicity with the zionist entity; it rejected calls from supporters of the Palestinian people, the Palestinian community, and Arab and Muslim communities in the United States to pressure for an end to the war of genocide in Gaza, continuing its support for aggression against our people. Today, the Democrats are paying the price for ignoring these demands at the ballot box.

We in the Popular Front do not expect any positive development from a Donald Trump administration; rather, we anticipate an escalation in hostile policies against our people, fully biased in favor of the zionist entity.

We call on supporters of the Palestinian people, as well as movements, organizations, and groups that stand with our cause in the United States, to intensify pressure on the new U.S. administration to end its support for the zionist entity.

We see in the popular and student movements that stand in solidarity with Gaza, along with the emergence of small, free voices and parties, a glimmer of hope that could contribute to even a slight change in the U.S. stance on our cause.

A Vow To Organize

This statement, written by me and signed by activists and organizers from across the United States, feels like an apt thing to share in the wake of everything going on.

"On Tuesday, November 5th, Donald Trump was reelected as the 47th President of the United States of America. Many of us hoped to see Kamala Harris become the first female President. Many of us woke up Wednesday feeling sad, upset, or let down. Many of us fought to propel her into office.

The President-elect ran on a campaign built from fear. He relied on promises about the persecution of LGBTQ+ people, dangerous mass-scale deportations, failed trickle-down economic policy, climate denial, and foreign diplomacy that jeopardizes the sovereignty and safety of the citizens of Ukraine and Gaza.

In the face of that, we have an important message. To the women in America—we love you. To the LGBTQ+ folk in America—we love you. To the people of color and the marginalized in America—we love you. Let our words stand as a deep and unwavering hug of warmth and safety to always protect our communities from hate and violence. Let our voices sing the song of justice and unity.

As youth activists and leaders from across the country, we represent the future of America. Democracy chose a candidate whose Project 2025 blueprint echoes the dark hallmarks of fascism.

Today, and everyday, we, the young people, vow to never let hate overcome the bedrocks of our American freedoms.

To all the young people, we must keep fighting, keep organizing, and keep leading—because in times of darkness, where the deck of hate seems stacked against us, we still have our wall of love. What makes us special is we recognize that the principles of America are built on hope. And with hope, anything is possible.

We are proud to be Americans, but we are going to fight for an America that is proud to have us in it.

An important thing to remember about the changes in government in the UK and France:

Labour won because the Conservative vote was split between the Tories and Reform UK.

The Left leaning parties in the French government came in first, because they put aside their differences and ran together in opposition to the Le Pen party.

Keep this in mind for the US election this November. Stay focused.
