i was so concerned about the secondary packaging for exporting calf hides & skin for my logistics project but it turns out it doesn't even have a secondary packaging. it's just the tertiary one that goes on the wooden pallet. i need to look into the materials for the packaging tomorrow but I already know I'm choosing the American pallet and since there is no secondary packaging, the cow skin is stacked on the pallet so I don't have to worry about the packaging measurements fitting strategically as it's all stacked.
#and of course no primary packaging as it's not going to a final consumer#only to the factory that produces the boots#i had to watch all the videos from official exporting companies of this#and read multiple documents

The Leaders | Chapter IX

"maybe a place where light and darkness meet, the choice between truth and lies is mine."
masterlist
ot8!ateez x f!reader, mafia au
chapter warnings: drinking, smoking, illegal businesses, mentions of war/military, drugs, gangs and corruption, impending doom arrives, first date with wooyo, lots of tension, smut mdni!! (fingering, oral f! receiving, p in v and all the good stuff).
chapter wc: 14.5k
chapter synopsis: with the illegal shipment and resultantly, the crescents under investigation, you are all on the move. despite the stressful and tense atmosphere, you manage a successful first date with wooyoung. jaebeom confirms that madame tiffany is involved with the elites and you confront hongjoong and seonghwa who remind you that the crescents are a power to be reckoned with. you learn the identity of the last anonymous funder but it threatens the weapons channel and the crescents gather to strategise. the night ends on an intimate note with yunho.

prev chapter recap: jaemin informs you that the sirens have turned on president lee because of his involvement with the hala official, major sung, who you learn from seonghwa is the pseudo-governor of strictland. you canât shake off the feeling that president lee might be involved with the elites. you go to the bar to confess to yeosang and he talks in detail about what being in a relationship with the boys entails. you understand and agree, finally sharing a kiss with him. the boys gather at the bar to congratulate you for officially becoming a leader, and you take the opportunity to tell them that you would like to be their partner as well. they welcome you and afterwards, you steal a romantic moment with yunho who tells you that there is trouble at the port. someone tipped the navy and they made the crescentâs illegal shipment of black shadow come back, which is odd because in doing so, the navy bends some international waters laws. you have a romantic moment with seonghwa before you go with his guard yuta, and jaemin to meet up with mingi to hide all the crescentâs illegal documents. you learn that mingi, san and jongho were in the same platoon as you during the war though you donât recognise each other.

Things had never been busier at the Crescent Companyâ at least not in the past couple of years since you became an employee of the business empire.
The office was, of course, the one that took the brunt of it. With the navyâs tip about the Crescentâs illegal trading now becoming a full-fledged case in the Edenary Station, which just so happened to be the biggest police station in Eden, a follow-up investigation was being carried out. You had to deal with a lot of investors wanting to opt out, inquiring about their safety when they were wholly aware that the Crescent Company was never a very moral and legal business to begin with. You were getting tired of convincing the investors that this tip wasnât something that could shut the business down when its foundations were still strong.
For how long, they wondered? That question nagged at your brain too. Technically, an illegal trading caught would only result in a trade ban with the concerned country, or worse, a total trade ban for a few years. If you were right, from what you had learned about the Crescents so far, they always had a second plan and a third in case things went south. You and everyone at the Crescent Office were aware of this, yet it hardly did anything to quell the chaos.Â
The Crescent Bar was as active as before, though with an influx of new customers hoping to get a whiff of what the Crescentâs future looked like. The warehouse, however, put a halt to most of its illegal production and was sticking with the legal and licensed business in case of a raid by the police. With the production slowing, the trading with Utopia was ultimately going to get affectedâ if the Crescents couldnât export the promised amount of weapons parts, they wouldnât get their share of Black Shadow, which would generate loss at the Bar too.
Hongjoong made sure to assure you that things like these happened all the time, though it couldnât be denied that the severity this time was perhaps greater. However, every business had to deal with losses. The important thing was to be able to recover from that, stand back up and keep functioning like normal. He was anxious, which was a given, but he was also navigating this catastrophe with an objectivity and a level-headedness that you were starting to admire.Â
It had been a good few days since you went to hide the official documents with Mingi. You were on standby at the office while Hongjoong and Seonghwa went out for a meeting with one of the RV spiesâ for some reason, the RV spies werenât ready to meet you. Or maybe, the boys did not want you to meet any of the RV spies considering the thing about these spies actively protecting you.Â
Yunho and Yeosang had been the only ones to tell you about the spiesâ role in your life, insisting that you did not need to worry about them but you couldnât help but wonderâ who were they? How closely were they watching you? And if they were watching you closely, why did they not protect you the uncountable times you were in danger?
Or had they protected you without your knowledge? They were spies and assassins for a reasonâ you wouldnât know if they were watching you right now. Whatever their reasons to protect you were, you couldnât help but feel exposed. No matter how much you tried to hide or live in the shadows, you were always under observation, and no matter how much you pondered, you couldnât come up with a reason strong enough to justify your circumstances.Â
You could finally understand why Hongjoong was adamant at bringing you out of the shadows. Now that you were in the light, things were slowly and certainly coming to a clarity and you could not wait to see the whole picture, even though the prospect of it sounded downright scary.
The silence in Hongjoongâs office room filled with the loud bell of the phone and you picked the receiver with your usual greeting, physically relaxing when Jaehyunâs voice greeted you instead of one of the investors.
âHow have you been?â You asked, leaning against the table. âWhatâs the news?â
âAll good. The news, well⊠we divided and conquered, Ten and I,â Jaehyun said and you hummed in response. âOur image does not look good, thatâs a given.â
âYeah, you can imagine how chaotic itâs been in the office,â you said.
âThe partners and investors are jumpy, yes, but I donât think this is the right time to pull out. They wonât, rest assured. However, theyâll try to find openings and try to target the business itself.â
âAhâŠâ you recalled Yunho talking about something like that a few days ago. âThat makes sense. Strike while the iron is hot.â
âExactly,â Jaehyun said. âIâve got some interesting proposals, though. General Wi is willing to help us in any way that he can, which is⊠odd but understandable. Heâs just trying to secure someone who will have his back at the time of the elections.â
âAnd heâs worried that his secrets might get leaked,â you added. âDoes he have any ideas?â
âHeâs looking into the source. We unfortunately could not find that out.â
You paused for a few moments, absently playing with the cord of the phone, before answering, âYeah, thatâs okay. If it was this easy to find out, they wouldnât have attempted this. Anything else?â
âYeah, thereâs one thing and it might be of importance,â Jaehyun began and you urged him to continue. He took a deep breath, âInspector Gong is looking into youâ your background, specifically.â
âInspector Gong?â You frowned, straightening. âWhy?â
âI thought youâd know?â Jaehyun asked. âMaybe because youâre a Crescent now? I mean, heâs aware of our history, but not yours. And itâs probably nothing, but I just thought you should know in case it is something.â
âThank you for letting me know,â you sighed. âActually, can you do me another favour and find out when exactly Inspector Gong was demoted to Sector 1?â
âOh, I can tell you that,â Jaehyun said. âSome time after President Han got assassinated. I remember because he was one of the few detectives hell bent on investigating officially, because a public assassination happened under his jurisdiction.â
âDid he ever get to the end of the case?â
âHe was demoted because the higher-ups wanted to close the case. President Lee apparently had his own private team because he couldnât trust the police force with this. It was a hot topic back in those days.â
âThat would be right after I came to Sector 1 tooâŠâ
For a few moments, you both had the receiver in your hands, listening to the static as you processed this information. It was Jaehyun who finally broke the silence and asked, âDo you think youâve encountered him while you were in Edenary? Before or after your stay in Wonderland?â
âI might have. A very high possibility. Iâm not sure if he remembers me, because I donât,â you admitted. âWhy would he look into me, though? And why now?â
âStrike while the iron is hot?â Jaehyun repeated. âHe might be doing this to target us. Heâs been after us for a long time.â
âYeah, well, I hope he finds something,â you scoffed. âIâd love to know what secrets I might be hiding.â
Jaehyun laughed, aware of your situation and your involvement with the business. âI think I should look into you too. We might find something of importance.â
âHa, ha, sure,â you shook your head. A knock sounded at the door and Seonghwa entered, settling on the couch when he noticed you were on call. âOkay, Iâve got to go now. Thank you for the update, Jaehyun. And do look into meâ specifically with Secretary Parkâs connection. Let me know if you find something new.â
âSure thing,â Jaehyun said, hanging up. You exhaled deeply and turned in your chair to look at Seonghwa who was stretching while trying his hardest to stifle a yawn. You were getting used to seeing that sight now.
âWas that Jaehyun?â Seonghwa asked.
âYeah. He didnât find the source, but Inspector Gong is looking into me these days.â
âI had a feeling he would when you went to see him with Hongjoong,â Seonghwa tsk-ed. âAnything else?â
âNothing. How did the meeting go?â
âAwful,â Seonghwa smiled in defeat. âThey donât know who the source is eitherâ or theyâre lying. It was cryptic but I think if they knew, they would have been gloating about it.â
âA person capable of putting the RV spies off their scentâŠâ You thought out loud. âWeâve had quite a few of those happenings recently. Makes me wonder if the RV spies are all that good.â
âOh, they are, trust me,â Seonghwa raised his brows for emphasis and you shrugged, not fully convinced. âBut youâre right. They might be losing their touchâ Hongjoong was sure to let them know. You can imagine what happened next.â
You curbed a smile at the prospect of Hongjoong talking back to the group of assassins but you would expect nothing less from him. A thought gnawed at you. âThe RV spies donât know about the anonymous weapons funderâs identity, right? Do you think that person could be the one who tipped the navy?â
Seonghwa folded his arms in thought. âWhoever did this⊠their goal must be to cause damage to our business, right? I think the funder would have been better off exposing our weapons channel, because there would be no coming back from that. Someone has a bigger problem with usâ at least, I think so. The timing of this⊠someone must be aware of our new deal and is trying to sabotage it.â
That made sense. You nodded slowly. âA mole?â
A topic everyone was avoiding talking out loud about, yet was being investigated cautiously. Seonghwa glanced at you, silently nodding.Â
You got up and went to sit beside him on the couch, your thighs brushing against each other. You poured him a drink and he accepted it, downing it in one gulp.Â
âHave you ever had a mole before?â
âA few, yes,â Seonghwa admitted. âI canât help but wonder if itâs someone from the inner circleâ someone we personally know. Usually, itâs someone new or a person with very strong opinions.â
âWhich is why the RV spies may not know who the source is,â you concluded. âBecause it might be an insider job.â
Seonghwa nodded grimly and you decided to change the topic, taking his hand and squeezing it in hopes of comforting him. âHow have you been?â
Seonghwaâs lips curled into a smile and he shifted to pull one leg over the couch, giving you his full attention. âIâm okay. How have you been?â
You suppressed a giggle at the way he searched your eyes. âIâve been well, thank you for asking, Mr. Park.â
âWould you like to go for dinner tomorrow night?â Seonghwa asked, pressing a kiss on your knuckles.
âYouâre just a few hours too late,â you let out a wistful sigh. âWooyoungâs booked me for tomorrow night.â
âCanât I join?â He pleaded and you raised a brow, knowing he very well could. Seonghwa shrugged. âHe wants you all to himself, a little one-on-one with you. Heâs never had that, right?â
âYeah,â you nodded. âIâm not too worried. He knows how to get me talking and Iâm really comfortable with him.â
âThatâs good,â Seonghwa smiled, taking a deep breath and looking down. âYou know, Iâve been wanting to take you out on dates too. I want to be a proper gentleman. Bring you your favourite flowers, take you out on walks. All I seem to do is give you more burden.âÂ
âThatâs work,â you corrected. âThatâs what we do. And itâs not like Iâve been doing this aloneâ weâre all in this together.â
Seonghwa sighed deeply, âI suppose you are right.â
You understood where he was coming from. âEven if weâre stuck up in this office room worried about and preparing for the worst case scenarios, youâve still been a gentleman. You bring me chocolates from the reception, a flower from the pot outsideââ
âI can do better than that,â Seonghwa interrupted with a laugh. âI just havenât had the chance.â
âI know,â you nodded. âBut I want you to know that you donât have to feel obliged to do that. You probably want to go out of your way because weâ weâre new, right? I donât see you doing that with the rest of your⊠lovers. With the boys.â
âThatâs because with them, itâs been a long timeâ and I do that with them too, just in private,â he confirmed and stifled a grin at the twinkle in your eyes. âYou canât stop me from doing that. It isnât because what we have is new, itâs because I want to. I want to treat you better because I know I can do better than this.â
You supposed that it made sense. âAlright, you can bring me an actual bouquet of flowers and treat me to a dinner date when we have time. So far, our dates have mostly happened in the office, huh?â You pondered. âI think we might be past the stage of wooing each otherâŠâ
âI havenât tried wooing you properly yet, though,â Seonghwa leaned in to whisper in your ear, making heat creep up your cheeks. âThereâs only so much you can do in the office room.â
You shook your head. âYou and Yunho⊠itâs the proximity getting to your heads, isnât it?â
âWhatever do you mean?â Seonghwa feigned innocence, earning a smack to his chest. âWhat did he do?â
âHeâs justâŠâ you brought your knees up, unable to meet his gaze as you recalled all the times Yunho got romantic in the office. âSo full of energy.â
Seonghwa laughed loudly. âHe is. I get worried if I see him tired.â
You turned to Seonghwa, your eyes brimming with curiosity. It had been a while since you got to talk to him about such mundane stuff, anything that was not work and business. Seonghwa leaned in to share a sweet kiss before straightening.
âAsk away. I know you must have a lot of questions.â
You inhaled deeply, wondering how to make sense of the tangle of questions that you were harbouring in your head for days now. Seonghwa rubbed your hand assuringly and waited until you were able to form the words.Â
âHow is it like having so many partners, Seonghwa? I mean⊠how does it work between you guys? It looks like you hardly have time for each otherâ especially these days.â
Seonghwa smiled knowingly. He knew this question was long coming and he was glad that you were opening up and asking himâ perhaps, hearing the answers would make you feel more at ease. He wanted to clear your confusions away as best as he could.
âItâs⊠great to have people I can depend on. People who have my back and who I can trust blindly,â he began and you smiled. It was truly a blessing to have utmost faith in someone, knowing you would never get hurt by them.
âAfter the war, we found each other over a period of time. I think some of us like San, Mingi and Jongho knew that we could never find a home except with each other. We all gladly accepted each otherâ as brothers and partners at first. As a family. We rebuilt Eden, starting from Sector 5 which took the worst of the war.â
âBecause of the Eight Hillsâ it borders Strictland and Halaland,â you recalled hearing news about Sector 5 long after the war was over and he hummed in confirmation.Â
âIt was a tough time, Iâll admit, and we naturally found a safe haven with each other. There was no judgement, no jealousy, no restrictions. We were one and we were each otherâs, yet free. It wasnât until we became a gang in â64 when we finally talked about it and realised that we would always want to be with each other.â
âThat⊠sounds beautiful, actually,â you whispered, in awe. âWas there really never a fight or some drama?â
âNot really. Someone would complain if they thought they werenât getting enough attention from someone else, but thatâs about it. We all lived together so it wasnât a big deal at all. We only got separate housing a couple years ago.â
âCan I ask why?âÂ
Seonghwa chuckled. âItâs hard to live with 7 men and take care of them all at once. It was a unanimous decision.â
âAnd⊠how did you pick your housemates?â You asked, intrigued.
Seonghwa stifled a grin. âHow do you think?â
âDonât tell me it was a random pick,â you narrowed your eyes but when he pursed his lips in guilty admission, you shook your head in disbelief. âI figuredâ you all make the most unbelievable bets when youâre drinking,â you commented. âCan I ask another thing?â
âSure,â Seonghwa looked at you with curiosity. âDonât hold back. Transparency is appreciated here, Luna.â
âAre the sparks still there? After all this time?â
It was such a candid question that Seonghwa found himself smiling, moving his hand to cup your face and caress your cheekbone, his heart bursting with affection at how your eyes were just a little wide as you anticipated his answer, looking like you were holding your breath.
âSounds like an important question, eh? Have you ever been in a relationship, Luna?â
âTried and failed. Very casual, but itâs been a while,â you told him and he nodded.
âDid you feel sparks?â He asked and you raised your brows at his counter-question, but you felt at easeâ there was no mockery in his tone.
âI think? You have to feel something in order to be with someone, right?âÂ
âI suppose thatâs true,â Seonghwa rested his head against the couch, tired. âWhen you are with the right person, or people, Luna⊠there are no sparks. Sparks are meant to be exciting but eventually, they die out. Itâs what is left after the initial sparks that makes all the difference. For me, personally⊠it feels like Iâm floating freely among the clouds when Iâm with them. Untrapped and unbound. That is what love feels like for me.â
His answer made perfect sense. Sparks were only an indicator of a beginning of somethingâ what really mattered was what was left after the smoke cleared.Â
You scooted closer and rested your head on his arm while he shut his eyes to rest them.Â
Unguarded, vulnerable and exposed, yet⊠radiating with warmth and gentleness.
You truly were the luckiest if the mafia underboss let you see these sides of him.

There were times when you wondered if you should have never come back to Eden.
After all, would it have been so bad if you forgot about your past, your family and moved on? Was Wonderland not good to you?
Living in the mansion at the outskirts of the Capital, surrounded by expanses of lavender fields, learning about world history, politics and business with Madame Cha, and occasionally practising self defense of shooting with one of her boysâ it wasnât a bad life at all. You were looked after. Madame Cha cared for you as if you were really her niece, and you cared for her as an aunt.
And her boysâ Jaebeom and his gangâ they would always bring something for you whenever they came around. A flower from the field, an odd scarf that stood out to them in the marketplace, a dagger (which would immediately be confiscated by the Madame) or a ruffle to the hair, a kiss to the top of the head. You were their little sister. Their friend.Â
So, would it have been selfish of you to want to continue living with Madame Cha? She sometimes joked about how she would like to pass her establishment to youâ she did not have any family of her own and she claimed that her blood relatives were all âvulturesâ. She pretty much ran her trade business with Jaebeom and often mentioned that if you agreed to cut ties with your father, she would take you in as her own. Of course, it took a while before she warmed up to you, and she was awfully suspicious of you when you first arrived.
So, after spending three years in Wonderland when you decided to go back to Eden for good, she wasnât surprised. She said that she always found you staring at the horizon with a wistful look on your face, looking as if you were wondering what could have been and what could be. She asked you something that would stay with you like a weight on your shoulderâ
If you had really cut ties with your father, what was really calling you back to Eden?
At that time, you had no answer to that. When Jinyoung, the second-in-charge of the gang heard, he wondered if you were finally going to look for your birth mother. You told him that according to your father, she was dead and no good would come out of learning about her, but Jinyoung said that if she really was dead, your father should have no reason to hide her identity from you.
And that got you wondering if it really was true. Upon arriving back to Eden, you tried snooping around to find something, anything, but it was always a dead end. Even your half-brother Sunghoon did not know your motherâs identity. So that left your fatherâ
And your father announced himself as your enemy as soon as you joined Kihyunâs company, a partner to the Crescent Company.
You initially speculated that it was Kihyun your father had a problem with. After all, he protected you far too many times from your father. But when you learned that your father still often met up with Kihyun regarding pharmaceutical-related dealings and that the MX Pharmaceuticals also distributed Park Pharmaâs products, you started to wonder if your father simply hated you.Â
And it was perhaps true, but there was also another answerâ your father had a problem with the Crescent Company, and it wouldnât have been obvious if you had no knowledge about silver light, because it changed a lot of things.
The Crescents would be rivals of not only the pharmaceutical businesses but basically every high-profile man who consumed silver light as a drug, or every person of power to whom the drug was merely a currency to exploit this worldâs resources. You could not even fathom out just how extensive their network was. Could an organisation like Ateez really expose their propaganda and stop the exploitation of silver light as a pleasure drug or currency?
If that network had lasted so long without the name of silver light coming out of the mouth of a common man, you were pretty sure that it would be extremely challenging, even with Madame Tiffanyâs partnershipâ and you couldnât shake off the feeling that Madame Tiffany was going to be the source of the Crescentsâ demise rather than salvationâŠ
âI go to make tea for you and you look like youâre drafting a plan to take over the world,â Wooyoung scoffed, having proven himself true when he said that you were distracted the whole evening.
âYeah, Iâm pretty sure I saw you staring at the tea leaves for a solid two minutes before you moved,â you countered and he smiled guiltily, settling down next to you and bringing you in for a kiss to your temple before he handed you the cup.
âNow, whatâs got my girl all bothered?â
Your response stopped midway when you heard the jingle of the keys and in came Hongjoong and Jongho, discussing something in a low voice and taking off their shoes in the foyer. Their eyes lit up at the sight of youâ
But you were busy shaking off your initial surprise. Of course they could come here. This was their house.Â
You just didnât expect them to come back so early, and it seemed like Wooyoung didnât as well because he let out a frustrated âyouâre interrupting my date!â, which led to Hongjoong rolling his eyes and Jongho threatening to throw him out, the air filling with friendly squabble as they all settled down in the living room.
The date had truly not been without distractions and interruptions, but considering the circumstances, you would say that it went pretty well. You took the evening off and went to your apartment to get ready, borrowing a cap-sleeved black dress from Wendy who was simply pleased that you were going out with someone, no matter who it was. You promised to tell her who it was some other time but she was pretty sure it was one of the Crescents from the office. You let her believe that and she styled your hair with a jade pin, adding a deep brown fur coat on you as a finishing touch.
Wooyoung came to pick you up, an absolute gentleman to the bone who kissed your knuckles in greeting and opened the door of his car for you. You had dinner at one of the fancy restaurants in the food street of Sector 1â a lavish dinner that reminded you of what you used to eat back home in Edenary.Â
Wooyoung was talkative and kept you engaged in conversation, but the two of you were consciously trying to avoid discussing work. You talked about your likes and dislikes, about your past and your relationships, and unsurprisingly, you found a lot in common with him. You both were the type to speak your mind about things so the conversation flowed naturally, drifting from preferences to some stories of your pasts.
But you could tell that the recent happenings were weighing Wooyoung down, even though he did his best to make sure that you were comfortable and having a good time. With a gentle squeeze to his hand as you took a walk in his area, you told him that if he would like, he could talk to you about anything that weighed on his mind. He invited you for tea and here you were, joined by his housemates.
âHow was your first date?â Jongho asked, wiggling his brows teasingly and your eyes darted over to Hongjoong who was sitting comfortably on the sofa in front of you, an eyebrow slightly raised indicating his anticipation to hear your answer.
âWell,â you glanced at Wooyoung who was eagerly awaiting your answer. âLetâs just say you all have some competition now. The bar has been set.â
Wooyoung clapped loudly while Hongjoong snickered under his breath, clearly amused. âSee? I told you I would set her standards high. Good luck crossing the bar, folks.â
âIâm happy to hear you had a good time,â Hongjoong looked at you earnestly and watched your smile drop. He shook his head and added, âYou needed that. Itâs not good to be so stressed all the time, and I heard that our little secretary has been zoning out at work a lot.â
Your lips formed into a pout as you folded your arms. âI canât help it. We tried hard not to get distracted by the work stress during our dinner too, but⊠decided to give in and just talk at home, with some tea.â
âYou guys want some?â Wooyoung asked and when the two nodded, he muttered something about how he brewed extra just in case and in no time, you were all in a deep discussion of the recent updates.
The situation was nowhere near dying down hence the pressure looming over everyoneâs head. With the illegal trades put on hold entirely while the Edenary Station investigated the case in collaboration with the prosecution, Hongjoong was worried if Madame Tiffany was going to retract from their recent deal and if rumours about the Crescentsâ possession of silver light were going to get rampant.
âThey could easily charge us on the basis of illegal drug trade and confiscate all our possession of silver light if it comes to that,â Hongjoong explained. âThatâs the worst case scenario but Iâm preparing to make it look like our hands are clean. They can charge us but they will never find the evidence that we possess the drug.â
âWeâre going to have to contact some underworld dealers in that case,â Jongho clarified. âFor now, weâre just hoping we can get away with a heavy fine and they do not dig further.â
You nodded along. âNo idea about the source of the tip?â
Hongjoong shook his head grimly. His knuckles almost whitened as he clenched his fists, clearly agitated. You looked towards Wooyoung who was already staring at the bossâs hands, no stranger to his mannerism.
âWeâll get to that,â he assured with a smile in an attempt to lighten the mood again. âIâm getting my boys to sniff around. Theyâre like hounds so weâll know in no time.â
âI donât think it is that simple this time,â Hongjoong admitted, making both Jongho and Wooyoung shift uncomfortably in their seats. Perhaps, this was the first time their leader expressed his opinion about the matter.Â
Hongjoong glanced over at his capos and then at you. âSomething tells me that this is the beginning of the end.â
You frowned. âThe end of what?â
âThe end of our attempt to present ourselves as something we are notâ a legal, respectable business organisation,â Hongjoong said, straightening his shirt and leaning forward, meeting eyes with the youngests. âIâm coming back from hearing whispers in the windâ someone is trying their damned best to bring Ateez out of the shadows.â
âIf they want us back that bad, they can have us,â Wooyoung started. âWe can call ourselves the Crescents as much as we want, but we will always be Ateez. A gang.â
âI hope they are just whispers,â you said, your own voice sounding unconvincing and Hongjoong caught that.Â
âI hope so too,â he said earnestly, and something told you that he knew about how you would be getting a confirmation soon. You gulped uneasily, checking your wrist for the time.
âDonât let that keep you up at night, Captain,â Jongho said, getting up and clapping, breaking the tension in the room. âEveryone knows who we are, and this isnât the first time someone has attempted to trigger us. Once we find the source, everything will fall into place. Business will get running.â
âHeâs right,â Wooyoung nodded. âIf they want us back so badly, Iâm happy to go back to my old ways. It gets tiring to act like a refined gentleman when Iâm anything but.â
Jongho laughed mockingly and you frowned at him. What he said next had you covering your mouth.
âYouâve never been a refined gentleman.â
Wooyoung put his hands over his hips, challenging Jongho while Hongjoong got up, sliding between them and joining you in a corner before they started squaring up, finding you thoroughly amused by the scene in front of you.
âI donât know what I expected when I joined the inner circle, but thisâŠâ you watched Wooyoung patting Jonghoâs arm aggressively, pleading for him to stop between laughs while the younger had him in a chokehold. âThis was certainly not it.â
âTheyâre still young boys at heart,â Hongjoong smiled rather proudly. âI wish I can protect their spirits forever.â
You glanced over at Hongjoong, curiosity piqued.Â
âAnd what about you?â
Hongjoongâs lips curled in a surprised smile but the only response he gave was a subtle nodâ perhaps, a gesture of gratitude that you thought about him at this moment. He clapped loudly and immediately, the boys straightened.
âTake your date home, Wooyoung. You and I have places to go in the early morning.â
âYessir,â Wooyoung straightened his clothes and beckoned you to follow him outside and you exited the house, joking about what happened moments ago.
It was during the short car ride that Wooyoung took a deep breath and said, âThank you for today, Luna. I really needed a breather.â
âSo did I,â you smiled, playing with the straps of your purse. âIt was a wonderful first date, Wooyoung.â
Wooyoung grinned. âHad to do our new member some justice. The hyungs keep you holed up in their office, thoughâŠâ He stole a glance, shaking his head in amusement. âIâm sure you like that too.â
âHey,â you smacked his arm, no longer shy. âI spent almost two years at the bar too.â
âBut Yeosang did not really realise how much he liked you until you left the bar,â Wooyoung shared. âI knew he liked you, though. I told him that he should make a move, but he was wary of you. Makes sense now.â
âWary of me?âÂ
âImagine if he started dating you and found out who you are much later. Iâm not sure he would have liked thatâ he doesn't like secrets,â Wooyoung said, stopping the car when he reached your street.
âNoted,â you shrugged. âIâm not sure I would have accepted at that time either. I had secrets to protect, after all.â
âAnd are there more secrets youâre keeping, Luna?âÂ
Wooyoungâs eyes always seemed sharp, however, there was a certain glint to them as he asked that question, almost of a protective nature. If it would have been anyone else, you might have been a bit offended, but since this was Wooyoung, a fierce protector of his group, you did not mind the apprehension in his eyes one bit.
So you slid your hand over his and squeezed it in assurance. âNothing of importance. Iâm a pretty open book now. Especially with Seonghwa and Yunhoâ I donât know how they do it, but I find myself speaking my mind and baring my soul when Iâm with them.â
The corner of Wooyoungâs lips tugged in a small smile. âIâm glad to hear that.â
You smiled back and he kissed the back of your hand, the tension breaking as you both broke into laughter. He got out of the car first and opened the door for you, spreading his arms and bringing you in for a nice, warm hug.Â
âDonât stress too much about whatâs happened, sweetheart,â he said as he swayed you back and forth in the hug. You squeezed the material of his coat in response. âThings like these happen all the time. Itâs just that people forget that we made our way up all the way from rock bottom.â
âAnd rock bottom never scared you,â you finished and he pulled away with a proud smile.Â
âThatâs right,â he cupped your face. âI sure hope things get better, but if they donât, weâll be okay.â
âI have faith in that,â you said and he kissed the top of your head in farewell.
However⊠faith can only get you so far, for things get worse before they get better. Just like the cold winds in Sector 1 shifting to an icy breeze with the telltale signs that it had snowed in the mountains, the Crescentsâ fate took a darker turn when Jaebeom arrived at the Crescent Office bearing news of confirmation.Â
You welcomed Jaebeom into Yunhoâs office with a heavy heart, and it did not help that he was struggling to smile. Your stomach twisted in knots, hand almost shaking as you poured fresh tea for the man.
As Jaebeom spoke, the walls of Yunhoâs office room felt like they were closing in on you, suffocating you as if you were trapped in a small space. You listened to his every word carefully, nodding along and when he apologised for not bringing good news, you told him that it was something you already expectedâ it was as if deep down, you knew that a storm was coming.
Only you didnât realise the storm would be in the form of a typhoon, threatening to shake the ground from underneath your feet. Jaebeom got up to leave and patted your head, sharing your sentiments and telling you that he would be in contact for further updates, and that if the Crescents ever needed a helping hand, Jaebeomâs gang along with Madame Cha were at their service.Â
That did nothing to quell the unease in your heart. After being left alone, you slumped down on the couch and stared up at the ceiling, wishing the sky would burst open and take you away from this dark, wretched world. There were no tears left to cryâ with each passing second, you mustered up the little fragments of strength that threatened to leave your body. With each passing minute, you straightened up as you let the information and its implications sink in.
And with each passing hour, you waited. Waited for the underboss to arrive so that you could deliver the news to him.Â
Strangely, it made you recall that night when you risked everything to obey Yeosangâs orders and get the contents of his locker safely out of the Crescent Bar, when you were under attack. ExceptâŠÂ
There was nowhere to escape now. No gambles to make, no tables to turn.

It must have been around midnight when the boss and his underboss arrived at the Crescent Office to store some documents and get some ledgers before moving to their house to get some rest. Upon finding the light of Yunhoâs office on, they wondered if Yunho had already arrived back from Sector 8â the consigliere had been out all day tracing the source of the tip with Kihyunâs men and had ringed the office to let them know that he might not be back tonight.
But when Seonghwa found you curled up on the couch with your head resting against your knees, he immediately knew something was wrong. Seonghwa glanced at Hongjoong to confirm if he was the only one who got that feeling and when he found the bossâ brows scrunched with worry, he gently approached you.
You straightened at the sight of Seonghwa, sighing in relief but your heart quickly twisted with anxiety at the sight of the Captain. How were you to tell him that you both had doomed the Crescents, perhaps, with no return?
âDid something happen?â Seonghwa held you by your shoulders and scanned your figure. You pursed your lips and took a few deep breaths, motioning at Hongjoong to take a seat.Â
âI finally heard back from Madame Cha,â you looked at the Captain and he raised a brow, leaning forward, eager to hear more. You wondered if you were the only one feeling bile rise up your throat.
Surely, Hongjoong had no idea who Madame Tiffany was, right?
About a minute of silence passed with the men exchanging glances between each other. Hongjoong exhaled, slumping back in resignation.
âJust tell us how fucked we are, Luna. Iâm ready to hear it.â
A short laugh escaped your mouth and Hongjoong resisted the urge to comment on the sarcastic tone of it. âFucked would be an understatement, Hongjoong. Tiffany is involved with the elites who are pushing for Strictlandâs nuclear operation to become successful.â
âStrictlandâs nuclear operation,â Hongjoong repeated, his gaze sticking on the teacup you had been drinking from.Â
âTheir end goal is triggering a regional war so Eden and Halaland get distracted. Strictland can test their nuclear weapons around that time, but there are rumours that as soon as Strictland makes that move, Eden or someone else from this continent might attempt its annexation,â you added and Seonghwa cursed under his breath.
âTriggering a regional warâ they could achieve that through a lot of ways,â Seonghwa deliberated. âEither blow Strictlandâs cover and make it known that the nuclear base has been active, or find another reason important enough that turns Eden and Halaland against each other. Either way, the Treaty of the Eight Hills gets violated.â
âIf they need to test their nuclear weapons, a war could be a good time to do that,â Hongjoong shook his head in disappointment, head hanging low in defeat. âI canât believe weâre close to seeing another war in our lifetime.â
Silence filled a room at his statement before Hongjoong spoke again. âMadame Tiffany signed on the silver light deal with us while knowing exactly who we are. The question remainsâ did she agree on silver lightâs medical distribution to have the upper hand as she controls the world of the elites, or does she intend to end usâ our company?â
âIf she was the one who tipped the navy about the shipment to Mist IslandâŠâ Seonghwa said what you both were thinking out loud. âIt would be the very first step to trigger our doom. She must be working with an insider to know exactly how much damage this would doââ
âWe donât know that yet,â Hongjoong looked at the underboss and your eyes twitched at his statement. âIt could be anyoneââ
âIt can not be anyone, and you know that, Captain,â you declared and Hongjoong cocked his head at the stiffness of your tone. âThink about the timing of this all. Tipping the navy right when weâre about to launch the silver light drug? Too big of a coincidence.â
âIâm trying to give her the benefit of doubt and see if we have another enemyâ someone who might be far worse than Tiffany,â Hongjoong counter with narrowed eyes. âTiffany might be a bait even in their game if she really signed the deal of silver light for another, much sinister purpose.â
âDonât be fooled, Hongjoong,â you told him. âThe elitesâ they all work together, not against each other. If Tiffany is part of the elites who intend to make sure that silver light never sees the light of the day as a medicinal drug, then you donât have just one enemy but an entire group of people with power, from all over the continentââ
âYou think I did not consider that when I shook hands with that woman?âÂ
Hongjoongâs tone was so cold and sharp that it made you hold your breath.Â
âI needed someone with power to be our partner on this. Someone with a status that could match that of the elites. So what if they are a member of the elites themselves? If that means that they protect us when we launch this drug into the market, it doesnât matter who they are.â
âYou know how limited our options were, Luna,â Seonghwa said in a soft tone, sliding his hand over your clenched fist and rubbing it assuringly. âSure, signing with Tiffany could be a big mistake, but we donât know that yet, and we cannot take the next step until we confirm that Tiffany intends to destroy our company. You know how important this deal is to us. You understand, right?â
âI do,â you took a deep breath, trying to swallow the lump stuck in your throat. âI just⊠I keep seeing my fatherâs cocky smile when he learned that weâre aiming to partner with Tiffany. Itâs as if he knew.â
âWeâll start looking into it properly now that we have a potential lead,â Hongjoong said, this time much gently. âWe will also make preparations for what could be another attack on the Crescent Company.â
You nodded in gratitude and Hongjoong held your gazeâ if this was just another day, he would have reprimanded you for talking to him like that, but he understood how anxious this made you considering you already had an inkling of what the elites had been planning all this time.Â
âCan your sourceâŠâ
âLim Jaebeom,â you told Hongjoong and he nodded, memorising the name.Â
âCan Jaebeom name all parties involved in this scheme if possible?â
âIâll send him a message and arrange a meeting,â you said. âHe shifted his focus on Madame Tiffany now but heâs been looking into this for a while so his information can be trusted.â
âGood. I trust you, Luna,â Hongjoong said, getting up. âLetâs go home and get some rest. Weâll start planning in the morning, okay?â
You nodded weakly and Hongjoong gazed softly at you, drawing closer and resting his hand on your cheek.Â
âLook at me, sweetheart,â he almost whispered and you mustered up the remnants of your diminishing strength to meet his eyes. âWe are warriors, all of us. Not just the nine of us, but the rest of the employees of the Crescent Company. All of us share the same goalâ to protect this homeland and to provide the next generations with some sense of security. If that means that we have to fight the very people who wish for the demise of the entire continent⊠so be it. They may be the leaders of this society, but weâŠâ
âWe are the leaders of the underworld,â you quoted him and watched his lips curl in a satisfied smirk. âThe underworld that no one escapes from.â
âThatâs right,â Hongjoong said, planting a chaste kiss on your temple. âStraighten your shoulders and never look back, you hear me?â
You looked in Seonghwaâs direction, finding him smiling almost proudly. He passed a subtle nod and you finally managed a smile on your own.
These men would remind you time and time again that no matter how dark it gets, you rule the darkness. You had no reason to be afraid.
That did not help the stress too much though, and naturally, you found yourself standing outside the back exit of the Crescent Bar yet again, staring at the dim lights that peeked from the frosted windows. You debated going home instead but your heart knew what it wanted so you discreetly made your way to Yeosangâs office, not bothering to knock but slightly opening the door to check who was inside.
San spotted you, seated on the chair in front of Yeosang and he smiled at the sight of you, urging you to come inside. Yeosangâs eyes lit up as soon as you entered but when he found your shoulders sunken and form weary, he immediately knew something was wrong.
âAre you okay?â Yeosang asked, hesitantly getting up as if unsure what to do.
âNot really,â you let out a short laugh, looking up at the ceiling and willing yourself not to break down. Now was not the time.Â
San and Yeosang moved in synchronisation as if they had done this several times already. San took your bag from you and placed it on the table, taking off your coat next and going to hang it on the stand. Yeosang gently brought you in a hug, caressing your head silently.Â
You took a deep breathâ the warmth of his hug was definitely helping with the ease of your mind. You felt Sanâs hands on your shoulders, gently massaging the tension out of your body while you stood still. The two of them waited until you broke apart, feeling a bit refreshed.Â
âYou wanna talk about it?â San asked, hands still on your shoulders and a light kiss planted on your cheek.
âI already did, with Seonghwa and Hongjoong. Things will be okay, they assured me. Iâm justâŠâ you sighed, meeting eyes with the both of them.
âTired?â Yeosang suggested and you laughed in admission. âSick of it?â
âYou can curse at them if you want to,â San squared up, making you laugh harder. âWeâll join. Hongjoong can be an ass, right?â
âStubborn assââ
âAn extremely stubborn ass,â you interjected Yeosang and they smirked in victory. âWhat makes it more frustrating is that heâs always right.â
âThis!â San clapped in agreement. âIf he rubbed this in our face, that would perhaps be better than the silent victory judgmental glare thing that he does.â
You chuckled under your breathâ so it wasnât just you. âYeah, youâre right. Itâs easier to deal with someone pompous than to deal with someone who doesnât realise their own power.â
âYouâll get used to it,â Yeosang assured, but then glanced at San. âOr not.â
âYou donât get used to it,â San corrected. âYou just learn to live with it and deal with it.â
âSounds tiring,â you sank down on your chair and Yeosang poured you a drink, the duo snickering at something. âWhatâs so funny?â
âNothing,â San smiled. âItâs just nice to know that you found your way here.â
âYeah, itâs on my way home. Donât make too much of it,â you teased and San poked your shoulder before settling down on the chair next to you on your left, clasping his hand around yours.Â
You made small talk, getting some recent updates on how the bar was functioning (without you, you made a point to highlight). The conversation shifted to your recent date with Wooyoung and how he could not stop boasting about being the first and only gentleman in the group.
âItâs funnier this time because usually, heâs an absolute goner who canât keep his hands off a new partner,â San revealed and that piqued your curiosity. âHeâs taking his time with you. He must really like you.â
âHeâs always liked me, donât be mistaken,â you told him and the duo agreedâ Wooyoung was perhaps the only one of the Crescents who was friendly with you before you became a bookkeeper. âI thought heâs a bit sceptical of me, but maybe thatâs just me?â
âHow so?â Yeosang asked.
âHe asked if I have any secrets that Iâm keeping from you guys. He seems very protective of you all.â
âThatâs just how he is,â San chuckled. âItâs not scepticism, not really. Just his protective nature.â
âHe probably wanted to see how you would respond,â Yeosang snickered in amusement. âHe knows right away if someone lies.â
âI⊠will keep that in mind for the future,â you said and San narrowed his eyes.
âWho do you plan to lie to?â
âNot him,â you said and the boys laughed. âYou seem gullible. Youâd be my target, San.â
âNot fair!â He tried snatching his hand away but you kept your grip tight around his hand.Â
The sound of your laughter filled the room. Outside, a woman with silver hair hiding the little of her face that was visible from her cloak stood near the door with her own drink in her hand, her lips threatening to curl into a smile. As soon as the door of the office opened, she shifted her body towards the shadow in an attempt to appear inconspicuous.
As you said your goodbyes to the men, San escorting you to the exit, you thought you heard Yeosangâs voiceâ âwinterâ, he said. You turned to look but there was no one in the shadows anymore.
However, the next day as you switched your belongings from one bag to another, you found a crumpled piece of paper. Being the kind of person who usually folded paper instead of crumpling it, you flattened the paper and found a message written on it.
You read it, once, twice. And then you tossed it in the fireplace.

âWhat do you mean it was Secretary Oh Jungse?â
Hongjoongâs voice practically boomed in the room as he spoke into the receiver, making you and Seonghwa pause in the middle of arranging the documents. Seonghwa looked at you but you shrugged, not recognising the name.
âAnd youâre positive about the source?â
For a moment, you straightened, heart beating with anticipation. Did you finally have the source of the tip? Had it finally worked out?Â
But Hongjoongâs tight grip on the receiver revealed that it was perhaps something else, probably of a more alarming nature. As if to confirm, Hongjoong slammed the receiver down to end the call and you shivered, the temperature in the room noticeably dropping.
It was another gloomy morning in the Crescent Office with you and Seonghwa compiling some reports to present to the Edenary Office to help with the illegal shipment case. The ringing of the telephone had started to sound ominous for a few days now. You had stopped expecting to hear any good news, and watching Hongjoong clench and unclench both his fists and his jaw while his gaze fixed at the revolver lying on the table had you squirming in your seat.
âWhat is it?â Seonghwa asked, but Hongjoong shook his head, still processing the information.
Seonghwa got up and moved towards the main desk where Hongjoong sat. He gently approached him with an assuring squeeze to his shoulder, rubbing it to provide some comfort. You watched as the tension in the bossâ body started to dissipate with each gentle rub, and you could see that Seonghwa was muttering assurances, fixing his hair and caressing his face every once in a while.
Hongjoong took a deep breath and looked towards you, motioning you to come closer. You dropped the files on the table and took the seat in front of him, waiting for him to catch his breath.
âIt was Yunhoâ someone is deliberately targeting our business. Remember the anonymous funder for our weapons project? The one whose identity we could not find out?â
âThatâs Secretary Oh?â Seonghwa frowned. âIsnât heâŠâ
âPresident Hanâs secretary,â Hongjoong confirmed and your jaw went slack after hearing the connection. âThe man who supposedly went into hiding when President Han was assassinated. He was supposed to deliver the funds to us but got arrested on suspicions of treason. Heâs under interrogation right now.â
âI remember hearing things about that man,â you leaned forward. âThings like how he might have been involved in the assassination itself, or how he was targeted after the assassination as well.â
âI donât think he was involved in the killing of the president, but you can never be too sure,â Hongjoong pursed his lips in thought, holding Seonghwaâs hand and squeezing it to let him know that he was okay now. âThe Edenary Station is now aware of our weapons project and is going to proceed with investigation, but⊠Iâm not sure if they learned that from Secretary Oh or if this was pre-planned.â
âThey must have tortured him quite a bit for him to confess,â Seonghwa winced at the thought. âSecretary Oh has done a lot to hide his identity. To be caught now of all the timesâŠâ
âOr someone found out about Secretary Oh and decided to use that to expose our weapons dealings,â you countered and Hongjoong agreed. âIâm going to ring the Edenary Office and get Jaehyun on the move. I know how the Edenary Station will proceed with this case.â
âYou do that,â Hongjoong passed you the receiver and you called Jaehyun, requesting him to keep watch over Secretary Oh and see who visits the man or if anyone bails him. Jaehyun assured that he would keep an eye and check the public sentiment while he was at it.
âSo nowâŠâ you said when you ended the call. âAll of Eden will know that the Crescents have been smuggling weapons.â
âNot so quickly, no,â Hongjoong shook his head. âEdenary Station will make sure the public does not learn about this. The public will be with us on this because the majority of the war veterans believe that our current office isnât doing a good job with the nationâs security. And President Leeâs position will not look good if the public learns that a âgangâ is doing more for national security than the office.â
âPlus with Major Sungâs recent visit, people are already condemning the president,â Seonghwa added. âThey wish to learn what they talked about, but President Lee is keeping mum.â
âAs he should be,â Hongjoong stretched his neck, producing cracks. âThe boys are on their way here, all of them. Itâs time we get things straight and retaliate against whoever is targeting us.â
You finished compiling the report with Seonghwa while you waited for the rest of the Crescents to arrive. Yunho, San and Yeosang were the first ones, having been out making sure that the silver light batches were safely moved to a different location in case the recent happenings were a scheme to stop the Crescents from trying to manufacture the drug into the market. The warehouse boys arrived next after making sure to get rid of any tails that would lead the Edenary Station to find their base for weapons dealings.Â
You were all chatting among yourselves, catching up and exchanging updates when Hongjoong clapped to get everyoneâs attention. The boys started to settle down, but you pursed your lips in amusement when you saw Yunho, who was standing next to Hongjoong, shoot subtle glares at anyone who had not shut up yet. He caught you stifling a smile and you watched his eyes twinkle with a hint of mischief.
âHowâs it looking at the warehouse?â Hongjoong asked Mingi.
âPledis has agreed to pause all weapons-related manufacturing until things settle down. They wonât back out. We spread the word in the underground network and all weapons dealings and exchange will be put to a halt until further notice.â
âI met up with Changbin,â Wooyoung said and you asked Jongho, who was sitting next to you, about who Changbin was. You learned that he was a member of Chanâs gangâ Wolfgang. âTheyâre also going to pause all dealings because they fear that they might get exposed, and they are open for a chat in case we want to team up and find whoever is behind this.â
You were surprised to hear that. You had kept the little chat with Chan back at Edenary from the boys since they were rivals, but hearing that they were open to being allies for once had you intrigued.Â
âTeam up?â San scoffed. âThatâs new.â
âThey wouldnât want to get involved with the police either,â Jongho mused. âThey may be our rivals but we share the same goal.â
Hongjoong nodded, revealing the contents of his phone call with Yunho and a string of gasps and curses sounded across the room. âNow⊠what do we make of this?â
âIt canât be denied that we are being deliberately targeted,â Wooyoung started. âI would like us to focus on why Secretary Oh, of all the anonymous funders, was the one chosen to be exposed like thisâ he was attacked, you say, and arrested? His life could be in danger.â
âSounds like a good place to start,â San agreed. âIt canât be a big coincidenceâ not anymore. Someone is trying to attack the very foundation of the Crescents. Of Ateez.â
âI feel like weâre missing a big link among all the things that have happened recently,â Yeosang spoke with a sense of sobriety and you looked at him, grateful that he felt the same. âWith Tiffanyâs possible connection to the Strictland programme and our deal with silver light which, by the way, sheâs awfully quiet about⊠Iâd like to have some eyes on her too.â
âI agree,â Seonghwa began. âEither she does not fear a tarnished reputation, or⊠sheâs involved somehow. I still donât get why she would opt for this routeâ tipping the navy and then exposing an anonymous funder. If she wants silver light all to herself, she could have gone for a less messier option.â
âI doubt that,â you commented, making everyone look at you. âThese elites⊠they have a way of operating, especially when they aim to create some significant damage. The quicker, less messier options do not sound appealing to them.â
Hongjoong nodded in consideration. âEither way, we have to take a step back and secure our footing. Yunho, if you will?â
Yunho nodded, getting up and looking around the room in thought. âI think first and foremost, we need to make sure that the weapons channel remains safe and unexposed to any outsiders. That means that we must form partnerships with other gangs and we should start contacting the funders to let them know about the situationâ anonymous ones too.â
âSounds like a plan,â Hongjoong exhaled. âMingi, Wooyoung, and Lunaâ you can work on this since the three of you have the most connections. If you need some help, Yunho or Seonghwa can join.â
You agreed, meeting eyes with your new partners who passed you a nod and a cheeky smile.Â
âNext, San and Yeosang should continue to make sure the silver light medicinal production begins at one of the MX Pharmaceuticalsâ factories. It doesnât matter if someone is targeting us to stop the launch of this medicine because the only people who might be behind this must want to keep the current status of silver light intactâ a pleasure drug.â
âThe elites,â you sighed and Yunho nodded. âDo you reckon that these are the same people who are working for the Strictland programme?â
âThatâs what me and Jongho will start looking into,â Yunho said. âWeâll get General Wi and other Edenary figures to start sniffing around too and see where it takes us. We might need you to join us in that case, Luna.â
âHappy to help,â you assured.
âHongjoong,â Yunho looked at the Captain. âI think you are due a meeting with President Son. If thereâs one person who might know where Secretary Ohâs loyalty stands, itâs him. And make sure we know what Madame Tiffanyâs stance on this is.â
âFine, Iâll contact them,â Hongjoong groaned. âCanât say President Son will be pleased to hear that we want to meet him.â
âI donât think heâll be that mad to see you,â Wooyoung chuckled as the Captainâs pout deepened. âYouâre just a tiny bit intimidated by him, admit it.â
âYes, so what if I am?â Hongjoong pulled out his pipe to everyoneâs amusement, Seonghwa automatically retrieving a lighter from his pocket and helping Hongjoong. âIt would be unwise not to be intimidated by the person who ran this country for the majority of our lives.â
âWell then,â Yunho clapped in conclusion. âI think weâre all sorted now. Captain?â
Hongjoong took a deep smoke, meeting eyes with all of you before he started. âI think it is about time we stopped acting like the Crescents and started acting like Ateez. Do you get what I mean?â
Silence filled the room and you watched how each one of them shifted in their seats at Hongjoongâs proposition. Hongjoong leaned forward, taking another smoke and clearing his throat.Â
âSome fucker out there has forgotten that we rose from nothing, and we are not afraid of the darkness, yeah?â Hongjoongâs voice had significantly deepened and you were surprised at the change in his demeanour. âGet your weapons out. Show them what we are made of. We will not allow our establishment to fall, you hear me?â
There was another moment of silence and Seonghwa took the lead then, straightening his coat.Â
âWe will probably get attacked more oftenâ our bases and offices might get compromised, so letâs be careful and on guard, okay? We have to stay one step ahead now, so everyone⊠get to business.â
âAnd itâs probably not one person,â Hongjoong completed his train of thought, saying out loud what everyone suspected. âI really donât think itâs just a single entity anymore. Weâve got a mole, thatâs for sure. Find them immediately and report to me, and make sure our people are protected before you step out in the field, got it?â
A chorus of âyes bossâ and âyes captain!â echoed in the room, the men immediately starting on breaking and dividing tasks while you went to take the now empty chair beside the Captain who offered you his pipe jokingly. He was surprised when you accepted.
Hongjoong watched you blow the smoke, the noise in the room almost fading momentarily and he shook his head lightly. You asked him for a favour and he raised a brow in question. You explained that it was something that weighed over your mind and you always wanted to do, and he agreed.Â

After the meeting, you finished your tasks for the night and informed Eunha and Jihoon about the shift in your duties. They took over your work, assuring you that they got it covered and prayed for youâ anything to end this mess, they said. If your presence at the warehouse would speed things up, they would gladly let you go.Â
After sending Hongjoong and Seonghwa home for the night, Yunho joined you in the office, watching you fret over the unfinished work. He assured you that it was okay, but you werenât having any of it. When he shut the folders to your protests, your pout deepened and you folded your arms.
âDo you want to come over at my place?â
âAt your place?â You narrowed your eyes and he laughed discreetly. âWhat are you planning?â
âRamen and cuddles, if you will?â
You pretended to think for a moment but agreed. How could you resist the offerâ
âAnd some kisses if we can squeeze that in too.â
Right.Â
âSo youâre just lovesick, huh? None of the boys giving you attention lately?â You teased, getting up and gathering your things.Â
âOh, Wooyoung almost killed me with affection earlier,â Yunho recalled with a laugh and you scoffed. That sounded like Wooyoung, alright. âI just miss you. Is that so bad?â
âI miss you too,â you said, linking your arms, too tired to continue teasing him. The two of you started downstairs. âWe havenât had one stress-free moment ever since you decided to give me some space, Mr. Jeong.â
âThatâs when you were still pretending to make up your mind about us,â he said, opening the door of his car for you and you gasped scandalously. Yunho got in himself, looking at you before starting the engine. âHope nothing holds you back tonight.â
With a wink, he started to drive, stifling a grin when you smacked his shoulder and folded your arms. You tugged your coat closer, still feeling the cold from when you stepped outside the office and you looked outside of the window, finding not a single star in the sky.
âLooks like itâs going to rain soon.â
âOr snow,â Yunho whistled. âWould love to see some snow soon.â
You looked over at him. âSeems like someone has some fond memories of the snow.â
He smiled and nodded in answer, the rest of the short trip passing by with talks about your weather preferences when you reached a small house in the same neighbourhood where Sanâs house was.Â
âI heard that you came up with the housing arrangement very randomly,â you said as you got out of the car and Yunho chuckled at the memory. âDo you like how it turned out?â
âIt never mattered who we got paired with,â he admitted, unlocking the door for you and turning on the lights. You took off your shoes, greeted with a surprisingly homey vibe with warm-toned interior and furniture. âWe only really come here to rest. Plus, we crash at each otherâs house too often anyway.â
You nodded, taking off your coat and hanging it on the stand before following Yunho to the kitchen. While it almost looked unused, there were still signs that someone was taking care of the house. You stood near the counter and watched Yunho quickly make work of the few ingredients that he found, tossing the ramen in the pot. You offered help but he insisted that he was fine so you decided to set the table.
âIs Yeosang not home?â You asked and he shook his head.
âHeâs probably with Mingi tonightâ I saw the two of them leaving together earlier.â
âDo they still have some work, orâŠâÂ
Yunho glanced at you. âTheyâre probably going to blow off some steam before they start working tomorrow.â
âAh, rightâ oh,â you subconsciously put your hand over your mouth when you realised what Yunho had implied and he laughed loudly.Â
âIs it strange to hear things like that?âÂ
âNo, not really,â you confirmed. You had seen your fair share of open relationships in Edenaryâ and half of the time, you had been too young to fully understand what it meant. âItâs just that sometimes itâs hard to picture some of you together.â
âWell, youâll be quite surprised to learn how closely knit we are,â Yunho finished cooking and brought the pot to the table, the two of you settling down with a few cans of beer. âTook us a few years to get here, Iâll say, but it has never been better.â
You nodded, asking if he could tell you moreâ as much as he was comfortable with, and he was pleased to find you eager to learn more about them since you were a part of them now too. You learned that Mingi and Yeosang were quite alike, often seeking solace in each otherâs company, even if it was just sitting together in silence.
âAnd how are you with everyone?â You asked, resting your face on your hands as you gazed at him with curiosity. Yunho found that adorable and his eyes curved as smiled at your question. âWhat sort of a relationship do you have with everyone?â
âHmm⊠letâs see,â Yunho pondered for a moment, drinking a few sips of his beer. âMingi and I have always been together so heâs someone Iâm always looking for in a room full of people, if you havenât noticed already.â
âYeah, you two absolutely love each other,â you agreed. âMoral loyalty and all that.â
Yunho grinned. âI think with Yeosang, itâs⊠more on the comfortable side. He takes care of me a lot, especially now that we live together. His presence⊠you know how comforting it is to sit in one room with him, right?â
You nodded. âI keep finding myself going back to the Crescent Bar and to his office when Iâm overwhelmed.â
Yunho smiled. âWith the younger ones, Iâm able to have fun and let go, be adventurous and wild. But with the hyungs, they just need someone to take care of them and Iâm happy to be that for them.â
âItâs surprising because they appear very calm and put-together, very refined,â you started, producing a snort out of Yunho. âBut theyâre just like the rest of you. Worse, if I have to say.â
âThatâs true,â Yunho laughed heartily. âThey are worse. The younger ones always take care of them, but donât you be mistaken, Luna. The hyungs can be quite⊠dominating when they want to be. Itâs almost scary.â
âDominating,â you repeated, drinking as you analysed the implications behind that word. âHow nice.â
âWhatâs going on in your head, sweetheart?â Yunho chuckled in a low tone.
âNothing,â you feigned innocence, finishing the last of your beer. âAbsolutely nothing.â
Yunho narrowed his eyes but you took a deep breath, looking around. âItâs just really nice to sit and talk. Havenât done that in a while, even with Wendy.â
âWeâve all been far too busy,â Yunho agreed, getting up and quickly cleaning up before taking your hands and making you get up, twirling you around once which made you laugh out loud rather uncharacteristically before he steered you to the living room.Â
âItâs always like this though,â Yunho continued as he settled you down on his lap and you wrapped your arms around his waist, resting your head on his shoulder. He took off your hair clip and began to smoothen your hair, running his fingers through the strands occasionally. âSomething is always happening. Not one peaceful moment ever since we started, but that became the norm for us. Thatâs why we always try to find some normalcy while we can.â
You let his words sink in, just like you let the warmth of his skin seep through his clothes and into yours, just like you let the sound of his breaths sync with yours. The contact of his fingertips on your scalp as he lightly massaged it made you close your eyes and snuggle closer until the tip of your nose met the crook of his neck.
âWell, this is nice,â you whispered, the feeling of being in his arms almost intoxicating. âItâs going to be a while before we get to be like this again, isnât that so?â
âI suppose so,â Yunho sighed. âYouâll be very busy with Wooyoung and Mingi, and Iâll be busy with Jongho hopping from one place to anotherââ
Yunho paused mid-sentence when he felt the soft skin of your lips press against his neck lightly and he shifted underneath you. âWe might still see each otherâ well, Iâll try to make time for you if you wantââ
He stopped talking yet again when you moved closer and craned your neck to kiss the curve of his jaw. Yunho held your hand and peered down at you, finding your eyes laden with something he had definitely not seen before.
âLove⊠what do you think you are doing?â
âSqueezing in some kisses?â You responded and Yunho shut his eyes as if in pain, shaking his head.Â
âIf you tease me like that, I don't think Iâll be able to hold back. I am very sensitive these days, Luna.â
âAnd where did you get the idea that I want you to hold back?â You pulled away to look him in the eyes. âI thought we both wanted each other.â
âOf course I want you,â Yunhoâs brows furrowed in concentration as he cupped your face. âBut⊠I want you to be comfortable first. I donât want you to feel like Iâm pressuring you or⊠I donât want you to think that Iâm demanding something from you. I would neverââ
âJeong Yunho,â you cupped his face, caressing the curve of his cheeks and swiping the dark tendrils of his hair away from his forehead. You locked eyes with him, finding hesitation if the slight shake of his voice wasnât already a sign. âI want thisâ I want you. Is that okay?â
âThatâs okay,â he nodded slowly, visibly gulping. âDo you know what you are getting into?â
âYes,â you nodded, unable to resist pecking his lips. You lingered at his bottom lip purposely. âDo I have to say it out loud?â
âAre you sure?â Yunho asked yet again, inching closer until the tips of your noses brushed.
âAbsolutely,â you whispered, âIâ I want you. I want you so bad that itâs killing meââ
Yunho did not need to hear another word. He let his hand crane your neck as his lips met yours in a kiss like none other, deep and demanding in every sense now that there were no boundaries. You sighed in relief, kissing him back and sucking at his lower lip, gladly opening your mouth for him when he swiped his tongue across your lips.
Yunho slid his tongue inside your mouth, switching between licks and kisses and you found yourself letting loose with every little groan that you earned, getting more comfortable with each kiss to your lips or on your face, your body moving in tandem with his hands that traced your curves. Before you knew it, you were straddling him, your skirt riding up and Yunhoâs hands found purchase on the bare skin of your thighs that your stockings didnât cover, causing you to break apart and look at each other in surprise.
âIs this okay?â Yunho asked, hands unmoving. âUse your words, love.â
âMore than okay,â you breathed, wrapping your arms around his neck and kissing him sweetly. âYou can touch me. However you want.â
Yunho nodded, joining your foreheads and matching the pacing of your breaths, his thumb starting to trace your bare skin. You shifted in his lap, feeling the telltale signs of a bulge and met his eyes, exchanging a kiss to assure him that you were okay before rolling your hips on his bulge, making him throw his head back and laugh in disbelief.
âYou like that?â You asked, making the same movement again and he looked at you challengingly, daring you to do that again.
That did nothing to stop you.
âYouâre playing a dangerous game, sweetheart.â
âWhatever,â you shut him up with another needy kiss and this time, Yunho let his hands roam over your upper body, both of you making quick work of unbuttoning each otherâs shirts. You made him take his white dress shirt off completely, running your hands against his toned muscles while he traced his fingers against the outline of your black bra, looking almost entranced, his chest rising up and down in deep breaths.
Before you could make a move, Yunho was bringing you closer, kissing you once before he let his lips trail along your jaw and down your neck, breathing in the scent of you. You squealed in surprise when he picked you up effortlessly as he muttered, âFuck this. Iâm taking this to bed.â
You wrapped your legs around him and between fits of laughter and some teasing jabs, he reached his room and gently laid you on his bed after taking off your shirt and throwing it to the side. While he stared at the sight of you in his bed, imprinting it in his mind, you took a quick look around.
âNice room,â you commented. It was quite simple with monochrome decorations.Â
âThatâs all you can think of right now?â Yunho pressed his hand in the middle of your chest, feeling your heartbeat and smirking in satisfaction.Â
He had his answer. He pulled you up and removed your bra in a matter of seconds, swallowing any other comment with a heated kiss and soon, you lost yourself in how his lips felt against your own. On how his lips felt as they left a searing trail down your neck, making your back arch when he started fondling your breasts and sucking on them, alternating between kisses and littering your skin with a reminder of what you were doing tonight.Â
You curled his hair between your fingers and when he paused near your belly, you pushed him downwardsâ a sign that it was okay. He looked at you for confirmation and when you nodded, he took off your skirt, leaving you in a soaking wet underwear.
Yunho continued to trail kisses down your thighs, pulling the stockings down, and something inside him broke when he traced his thumb on the wet patch on your underwear.
âSomeoneâs been enjoying this,â he commented, locking eyes with you. His gaze was dark and you could tell that he was doing his best to take this slow.
âClearly,â you scoffed, knowing fully well how hard he was as well.
âTell me, love. Tell me what you want me to do to you tonight.â
You took a deep breath at his commanding tone, feeling a fresh wave of arousal course through you as his breath caressed your thighs. âTouch me, Yunho.â
âHow?âÂ
You looked at the mafia consigliere, almost in disbelief. Did he want you to say that out loud too?Â
Oh, but what a sight he was, looking up at you from between your thighs.Â
âHowever would you prefer⊠Lieutenant Jeong?â
The last thing you saw was Yunhoâs smirk before he looked down, his hair hiding his face as he pulled your panties down in a swift motion and you barely had time to shrug them off before he spread your legs apart, cocking his head in satisfaction at the sight of you before attaching his mouth to your core.
The moan that his action produced out of you came from somewhere so deep within you, quickly masked by another as he continued to suck on your aching clit, providing you with both relief and edging you to no end. You dug your fingers in the sheets, in his hair, anywhere as he continued with his ministrations, licking a stripe up your wet folds and teasing with his finger before crawling up and meeting your lips in a kiss, making you get lost in how you tasted on his tongue. If that wasnât enough, he inserted his finger inside you, making you squirm in pleasure.Â
He watched you intently as he pumped his finger inside and out, exploring your cavity and muttering praises.Â
âYunhoâ I donât think I can last very long, fuckââ
âThatâs okay,â he caressed your head with his free hand, inserting another finger inside you and holding you in place as you squirmed with need. âI need to hear your pretty little sounds some moreâ donât be shy. Youâre doing so well for me.â
As your breath started quickening, a telltale sign of an approaching orgasm, Yunho started to rub your clit in circles and pump his fingers inside at a rapidly growing pace, and perhaps the last straw was the way he kissed the top of your stomach because you came crashing down, your moans filling the room. All the while, Yunho muttered praises about how good you were, how you did so well for him, how pretty your moans sounded to him, and how he wanted this so bad too.
He got up to grab a towel from the stand and wiped his fingers before he got back on his position on top of you, kissing you deeply as if he had nowhere else to be, the movement of his lips leisurely but full of desperation. You traced your hands down on his abdomen and he broke apart to look you in the eyes and make sure you were okay once again.
âI want you,â you told him and he exhaled as if still in disbelief. âPlease. Donât make me beg.â
Yunho bit his lips before unbuckling his pants and taking them off, leaving himself in just his boxers that struggled to hold the sheer size of him. Your lips parted in surprise at the sight of himâ you were aware that the man was big but this? Your mouth felt dry yet your core throbbed, knowing what it wanted.Â
As Yunho took off his boxers, you sucked your breath when his cock sprang free, riding upwards and painfully hard. You met his gaze, sharing a small laugh before he moved to take something out of his pocketâ
âOf course,â you shook your head at the packet of condom. âAlways keeping it on you, eh?â
âJust in case,â he teased. âBut really. My intentions tonight were only to feed you and take care of you.â
âSqueeze in some kisses,â you quoted him, reminding him of what he said earlier. âAnd⊠some orgasms?â
âNever said that, but Iâm not complaining. Are you?â He raised a brow and you told him to shut the fuck up and get started. That had him snickering and after he finished wearing the condom, he slid between your legs, letting his hard length slide against your wet folds as he peppered kisses all over your face. You wrapped your legs around his hips, your body aching with need all over when he started to suck on your neck. While he kissed you, he started to slide his length inside you and when you winced painfully, he stopped right away.
âItâs just been a while,â you assured him. âBe gentle.â
âOf course,â he nodded, understanding and caressing your head, planting a kiss on your forehead. âJust relax, okay? Breathe.â
You obeyed, following his movements. He caressed your thighs, easing the tension out of them and when you fully relaxed, you finally realised how much you had stiffened. He pushed a bit more inside, this time caressing your abdomen and easing the tension from there.
âYouâre doing so well,â he whispered, continuing to rub your thighs, switching to your abdomen every once in a while. âDeep breaths. Just let go, and if you want to stop, let me know, okay?.â
âYessir,â you managed, relaxing some more.
âYouâre safe with me, okay?â He kissed your head again. âI would never hurt you. Let me know if itâs too much.â
Somehow, those words were what made the remaining tension in your body snap and Yunho found himself sliding in easier, though he made sure to monitor your reactions, slowing himself considerably. Once he was fully sheathed inside, he cursed out loud.
âHow does it feel?â He asked, unmoving. âFuck, youâre so tight, love.â
âSo full,â you breathed shakily simply because you were finally starting to feel the arousal come back with full force. âMove, please.â
Yunho nodded, sharing open mouthed kisses with you as he started moving rhythmically in and out of you. His movements remained gentle until you felt comfortable enough to take control, wrapping your legs around him once again. That was when he started to pump inside you harder, your kisses growing sloppier and moans intermingling with your breaths.Â
âFuck,â he muttered, holding your face as he pumped inside you harder, the interval between your breaths growing shorter. âWanted this so bad, didnât you?â
âYes,â you breathed. âSo long. Iâ I needed you. So long now,â you managed to say.
âGod, youâre amazing,â he said, resting his lips against your cheek. âIâm not going to last long.â
âNeither am I,â you breathed, âyouâre doing so well.â
âFuck,â Yunho latched his lips on the crook of your neck as he pumped harder. âCum for me, darling. Cum all over my cock.â
You nodded, moments away from a shattering orgasm which you achieved exactly when Yunho put some pressure on your clit with his thumb, your loud gasp echoing off the walls, the dim lights of the lamps filling your vision as your eyes widened and you came with a force that made you wonder if you would even be able to stand up again.Â
Yunho, however, was not done. He kept pumping you through your orgasm, his own breath shaky and with his hands holding your hips and a few harsh thrusts, he groaned deeply as he came, riding out his high and dropping on top of you, peppering kisses on your neck as if thanking you for the ride.Â
It took you both a few moments to recover before he lifted himself up, making sure you were okay. You nodded and he caressed your face lovingly.
âI know people say that you shouldnât say these words with your dick inside someone,â Yunho laughed. âBut lord help me, Luna. I love you so much.â
You laughed at his admission, kissing his cheek. âI think I love you too, Yunho. Very, very much.â
Yunho grinned, sliding out of you and quickly discarding his condom before bringing some towels to clean you up. You let him take care of you, watching him with a smile.
âOr maybe it was the sex,â you teased, poking his thigh with your toes.
âHey,â Yunho almost whined, pulling you by your legs and making you laugh out loud in surprise. Yunho attacked you with kisses all over your face until you admitted that it was not (just) the sex but also actual feelings.Â
You really did love him. You told him that he was blind if he didnât see that in your actions already.
So he picked you up and took you inside the shower. You let the big, scary army man bow down on his knees as he cleaned you up and kissed your skin. You let the gangster wash your body, holding you as if you were fragile. You let the consigliere hold you close, wrapping you both in one big towel as you struggled to make your way out, teeth chattering with cold as you put on whatever you found and got inside the covers, quickly.
You let the manâ your friend and your partnerâ hold you protectively as you both fell asleep in the warmth of each otherâs embrace.

Engagement of QL Fandom in Indian Queer Media
I was tagged by @lurkingshan and invited to respond to an ask she received from @impala124 that noted the absence of India in the Asian queer media spaces and discussions, and questioned the reasons behind it. @starryalpacasstuff has also responded to it in a great post (check out the reblog additions for a treasure trove of Indian queer media recs), discussing, among many things, Koreaâs culture export aiding their queer media ventures, access to Indian queer media, and the quality of Indian queer media. @twig-teaâs addition discussed the ease of access of Thai BLs via YouTube and how it prompted Korea and Japan to re-enter the genre.
My thoughts on Indian queer media are complicated and involve several detours to understand Indian media culture, its economic power, and how it navigates international viewership. For context, I am an Indian cinephile who grew up watching a wide variety of Indian media in terms of both language and genre. I naturally transitioned into watching Western content as globalization of the 2010s brought HBO and Comedy Central to Indian screens, and later sought out queer media, Asian media and Asian queer media on the internet.
Indian Media Industry - A Primer
I know there are a lot of countries right now that produce QL media, so I am gonna mainly consider Thailand, Japan, and Korea, the three countries most prolific with ql, for the purpose of this discussion. All of these countries, while regionally diverse, have managed to considerably homogenize in language and culture over the course of history and colonization. India, on the other hand, is still significantly and distinctly diverse in language, culture, religion, food, media styles, social norms, and on and on. India has 22 official languages and thousands of regional ones that are used in various capacities everyday. This diversity is then reflected in the media produced by India, with multiple powerhouse film industries dominating box offices simultaneously. Bollywood is the biggest one and obviously well known internationally, but Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali-language film industries are successful in their own right and consistently produce box office hits and self-sustain in the larger Indian media landscape. This makes domestic media highly regional in India. Even today, in the age of social media, it takes a box office success to the tune of hundreds of millions of rupees for a film to break out of its domestic audience and cross over into other Indian states.
This diversity has also led to the different industries developing media styles unique to them. I watched this video a while ago of a creator documenting his experience of dipping toes into Indian Cinema for the first time, and he ends up covering three movies from three different industries, because the pathos of each of them is so fundamentally different yet effective in their own ways. This diversity also applies to the television industry, both traditional cable TV soaps, and the modern shows made for streaming sites. And all of this, *waves hands*, presents a set of challenges like no other country faces for both Indian queer creators and Indian queer media audiences.
The Challenges for Creators
Since the Indian media industry is not a big monolith and is made up of multiple film industries, queer creators who are trying to get their foot in the door will face a unique uphill battle in whichever regional industry theyâre trying to break into. And trying to research, learn, and understand each and every single one of them will take me and my non-existent research team years, so the simpler thing to do would be listing the factors that have worked for other countries to foster their media industries to produce QL content, and discuss if India could replicate them. The list goes like this:
Japanâs rich history in yaoi
Thailandâs use of BL as a soft power to promote tourism
Koreaâs culture export via kpop and other media
While India does have religious mythology that discusses sex, gender and queerness, it is often subtext with a lot of intersectionality. Does Ardhanarishvara represent fluid gender, or a symbol of harmony, or both? The debates are endless. Japanâs yaoi roots are as deep as they are explicit. And this rich history could be why the Japanese domestic audience is open to queer media even when the country is still conservative.
Thailandâs rise as a major player in the QL industry is remarkable, but there is a case to be made that the countryâs media industry was directly and indirectly boosted by the governmentâs interest in establishing revenue from tourism, and exporting culture to international audiences via food and media. While the revenue from tourism in India is substantial, the Indian economy is not built on it. And the Indian media industry is thriving and regularly makes bank with their already established content models, so the producers have a pretty low incentive to deviate and fund queer media.
I bet every coin I own that not a single one of us on this hellsite have successfully eluded the allure of Korean media in our lives. The Korean media industry is a well-calibrated machine that shall and will target every single human into funneling their time, attention and money into the Korean culture and economy. And I think queer creators looking to make queer content in Korea wouldâve had good incubation in an industry that was looking to make as much content as possible. And once again, while Indian movies have significant international box office collections, that is not where the Indian media industry, and just India in general, makes its money. The priorities are just not the same. And to be perfectly honest, India is nowhere near the level of Korea at producing and exporting television shows to international audiences.
All of this is a long winded way of saying that the conditions required to foster a QL industry in India are not the same as what we have seen work so far from the other major players. And sadly no one has really figured out the winning formula yet.
These are just a few reasons, and I havenât even discussed nepotism and how painful class mobility is in India, making it even harder for new queer creators to break into the industry. Thereâs a reason why movies with queer representation like Badhaai Do, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, and Kapoor & Sons all feature characters in the upper middle class or above. Hell, theyâre even played by actors whose portfolio is already filled with daring and experimental roles, or by first- or second-gen nepo babies who would literally have nothing to lose from the potential backlash for playing a queer character. Poor, queer characters in Indian media have never been a part of a fluffy romance as far as I know. They are reserved for the gritty dramas where intersectionality of queerness, poverty, class and caste could be examined.
The Challenges for the Audience
And once again, all of this, *aggressively waves hands*, makes things harder for even the domestic audience to engage with Indian queer media, let alone international audiences. Kathaal - The Core, a 2023 Malayalam movie about a queer man in his fifties coming out of the closet and contesting in his village body elections, was a box office success in Kerala, and I can tell yâall with complete certainty that not many people outside of Kerala wouldâve even heard of it. And this was not some small indie venture â in fact, the lead characters were played by Mammootty and Jyothika, who are both absolute legends in their own right in the South Indian film industry.
Super Deluxe was a 2019 Tamil-language black comedy film that tells four interwoven stories that run in parallel, and one of the stories is about a trans woman who, pre-transition, was married and had a son. She returns to her family as her post-transition self after years of disappearance, and the film engages in conversation around sex and gender, through the innocent questions of her young son. The movie is gorgeously made, and outrageously sharp and witty in its commentary on societyâs views on sex, morality, religion and family. And once again, I donât think it is well-known outside of the domestic and international award-circuit audiences it was promoted to (last I checked, it was available to domestic audiences on Netflix).
Sometimes, even the domestic audience might miss the queer representation in their regional media when it is indie enough to not get aggressively promoted. The Hindi-language anthology movie from Netflix, Ajeeb Daastaans (2021), featured a story where two women from different caste and social class meet at the workplace (the sapphic story, Geeli Pucchi, starts at 1:17:05, if anyone wants to check it out). It served biting commentary on the intersectionality of queerness, misogyny, caste and class. And once again, Iâve never found a person with whom I could discuss it with (other than my mom, with whom I watched it).
And sometimes, even when a massive show with queer representation is well promoted and well received by critics, it still manages to fly under the radar in Indian queer fandom spaces. Amazon Prime India spent a lot of coin on the show Made in Heaven (2019) â and it was worth it. The show follows the lives of two wedding planners, Tara and Karan. Karan is closeted (except to his close friends) for most of the show, but after he makes some powerful enemies in his line of work, he gets publicly outed, which puts him on the path of dealing with his familyâs shades of acceptance, queer rights activism, and reconciling with an old friend. The car scene in episode 9 made me cry, and yet Iâve never read a word about this show from Indian QL fan blogs here on Tumblr.
Following every film and TV show that releases in one language, across all modes and platforms, and keeping an eye out for queer representation is hard enough. Doing it in multiple languages is downright impossible. And then personal preferences come into play. Personally, I enjoy nearly all genres of media, but I am primarily an angst monster, so I seek out and watch sad shit on the regular. All four examples Iâve listed in this section are good queer representations, but they are deeply sad, rage-inducing, heartbreaking and realistic. If one wanted to watch an Indian queer romance thatâs inside the bubble, Iâm not sure if they can even find one â I have certainly not come across any. Even the queer Bollywood movies designed for a box office run, paying homage to iconic Bollywood romance sequences, were still outside the bubble. When a niche audience like the QL fandom collides with a complex media-churning machine like the Indian media industry that is fundamentally not designed to cater to them, all we get is a lot of puzzled looks and question marks.
A Thought Experiment On The Future Of Indian QLs
Now that I have established the challenges, I want to engage in a little thought experiment â if we were to receive a steady stream of Indian QL content, what would it look like, and how can the fandom engage with it?
If we are looking for content from a stable production entity for Indian queer media, like Thailandâs GMMTV, Japanâs MBS Drama Shower, and Koreaâs Strongberry, we would be waiting for a long time, at the very least a decade or two. What we could get are small indie queer shows like Romil and Jugal, squirreled away in a streaming platform exclusive to India and only accessible internationally via VPN. Another example is the list of sapphic shows @twig-tea shared with us a while ago, here. These are gonna be low budget, probably-not-great-quality shows reminiscent of early GMMTV.
Another variety of QL content we could get are the Bollywood queer romance films and TV shows. They will be cheesy and tropey and romantic, and might interact with the bubble, but probably mostly from the safety of an upper middle class setting. This means they would eventually run out of fresh perspectives they could tune into in their limited scope and the stories might turn stale and repetitive (Iâm deriving this from the general state of things in the Indian media landscape over the last couple years). International access might be a little easier than the previous case, but not as easy as going to YouTube and hitting play.
The third and final variety are the gritty dramas with heavy social, cultural, religious, gender and class commentary that Indian cinema industry has always made, and has upgraded in the recent years to include queerness. Once again, the access will be hard, but if we are looking for queer stories that also show the audience what it is like being queer in India, beyond the glitz, the glam and the colors of pre-packaged Indian experience often sold to the West, this is where we will find it. Most of it will be sad, but we are a sad bunch who constantly make sad shit, so it will be on brand for us.
And all of these different varieties of content are gonna need to be picked up and promoted by the Indian folks in the QL fandom who are tuned into these regional industries. India not being a cultural monolith that is easy to package and ship is precisely why we have all these beautiful and crazy and sometimes even contradictory styles of media that are offered for us to explore. And therefore, the fandom engagement on Indian QL content would also vastly differ from the fandom engagement for Japan, Thailand and Korea. A dedicated fandom captain might not emerge, but rather, a collective group of folks tuning into and promoting finds from their regional industries would be the way to go. In addition, if this content is not available in English, we would need fan subbers to provide translation expertise to even make it accessible, something we see often for Japanese media on Tumblr.
I know from observation that watching media in a different regional language could sometimes be as foreign to Indian audiences as watching media from other countries. The language, traditions, mannerisms, social mores and food would all be different from region to region, but I guess it would be a good litmus test to observe how well the fandom acclimates to a culture that is so eye-wateringly diverse and not as constantly promoted to them.
When I was texting @waitmyturtles discussing how we can approach answering this question (remember when this all started with a question, some two thousand-ish words ago? Yes, that question), at a point in our conversation I exclaimed "Ugh, everything in India is too complicated!" This long-ass post of mine is in no way the complete account of why things are the way they are in the Indian queer media landscape. But all I know for sure is that itâs not simple. And I really do not want anything related to India to be simple, because being unbearably frustrating and complicated is not a bug, but a feature of India. The road to Indian QLs is unique, but I will do my best to check the paths and share and recommend them to my friends whenever possible. And I invite my fellow Indian QL fans to do the same.

PSDs For Dummies <3
â as written by a dummy
hello dear readers and welcome back to canarysage, the worldâs least comprehensive tutorial blog. today, weâre back at it again with photopea for dummies, and weâre tackling something i probably should have done first: psds.
example psds are: 1 (@cutesiplushi) 2 (@didlivio) & 3 (@lumieron)
what is a psd?
excellent question, dear reader! psd stands for photoshop document, and itâs a type of file format (like .png or .gif) that allows you to store a projectâs individual layers! itâs a file format that, for obvious reasons, is exclusive to photoshop and photopea.
in editing circles, psd has become shorthand for filter. people use psds to save configurations of adjustment layers that are then used to filter images consistently, without having to remake them every time. when someone posts a psd, theyâre posting a folder (hopefully itâs in a folder) with their specific set of adjustment layers for anyone to use!
where can i get psds?
right here on tumblr! check your favorite edit blogs, as they may have posted some, or search âfree psdâ or âpsd coloringâ in the search function. tumblr doesnât allow you to upload psds directly, so youâll be redirected to a site outside tumblr. probably either deviantart, google drive, or ko-fi, all of which are easy to use. deviantart requires you to have an account to download anything (luckily, an account is free!) and ko-fi may require you to pay money. google drive doesnât have a search function in and of itself, but itâs extremely easy to download off of.
also, shameless self plug, but i post psds right here on canarysage! i personally use deviantart, but again, an account is free. if send me an ask, i may be able to provide you with a google drive link, if you ask really nicely (ïœĄâąÌáŽ-)â§
and of course if you donât want to use someone elseâs psd, you can always make your own.
how do i use a psd?
once you have a psd of your choice downloaded, open up photopea! or photoshop, if youâre rich like that.
once you open photopea, click this here button right in the middle of the screen, the one that says âopen from computerâ

from there, go to choose files and open up your psd! depending on from whom you got it, psds will look different once you open them. iâm using one of my own as an example.

you can see thereâs two layers in my psd, a folder, and an image. the image is just for me so i know which psd this is once i save itâi like to save all my psds with images of real people so i know how it looks on moodboards or stimboards.
the folder is the important part here, thatâs where the adjustment layers are contained. to transfer a psd, you can either go to file > new

which lets you start an entirely new project, or you can open an image using file > open

which will give you the image you selected.
as an aside, if youâre opening a psd and you already have a project in progress, make sure to click file > open and not file > open & place, as open & place wonât give you the adjustment layers.
then to move the folder, go to layer > duplicate layer into while having selected the folder (just tap on it, that will make it a lighter gray to show itâs selected) and duplicate the folder into whatever your image is

iâm moving mine to a random image of honami i found which is why itâs named like that. once the folderâs duplicated into your project, go over and take a look!

you should now see something like this! ensure that the folder is on top, as otherwise the adjustment layers wonât work.
hereâs the difference between the unfiltered image and the image with my psd!
to save images in photopea (like i did just now) go to file > export as > (your preferred file format)

which will pull up something like this

i recommend either saving as a png (for still images) or as a gif (for⊠gifs) but thatâs up to you! in order to save a psd, go to file > save as psd! that will save your project to your device

bear in mind that tumblr doesnât accept psds as a file format, so if youâre going to post an edit, you have to save it as something else. also, donât just save other peopleâs psds and claim them as your ownâpsds take a lot of time, effort, and skill, like any other art form.
can i make my own psds?
100% yes! i canât give you a step-by-step process unfortunately, as there really is no one way to make psds. i recommend familiarizing yourself with adjustment layer and seeing what works.
shameless self plug again, but you can check out my other posts in this series to find out about some of the adjustment layers!
basically, i like to think of adjustment layers as a few different categories. light/darkness adjustments (ie: brightness/contrast, levels, curves, exposure, black & white, and threshold to a certain extent.) saturation adjustments (vibrance, hue/saturation.) color adjustments (hue/saturation, color balance, photo filter, channel mixer, selective color, gradient map depending on how you use it, and replace color.) and also, miscellaneous (posterize, which gives your images a pop-art crunchy kind of effect, invert, which⊠inverts your colors, and color lookup, which is a set of filters unto itself)
how you utilize adjustment layers is up to you! i personally like to use a variety and see what happens, my personal favorites being channel mixer, photo filter, and hue/saturation. you can also utilize blending modes (shameless self plug again,) or opacity.
if you have no idea where to start, you can look at other peopleâs psds to see their process. donât copy or steal, for obvious reasons, but you can toggle layers on and off and see what happens and what each layer does.
making psds isnât as intimidating as it sounds, you just have to start a project and start creating! it gets really fun once you get the hang of it (*'âœ'*)
i donât edit with photoshop or photopea, can i still use psds?
short answer: nope!
long answer: if you want use psds but youâre super used to ibis paint or whatever you currently use, have no fear! you donât have to switch all your editing to photopea. you can make your main project in ibis or whatever as normal, then upload it to photopea and add a psd.
you can also make perfectly fine filters in ibis paint in your own right, with enough tweaking. thereâs also apps such as polarr and picsart which come with filters, but iâve never used them so iâm unable to vouch for how they work.
do i need to use psds when editing?
nope! psds are 100% optional. theyâre a style like anything elseâsome people prefer them and some people donât. itâs up to you.
did you genuinely write 1178 words answering questions no one asked?
yep.
what if i have a question you didnât answer?
feel free to shoot me an ask! i donât mind explaining further, and i promise i donât bite. as with anything, this is just meant to explain to anyone who needs assistanceâphotopea for dummies by a dummy, after all. we can be confused together!
are you done now?
i am! congratulations for reading this far!
yours truly, canarysage

Mind Over Matter
Zaros Athaâlin x Reader
You and Zaros have different ways of tackling the issues of Serulla.
You had been pouring over papers for hours without pause âdays. The stacks of paper on your desk only increased in size, the additional information you had requested to get a better understanding of the problems that needed fixing â the two-class system in society, the strained trade relation with some of the neighboring kingdoms, the threatening military conflict over a stretch of land rich in resources â adding to the weight pushing down on your desk and your shoulders.Â
Zaros seemed strangely unbothered by it all. Not once had he sat down with you to pour over these documents, only reading the letters addressed to the palace and following his own communique.Â
The proposition of ruling together had seemed like a match made in heaven. Many of Zarosâ strengths were your weaknesses and vice versa, but this fundamentally different approach to problem-solving was grinding on your nerves.Â
âMy Earis,â he said, standing behind your chair as his hands rubbed soothing circles against your aching shoulders, âtake a break. Nothing good will come out of you working yourself into the ground.â
âI need to fix the economy,â you muttered, eyes boring into the deep red numbers of the kingdomâs treasury. âSomethingâs not adding up.â
He offered his hand, and you passed him the paper with a sigh, leaning your head against your hands and releasing a deep groan. There was so much to do, so much to understand. There were so many problems to analyze, and so many issues to fix!
Zaros hummed, his eyebrows furrowing as his eyes glided across the paper. âI will talk with the treasurer,â he said. âWe should sit down with the council of commerce anyway over the issue of the declining exports. Iâm sure they can enlighten us.â
âBut we need to know these things. We need to understand the theory behind it all to be able to fix it practically. How do you expect us to solve an issue we donât fully understand?â
âTheory and practice differ,â Zaros said, setting down the paper and wrapping his arms around your neck to bury his face in your hair comfortably.Â
Despite yourself, you could not suppress the soft chuckle tearing out of your chest at his affection. You raised a hand, brushing back strands of his blond hair and tilting your head back to kiss him. You knew he meant well, you knew he cared as much about Serulla as you did; his method of problem-solving was simply different than yours. With time, you were sure you could find a middle ground, a balance between theory and practice that would reflect this unlikely alliance between you and him, perhaps the polar opposite in many ways.Â
âYour books donât have all the answers, love of my life. We will sit down with the council, and they will explain the issue and advise us on the best course of action. You have poured over this enough, and Iâm sure there are many excellent ideas in that brilliant head of yours on which politics to employ. Come now, it is beautiful outside and I long to take a stroll in the gardens with you.â
You gave a hesitant hum, reluctantly leaving your desk as Zaros pressed another kiss against your cheek and tugged on your arm to accompany him. âWhat has gotten into you?â you said, walking beside him across the field of green before reaching the little path leading through the garden and all its many mesmerizing flowers.Â
âWhat do you mean?â he asked, linking your arms together as he leaned against your side, a smile on his face as you strolled in the gentle sunlight.Â
âThis,â you said. âIâm not used toâ Youâve become very affectionate recently. Iâm not complaining, but I would like to know what brought it on.â
Zaros was silent for a long moment, the smile slowly slipping off his face as he gazed at the flowers. âTruthfully,â he said, opening his mouth to continue, but the words seemed stuck in his throat. He swallowed, his eyes not daring to meet yours as he finally bit out, âIâ I have felt lonely recently.
âItâs been less than half a year since the trials ended andâ and it has been such a change for me. I love it, believe me. Ruling with you has been my dream for as long as I could think, resolving the glaring issues in society and shaping Serulla with the welfare of the people in mind more than anything else feels like fulfilling my lifeâs purpose.Â
âBut sometimes it leaves me feeling hollow. Iâm not doing as much as I want to do. Iâm not as good as I want to be, not as wise, not as decisive. And youâ sometimes you get so stuck in your papers and theory, that I feel like I canât reach you.Â
âYou get so invested in an issue and work out such brilliant plans. Nothing breaks your concentration, and you forget reality around you and me andâ and I hate how easy it is for you to slip away while I run around the kingdom alone, talking with the people, seeing the issues you pick apart at your desk.â
You took in his words, expression now solemn as you turned them around in your head. âIâm sorry,â you said, continuing despite him gently shaking his head interrupting the words that were surely forming on his tongue: Itâs not your fault. âI didnât know you felt that way. I never meant to neglect you, or push you aside or make you feel unwanted â I know that I can get⊠lost when there are a lot of things on my mind, and with the Kingdom the way it isââ
âI donât fault you for doing whatâs best for Serulla,â he interrupted.
âYes. Yes, I know. We have different ways of working, but we both do our part. Iâ I guess I never thought you would like me to join you. I thought you were happy to keep things separate. Youâve never joined me either.â
Zaros chuckled sadly despite the small smile playing on his lips. âI never thought you wanted me there.â
You huffed, catching his gaze as you shook your head at this miscommunication. âWell, I do,â you said, placing your free hand over his arm that was still intertwined with yours and squeezing it. âAnd you can come to me any time. I couldnât stand the thought that you feel alone when Iâm right here.â
âThank you,â he said warmly, the smile he shot you outshining the sun in its radiance, âand I do, too. Maybe we can merge our schedules from now on.â

The Beast's User Manual - Clavis (His POV)
CLAVIS YOU ABSOLUTE CUTIE
As usual, canât guarantee 100% accuracy on this
In front of my fiancee, Iâve always considered myself to be an elegant, magnificent, joyful, and loving gentleman.
If Emma feels even an ounce of unhappiness, itâs the loving gentlemanâs disgraceâ
I plan to keep working hard at it every day.
--
(Itâs that time alreadyâŠ)
Iâve been holed up in my room dealing with documents for several hours alreadyâ
After the usual breakfast with Emma, briefing with servants, waking Chevalier up, time slipped away as I got to work.Â
As I moved to relax my body, which had become stiff after sitting in a chair for so long, a wave of sleepiness hit me.
(Perhaps Iâve been pushing myself to hard lately)
(Itâs been a fruitful time, but I still havenât gotten enough sleep)
(I have a meeting laterâŠI can afford a short break)
I stumbled over to the sofa and sat down, sensing that Iâm at my limit with the yawn I let out.
I removed my ascot tie, loosened my collar, and lied down.
(Still, the situationâs calmed down considerablyâŠ)
~~ Flashback ~~
Clavis: Several jewelry dealers are scheduled to have dinner with us today. Weâre having a small party, but what do you think will happen when we show off our love?
Emma: I think you can get the message across without having to show off.
Clavis: Yes, theyâll definitely pay us tribute. At any rate, the purpose of the companyâs for me to arrange export destinations. I wonder how much jewelry will be collected to gain my favor. Iâll arrange a deal with the one whose jewelry best suits your taste as an honor to the winner.
~~ Flashback End ~~
Originally, the party with the jewelers was a strategy for Emma to gain footing.
(Jewelers' customers are mainly noblesâŠ)Â
(The information they see and hear spreads among other nobles)
(The more favor shown, the better the noblesâ attitudes toward Emma will be)
(Nothing wrong with taking measures)
(I also wanted to use that as an excuse to show off my cute fiancee)
~~ Flashback ~~
Merchant: Iâve heard rumors, but it looks like the real deal, Your Highness.
Clavis: Yes. Go home with that image of our wonderful bond seared into your memory.
Merchant: As you say. However, Your Highness must have a lot on your mindâŠ
Clavis: Oh, what sharp ears you have?
Merchant: In our line of work, youâll need to be well-informed or youâll miss out on huge profits. His highness comes from a prestigious line that has served the Michel family for generations⊠Iâve heard that the head of the family is making some kind of move.
Clavis: What, itâs just some stubborn old man trying to play games with me. However, itâs not my intention for my fiancee to hear about this.
Merchant: Of course Iâm aware of that. Thereâs already been rumors going around about Your Highness and the head of the family⊠People always want fresh rumors. Iâll do my small part to help. This is not just a quarrel between Your Highness and the head of the family⊠The huge profits coming from paying tribute to Lady Emma are what we merchants are after.
Clavis: Haha, youâre very competent. I also like to choose my business partners carefully, but I think I can work well with you. Can I expect great thingsâŠ?
~~ End flashback ~~
(That party went well. Doesnât look like Emma noticed anything was amiss)
(After all, thereâs always troubling rumors when it comes to women related to royaltyâŠ)
(I canât forgive such rumors that would wipe Emmaâs smile away)
~~ Flashback ~~
Emma: MhmmâŠAll these sweets are just to my taste!
Emma: Their signature âRabbit and Leopard love explosion cakeâ in particular is the tastiestâŠ
Clavis: I see, I see. It was worth asking the owner for some privileges as an investor.
Emma: Ah, so it was Clavisâ idea after all.
Clavis: Haha. I didnât think youâd notice. Your power of love never ceases to amaze me.
Emma: Youâre just easy to understand. HeheâŠIâm really fortunate.
Clavis: Hm?
Emma: With you, thereâs always something going on every day, but Iâve never felt unhappy. Thank you always, Clavis.
~~ Flashback end ~~
(Itâs my duty to protect that smileâŠ)
(Both as a gentleman and as her fiance. I donât want to be a useless man that causes her trouble)
Suddenly, my eyes landed on a rabbit plushie I had left on the table.
With this I could use as a substitute for Emma for when sheâs not by my side.
I reached out for the rabbit and hugged it close as I fell asleep.
Iâd be dead if anyone were to see me like this, but this roomâs a safe space protected by a lock and key.
(EmmaâŠ)
(I wonder if you still feel fortunate at this momentâŠ)
(...)
(...)
(...MnâŠ)
???: -visâŠ
(WhaâŠI think I hearâŠsomething)
(NoâŠIâm still half asleep)
(Is it timeâŠfor the meeting already?)
(ButâŠthe bell hasnât rung yetâŠ)
Clavis: NnâŠItâs notâŠtime yetâŠ
(Iâve been pulling a lot of all-nightersâŠlatelyâŠ)
(Outside the rumors and the investmentsâŠthereâs still more to doâŠ)
(AndâŠhuhâŠ)
(...)
Clavis: *yawn* IâmâŠsleepyâŠIâve had enough, good nightâŠ
(I donât want toâŠwake upâŠ)
(...)
(...MnâŠ)
(ThatâŠscentâŠ)
(Smells like EmmaâŠ)
(IfâŠ)
(If anyone could enter this roomâŠitâd be EmmaâŠ)
(...)
(?!)
It took only a moment for me to wake up from my nap.
When I opened my eyes, I saw Emma right there, smiling at me.
Clavis: âŠ
Emma: G-good morningâŠ
Clavis: âŠ
Emma: Are you still half asleep?
The moment I realized what was going on, I got to my feet.
I hurriedly grabbed my ascot tie hanging on the back of the couch and composed myself as I tied it.
(Damn it, Iâm such an idiotâŠ)
(I gave Emma the key to my room)
(If Cyril came calling for me and I didnât respond, then he wouldâve asked Emma for helpâŠ)
I casually stuff the rabbit into a corner of the sofa.
Clavis: EmmaâŠ
Emma: Yes?
Clavis: What did you see?
Emma: Your sleeping face.
Clavis: Did I say anything strange?
Emma: You said something cute.
Clavis: âŠI see âŠ
I couldnât put on my usual smile and hid my face with a hand.
(I talked in my sleep, and she probably saw the rabbit tooâŠ)
(...I feel like dying)
Somehow, my face felt hot enough to boil water.
Emma: Are you, by any chance, embarrassed?
Clavis: Haha, thereâs no way. Itâs just that, you know⊠Yes, I thought it strange for you to sneak into my room without permission.
Emma: HeheâŠYou prank me often.
I thought Iâd return the favor.
Clavis: I seeâŠyou got me
(I never thought someone would try to get revenge at this pointâŠ)
(My cool frontâs now ruined, isnât it?)
(Does she think Iâm cute or somethingâŠ? Itâs okay, really)
When the heat somewhat subsided, I removed my hand from my face.
Emmaâs eyes werenât filled with disappointmentăŒThey were sparkling.
Emma: And itâs my dream to become a Clavis master.
Clavis: Hm? Whatâs with that amusing title?
Emma: Itâs a title reserved for those that you know ins and outs, and can hold the reins.
It was a great learning experience today to see Clavis after you woke up from your nap.
Clavis: âŠ
(If you say so, then youâve already become a master)
(Because youâre the only one that has me completely wrapped around your finger)
Emma: By the way, Clavis. Here.
Emma pointed at a spot above my ear and I quickly smoothed that spot down.
I felt the bounciness of my bedhead and wanted to jump into a hole.
Emmaâs shoulders shake and she looks down as if she couldnât hold back anymore.
(Well if Emmaâs enjoying herself then itâs not so badăŒ)
(ăŒNOT. I need to fix this as soon as possible)
Clavis: Thatâs a good attitude, my dear fiancee. I like your courage to prank me as part of your journey to becoming a master.
HoweverâŠ
I grabbed her hand and sat her on the sofa before pinning her down.
In the same way, Iâve mastered Emma.
I think about her all hours of the day.
In this caseâŠI could think of one or two tricks.
Clavis: You should be more careful.
Itâs too naive to be satisfied with a prank. You have to expect payback.
I kissed Emmaâs forehead before sliding my lips down to her cheek and then jaw, turning her face a bright red.
(GoodâŠ)
Continuing my attack, I placed a hand on her smooth leg and let it crawl upward.
I fiddled with her skirt, which had hiked up from me pushing her down.
Emma: C-ClavisâŠItâs almost time for the meeting!
Clavis: I know.
Emma: But your hands are still wanderingâŠ!
Clavis: Thanks to you, I woke up ahead of schedule. I have plenty of time to tease you.
(If I want to call myself an elegant, magnificent, joyful, and loving gentleman, Iâll need to forget what just happened)
Any protest is silenced by a kiss.
This usually sweeps Emma awayăŒor so it would seem.
However, just as our lips parted, my cheeks were caught between her hands and pulled back in.
(WhaâŠ)
Emma took the lead and kissed me. It wasnât a sweet peck, but an adult kind with a lot of tongue.
I was taken aback, not expecting this kind of retaliation.
Emma: Donât underestimate me.
Iâve been poisoned by you to the point that Cyril side-eyes me.
(...)
(AhâŠForget it)
(In front of such a lovely thing, my mistakes are not important)
Clavis: When did you get so good at handling me?
Emma: Hehe, does that mean you approve?
Clavis: Yes, Iâve lost.
(Emma is so much better than me)
Emma: You can leave yourself to me.
With Emma, my fatigueâs washed away by happiness.
(At the end of the dayâŠIâm working for myself, not my lovely fiancee.
(To make this happiness eternalâŠ)
(Letâs go the extra mile)

1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Fastback
1969 was, effectively, the final year for the Shelby Mustang. By now assembly had shifted in Michigan from California where it was contracted out to A.O. Smith Corporation. Smith, an established Motor City contractor, had brought a level of serious manufacturing skill, supplier management, procedure and standards never seen at Shelbyâs facility where LAX met the vibrant (and sometimes extreme) subculture of Venice, California.
Now largely designed and specified by Ford staffers, the 1969 Shelby Mustang was drastically different visually from the standard Mustangs, with a completely different nose and grille, a wide rectangular opening with blacked out grille flanked by 7â headlights and with Shelbyâs characteristic driving lights now smaller rectangular pieces below the attractive, but largely ineffective, bumper. The special Shelby hood had five ducts, three NACA-style surface ducts replaced the complicated but entertaining shaker hoods of years gone by to supply cold air directly to the engine air intake and two extractors at the back of the hood relieving underhood pressure and exhausting heated air in front of the windshield.
A surface duct behind the headlights and a scoop behind the door and in front of the rear wheel arch that was ducted to the rear brakes continued the performance theme. The rear panel was completely different from the Mustang, housing a set of 1965 Thunderbird sequential taillights with the rear license plate placed between them and including a small ducktail spoiler. The area under the bumper where standard Mustangs carried their license plate contained two rectangular outlets for the Shelbyâs dual exhaust system. Standard wheels were unique 5-spoke Mag Stars with alloy centers and chrome steel rims.
Under the hood lay the 428 Cobra Jet which had powered the â68 Shelby GT500KR. Both Ford and Shelby recognized the superiority of the high performance CJ and made it the standard engine for 1969âs Shelby Mustangs.Â
At the end of the 1969 model year 789 Shelby Mustangs were in-process at A.O. Smith. They were visually updated with black hood stripes and a chin spoiler and given new VINs. Otherwise the 1970s were exactly the same as the â69s making these two years essentially identical examples of the end of the Shelby Mustang series which had begun only a scant six years before.
Avidly sought by collectors and obsessively documented by the Shelby American Automobile Club, most Shelby Mustangs are well known and have well known histories. Occasionally, however, a example appears which has been out of sight for years. Even more rarely it turns out to have been little used and continuously maintained by a thoughtful and caring single owner for nearly forty years.
The Black Jade 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Sportsroof fastback offered here is one of those rare and highly desirable cars. It was delivered new to Fordâs dealer in Yokohama, Japan, Marubeni Motors K.K., and was sold thereafter to its first, and only, owner in Japan. It has been repainted in the original color once but is otherwise completely original, as delivered and has only 84,941km on its metric-calibrated export speedometer (52,779 miles.) Its sympathetic maintenance and care shows throughout in its clean, straight, rust-free condition.
Power of course comes from the 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet Ram Air V-8 engine which Ford and Shelby conservatively rated at 335 horsepower at 5,200rpm and a gut-wrenching 440 lb-ft torque at 3,400rpm. It puts the power through Fordâs highly regarded C-6 automatic transmission and Traction-Lok differential with high speed 3.00:1 gearing that takes full advantage of the CJ engineâs torque. In addition to the highly desirable drivetrain specification it is loaded with options including the Visibility Group, Goodyear white letter tires, Sport Deck folding rear seat, power front disc brakes, power steering, tilt steering column, Selectaire air conditioning, AM/8-track stereo radio, tinted glass, deluxe belts, tachometer and trip odometer.
It is finished in one of the Shelby Mustangâs most attractive colors, Black Jade. The interior and high back buckets seats are upholstered in black Clarion Knit/Corinthian vinyl that complements with Black Jade exterior.
It returned to the U.S. in 2006 but has never been titled by its current owner so it remains a one-owner car. Its absolutely clear history, one-owner provenance, highly original condition with known mileage and extensive options list are attributes shared by few Shelby Mustangs of this age. This is a rare opportunity for an astute collector to acquire a particularly significant, unmolested Shelby Mustang from the last, and most highly developed, series.

1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Fastback
Powered by a 428ci V8 engine mated to a C6 automatic transmission, this beauty includes the original #Shelby owner card, a copy of the Shelby work order and Window Sticker.

If Ice Could Burn - Jelsa | i

series masterlist

Elsa's gaze bored into the back of her advisorâs head, sharp and unrelenting. The conference room felt airless, time stretching unbearably as she struggled to stay present through yet another endless meeting. Elsa never liked trade meetings. She knew it was her responsibility as queen to sit at the table, to listen, to negotiateâbut that didnât mean she had to enjoy it. She was human, after all, even if others seemed to forget that.Â
She was finally broken from her thoughts by a sharp snap of fingers, too close for comfort, pulling her back to the present with a jolt of surprise.Â
âYour Majesty, are you paying attention? This trade agreement is detrimental to rebuilding our diplomatic ties with Weselton.â Elsa looked around the room, the hard gaze of a dozen men staring at her, watching, and waiting for a response. She stood up and let out a sigh.Â
âOf course I am. Now, weâll export dried cod, woven textiles, and if necessary, Iâll harvest those cooling blocks for their perishable goods.â She let out a small smile, hoping that was enough for them.Â
Her advisor let out a small cough and nervously crossed his arms. âWith all due respect, Your Majesty, wouldnât using your ice powers commercially be considered unethical and exploitative? Iâm not sure what our merchants would think of that. You know⊠using our own Queen as products for trade.â
âI donât see how itâd be exploitative. Finalize the trade agreement and have the documents to me by the end of the week. Meeting adjourned.â Elsa retorted, quickly exiting the conference room, cape flowing behind her down the hallway.
Elsa stopped in her tracks at a window in the Upper Hall. Her eyebrows raise as she stepped closer to it, the pattern on the glass looking too familiar. Ice. Her fingers lightly touched the glass. She squinted her eyes, getting a better look at it. This wasnât her ice. It was different, it was almost softer, more magical. Intricate tendrils of ice spiraled outward like silver veins, forming lace-like filigree that shimmered in the morning light. Some shapes curled like ferns, while others resembled feathers frozen mid-flight. The frost clung to the corners, dense and crystalline, fading into softer whirls as it stretched toward the center pane. Elsa gulped. This was unusual.
She picked up her pace, feet tapping down the stairs as she scanned the hall for any sign of Anna. Where was her sister when she actually needed her? If she had to guess, Anna was probably at the monthly Arendelle Farmerâs Market, most likely dragging Olaf from one booth to the next.
Even after almost a year since her coronation, Elsa still wasnât fully used to being out and about beyond the castle gates. She hesitated for half a second before sighing and motioning to the guards to let her through. The gates creaked open, and she stepped into the busy streets, eyes already sweeping the crowd.
The market was buzzing, full of people and noise and color, and now full of curious stares as their queen wandered through looking less than composed. Should she call out? No. That would only draw more attention. She weaved gently through the crowd, trying to keep her head down.
âAnna!âÂ
Her sister whipped her head around with a huge smile on her face. âElsa? What are you doing here? I thought you had a meeting?â Anna said, pulling her sister into a quick hug. She knew Elsa still wasnât adjusted to outside life, so it confused her as to why she was here. âIs⊠something wrong? Was it those awful council people again? If it was, Iâll march right in there andââ
âNo, Anna. Itâs something else. Can we talk?âÂ
Anna nodded, catching the anxious flicker in Elsaâs eyes. Without saying a word, she slipped her hand into her sisterâs and started guiding her through the crowd. The townspeople parted as they passed, casting curious glances, but Anna didnât slow down until they reached the castle.
Elsa stopped just short of the gates, her eyes locked on the frosted pattern spreading across the heavy wooden doors. The familiar swirl of snowflakes and sharp lines made her stomach twist.
âThere it is again,â she murmured, almost to herself.
Anna blinked at her. âIce? I mean⊠yeah, thatâs kind of your thing.â
But Elsa shook her head, her expression tight. She didnât say anything else until they were safely inside, Anna practically dragging her through the halls and into her bedroom. The door shut with a soft thud behind them.
âAnna⊠somethingâs really wrong,â Elsa finally said, dropping down on the edge of her bed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Anna sat beside her, brows knit. âWhat do you mean? Iâm really confused here.â
Elsaâs gaze flicked nervously around the room like someone might be listening. She hesitated, then finally spoke.
âThat ice out thereâitâs not mine. I didnât do it. And itâs spring, Anna. It shouldnât even be there.â
Annaâs eyes widened. âWait⊠not your ice? Then whose is it?â She paused, searching Elsaâs face. âAre you sure itâs not just⊠like, leftover? Or maybe something triggered your powers without you realizing?â
Elsa shook her head slowly, the fear in her eyes deepening. Anna wrapped her arms around her sister, holding her tight.
âOkay,â she whispered. âWeâll figure it out. Together.âÂ
â-
Anna slammed another book onto the table in Elsaâs study. They had been at it for hours, searching for any clues about the unknown frost. Anna nervously looked over at her sister, taking in the stressful look on her face. Elsa sat hunched over a thick tome, pages filled with ancient runes and scribbled notations. Her fingers were laced together, pressed against her lips, but her eyes⊠her eyes were distant, like she wasnât reading the words in front of her anymoreâlike she was somewhere else entirely.
âElsa?â Anna said softly.
No response.
Annaâs brows furrowed. She reached out and placed a hand on her sisterâs arm. âHey⊠talk to me. Youâre scaring me a little.â
Elsa blinked, snapping back to the present. âSorry,â she said, voice quiet. âI just⊠I donât understand it. This iceâit feels familiar. But itâs not mine. Itâs like something is calling out to me, but I donât know how to answer.â
Anna tilted her head. âCalling out how? Like a memory?â
âNo⊠not exactly. More likeâŠâ Elsa hesitated, searching for the right words. âLike a melody Iâve never heard before, but somehow already know. Itâs gentle⊠and powerful. And it makes me feelâŠâ She trailed off, eyes flicking toward the window, where the faint outline of frost still lingered along the glass.
âI mean,â Anna said, waving her hand at the stack of dusty old texts, âthese books are all about your powers. What if this isnât something Arendelleâs history ever recorded? What if we need to look⊠elsewhere?â
Elsa looked at Anna curiously, but her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. âElsa, Anna, you two in there?âÂ
Anna jumped out of her seat and ran to the door, opening it quickly. âKristoff!â
Kristoff walked into the study, taking in the mess in front of him. There were books all over the desk, papers thrown across the room, and Elsa obviously distressed in the middle of it all. Something was not right.
He scratched the back of his head, he was scared to question what was going on. âIs⊠everything okay in here? I havenât seen you both all day.â He asked.
Anna smiled wearily at him and looked at Elsa. She wasnât sure if she could tell Kristoff about what was happening. Perhaps he could help? She got her answer when Elsa met her gaze. Anna knew her sister well enough, she could recognize that stern look on her face, with a slight hint of fear. Donât tell Kristoff.
âWeâre⊠just doing some research for our upcoming trade agreement. Mhm!âÂ
Kristoff knew Anna was lying, and for once, he wasnât sure what to do. Apprehensively, he took a few steps over to Elsaâs desk and took a look at the books open in front of her. âIce? Come on, Anna, Iâm the best person you can ask about that.â He let out a chuckle, which came to a halt when he saw Elsaâs expression. âElsa⊠are you okay?â He looked back at Anna. âIâd really like to know whatâs going on here.âÂ
Anna groaned loudly. âElsa⊠can we please just tell him? Maybe he can help us!â
She thought for a second and stood up from her desk. âFine.â Elsa paused, âThereâs been ice⊠lingering around the castle. I saw it outside the conference room, on the windows, and on the gates. Somethingâs not right here. And before you ask, itâs not mine.â
âWait⊠how do you know itâs not yours? You sure itâs not leftover or something?â Kristoff questioned, holding back a small laugh.Â
Elsa frowned. âNo, Kristoff. I know what my powers look like, and thatâs not it. Itâs different⊠it somewhat feels more magical, and softer. I donât know whatâs going on, but Iâm going to get to the bottom of it. What if this poses as a threat to Arendelle?â
âWell, Iâm sure you can handle it.â He smiled, pushing one of the books toward him. âHave you ever thought that⊠there could be more like you out there?âÂ
Anna gasped and ran to the bookshelf, picking a book out from the far corner. She slammed it onto the corner and read, "Long before the snows were named, there walked unseen a spirit with laughter like sleigh bells and eyes like moonlight on ice. He painted frost on windowpanes with the flick of a wrist and stirred mischief into every gust of winter wind. The villagers of old Arendelle spoke of a figureâneither ghost nor godâwho danced through blizzards and carved silence into the woods. They called him only the Winter Trickster, for his true name was never known... but some say, if you listen closely when the snow swirls just right, you can still hear his laughter echoing on the wind."
âAnna. Didnât mother tell you? Thatâs just a traveller's tale. Itâs not real.â Elsa scoffed, crossing her arms.Â
Her sister shook her head. âBut Elsa, this is too much of a coincidence. âHe painted frost on windowpanes with the flick of a wristâ? Isnât that exactly what you saw in the Upper Hall?âÂ
Elsa fell silent. She wasnât even sure how Anna even remembered this story; their mother had told them about it years ago. She was pulled from her thoughts when Kristoff grabbed the book from the desk, examining it closely. âSo, what youâre saying is that there is someone out there like Elsa. Like⊠a spirit of the winter?â
Anna nodded, and Elsa shook her head. âNo. Because itâs not real, Kristoff, weâve already talked to Grand Pabbie about this. If there were another⊠being out there with ice powers, we wouldâve known by now.â She grabbed the book back from Kristoff and began clearing off her desk. âNow, if you two excuse me⊠I have to focus on our upcoming trade with Weselton. We can handle this later.âÂ
Kristoff and Anna took this as their cue to leave. Anna looked back at her sister, worriedly, before shutting the door behind her.
Letting out a sigh of relief, Elsa looked back at the book they had just been reading and pulled it back open, flopping to the next page. âHe left no tracks in the snow, yet his presence lingered like breath on cold glass. Where his wind passed, lakes stilled into mirrors and trees shimmered with silver lace. He was no ghost, but something olderâwilder. The children adored his tricks: sudden snow flurries on clear mornings, glistening ice patterns blooming across their windows. But the elders spoke his name only in hushed tones, wary of his mood. They said he looked like a boy carved from winter itself, with white hair and eyes like frozen starlight. When the wind howled just right through the pines, it wasnât hard to believe he was still out thereâlaughing, watching, waiting.â
It didnât make sense at all. She looked back up at the door, remembering the fact that she had shut Anna out again. Elsa picked up the book and brought it into her room. She hoped that she could find any clue that would help her understand what was going on.Â
After slipping into her nightgown, she settled onto the loveseat by her window, eyes scanning the darkness beyond, searching for answers. Time seemed to stretch as she sat thereâwatching, waiting.
Her thoughts were broken when she noticed the book in her hands beginning to frost over, a thin layer of ice creeping along its cover. This time, she knewâthis was because of her.
She looked up, breath catching in her throat. The glass of her bedroom window shimmered with spreading ice, the same pattern she had seen before.
How is this happening? Her mind reeled.
Thenâa soft knock.
A wooden staff tapped gently against the frozen pane. She squinted through the glass, heart pounding, barely able to make out the silhouette of a figure suspended in the night sky, holding the staff that had called to her.
Elsa gulped, her mind racing. Should she open the window? The figure beyond was barely visible, more shadow than shape. She took a breath and set the now-frozen book down on the seat beside her. When she looked back up, it was gone. Only the frost remained, slowly melting, tiny snowflakes drifting into the night air like silent whispers.
Now, she was really worried.Â

Dirty secret of Israelâs weapons exports: Theyâre tested on Palestinians
Weapons tested in each war Israel wages see a spike in global demand. The current Gaza war is the latest laboratory for its arms industry.
India â Israelâs largest military buyer, which operates more than 100 Israeli-made UAVs â purchased 34 Heron drones in this period, followed by France (24), Brazil (14) and Australia (10), according to a 2014 report by Drone Wars UK.
Colombia is one of an estimated 130 countries that have bought weapons, drones and cyberspying technology from Israel, the worldâs 10th-largest weapons exporter.
A report from Amnesty International in 2019 noted that the whole process by which Israel sells arms is shrouded in secrecy âwith no documentation of sales, one cannot know when [these arms] were sold, by which company, how many and so onâ.
Amnesty found that âIsraeli companies exported weapons which reached their destination after a series of transactions, thereby skirting international monitoringâ.
Israel has not ratified the Arms Trade Treaty, which prohibits the sale of weapons at risk of being used in genocide and crimes against humanity. As such, its weapons exports have influenced the course of history for several nations, many led by controversial regimes.

News of the Day 6/12/25: Too Damn Hot
Paywall free.
When we talk about climate change, I usually think about big storms, hurricanes especially. Maybe fires like out in LA or the tornadoes that battered the Midwest in February and March. The simple fact that it's getting hotter is less obvious, but it's still having huge impacts. What I think of as "Too Damn Hot" is about 20 degrees (F) cooler than what Phoenix's soldiering through right now. Spokane's in the low 100's, and they're really not equipped for this (X). And that's just the US. The Global South is hit hardest and least able to respond, obviously. A Swiss insurance company recently reported more people die from extreme heat than floods (X), for instance. And here in the US the roads are buckling. People can't work outside, which drives prices up. Any one of these would be a big deal.
Never fear; the government's on it (ha!).
Paywall free.
The good news is this is something you can get involved with and make a difference at a local level. Climate change advocacy is one thing and obviously crucial on its own, but I'm talking more about extreme weather resiliency. Most towns have what we call "heat hubs" around here, air-conditioned places where people without AC can shelter during extreme heat, even overnight.
I'd suggest starting with local homeless groups, public libraries, or your mayor's office. They may have ways for you to volunteer or even just donate. And of course talk to your Rep. or Senator especially about FEMA and NOAA cuts.

Hi! I love your mods, specifically your more complex recipes mod, but since it is incompatible with cinderellimouseâs cooking and ingredients overhaul mod, I have been playing without that mod, is there any way to make them compatible?
Hi, and thank you! To see what differences there are between mods that modify the same XML or ITUN resource, I like to export those resources, open them both in Notepad++, and use its Plugins \ Compare \ Compare feature.
In the image below, I've extracted the RecipeMasterList XML from both mods, renamed them "[SD]" and "[CM]" to tell them apart more easily, and from that point it's just a matter of seeing what differences there are between the two documents, and changing what you want â of course, bearing in mind what other modifications CM introduces, like new ingredients (I've never used that mod). Additions are listed in green, changes are listed in yellow.
Of course, it is preferable to apply any modifications to CM's mod and discard mine, since I assume you want the additional stuff that comes with CM's mod.
After you're done, save the .xml and import it over the one in CM's mod (where you previously extracted it from). Make sure to right-click the XML (instance 0xC804E72F531C6AAD) and use the Replace function, since S3PE won't import it otherwise because of the name change.

For whatever odd reason, the little gray cells keep returning to Vincenzo. In the middle of an otherwise humdrum task, a post season 1 episode will be conjured up and I have no idea why... but the series was so good that the brain seems to believe that there really is a Geumga Plaza Cassano family out there living their lives.
The latest?
After learning through the Geumga Plaza grapevine of the Scoville challenge between Vincenzo and the late Jang Han-seok/Jang Jun-woo, Park Seok-do (CEO of ByeBye Balloon) has decided to create a subsidiary company: The Pepper Company.
His intent is to reinvigorate South Korea's place with respect to chili pepper exports and provide a stable income stream not quite so dependent upon wind energy (although he still embraces environmentally friendly practices). Hong Cha-young has agreed to wrangle the legal work but, of course, the devil is in the details as Park Seok-do still needs some funds to get his new company off the ground, so to speak. Cha-young has the perfect person in mind for an angel investor and ignoring Seo Mi-ri's offer to take care of securing encryption and e-signing of documentation; one flight and a boat ride to Malta and Pagliuzza respectively and Cha-young is explaining everything in Korean with a smattering of broken Italian before a bemused Vincenzo who is annoyingly muttering, un angioletto tutto pepe, but he knows he will sign anything Cha-young places before him. How can he not?
A year later and despite a few *marketing mishaps by Park Seok-do's assistant, Jeon Soo-nam, the company is a success and along the way, they've uncovered and ended the leaders of a human trafficking ring as Vincenzo continues to pursue his hobby of cleaning up garbage.
*Jeon Soo-nam has fully recovered from his injuries, but did learn the reason why one should always wash one hands thoroughly after handling peppers and Never. Touch. Eyes. until having done so. Also, dropping chili powder samples from a hot air balloon earns a punch from your boss.

âIf in doubt, dress up. Donât ever dress down â youâll be so disappointed.â Died one year ago today: fashion visionary, doyenne of punk, iconoclast and provocateur, environmental activist, true eccentric British original and Tintwistle, Cheshireâs finest export, Dame Vivienne Westwood (8 April 1941 â 29 December 2022). Who else would rock up to Buckingham Palace in an exquisitely tailored suit to collect her OBE medal (like she did in 1992) â and then afterward twirl for photographers to reveal she was wearing no panties beneath? (There are great photos online documenting that moment, but if I post one here, Iâll wind up in Facebook jail). What other designer would urge the public to buy LESS clothes? As a punk fanatic steeped in the lore of the Sex Pistols, making a pilgrimage to the hallowed ground of Westwoodâs Worldâs End boutique on Kingâs Road (with the sloping, creaking floor) when I first moved to London in 1992 was de rigueur. I bought a shirt that cost ÂŁ75, which seemed astronomical at the time. Of course, I still wear it on special occasions to this day (even on job interviews). And of course, I hung onto the bag with the orb logo for ages! I was always envious of friends and colleagues whoâd casually remark they used to regularly spot Westwood cycling around South London with her vivid dyed-orange hair flying. I only fleetingly encountered her once: at a Christeene gig downstairs at the Soho Theatre a few years ago. Excitement rippled through the crowd when Westwood and her entourage arrived. Everyone knew they were in the presence of greatness.
