🐬 Daily Cetacean Fact: 🐬

Right-Whale Dolphin: These cetaceans are predominantly black, white beneath, and some of the few without a dorsal fin or ridge. They are smaller members of the oceanic dolphins, and very slender. Despite scientists being long acquainted with the species little is known about them in terms of life history and behaviour. No global population estimates exist. There are an estimated 14,000 individuals close to the North American shoreline.

Here's a painting of a finless porpoise. They kinda trended on Twitter for a bit, which reminded me that I wanted to make this for a long time. I know people think they look weird, but to me, they look normal, hehe. Maybe I'm just used to coastal cetaceans with flexible bodies, but they just look like the average coastal Atlantic bottlenose dolphin without the beak and a dorsal ridge instead of a fin. I still need to practice illustrating porpoises since I find their faces to be a little tricky compared to dolphins. It's why I haven't drawn any others. I do have another finless porpoise illustration that I haven't posted yet, but that's it in terms of Phocoenidae drawings from me.

** Porpoises are generally smaller than dolphins. With the exception of the finless porpoise, they have a triangular dorsal fin (whereas most dolphins have a sickle-shaped fin).

Mew Lettuce Mermaid

Cause it's hard to save the world, When you're falling in love... I know 4kids dub opening (which a lot were bops accept it) and was more to Ichigo buuuut its stuck in my brain.

And behold for mermay, a art of Mew Lettuce who had a scene where she looked like a mermaid and her animal is a finless porpoise so even if there wasn't that scene I feel like that is an okay to draw her mermaid like. It's a fun time drawing her...though will admit struggled with the hair, would think it was easy, but nope due to head position and such. -claps- anyway lets look at this as I try and admire the art

🐬Daily Cetacean Fact:🐬

Indo-Pacific Finless Porpoise: This species lives in the coastal waters of Asia, especially around, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, and Bangladesh. At the western end, their range includes the length of the western coast of India and continues up into the Persian Gulf. Although most are rather smaller. The flippers are moderately large, reaching up to 20% of the total body length.
